I really like OGD 114 a lot. Most people do not know that the actual "old granddad" is Basil Hayden Sr. OGD is what the grand kids called him and when the grandson took over the company, he wanted a brand to honor his grandfather.
I found a Sam's Club store pick of Knob Creek 120 proof that's just shy of 10 years today in Grand Junction Colorado.... Only $44....Best deal I've ever seen at Sam's Club.... And it's delicious.... Just now cracked it.... Cheers ❤️🙏
I saw an OGD 114 for $25 yesterday in Superior, WI! I passed on it, but your video caused me to dip into my bottle tonight, so I may need to grab one next time I head over there! Great video compare! Coincidently, I found 1 Larceny BP B523 for $67 in Duluth, MN, of the 5 stores I went to. Last and only bottle put a smile on my face!
Newer viewer here, I stubbled upon yor channel through other channels that I watch. I noticed that you guys are from Colorado, not to far from me. I live in Utah the home of High West as you know. I lov whiskey and have a collection as well. I love cigars and pairing with the great whiskeys out there. I have a walk-in humidor built into my house that my wife had built for me about 4 years ago since I had way to many cigars to house in those tiny wineadors. I did notice that bomb coffee mug from Dun Barton and Trust at the end of the video! Keep up the great content and I will try to be apart of the live Monday shows.
I’m so glad you did the Early Times vs the 1924 comparison. I have been curious about that since the 1924 came out since they are the same distillate but the 1924 is aged a lot longer. I’m actually a little bummed the 1924 was so much better 😂 I really like the Early Times and it’s so much cheaper lol
I never had commented on your videos before, but this one was really interesting for someone like myself that has only been into bourbon for 1 year. Thank you for your input and comparison of the different bottles by price point.
Mixed results which is kind of the point of most commenters. Old Carter, is it worth the hunt and hype? Maybe some batches but not all. Anytime the contest if 'close' between a $60-70 bottle and a $150+ bottle that's a problem. In most cases it should be clear cut soon as you take a sip which is more expensive. Ever grab an expensive shirt? They don't feel like a cheap shirt from target. Same for basically every consumer good. You can tell the difference between affordable and luxury - especially if you are an enthusiast of those product. My two passions before bourbon were watches and gym equipment. I can tell a cheap piece of gym equipment (even a barbell) instantly. There is a quality difference. Watches? Hell yeah. Some people like to bash stuff like Rolex and Audemars Piguet but if you ever handle a luxury watch you will instantly notice the differences. In both passions there are KILLER budget options that really do compare to the best luxury brands. Those are exceptions and not the norms. In bourbon though... it's actually more of a norm BECAUSE pricing is so arbitrary and based on hype as much as anything else. Is Russels 13 or single Rickhouse that far removed from a good private select (where they actually went and did a barrel select)? Not really but they SHOULD BE. 9/10 times the more expensive product should be better in most categories. Palate preferences vary but things like mouthfeel, complexity, and finish are all things that any bourbon enthusiast can grade even if the flavor profile isn't what they prefer.
Early times black top vs blue top is the same juice. The Sazerac juice won't be ready until the end of this year going into next year. Something must be happening during the bottling process at Sazerac that is giving it a different flavor.

Love this concept. My wife and I have done this a few times too and had similar experience that I’m the cheap date on the coin flip bottles.

That is awesome! Cheers!!
Great video!! There’s no doubt some expensive bottles are just special but when you find cheap special bottles that’s way better!!
Great video. I want to get my hands on that 1924.
Really enjoyed this one…great comparison on higher vs lower price. Then should be an ongoing comparison.

Welcome!! We appreciate the support! Utah is beautiful! That’s awesome about your humidor! We are big fans of Dunbarton :)! Thanks for watching!!
OGD 114 is one of the best budget bottles in my opinion. It is the perfect mixture of price and flavor
Well done Dara & Bill, luving my OF 1924 👍
Excellent idea for an episode! Wouldn't mind seeing a Round 2 sometime.
The crazy thing is that I can’t find early times BIB near me. I see the Early Times that comes in a plastic bottle.
Love the 6x head to head. Bring it back. Also high dollar vs shelter…..🔥

This reinforces my rule that at 50-60 bucks, try before you buy. Great format.

Really enjoy these types of videos. Haven’t found the 1924 for msrp but idk if I can pull the trigger at $190 😅
This is exactly why I'm not going over $125 for anything unless it's Four Roses LE . CHEERS 🍻
This would make a fantastic series to do. Really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I hope you feel better soon. Love the video as always
Thank you!
Really wanting to try that early times BIB, cannot find it in the Ofallon area
Saw Knob Creek 12 for $129 at my local liquor store.

Not fair! You guys knew what you were drinking almost every time.
She’s got the better palate by far
I know a spot in Littleton that always seems to have the KC 12 on hand all the time. Just sayin. Haha
Great video!
Bills a cheap date.
Compare their infinity mixes. All the premiums in one glass vs budgets mixed in one glass.
Oh no isn't that the black cap you sent to the bourbon junkies that was just awful?😂
