    Hi,
    Few times in your video, you always pick Sony 35mm F1.8 vs Sigma 30mm F1.4.
    I am curious whether your opinion still remains the same?
    Or you have changed your mind.
    Thanks and I look forward to hearing your thought.

    Loved the video. Thanks for including us in some of your family time.
    You forget that there is very apparent distortion between the lenses which is even more important than addressing the bokeh. The 16mm is not flattering at all for portraits because of the distortion. The question should be what types of pictures do you want to take? 16mm great for landscape and group shots. 30mm is a great all around lens. 56mm is best for portraits because the face looks more natural as it would to the naked eye. There is a crop factor involved but that only affects the crop and not the distortion.
    Big fan. I've learned a lot from your channel.
    Started w a 6000 then recently purchased a 6500. I own the 56 and the 30 plus the 19mm and 60mm sigmas.
    Please post the 56mm vs the 85mm FE. Thanks again.

    I have and idea or something like that for a video, why not a comparison between all the sigma lens? All the APS-C, 16mm, 19mm, 30mm (1.4/2.8), 56mm and 60mm to see it performance in low light and the main point I'm interested, taking the same picture on a tripot just switching lens to have an idea in the difference of mm and it real point of view. You are the greatest A6000 owners Channel, I thing it would be a great video comparing all sigma lenses. I am wondering on getting the 16mm 1.4 and then getting the old sigma lenses in EBAY for 100 box or something like that to have a little kit for traveling. At the moment I'm owning my A6000 with the 16-50mm kit lens and a Neewer 35mm 1.7 that I pick up for 40 box on Amazon.

    I know I have a crazy amount to learn and just wondered if anyone can help me with sharpness? I've taken a few photos and feel the sharpness is nothing like what Arthur has been able to get. Ive been shooting in the Auto plus mode as I'm still learning about all the settings. Can anyone help?

  • @Rainbluex1
    @Rainbluex1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hi Arthur! For photography, would you say there’s a HUGE difference between the images of a A6000 and a A6400? I know the A6400 is a lot more $$ than the A6000 so I’m having trouble picking one. Is the extra $$ in the A6400 worth it for still photography? Or do they produce the same quality photos? Thanks!

  • @santosovideo

    "The only real difference..." Man, there's a huge difference between the 16mm and 30mm when it comes to distortion, I mean, look at your wife's nose! People may not notice that though, since we're all used to smartphone pictures now... Good job as always though!

    I was totally going to sell my Rokinon and Pick up this lens (as I love my Sigma 30mm 1.4). I hate collecting lenses and like having a max of 3 lenses at any one time. However Sigma recently released their 18-50mm F2.8 compact zoom which has great quality (maybe 80% of the primes). This makes my choice much easier, keep the 30mm F1.4 since I find it the best versatile walk around/indoor lens, the Rokinon 12mm (maybe swap for Autofocus) for Stars, Landscapes, creatives, and the Sigma for the walk around. Cannot justify the 16mm F 1.4 when I now can have an 18mm F 2.8. If you use your camera for video at night then I can see the advantage of 16mm F1.4 but I am strictly a photographer. Plus if I needed video I'm fine with graining at higher ISO. Thoughts? I'm about to have a baby and am wondering if a fast tele (or even 56mm F1.4) is usefull. I used to use the Sony 18-135mm zoom for travel but never really liked the photos in many of the shots and was forced to really push in lightroom. Sigma always looked good. Any suggestions?

  • @GallaghersGrub
    @GallaghersGrub 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great vid!
    For travel, I like my Sony 18-135. I hate changing lenses when taking in the sights
    I use the Sigma 16 on a tripod for videos when talking to camera on my channel. Very sharp. Nice colors. Perfect for that. Yes, external audio required if using autofocus
    I really like the Sony 35mm and 50mm for pics of friends and family at parties, holidays, etc. Food pics. I don’t see the need to “upgrade” to lenses without OSS. Of course, if I had the a6500...

  • @boeing900
    @boeing900 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I owe you a big thank you. I recently purchased a Sony a6400 and based on your recommendation and review of the Sigma 16mm that’s the lens I got with it. All I can say is, amazing. I wish I could post pictures with this to show people the amazing shots I got with it on a moonless night in my backyard taking pictures of reflections off my pool with just what Ambient light there was reflecting off a thin cloud layer and the light coming through the windows of my house. At f /2.2 and iso 2500 and 4 sec.shutter if it wasn’t for the overly bright windows you would swear that picture was taken at high noon on a clear summer day. The pool has a fairly dark blue Pebble Tech bottom as opposed to a white plaster. Despite this you can easily make out the individual leaves of the trees around the pool in their reflections. In fact they are even green. Not only that but there is a very prominent shadow of the house in the reflection that you can’t tell is there with the naked eye. But even in this shadow the texture of the Pebble Tech is plainly visible. Of course I used a tripod but not the shutter delay, yet everything is very sharp and clear. My wife was not nearly as impressed as I was when I woke her up at 1:30 in the morning to show her this amazing photograph. I don’t know why..lol. I’m an Airline Pilot and I can’t wait for my next trip to Amsterdam and go roaming around. Thank you again for your excellent reviews q

    This Sigma trio is spot on from Sigma in terms of great, great value. I see another vacuum or opportunity for Sigma which is the 70-200 F4. Come out with similar quality and much cheaper like the trio which are well known for quality vs price, Sigma would have the Sony's APS-C market cornered towards them.

Что взять к вышеописанному комплекту для большей универсальности sigma 30 или sigma 18-35? И что на ваш взгляд удобнее и набирает больше суммарных балов трио сигмы или sigma 18-35 + sigma 56?

    First of all, what sadsacks click on dislike ???? So believe it or not, i just sold my A7RII and went back to a new A6000. Always love the A6000s since i bought my first one some years ago. I had both the A7RII and A6000 on a recent trip to New Zealand and captured some amazing images using only the A6000. 82 meg raw files drove me crazy on the A7RII. As I only post to social media and sometimes print to canvas, APSC photos works fine. Have 3x 1000mm x750mm canvases on my wall and they were all taken with the APSC system. First lens after buying the A6000 again was the Sigma 16mm. Had one before and they are amazing. So once again, your my go to guy for APSC

    Hello...
    Is there a comparison video for the following lens, Sony 35F1.8 and Sony kit lens? I'm trying to determine if I should purchase the 35mm or buy a flash for my 6K. I'll primarily be using it for indoor/night/in house shots.
    Thanks

    I have a Sony a 6300 and watch all your videos. But I cannot comprehend why you use the a6000, when you have an a6500, with non stabilized lenses. I would get some of these Sigma lenses, except for the fact that I completely lose stabilization. Now I don't ever use a tripod, but I don't want to use a tripod. So it seems to me that using the a6000 when you have the a6500 is just making it more difficult for you to use your camera in most situations. ???

    • @TreyyDaMenaceFan
      @TreyyDaMenaceFan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He once said he likes to take the a6000 because its smaller and lighter + you don't need to worry so much about it as it is cheaper. If he's doing video work stab is non-issue with gimbal.

    • @ArthurR
      @ArthurR  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly. Smaller, lighter, but the biggest reason is that for images the A6000 is just as good in my opinion as the A6500. If I drop the A6000 or it gets stolen, I can replace it for significantly less than a new A6500 :)

    • @henryD9363
      @henryD9363 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArthurR Thanks. I use my a6300 for images only. Over 10,000 pics along the hiking trails of N California where I never bring a tripod. So the image stabilization of Sony lenses works well for me and is very important. Never gave much thought to video shooting issues.
      But I still wonder if a combination of a6500 body stabilization with Sony lens stabilization would be better. I've never seen any TH-cam videos or websites that ever even discussed this topic. IOW I'm not sure if getting a a6500 would be worth it.

    So the 16mm i would not use for portraits. People always looking like they have a big nose even if they don't have. It's ok for getting snapshots inside with limited space but also there you can learn to deal with the 30mm. The 16 is a typical landscape wide angle lens for me, if i want to capture people, i beginn with 30mm around.

    I have Sigma 56mm, it is sharp, but autofocus is noticeably slower than on Panasonic Lumix lenses. I would say, this lens is great for photos, but not as great for videos. Unfortunately this is about the only lens available in M4/3 if you want such focal distance, aperture and autofocus.

    if you are about to buy one of those and you are not sure, which one to pick:
    16mm great for landscape, night sky, architecture, street photography.
    30mm great "allrounder". A classic nifty-fifty on APS-C.
    56mm fantastic for any kind of portrait! Can be used for street, architecture equally good.
    If I would have to pick one, I'd go for the 56mm, because I mainly take pictures of people, family, friends.

  • @chileheadcraig
    @chileheadcraig 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    9:56 the distortion when shooting that close with a 16mm creates a fun house mirror effect, as your comparison shows (exaggerated nose). Any wide angle lens would. I would only do portraits with the 30mm or longer.

    Hi, thank you very much for this content, great pictures! Here are my two cents:
    1. question: I dont understand why you bought the 6500 but instead always carry the 6000 around with you when travelling. Because it is lighter??
    2. you depressed my mind with the A7iii vs a6500 Video. I was so impressed and besides unhappy with the sharpness of the A7iii. If you still have the A7iii, I suggest now is the time for a second comparison: the A7iii Kit vs a6500 Sigma 56mm. Wouldn‘t that be interesting?
    Thanks again and all the best for you and your loved ones in 2019!

    • @SONYAdicto
      @SONYAdicto 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      JoEpunkt I think he mentioned that he borrowed the A7 III from a friend.
      The full frame kit lens is not as sharp as these sigma lenses, that’s for sure. I have the A7 III and the image quality can get super impressive, but so the (price of) lenses. Also, full frame lenses are usually bigger and heavier, with very few exceptions.
      There are also full frame Sigma lenses (the Art line) and they are unbelievably sharp. Sigma is the best in the market for sharpness (though some say sharpness isn’t everything, as in you have to consider color rendition, micro contrast, bokeh quality, ergonomics, AF speed and precision, vignette, distortion... etc).

    • @JoEpunkt
      @JoEpunkt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      SONY Adicto thank you!
      Maybe, if he is a good friend he would lend the camera again?
      I recently watched a video from Brandon Cole who compared the Sigma 56 to the Sony 85 on a 7iii.
      This was some very interesting content, but (sorry to say) I trust the Tests from the (Tech Mafia) Don more.

      Foto4Max thanks. Yep, I have the A6300. I have the 30mm Sigma 1.4 and love it. Just not sure of the reach of the 56mm compared to the 84mm. Pondering.

    • @SONYAdicto
      @SONYAdicto 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ReflectingMe 85mm on APS-C is WAY too zoomed in, and only useful for head portraits and maybe some full body portraits (although you have to be far away from the subject, and sometimes that’s reflected on the model’s expression).
      56mm for APS-C (equivalent to 84mm for Full Frame) is way more convenient and useful for many types of portraits and other photos. Of course if you have a use for a longer focal length, the 85mm is awesome, but keep in mind that you are paying for a Full Frame lens and you will not be using more than half of its image (by putting it on an APS-C camera). UNLESS you plan to upgrade to Full Frame in the future 😆.

    We are having issues focusing with the 16mm on the Sony a6600. Some example. We're both on camera for a vlog, and sometimes it loses focus on one of us. Or we're in a restaurant getting video (or photos) of food, and it focused on literally one item on the plate and blurs out everything else. How can we get around this?

      generally you get higher quality footage with prime lenses, good prime lens choices for Sony's aps-c cameras are Sigma16mm & 30mm f1.4, I also like the Sony's 20mm f2.8 pancake aps-c lens since it's super compact for occasional travel vlog

    Does 56mm, Crop into 1.6 Sensor? in Sony a6000?
    Please reply, I am confused what to buy 30mm or 56mm. I want in the range of 40-55mm.

    • @1337ghomri
      @1337ghomri 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it crops. But on sony it's 1.5, and 1.6 on Canon and Nikon. So would recommend 30mm. I have a 50mm on Nikon D5200 with crop sensor, and you have to get really far away from subjects. I wish i had gone with a 30mm instead.

    • @jochenkraus7016
      @jochenkraus7016 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There might be an additional crop in video.
      If 40-55 is the full frame equivalent you'd like to have I'd go for the 30mm or - if you think about getting an A7 - the Sony FE 28mm/2.0.
      56mm is more a counterpart to an 85mm on full frame.

    12:31 makes it perfect for recording cats. They purr when they are happy (for example) and the lens does the same. Nobody will notice it when recording cats on video. As you can now see the logic here you know that your lens is happy :) now that you know it you gotta go pet it and give it a treat :)

    Good video and very relevant for many a6x00 users. As a enthusiast photo dad i have been shooting with the a7rii with GM lenses the last years but since i added the a6500 with the sigma trio i shoot almost all my photos with the new setup. The new 56mm is just what was missing for the aps-c line. Image quality is great and you cant beat the compactness of this system. Give us a 16-55/70 2.8zoom now dear sony :)
