      I loved 30mm until 16mm came out. Own both and as you stated, both have their places in videography. I find 16mm more convenient most of the time for it being a wide angle lens.
      Big thumps up to you for the apt videos you have been creating. There are times I think how about Sidney creates a video about this and there you create a video about it.
      Thank you.

      After doing a lot of research, I chose the 30mm, but after being so used to the 16-50 kit lens on the a6300, I think I may dip back into my wallet and pick up the 16mm. I'm just so used to that wide shot! I think the 30mm will be nice for shooting interviews and things like that. Unfortunately with photography equipment, there's so much trial and error to finding what you like, and every trial costs $$$! Thanks for this video, great work here!

    I can afford only one lens and the 30mm sits just at the right spot between wide and tight shots. It's not 35mm or 40mm, it's neither a 24mm of 16mm right at the center with the ability to do everything to capture shots that are closer to the way the human eye sees life! 👍

    I am ready to purchase the 6500 but struggling with lens choices. I am not a pro and like to take family, holiday, travel photos. Looking at the kit lens for size and convenience, the Sigma 30mm for portraits and street photography. Trying to decide between the Sigma 19mm or the Sony 18-105. Longer lens would be nice, but is pricey and looks heavy. I l also like the Sigma 16mm but budget is tightening up. I am photo oriented, very little video. Thoughts about a starter lens set for travel and general family photos?

      Hi Don ... Just a little quick personal recommendation... Try finding a used 19 mm 2.8 sigma on eBay or something like that...it's not uncommon to find one coming in at $100 or even a little bit less... I got one in mint condition off of eBay for $101 shipped but I just seen locally on classified ads that there's one in this area for like $80. Money very well spent... good luck and enjoy that 6500 if you get it

    Thanks for this! I am dead set on the 30mm now. I'll keep my kit lens for when I need a wider FOV but I much prefer the "normal" equivalence of about 45mm. Bee using a 50mm Canon FD and while I love it, it's too narrow on an APS-C and I sometimes miss AF.

    What is your thoughts on sharpness. I bought both and have been disgusted with the sharpness of the 16mm taking photos and really of both. Hey Sidney, figured I'd ask since you reply to pretty much every comment. I've got the sony 18-105 (loving it), and the sigma 30mm. I mainly do video. sony 18mm is lacking in terms of how wide it can go as well as the sharpness. Would you recommend getting the sigma 16mm or saving up for the sony 10-18? Not exactly sure if it is worth it for the premium of the 10-18 given that i'm paying for an extra 8mm compared to the 18-105.

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends how wide you want to go versus the cinematic qualities you want in a lens. The 10-18mm will definitely give you that “bigger than life” look since it’s so wide. The Sigma 16mm isn’t too wide but wide enough for a lot of scenarios (i.e. vlogs). The low light on that lens is amazing! Before I broke my camera, my perfect setup was the 18-105, 10-18, and the Sigma 30mm. LOVED that combo!

    I cannot really decide at the moment. I'm gonna buy an A6500 body soon and the Sigma 16mm is definitely the first lens I'm gonna get for it. But I also wanna get a second lens. I like street photography, landscape/architecture, as well as portraits. What I really like about the Sigmas is the aperture and the sharpness. The Sigma 16mm doesn't jump as much as the 30mm. It's not as smooth as an actual cinema lens, but it's one of the better APS-C e-mount lens that can achieve smooth rack focusing. In all, it's not perfect, but certainly better than the 30mm. Hope this helps!

    Thanks Sid. I bought the a6500 with the 16mm and will buy the zhiyune crane for the light set up. However, I'm also going to buy the 18-35 because I love the image quality of the art series lenses (I own a 50mm 1.4 sigma art). Maybe in the future you can do a video image comparison between the a6500 vs a7riii. I know picture wise the a7riii blows it out of the water. Thanks again!!!

    Hi Sidney, great video, I subbed and need your help.
    Question 1. I'm still torned between buying the Sigma 16mm f1.4 (24 equivalent) or the Sigma 30mm f1.4 (45 equivalent) e mounts for a wedding steady tracking close up shot, because of the 1.5x crop factor on my A6300. Which is better?
    Question 2. Should I buy a Sigma 16mm f1.4 canon mount and just put a viltrox ef-e speedbooster so it will be still be a 16mm look on the aps-c? What would you prefer to me? Big help thanks.

      Thanks! Here are my answers:
      #1. The Sigma 16mm will have a slight distortion if you're up close to the bride, so I wouldn't recommend it for portrait-like shots. For wide shots, then yes, this lens is amazing! They're both good lenses, so it depends if you do more closer shots or wider shots.
      #2. There is no Sigma 16mm 1.4 Canon mount. This lens is specifically for Sony APS-C cameras.
      Hope this helps!

    How do you feel about the size and weight of the 16mm? Does it feel like a beast to carry around? Seems much larger than the Sony 35mm f1.8 I’m currently using.

    Good test! Liked seeing the different capabilities. I have a Sony 10-18mm F4 which is SUCH a cool lens in good lighting but I've been getting a lot of noise using it inside. Think I could afford both these if I sold the Sony. Hmmmm...

    I’ve chosen the 30mm over the 16mm because I have the 10-18mm for vlogging. Its easier for me to vlog with a wider lens since I don’t have an external screen for my a6500 😅

    Can you please help me in my decision with your experience? I’m stuck between the 16mm 1.4 or the 30mm 1.4. I do want to do some street/urban photography but with a subject in my picture for portrait. I was considering the 30mm because you don’t get that “fish eye” effect if you get to close, but yet I don’t know how bad it is on the 16mm and I want enough background so I wouldn’t get so close either way. But then you have the 35mm which I don’t know how much background is cut off due to the focal length. Which I don’t know if that would effect my street photography. Sorry newby here lol just want to make the right choice. Please let me know!!! This is my first upgrade to a prime lens from the kit lens on the a6000 btw

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like the Sigma 30mm is the lens for you primarily because you want to have a subject in your photography. The 16mm is too wide for portraits in my opinion...unless you like doing wide portraits. Hope this helps!

    I bought the Sigma 30 based on your recommendation and absolutely love it and use it for all my photos and videos that I take of my young boys. What is your thought on the Sigma 16 for family photos/videos? Do you find yourself using one of them more when shooting video of your kids? I can see the benefit of both but was wondering if you found yourself leaning toward one lens in those situations.

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's so cool! Yeah, the 16mm is great because you're able to capture more of the scene since it's wider. Definitely great to capture family! If you check out my video "THIS IS US" I shot most of that video with the Sigma 16mm.

    Great vid. I’ve been using a Rokinon 12m f2.0. Was thinking about the sigma 30mm as a good next lens. Do you still think the sigma 16m would be better? I take all street, landscape and Astro.

    I would like to ask you(even if i've already saw the the many aswers you gave on the other video)
    Sony 35mm 1.8 or sigma 30mm 1.4 on a6000? Im really stuck on deciding between this 2 lenses.
    Sigma offers a supercool image quality...but siny has OSS...
    I already own the 18-105...
    Can you plz give some advice? 😍

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends if you do more film or more photography. If you do more film, then the Sony 35mm (mainly because of the OSS on the lens). If it's more photography, then the Sigma 30mm because of it's sharpness. Hope this helps!

    which kit do you think is best for a sony a6300:
    1. Sigma 16 f1.4 - Sony 50 F1.8 - Sony 18-105 f4
    2. Sigma 16 f1.4 - Sigma 30 F1.4 - Sony 85 f1.8
    3. 2. Sigma 16 f1.4 - Sigma 30 F1.4 - Sony 18-105 f4
    I make travel films, events and product film.

    Hi, I own the two kit lenses 16 and 55 mm... and I want to purchase one of the sigma options, mostly because of the aperture. Between the 16mm and the 30 mm wich one do you recommend... I shoot portraits and some landspaces, but mostly portraits. And I film piano concerts and music videos in small rooms.

    Love my A7ii and 28mm but video aspect isn’t strong. Dream kit would prob be a6500: 16mm 1.4 (though 24mm ff equivalent is still a bit tight for vlogs) the new 18-105 for family/travel, and the the 55 1.8. Idk aps c seems more optimal for my needs :/
