@@TheArtofSimpleGolf I'm 75 years old, and just switched to a full progressive hybrid iron set. This will really help me make some slight adjustments. Thanks!
Even older golfer here. Moved from irons to hybrids years ago. Now moved from hybrids to fairway woods. Even better strike consistency, ball flight and distance. Happy old golfer!
Very old golfer here. I moved to fairway woods years ago and haven't missed a beat. My golf bag includes a driver, a 5 wood, a 7 wood, a 9 wood, and most importantly an 11 wood, plus 3 wedges and a putter.
Watched golf tutorials for years, and literally just watched yours for the first time today,,,incredibly simple and to the point, with a non condescending delivery,,wish I’d found your channel a few years ago
Thank you for this tip . At 74 yrs old I only have 6I down. The other clubs are hybrids and Fairway woods. This will certainly help me. Going out to play now.
Thanks Alex for showing me the mistakes I have been making with the Hybrid clubs, I am very inconsistant hitting them so I get flustered & leave them in the bag. This video is really going to help me with my Hybrids.
Excellent tips. You introduced the idea of "pushing the grip down" with the left hand. Has helped tremendously. Sometimes I forget what to do after that push down. Just maintain the angle through contact as long as possible?
This is helpful - the left foot flared out - I tend to push my balls low and to the left in the fairway. I'll try this approach on the driving range when it warms up.
Awesome tips. Love the 3 take aways. I loved hitting with my 21° and 27° hybrids, the crisps sounds at contact is sweet and the clubs are not feel heavy like the irons. I am gonna keep substitute by using my hybrids in place of those irons by adjusting club length/swings to the distance i wanted. So my bag would be simple, the driver, 2 hybrids, pw, sw and putter and maybe a 9. The rest of the irons are simply useless for me. 🤩
Perfect timing with this video Alex, as I received a used Cobra Air X 3H yesterday and promptly went to the range. Love this club. Off to the range again today, and this video is coming along for the session as well. Thoroughly enjoying your videos, thank you!!
Just love that you play Hogans. Had the BH - 5's (the wet season set), out for some on course practice yesterday. Can't wait for some sun to sharpen the blades! (Apex's). I don't get near the D you do but like to use the 21* VIKTR from about 225 out. Love the hit and flight of that club. Thanks for another great vid!
My entire set of clubs (3 thru PW) are hybrids. Should I use the same ball position as you showed for all the clubs? Right now, I usually put the ball position in the middle of my stance and I usually hit the right distance, but struggle with the ball going right or left...not consistently straight at all.
Something you said here resonated with me. You said that the hybrid swing is fairly level so therefore the clubface and hands should impact the ball at about the same time. Does that mean that the iron swing which is hitting down a bit imply that the hands win the race to the ball (forward shaft lean) and the driver swing which is hitting up indicate that the clubface wins the race to the ball?
Hi Alex, I am a new-be to your channel and I have found your tutorials very enlightening. I am a senior golfer (arthritic and a bit plump) with a slow swing speed. My question is, I have bought a set of Stealth Hybrids from a 3 down to a 7, would all of the ball placements be just behind my left heel or in the same position as using an iron?
Hi, depends on the angle of attack… but i would say play it a ball forward from normal ball position. If you tend to hit down on the ball all the time, it's fine to play at stock ball position. Test it 👍
hi i have balance issues because of neuropathy. trying to get back to golf after 10 years, are there any exercises for my feet specially for the follow thru so I do my weight shift(from right to left) and left my right heel
This is such a great video. I’m telling you, the fallacy of the hybrid club with older golfers is just that, a fallacy. They are for all ages. 3 tips. Swing within yourself, let the weight of the club do the work. Eyes down don’t move your head.
My ping 9W and 7W AND my Titleist 2H are built in needing forward shaft lean to square club. If I hit them no lean they go crazy left. It sucks, I wish I could just bring them back square.
I play 2-9 in hybrids, lee Trevino said amateurs should keep moving the ball back in their stance until they find their ball position. I’m in my 60s and now back to shooting low rounds.
AHAH moment. It took me ten years to learn / discover this and I'm giving it to your channel because it belongs there: arms should be vertical at address. This is a recipe for consistency and power. What is on a vertical axis will travel and come back on a vertical axis. Less moving parts. I don't know if you have already addressed this. Best wishes.
I have had much more success with the bottom of the arc target side, much more like a long iron. I started out like this and struggled for years. It may be because I am younger and have enough clubhead speed. I feel I enjoy the forgiveness of a hybrid but no compromises for a long iron.
My maytag stops after the wash cycle...the green light for rinse cycle is lit but the red light is off. If I push the Starr button it goes back to the beginning... I can put it manually onto the rinse cycle and it will continue and finish the washing...any idea what I can do...
Excellent explanation! My highest iron is a 6 iron...the biggest takeaway from the video is not compressing the hybrids like an iron and the neutral setup as I am always trying for the shaft to lean forward and rotate through. I love my hybrids but I have to aim considerably right because the ball is going left with a hook. Maybe this is the tip I needed to straighten them out. I don't have this tendency with irons or fairway woods and I have gotten use to aiming hybrids right.
thanks Alex , BUT theres one MODERN day question on hybrids that NEVER gets dealt with . I at 63 NOW have a FULL bag of HYBRIDS , ALL on line videos show us and demonstrate where to POSITION the ball for your STANDARD HYBRID/RESCUE CLUB , ie 4 AND 5 hybrid etc , but i 100 per cent need to KNOW where i position the ball for my LOB , SAND, GAP, AND PITCHING wedge HYBRIDS , ALSO my 5 , 6 ,7 , 8 ,9, HYBRIDS . Should i leave it at ONE HYBRID HEAD WIDTH , BACK from my left heel AS YOUVE INDICATED IN this VIDEO , or further back in my stance , please advise as im confused , and please PLEASE could YOU MAKE A NEW video SHOWING HOW TO STRIKE AND BALL POSITION when hitting HYBRID... WEDGES... , all we get at the moment , is the long distance HYBRIDS . THANKS
Hi Graham, thanks for the feedback and I will endeavor to see how well the info could be portrayed in one lesson. We do have an entire program on hybrids and fairway woods that’s in our membership. But may well make that available for individual purchase soon. In the mean time, it’s hard to give you precise info without knowing how the shorter ones fly, are you getting enough height? What happens if you move them back in stance? Do they go too low? Are you trying to lift them up too much? A slightly descending blow should impart more backspin this more height and stopping power. So try moving them back. If that feels strange and strike is still off, you may well be leaning back too much. Get more weight (65%) on front leg at set up. Test that out. 👍🏌️♂️
Making things simple has always been rewarding in any kind of activity or sport. No exception here in golf. Juste like you I can use my 4-iron rather efficiently but now that I have bought a 4-hybrid I no longer carry its iron competitor in my bag. Why the latter would give me an edge in any circumstances?
Great video, but it is difficult to see your club position through the wording on the screen. Suggest moving your wording to some other area of the screen.
I'm 63 and my hybrid 21 degree (Dunlop Utility) is my favorite club. Very forgiving.
