    Homelander is way better than Omni Man in terms of design and characterization. He's so complex and Anthony just elevates the character.

      I agree Antony is phenomenal although I’m probably a little biased towards Omni Man as I’ve read the comic about 5 times now haha but they are completely different characters and I wouldn’t even call Omni Man a villain.

      @@burdenofbestSure he’s a villain at the beginning of the series but after his fight with Mark, he’s a better person and is a good guy onward. So yeah kinda hard to consider Nolan a villain when he’s a hero for majority of the series.

    I think Homelander's lowest and most pathetic moments are what truly sells the character for me. Not only it shows how great Anthony Starr acting is, since he can go from megalomaniacal killer to socially inept weirdo in the drop of a hat, these moments truly show how much of broken fucked-up excuse for a human Homie is.

    • @burdenofbest

      Completely agree oftentimes these moments of seeing Homelander being pathetic are the best moments too.

    I personally think Michael Myers from the original Halloween is just as good a villain as Homelander in a different manner.
    The lack of complexities, the lack of reasoning or motive, the lack of understanding, the seriousness of the threat brought out by Donald Pleasance gassing up Myers. It not only gives a mystique; but makes the character far more intimidating and in turn interesting.
    Homelander is the opposite in a good way, we see his motives; we delve into his mind and overall psychosis. We see his unpredictability unfold in his mind then have the tension of whether or not he’ll commit to it; it’s fantastic suspense!
    I think they’re both the best villains of both the big screen and the smaller screen.

    The thing about Homelander is that he is one of the most original characters in fiction. Thanks to the fact that 'The Boys' is a series, so it has ample time to showcase the characteristics of the characters.
    Just take the other characters
    Butcher, Hughie, Soldier Boy, Starlight, etc. They are all non-plagiarised characters(even if you take the comics, they are very different), but still they are not that original. Because come on, it is very difficult to construct a character like Homelander. It happened only because the story makers explored every possible dimensions of a human being. And then mix it with Anthony Starr's phenomenal acting and the score. No wonder the character is so fresh and addictive.

    • @aroundnabout4290
      @aroundnabout4290 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Don't know about that. He's not that original. He's just more scary than other villain cause he doesn't care at all about anyone and has zero limitations. His super powers aren't original, his back story of abuse isn't original, but he is fucking scary

I don't know about vader though to me he seems over rated, I mean he is good but not that good and thanos is no where near as good as all four of these.
      I think if people just leave the biases and see things for what they actually are it would be pretty clear that homelander is a more complex and better written character than the competition, and I don't mean the comic homelander, what makes homelander great is tony, without him the character is nothing.

    Homelander is not a nuanced at all. Powerful character with a tragic backstory. Homelander is not complex, we know exactly why hes the way he is. He's not complex, he kills people with no remorse. That has been so many times. Madara , obito, broly ,thanos. Lets get real now. People like this show because they think it's edgy and violent. That makes people feel mature. Starrs performance is severly overrated. The facial expressions he makes are so forced and down right stupid. He looks like me in the fourth grade when i huffed and puffed to try scaring my bullies. Why do the boys escape from supes , especially homelander every time yet they have no powers? Why would they let firecracker escape? None of these characters are actual characters. Theyre tropes. Theres no characterization moments. We don't even know what they want anymore. In s1 they were trying to get revenge for robin. Idk anymore. Its no better than CW flash

    • @Inevitablyinconsidered
      @Inevitablyinconsidered 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just because we know his motivations doesn't make him any less nuanced in his character, there's a lot going on with homelander that relates to the way the world is now he is a product of a world obsessed with image and public perception thrown into the limelight and told he was special and above all others we see it all the time with celebrity and political figures how their own characters are far disassociated from there public persona, he's also a great little case study on the nature v nurture debate something that I've known quite a lot about because of people in my own life. The boys came at a time where many of the things homelander is, are rife in our own lives and as for stars performance you equate him to a child? Is that not one of his main character traits and another of the reasons that make him so intriguing he has the power of a God yet the mindset of an immature spoilt little child I'd say starr gets that aspect down to a T
