Had 2 lessons on this and been practicing for a few weeks my ball striking and consistency has massively improved. Swing feels like it flows more and tempo is much smoother. Playing my best golf was 2 over for the front 9 yesterday. Great video not seen your channel before today.
Once again, it is the simple breakdown which has improved my swing again. A previous video I watched of yours emphasizing releasing the club improved my shot. But this helped the inconstancies I was having. Went to the range today. And this time keeping my club connected with my front body so not swinging it away and wrapping around my back too soon showed really good results. More control. Thanks so much for your help once again!
Just found your TH-cam feed. I’m 71 and some of this stuff really resonates with me. Looking forward to learning some great moves from you. Thanks Alex
This might be the best golf tip I've ever got. Sunday, I struggled terribly and was very discouraged. I saw this tip yesterday (Monday) and without any practice at all, my swing was transformed and I had my best round of the year today.
Fantastic! And thanks so much for coming back and sharing the success. Well done and keep at it. Hope we have others here suited to you and your game too. Cheers
Hi Alex; I have a tip I found for myself that really helps my takeaway, but perhaps in past videos you may have covered it & I haven't seen it. All that's involved is that before you start the club back, use a small slow forward press with your legs & really loose arms, without lifting the club from the ground which, if done properly, creates a small bit of momentum to get the swing started rather than yanking it back as happens from a static address position &.makes it nearly impossible to move the club too quickly into the backswing due to your weight & club moving forward 1st. This works really well for me by keeping me slower into the takeaway. Be Well!
New to your channel but not to golf and have been struggling with my backswing for ages. Sometimes I'd play well but mostly not, untill I watched this lesson and also the one about tilting instead of trying for the wide takeaway. These lessons fixed my backswing IMMEDIATELY ! So consequently I'm no longer losing distance or shanking the ball and for this I'm very grateful to you mate...cheers from a very happy golfer 👍

@@TheArtofSimpleGolf I've been working on the exact same things. The key is to focus on the club head moving at the same speed as the arms, torso, shoulders and hips, all connected and extending the backswing as far as possible. The takeaway start on the target line.

This video was so helpful. I used it today and played so much better. I was taking the club too much inside yesterday and couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. Much better with this instruction
making the game more enjoyable and easier - without too many mental thoughts or one that is hard in your body - is a great objective and you explain it well.
100% my main issue. Bringing the club back straight and keeping my hands as quiet as I can helps so much. I would have good days and more bad days when I would take it back quick inside. Way easier to go over the top when the club is so far back on the inside
watching this tip makes me realise how simple golf can be! After having myriad swing thoughts yesterday to the point where I thought my head was going to explode (62 on back 9 and wanting to give up golf altogether), this is a God send! (Larry-San Diego) Alex this lesson taking the club to far on the inside hits the nail on the head. For years i tended to roll my wrist and forearms which results in a lifting of the club. Will incorporate this drill to fix this swing killer - thanks.

With no range practice, I went straight on course and found I could keep the club in front of my chest, and the inside path disappeared. Short story, zero shanks and -7 to my hdcp. Great tip, thanks.

Good for you and much appreciated. The take is not always the most important aspect, but sometimes can really mess up even good players if it “feels” off or out sync
Another great day of ball striking today with this tip. Dramatic improvement with my irons, not as good with Driver but still improved. Best thing is that it is starting to feel natural because at first it felt very weird.
I’ve been playing golf for about 12 years. I wish I had known about this back then! I learned this in a recent lesson thank God, and it makes the swing so much easier! Steep on the way up and a shallow in to out swing on the way down!
Nice simple tutorial - thanks. I think the area I struggle the most (no doubt a common problem) is turning the body to match the rotation of the arms. Being a senior golfer it does not get any easier and have to do constant reminders...hence watching your excellent video.
Brilliant video Alex. I have one perennial doubt - when you say start the backswing by moving your left chest down, is it a 'turning' (at an angle since we are bending from the hips) motion or is it a dip of the left shoulder? If I dip the left shoulder down, my arms lift up but if I 'turn' the left chest, the arms stay closer to the ground. Any thoughts to find the correct takeaway body motion will help
I'm sorry to be so late in responding.. sometimes they get lost as get hundreds a day:( Anyway... It is hard to say.. because it is what it feels like to you :) For most, the shoulder goind down... won;t actually go too low. its the tilt of the shoulders on the angle. They most likely will feel steeper. And key is to feel very supple in the wrist. almost the clubhead lag on takeaway
I have try this so many times it works on the range but on the golf it dissappears and I alway tinker with my swing but now that I see it again the way you explain it I am going to stick to it.thanks.

very simple and effective however i have a tendency for a long arm swing which is frustrating i tried this on the range yesterday and was impressed with the results!
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf would you always advocate keeping the hands out in front rather than inside eliminating the flatness, or how do you live with a flat swing?/
Yes, it’s me. It’s maddening. No matter how hard I try, I can’t correct it. I’m close to quitting the game because I am sick of the inconsistency. You are describing my swing first half of the video. I got to a + hcp last year too! But now I’m struggling with face contact and distance. 😞 ok, I’m gonna watch the 2nd half of your video and let you know…

Thanks and I would try to have excessive wrist suppleness. Have a Video on that... practice keep hands ahead and the supple wrists. This well help most
Fred, I struggled with that very thing. I developed an image of the driver being a pitchfork, tossing hay over my shoulder into a bin 2 meters (6') downline but in line with my butt. This forces my left shoulder to go down instead of around and my left wrist to stay flat. Hope it works for you. Cheers, Steve
I've "advanced" from a backswing that was absolutely flat at the top (shoulders & club) to a takeaway that ends up in the right place with good shoulder tilt but is inside all the way back. It feels like 2 steps to get there - the initial takeaway then a lift with the right arm. I knew it was wrong but until I saw this video I couldn't develop a feel that worked. Thanks ! I'll work with this.
Can you provide a swing tip to help me turn the core and the arms in one piece. I have a tendency to push the arms back and the core turns too late. Should I pull the club back with the right hand (pinkee and ring finger applying most pressure)?
What I have discovered is that I do best when my first move is just with the arms, no rotation of the chest or shoulders. what this does is get the left arm rotating early. then I can follow with turning the torso, etc. I think this works for me because I tend to rotate the left arm late in the swing, otherwise, or perhaps not enough.
You need to expand on the most important of that backswing. When the trail arm is on top of the lead arm, most golfers struggle how to hinge up from there.
A fundamental part of the swing and so easy to get wrong. When I'm not swinging well it is usually because I lose connection between the arms and the body and take the club away with the arms because I'm trying to follow the correct path back with the clubhead instead of using body rotation to initiate the take-away.. The hands go too far and push everything too much on the inside. Once that happens it usually results in a pull hook or occasionally a toe strike with the ball going high right and losing distance.
Good video. Would be helpful to see you apply your tips ie hit some balls. Strange to see a golf video without the instructor actually hitting balls. But this tip is a common one and you explain it well.
Fair enough. Many videos include me hitting shots though. Not always perfect either lol Sometimes it helps, others not needed. Everyone has their own swing too.
When my husband says I hacked at the ball, I understand. I showed him your vedio and he said that's what you do when you get tired. LOL THANKS think you stopped some arguements
I’ve played golf for over 40 years and have been plagued by the inside takeaway for almost all of that time. At first I did not comprehend and when “fixing” the whole game would go. I still must exaggerate the feeling of pushing it back on the outside each time I go. It’s a killer to have and worse trying to fix.
what you do not discuss is how the hands and arms move from the horizontal position to above the shoulder. No videos show this key transition ( it happens in less than a mini-second). What i mean is that your take-back is shown in slow-motion, but the transition to the next step is not. You simply say, then take it up...that is not enough because I often hinge my wrists at the wrong point. Can you do a clear demonstration of this.?
That's good.. bit prefer smooth over slow. Slow can lead to trying to place into positions and focussing on that rather than momentum. THink throwing a ball
Hard to see exactly at normal speed but your slow deliberate rehearsal of the short takeaway and actual start of the swing look different, ie in the actual I see clubface fanning open more.
On the position at knee high to the top, the hand wrist rotation during this action is not explained well. Amateurs don't understand that action and end up with the wrong wrist hand position at top. You over simplified that action.
Too many examples of how not to do it interrupts flow of instruction. Explain how to do without interruption then after you do this you might explain ways not to do it. However, your video is too long and jumbled by negative examples. Go positive!
Yes I understand your point. The reason why I did it like that was most folks really need to know what and if they do “wrong” and if the feel is what they might benefit from.
Go on... admit it.. your takeaway or how you try and start your swing can feel different most days. Do you struggle with just some of what I mention here and will you try even just one of the tips?

A fundamental part of the swing and so easy to get wrong. I showed him your vedio and he said that's what you do when you get tired. LOL THANKS think you stopped some arguements
Glad to be of assistance lol :)
6:40 is key. Feel the weight of the club.
100%
I’ve played golf for over 40 years and have been plagued by the inside takeaway for almost all of that time. At first I did not comprehend and when “fixing” the whole game would go. I still must exaggerate the feeling of pushing it back on the outside each time I go. It’s a killer to have and worse trying to fix.
Hope this helps you somewhat
Excellent, can I send you my swing videos for your comments please.....
We have service for online lessons on the website and also in our online club
what you do not discuss is how the hands and arms move from the horizontal position to above the shoulder.
Yes ! And I have a video already filmed and we probably be published in a few days!
Yeah, that’s me.
Hope it helps
Great tips. Tips just need less pontificating and get to directly to the point of lesson.
Got better:)

I find my biggest problem is when rush my backswing. When i slow down my backswing everything syncs in my swing.
That's good.. bit prefer smooth over slow. Slow can lead to trying to place into positions and focussing on that rather than momentum. THink throwing a ball
8:37 there's my takeaway (it even has the shut face)
Hope this helps simplify it for you
am 83. I enjoy your thoughts but would like more demonstration and less talking. thanks. Hank Matthews Texas USA

Excellent golf tip! But 6 minutes into video before you begin to show the correct backswing is too much.
Fair enough. Just try ensure folks know if they should apply it or not.
is that Justin Rose?
Where lol?
I keep the face “looking” at the ball
Ideal!!
Hard to see exactly at normal speed but your slow deliberate rehearsal of the short takeaway and actual start of the swing look different, ie in the actual I see clubface fanning open more.
I don't struggle with my take away.....just struggle with a lack of talent.
I shouldn’t laugh but that’s funny 😆
I’m sure you’re being a little harsh on yourself. Enjoy and process of learning and keep it simple
On the position at knee high to the top, the hand wrist rotation during this action is not explained well. Amateurs don't understand that action and end up with the wrong wrist hand position at top. You over simplified that action.
Can’t cover everything in one quick lesson
Even more confusing

Painfully slow getting to any point at all……
Sorry... older video and always learning and improving.
You’re making it too complex… not simple.
🤷🏻♂️🏌️♂️
Too many examples of how not to do it interrupts flow of instruction. Explain how to do without interruption then after you do this you might explain ways not to do it. However, your video is too long and jumbled by negative examples. Go positive!
Yes I understand your point. The reason why I did it like that was most folks really need to know what and if they do “wrong” and if the feel is what they might benefit from.
