    This is an awesome review/comparison! I've been debating wether to get the Sony or Sigma for a while now and the only thing tipping me over to the Sony was the OSS but now that I got a Gimbal I'm gonna go with the Sigma. It definitely yields a better picture in my opinion!

      Thank you very much! Yeah, with a gimbal the Sigma 30mm is a no brainer! Congrats on your purchase! Keep shooting!

      Hey. just want to say that I was in the same thoughts as you and I went for sigma.
      I also use the gimbal and sigma lens is one of them sharpest lenses I have.

  • @Featinwe
    @Featinwe 7 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    There is one more thing for Sony lens - it's smaller. I went to E-mount for size and weight so it's quite important for me. If someone doesn't care about size Sigma is a clear choice. You didn't mention about CA - Sony can produce quite massive CA is contrast situation (purple fringing) while Sigma does a much better job.

      Extra weightis also helpful for steady shots while using it on rig or gimbal, so sigma helps that way too

      @@rohanrawal3949 Im torn between what to choose in my glide shots the only thing lacks the sigma is the OSS, does the weight of sigma help to get more stabilize shots in my gimbal ? or it doesnt matter , I think the oss is a big help but sigma is much more cheap arrrggh i cant chooose :(

  • @collinausbury
    @collinausbury 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    It's always difficult. I love the slightly warmer and "better" imagine from the sigma, but the Sony glass just works better with the Sony body. The autofocus with the Sony doesn't hunt as much as it does with the sigma, and the extra OSS pulls through as a security against jitters. Thank you so much for the review.

    I'm getting into vlogging with short cinematic clips here and there with the A6300. I was looking for a run and gun lens that can help be with both scenarios. Do you think a 30mm/35mm will give me a wide enough angle for vlogging? It'll definitely help me in video quality and cinematic sequences but I'm just not sure if it'll work out for vlogging.

    • @SidneyDiongzon

      It can, but you'll need to have a tripod like the Joby GorillaPod to extend the reach of the camera further than your arm....unless you have really long arms, lol. I'ma actually going to do a review on a new tripod I love for vlogging, so check out for that soon!

    Which would you recommend for my a6300 shooting almost exclusively photos. I've mostly done street photography but have been exploring and trying new things. Going to the mountains, car shows, boudoir, night shots and everything in-between. But all I have is the kit lens and an old 50mm 1.7 I adapted from a Minolta film camera. I have both with my sony a6300 (which doesn't have any IBIS). I originally bought the sigma because of the better image, but its close to useable due to it turning everything to jittering jelly (and thats with a Zhiyun Crane!). +Bryce Vaughn Good question! That's really preference. If you like tighter shots, go with the 50mm. If you want a little room to play with, then go with the 35mm. I do find that the 35mm is slightly better in image quality.

  • @zachsperrazzo
    @zachsperrazzo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Quick question. I have the sigma 18-35mm and I just got the sony a6500. I want good autofocus so I can't decide if I should save the money and just get the mc11, or if I should get some sony glass. Since you have both, what would you recommend? does the mc11 work pretty good, or is it finicky and I should go with sony glass?

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Sigma 18-35mm and MC-11 adapter will definitely give you GOOD autofocus, but not GREAT autofocus. Sony glass is by far faster! The Sigma 18-35 is a beautiful lens and will give you beautiful results, so if image quality is your goal, then get the MC-11 adapter. If autofocus performance is your goal, then go with a Sony glass. In my next video, I'll be featuring the MC-11 adapter with the Sigma 35mm Art, so look out for that! Hope this helps!

    • @zachsperrazzo
      @zachsperrazzo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sidney Diongzon ok awesome thanks! I I'll go with the mc11 and also the Sony 10-18mm cuz I love that wide angle and also it's Sony to it will be great autofocus. I'll go with that setup instead of something like the zeiss 16-70... Cuz lowlight of sigma is also a huge factor. Thanks for the input!

  • @godofhope

    I bought first the 35mm f1.8. Then I heard of the Sigmas. I bought the 16mm. It delivered 1/5 of the images completely missfocussed images. Until f4 the lens is soft at the sides. So probably I’m not going to try another lens of this series. I have the Sigma 150-600mm and there it seems I was lucky to get a properly sharp copy.

    Hey guys I am in desperate need of some help here, we have the Sony a6500 and just purchased the 35mm 2.8 zeiss lens which we took out test shooting last night and was GREAT for photos but the video is terrible!! So shakey and unusable. Even though the a6500 has 5 axis stabilisation and all our settings seem to be right for video set up. Would we be any better off with the sonnar 1.8 that has OSS?

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The IBIS is great, but not perfect. At 35mm, your focal length equivalent is actually 52mm, so seeing some shake is expected. There are some techniques you can apply to reduce shake (I even made a video on how to do that! "3 Handheld Moves to Cinematic Shots"), but yes having a lens with OSS will definitely help. I haven't tried the Sonnar 1.8 yet, but the Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS works really well! Hope this helps!

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In video/movie mode, no autofocusing issues at all. It's like 1/4 second slower than the Sony. In photography mode, however, the Sigma does hunt a little bit especially in low light. Both lenses have their pros and cons, but I still find the Sigma 30mm to give the better results. Hope this helps!

  • @mpikas
    @mpikas 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It seems like if you're just shooting pics or mostly pics, get the Sigma, otherwise, it's not that easy. Since I shoot pics and video, reviews like yours are more and more pushing me towards the Sony. What I found interesting is that when everything is perfect then the sigma gets better pics/video, but if you get a little off and the Sony looks better. Since most of us don't have IBS and/or gimbals, I'm surprised the Sigmas are as popular as they are. Again, I get it for photography, but not so much for video, and I get it for the 16mm (the shorter the lens gets the less it matters), but again, for the 30mm I'm not so sure.
    If money was no object I'd probably get both and then see if I mostly carry one or if I can't do without one. I suspect that without constant side by side comparison I'd end up keeping the sony.
