I hate to correct a master tech, but I'm pretty certain the dirty oil enters the outside of the pleats and the filtered oil exits through the center. This is why the center of the pleats has a perforated metal cylinder, to resist the pleats from collapsing with the direction of flow.
I had my parts Dept get me a few oil filters for my 6.7 from the Ford dealership next door, come to find that is the new filter. I have one on my truck now after doing my first LOF
Great video! Did my oil change last week. Went to Amazon, long wait for 2051, but have the new 2124's available. Didn't trust Amazon, so I walked into O'Reilly, and all they had available were the new 2124 models at the same price as the 2051 for around $22 and some change. Walmart not up to speed yet. So far no problems, 6.7 running great....thx for all the info!
My most recent oil change which was about 3 weeks ago was with the new 2124 after doing some research. Was caught off guard when I tried ordering a 2051 like always and received an email they were discontinued. I do enjoy wix filters as well
You know Arod has been hanging out with the kiddo when he says stuff like "cutty-wuty". Interesting video, thanks for bringing us along. New filter looks like it might be a hair better
Locally I can only buy my filters from the dealer. There are none in the after market other then on line. The dealer are only selling the 2124 at $40 with tax. I am happy to see that it looks to be a better filter and should help in filtering my 013.
Something I’d like to add as I was just at the dealer for my filters and I questioned the number change in which they couldn’t explain lol but the price DOUBLED for us up here in Canada 🇨🇦 new number new price I said… but at least with your video I see they have improved it not sure if it’s double but lmao
The FL-2124 is a synthetic media and the OG FL-2051S are a closer to a glass or glass enhanced cellulose media. Both do phenomenal for filtration but the synthetic media flows a bit better. These filters should be made by Mann Hummel who bought out both Wix and Purolator. They own a few others as well. Micron rating assumed: 20 micron at 95% or better. It’s possible to be 15 micron but we will see once the literature is released.
Probably since the media looks different it’s easier to track any potential problems by changing the numbers. Silicone may also be different or at least different color .
Yo mane, thanks for the video, new filter look pretty legit, I'll have to stock up, got a few years worth of 2051's, but I'll have to get the new style... Also, new boots are looking FRESH as well! 128k subs, keep rippin' baby!
I just about had a heart attack after changing the oil in my 6.7. After starting the engine, I just happened to look at the old 2051 filter in the drain pan and the box that the 2124 came in and thought, ohhh sheeeet!!! they gave me the wrong filter!!! I immediately went to a ARod video to see what the deal was? I feel better now.
Oh hey I was wondering about this as our dealership finally got some more powerstroke filters, we’ve been stocking Balwin filters because of backorder issues up on the north side of the border
I can see there are more pleats, but how deep do the pleats go? If they don’t go as deep as the first generation oil filter, then there may not be really any difference other than the filter material.
I think the oil goes the other way ! But I believe the reinforcement in the paper is for 100% synthetic oil Wix has a special designation for synthetic oil filters as do many other brands , Ford maybe has an all in one kind of deal ? Maybe , maybe not ,,,, but I am sure about 5he oil flow deal,,, love the channel
Is bigger always better with oil filters? The reason I asked that is Will that fit a 6.2 gasser? Are the threads different? Do the gaskets not match up? I've always liked the idea of running the biggest oil filter I could fit on, more volume of oil the better. Does anyone know why it wouldn't fit.
Just a thought... Remove the silly rubber handle from your "CAT" Can Opener, mount that big ass handle in a good Bench Vise... Now you can use TWO hands to rotate the Filter Housing while adjusting the screw clamp putting pressure on the RIDGE BRAND PIPE CUTTER WHEELS... and you'll open it up in less than a minute... No, I'm not a factory trained mechanic but... I have been selling Industrial Tools for over 43 years. 🙂🇺🇸 I was also a (CMS) Commodity Management Supplier to the St. Louis Ford Assembly Plant for six years. I still have my Licence Plate Frame that was given to me by the Tool Stores Manager that reads "I WORK FOR FORD, I DRIVE A FORD" I have many great memories from my time working with the people at that plant. It manufacturerd The Ford Aerostar Minivans. 😟 Then the Explorer's came out along with Mercury Mountaneer and Lincoln Aviator. All different trim levels on a Explorer frame, suspension, engines and transmissions. Just different interiors and exterior trim. Sorry.... I'll shut up now.
Looks like the new filter has all Synthetic media which gives higher flow rate and smaller micron rating and can hold more contaminates while maintaining the flow rate. The benefits of synthetic media over paper cellulouse media. Its why I stopped using mopar oil filter on my 6.7 Cummins and use the Fleetguard synthetic media or Amsoil's oil filters.
8:03 I was always under the impression the oil went the other way…down through the little holes and to the outside of the pleats and into the centre and back up through the big hole…when mechanics cut the filters open to investigate the source of engine failures, always check the outside of the pleats…maybe this one is different but it doesn’t really make sense…🤔
12:10 @ARod My best guess on the numbers on the filter cans is this: (Disclaimer, this is Nyborg's SWAG). First 4 digits is a lot number. Last 5 digits is a sequence number in that filter's production run. Again, just my guess. Good info today!
Does the new (FL2124s) come with the info directly printed on the white metal filter or is it a stick on label? The old (FL2051s) has it's label directly printed on the metal filter, right? Could these be fakes from Amazon?
The date code starts with the second digit. The filter in your left hand date is 02-11-22. The right hand filter is 09-15-22. Don't know what the other digits mean, possibly production numbers such as shift, batch, line or run numbers.
I am using the K&N HP 4005 10 mc now over the 20 mc Motorcraft . The last Ford mechanic didn’t remove the old gasket and put the new filter on top of the old gasket leaked like crazy. Am I correct the Motorcraft filter is 20 mc ?
I’m always flabbergasted when people double gasket. I mean yeah, maybe my incompetent neighbor did it, but it should never happen to someone who changes oil filters for a living
it's not a rubber anti drain back valve...it is a silicone anti drain back valve. It says right on the box above the part number "silicone valve". Also the letter S at the end of the part number means it is a silicone valve filter.
Off topic. 2022 King Ranch Tremor... My lane keep assist completely disappeared from my dash and I can't get it to come back. I can change settings but i can't get it back up on the display. Anyone else?
My question would be is using the 2051 ok i still have a few around. Will warranty work be denied if using the old filter? I mean it shouldn’t with the magnuson moss act, but I Got a free Amsoil eo98 with my was oil order so was going to us that one up.
I just did my oil change today and last night kinda just found out they had a replacement filter. Actually relieved you did a video on it because I wasnt sure if I was retarded and put the wrong filter on my truck. : p

@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod lol...
That is correct
Does it matter at this point
Put the cutter in the vise and use a oil filter wrench to spin the filter
I had my parts Dept get me a few oil filters for my 6.7 from the Ford dealership next door, come to find that is the new filter. I have one on my truck now after doing my first LOF
Thanks for the comparison. Ford is finally trying to catch up to our Amsoil full flow

The spring in the bottom is a by-pass spring should your filter get plugged. The oil pressure will push the filter down and flow at the top.

You can get the motorcraft filter online from 21 -28 bucks... I'm all for supporting your local business... but, not that much.

Just bought a 3 pack of Donaldson filters. Great reviews!
Just bought a 12 pk of 2051s @ $16 each... won't have to buy another filter for quite a while.
Will Walmart take them back now as a return if you have your receipt? Great Video. Cheers.
Not sure
I wonder how these compare to Amsoil filters... I have a three change supply of Amsoil 5w-40 and filters waiting in the wings.

Intersting material in the FL-2124 filter. i think it have longer filter life
Just got my oil changed at dealership they put a 2124 oil filter that is why I wanted to watch this video
Looked identical until you ripped into the Fabric...good comparison.
Hey budddddy
This 2124 looks exactly like the inside of the black filter that comes on the engine from the factory. Wish I took pictures when I cut it open.
Changed my oil last month and my parts dept had the new filters in stock
Couldn’t get a FoMoCo filter anywhere last oil change, first time using anything else but it is a WIX. Damn thing was 3 times the price of the FoMoCo.
FL-1A and FL-1995 for life!
Cool video. Your watch is badazz!
Found it in a movie!

Because they are the supplier
@powerstroketechtalkwarod so would I use the new filter on my 2018 6.7, or stay with the original?
In the discription it says for '23 6.7's.
The new filter supersedes the old filter

I use a large pipe cutter to open my filters. Couldn’t justify the price of the fancy filter cutters.
Any chance you'd cut a royal purple 40-2051 open too?

Hope it doesn’t put any restrictions on oil pump
The filter media on the new filter is a synthetic media where the old one is cellulose blend. Everything else is the same.
I still have a couple 2051's left before I make the switch on my 2018.

Perhaps easier to clamp cutting jig to work bench, then use a strap wrench on the filter

What filter wrench do you use and a part number for it
how does Ford oem 2051 compare to Wix and Fleetgard for quality???
