Mann, Mahle, and Hengst are the OEM for countless European brands, Including BMW and many VAG products. As long as you aren’t getting counterfeit filters, there is literally no reason to buy anything else, hoping for more.
@@XcoolcoolbeansbeansX When in doubt go with OEM. That is what my mechanics (Two different owners) do for our VOLVO OEM and an OEM Toyota filter for my 2023 Lexus ES300h.
OEM is good, but be aware you can get "Genuine non-genuine" described parts, that are made on the same production line, to the exact same standards and tolerances, but sold under the brand name of the OEM supplier long after a particular model is no longer supported by the cars manufacturer - I got a new fuel pump recently, rather then being ordered through the dealership, I got it from local distributor, direct from the OEM supplier, and was charged under half what the OEM branded pump would cost. Same pump, just no middle man markup.

Hello, 35 years ago I worked at an airport on all ground support equipment. We proved time and time again WIX was the clear winner by miles by doing what you just showed with every company that wanted our business. More than 25 manufacturers participated. Thanks for holding up to a GOLD, (pun intended) standard.
@@ivok9846 Most manufactures are out of business in far less than 40 years. Filters are better than ever, even the worst are a little better. Filtration is a science, WIX gold were the best you could buy.
I just bought a couple of dozen Napa Platinum filters for multiple makes a few weeks ago. I just checked all of them and they are Mann-Hummel filters, made in USA. Blood pressure is back to normal... for now.

Mann Hummel purchased Wix years ago. Mann Hummel has factories all over the world. Wix has their regular line and their Wix XP. I’ve seen Wix filters made in the US, Mexico, China, Slovakia and Poland.
No clue how this video got recommended to me but grateful it did. I use NAPA gold on my cars, well I used to use NAPA gold after watching this. Thanks for the PSA.
Alright, I’ll bite on this. As a NAPA store manager I’ll try to clarify this. As most everyone knows NAPA filters were made by Wix up until September 2023 when we introduced Premium Guard as our new supplier, as both Man+Hummel and Premium Guard both supply our filters now. The eastern US is supplied by Premium Guard and the western is supplied by Man+Hummel. NAPAs reasoning for bringing in a new supplier was because during/after the pandemic Wix was not able to provide NAPA with sufficient stock. I remember not being able to get common filters for Ford/GM trucks for over 6 months back in 2021 from Wix. As well as supply issues we also were experiencing major QC issues from Wix, such as mislabeled filters, filters with incorrect threads and even filters with no threads.
We’ve been getting Luber Finer filters in as Wix Filters. I’ve never really heard of Luber Finer but did some research. On the internet at work and they been around a long time.
Nearly a century after inventing the oil filter, Purolator continues manufacturing to the high standard maintained by American workers in Fayetteville, North Carolina. You'll find those filters protecting engines on every back road, main street and highway in communities like yours around the country. MANN+HUMMEL Purolator Filters LLC, more commonly known as Purolator, is an American manufacturer of oil and air filters, based in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Since 2013, it has been a subsidiary of German filter manufacturer Mann+Hummel. You'll notice most NAPA stores are in areas with less competition and their prices are generally very high. In our small town we have 3-4 parts stores and NAPA is always my last choice especially on filters due to price. I try to purchase filters on the net mostly, from a trusted source because of knock offs. Last time i bought filters in town for my Jetta TDI they (carquest who claim their filters are wix) stuck me for $90 for a fuel and oil filters, never again $54 for a cartridge fuel filter is ridiculous, the same filter from Mann is like $14 to $18. I keep at least 2. filters on hand for all my vehicles now and lots of oil. Tractor Supply and Bi-Mart stores here carry Purolator Filters and that's what i have been using. I've always been partial to Baldwin but their filters are made all over the world now. Hard to get anything American made these days.
Purolators quality control is garbage and has been for over 10 years. Google "purolator tearing" Its a well known issue and purolator refuses to even acknowledge the problem.
yeah but a lot of ppl taking apart Purolator oil filters in past few years have seen issues. Though Mann owns them, they seem different from typical Mann type engineering levels
Here in Australia, we used to have high quality filters made locally by a company called Ryco. No longer made here I am told, and now on the cheap end of the spectrum, so I feel for you losing manufacturing capability.
I own a NAPA store & it depends on where you are, Western US is still supplied with WIX filters for NAPA Gold filters. Eastern US NAPA Gold filters are supplied by Donaldson/Baldwin Filters. This is because WIX could not supply enough filters. When they told us about it they said they prefer WIX & would change back if WIX gets in the position to be able to keep up with the demand. WIX has manufacturing facilities all over the world & they are not all made in USA, a lot are from Mexico now. In Utah though I can confirm they still say WIX Mann/Hummel on the filters & boxes.
I agree, far as I have noticed NAPA filters here in the West still say Mann Hummell on them. I will go check my shelves on Monday and see what is there.
I am a mechanic and have been a loyal NAPA guy for a long time but I will never call them again, mainly because of the brake rotors and pads the premium rotors are not even lasting a year and the ceramic pads are turning customers wheels black and my local store will not even warranty this crap, I am so mad (not at you sir) I am very happy with Orielly just did a brake job on an F150 with the new select pro stuff I think it was the best brake job I have ever done any input you have would be great but if a rotor has a 2 year warranty and is flaking away in 11 months it should be replaced and ceramic pads should not have black dust my local store just says we will send them back and see what they say that is not good enough, I have spent over 2 thousand dollars just taking the NAPA brakes off and replacing it with Orielly parts
Thanks for the post. Wix is and was a good brand. Mann will see their quality is maintained. I have had the good fortune to tour their manufacturing facility. 👍
Great video I appreciate it working in manufacturing for the last 30 years I know how it goes with companies buying other companies most of the time they make the parts cheaper and someone's job in that company to find the cheapest parts they can to manufacture whatever their manufacturing
I use Wix filters on everything I own, including my blown drag car. I cut them open after use to look for signs of wear and trouble internally. Fram left the game back in the late 70's to early 80's
Thanks for this video! I use napa gold filters and did notice that at one point the o-rings werent sealing very well anymore causing oil to leak from the filter/housing. This explains why. I will no longer use napa gold. Sad day for Napa Auto Parts.
been usin' napa gold for years w/no problems. don't drive as much any more since retirement, but have always changed oil every 3-4,000 mi. everything changes, & usually they make it cheaper & charge more for it. i don't mind payin' for quality. good info. thanks!
If you believe it filters 99% @ 20-25 microns you're probably wrong. Only a very narrow margin of their filters do that. Many Specification Sheets have been posted online. Do a search, enter your exact part# and Specification Sheet to find the truth. Failing that all you have to do is send them a request that they send you the Specification Sheet of your exact part number and they will send it. Do not accept the advertising info and do not accept word of mouth over the phone. All I'm going to say is there's some heavy shenanigans going on.
@@OtisFlint In the majority of cases the true numbers are not what's on the box. It's the marketing team at work. 27 years in the auto diesel and industrial Maintenance I have never seen an engine fail due to a lesser quality filter. Just change the oil within a reasonable time frame .
Exactly. The arguments about a little excess glue and typesetting are all details around the edges with little to no impact on performance. The filter paper will outlast the oil so buy what's cheapest and of reasonable quality.
I agree ... was in the heavy vehicle industry for 50+ years ... not seen an engine failure caused by filter ... just renew oil and filter at recommended frequency.
The only time that I personally know of a filter failing was when a friend of mine put a Fram PH8 filter on his perfectly restored 1968 440 Super Bee... The filter media fell apart and went through the engine doing significant damage to it. I haven't used one since. That was quite a few years ago now and I hope that Fram has gotten better today.
Toyota,Lexus & Honda I go to the local dealer and buy OEM Oil,Air,Cabin & Fuel filters. Fluids by quart or gallon. Cudos and respect to Royalty for cutting filters and caring enough to buy the tool.
I worked As the filter salesman for Big A, in the early 90,s! I’ve used Wix for all my vehicles for over 30 years! Yes, back then, NAPA, and Big A were Wix filters! The owner of Car Quest is an old parts guy, that I worked with at Big A. So dumbly, I presumed they were still Wix! Really super glad you posted this! I’m very narcissistic about my maintenance! Preventive maintenance I like to call it! I saw Wix filters at O Riellys, so that’s where I’ll be getting my next filters! Again thanks for this valuable info!
Big A was started by 3 former..disgruntled Napa executives...the company ceased due to bankruptcy a year after finding out they were overstating company assets.

I’ve been running napa gold filters for years on my farm equipment…. Well no longer . I got an oil filter from napa for my John Deere 4100 tractor . Changed the oil and started the tractor . It blew the oil seal out in 5 minutes and pumped all the oil out . I was dumbfounded never had that problem, thankfully I was there and was able to shut the tractor off before any damage could be done . I took the filter off and the gasket felt like a rubber band … put it back on got it really tight … thinking it wasn’t tight enough put more oil in it and it blew again…. Went back to napa they gave me a new one . Put it on and it blew out in 5 minutes….. started to do some investigating… the napa gold was no longer made in the USA but Vietnam. So I knew suppliers had changed. . Went back to Napa got my money back and put a John Deere filter on. No problems since … that pice of junk napa filter could have cost me an engine . And the old filter was a Napa gold , I examined the two filters and found out the new red spongy gasket on the new filter is noticeably smaller in height than the original one. So it must have been able to blow it out from under the filter . That was my conclusion. Unfortunately I do not trust napa anymore … so I’ll ether go wix or John Deere for now on.
@@user-sf9pq5ox7w napa filters might be fine with other engines…. But at lest for the yanmar engine that was in my John Deere 4100… I will not use Napa filters anymore on it. Our 1025r and 855d gator also use the same filters .. I will steer clear from Napa on those . Unfortunately cause I had suck a bad experience…. I’m just afraid to you Napa filters on any of my equipment. And just an fyi … the John Deere filter is going strong with on the 4100 …. No problems.
I replaced all of the filters on my JD this spring. I assumed that Deere filters would be high priced but they were right inline with Wix. So, I bought all Deere filters.
@@RustyorBrokenyeah I was surprised wix and John Deere filters are priced better then Napa . For example, at the time of writing this . Napa cost for a hydraulic filter for my 5075e is 108$ I believe…. John Deere is 58 and wix was about the same price . Oil filter for the 5075e Napa was 22$ and John Deere is 11$ . Now that I know Napa is no longer using wix … I’ll probably not buy there filters anymore… especially since there’s so much more expensive. It’s a shame to cause now I’ll have to buy off line and not local stores anymore … oh well
Get an American Made Wix from OReillys or Autozone.I think you will be better off. K&N is not bad either in my opinion. Look at TH-cam for filter comparisons with many of them cut apart. Interesting.
Very interesting, I buy a lot of Napa filters for our shop trucks and a few guys at the local store were telling me inventory was going through a transition to a new supplier. The last ones I bought were still the good filters, I'll have to keep an eye out for when the next ones hit their inventory. Thanks for sharing!
In my shop, I use wix gold or wix protec because we could get them in bluk. When I took over I inherited a bunch of no name crap. If I knew then what I know now, I would have never took over someone else's shop. I would have just started my own. Love your videos, I have learned a lot, thanks.
Excellent video, totally agree with everything. Own-brand labels like NAPA buy from whatever manufacturer gives them the best deal, and this can change over time. Similarly, ownership of companies also changes - as you said, Fram are no longer the same firm they were in the past. Cheaping out on parts is always a false economy - Mann is my preferred filter supplier, but I also use Bosch and Delphi when appropriate.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Just about an hour ago I was placing a large filter order on the NAPA online site. There was a problem and their site failed. I was mad and placed the order with O'reillys. Now I see this and I am glad that happened. NAPA was my go to for filters for well over 25 years. I want WIX, so I guess I will change my supplier.
On my Mazdas , I use Mazda filters . They are made in Thailand or Taiwan. As for my 2004 mach1, I use motorcraft or Purolator BOSS. Never had any issues. Being that I do my own oil changes, I don’t mind paying $13 -$16 for a filter. Good to see that you look out for your customers. But then again, you cannot control what happens during manufacturing of any part you install.
Wow. You guys are truly committed to providing top quality. That's the kind of shop you learn to trust, and then just say, "I'm not dealing with it anymore; I trust them."
I've been running Mobil 1 oil filters for decades at this point. But I've always known the Wix filters to be high quality as well. Appreciate the heads up on the change at NAPA.
I admire your dedication to delivering a quality product to your clients. The degradation of the quality of parts in recent history has really taken a toll on customers' experience with repair shops. Mine too. I paid a bunch of labor to have a fuel tank dropped only for the shop to put in a low quality fuel pump and lets just say the quality is nothing like OE and it still bugs the heck out of me with its hissing heard from 30' away. The one time I let them source their own parts and that is what I get. OE only for me from now on. They might be made in a foreign country now, but I hope that they care about their reputation and have quality control standards. This is more likely with OE parts.
Years back there was test in local magazine testing oil filters. Mann won it. It had best combination of filtration efficiency and dirt capacity. I’ve been using Mann ever since. Must be hard to balance between the two. 100% efficiency would be nice, but it wouldn’t flow and clog easily. Once clogged, it would flow through bypass and there’s virtually no filtration at that point.
I work one time for.. As a town mechanic. I went with baldwin filters.. There were many reasons why.. As well Cost.. They came in about 20% cheaper than anyone else. On some filters, it was over a $100 cheaper... This was about twelve years ago.. At that time they were american made. Who knows about today .??
I use WIX XP exclusively with a Mobil one synthetic. My 15 F150 with 3.5 ecoboost has 440,000 miles on original engine. All my vehicles and tractors get the highest grade Wix filters for oil and air. I’m sure there are other good ones too but hard to argue with evidenced based science. Now a commenter stated Napa had switched suppliers from Wix because of supply issues during Covid. I do believe this is true because I had a hard time finding them and would order 5 at a time on Amazon. NAPA store manager told me a similar tale. So I believe it to be mostly correct
Im from Germany and i can tell that Mann-Hummel Company is goin together with the Wix-Filtron Company now. I only buy genuine MANN for maintaining our 3 Volkswagens in the family.
Great info, thanks! Always used Wix on my big trucks as an owner/operator doing my own service work. Have been using NAPA on my pickup the past few years for convenience, (they're close by) I will make sure to purchase Wix from now on. Thanks for the heads up.
I've used napa and Purolator in the past. Where I'm at now we use mostly mann, but have some oe, mahle and hengst depending on availability. I've had a some bad filter issues I suspect were mostly from being dropped and a few napa ones that had bad threads
I just use OEM filters. Our VW OEM filters says made by Mann in Germany on them, and for the Nissan OEM filter for our truck, Not sure who makes them doesn't say, but says made in Mexico. I just stick with OEM oil filters, but I do use Aftermarket Engine air and HVAC filters. To each their own I guess.
Vw owner and I always buy filter direct from the dealer. Even though I can get the mann filters from napa. But they never have them in stock and also double the price lol
So if you buy the MANN filter from a parts store other than the VW dealer, you get the genuine filter just with out the VW/Audi logo and usually cheaper too. But it is the same filter.
@@pudermcgavin4462 There are a number of sites that sell both OE and OEM Volkswagen filters: FCP Euro, Deutsche Auto Parts, ECS Tuning, etc. I've used both Hengst (OEM for my VW), and Purolator Boss, since the latter has been tested as one of the best on the market.
great video, some years back i ran a buddies forklift parts and service department , I've always owned Volvos for 40 yrs and always used OEM filters, in the shop we always used Wix filters on everything ,absolutely everything ,we did theft open test with a Volvo filter that fit my car and a Wix filter and they were surprisingly close in style and quality, at the time the Volvo filter was 3 bucks more and then i found out i could buy the Wix filters cheaper if i bought 6 at a time which meant they were 6 bucks cheaper than the Volvo filter, so i bought a case, then 2 flats when i went to the local supplier that one Saturday morning, i just had to comeback in a hour to get them from the warehouse, i had enough oil filters for the next 5 years and its simply true Wix makes very good quality filters and i do use Mann filters also extremely high quality, cheap oil filters shorten engine life, this much i have seen in the heavy machine industry 👍
So, if the cheap glue breaks up and is sent into the crankcase, to the pump, that's okay? And a cheap stamped spring VS a coil spring doesn't keep the top sealed, that's okay? Street cars are 99.9999% of the market. If you are right, the market should just get rid of all filters except the cheapest and charge racers $500/filter for one which sustains the pressure, filtration and flow?
@@glloydphilpott9630 Keep fantasizing about those fairy goblins that never happen in the real world if you change your oil filters at recommended intervals. I can see you in your grandma's attic, stroking away while you write imaginary tales about oil filters.
I use MANN filters in all of my cars. My W221 Mercedes had them as oem filters and I think if they are used there then they are good. I also use them for engine and interior filters. They are a little bit more expensive then other filters here in germany but it isn't that big difference - quality is more important. Hengst Mahle and MANN are from germany :) I have never seen WIX here in a shop.
I had two oil filter cartridges (just paper) recently which both came out with a hole inside the filter material. The hole looked as if it was cut into the material as a bypass. I only can assume, that the pressure was too high, because the filters were clogged up. The engines (X18XE1) were in both cases the same but from different cars ( Opel Vectra B 1.8 16V).
Napa Gold manufacturer varies by location. My store in Illinois is still made by wix however some locations are made by Premium Guard. Unfortunately, when Mann Hummel bought wix their supply chain suffered and they couldn’t keep up. To take the pressure off of wix, Napa now has split territories and the supplier is different depending on where you live.
Thank you for a very good video showing how times have changed in the service/repair business. All the decades we had our shop we used NAPA filters and they were made by Affinia Group in the WIX factory in N. Carolina. I retired before the purchase by MANN+Hummel. Like you said NAPA probably couldn't reach a deal with M+H and went somewhere else. We never had issues with NAPA. We used M+H and Bosch filters for the European vehicles we worked on (Audi, VW, Porche, BMW, SAAB and Volvo). Never had issues there either. For the domestic stuff we used Motorcraft and AC Delco also if the customer wanted them. Right before I retired we switched to O'Reilly parts because the new owner (from Czech Republic) got a killer deal from them regarding warranty issues and delivery times were cut in half. The shop is no longer a NAPA service center and the new owner has stopped servicing and repairing anything domestic or Asian. Strictly Audi, VW, BMW- Mini, and Porsche. Times have indeed changed!
For sure great info, it’s amazing that even the OEM’s will change filter manufacturers, having seen some of the back to back comparison folks have done the quality difference is huge. I personally will only use Amsoil’s EA filters in my own vehicles, but I have to order those!! Should I need to change oil on a customer’s vehicle either that comes into my home workshop or I travel to for diagnostic testing, pre tuning vehicle health checks/fixes, engine installation and proper break in, or any specialty part installations. I’ll only use or recommend Wix Gold, Puralator Boss, or K&N oil filter as those are the only decent filters obtainable at the local chain parts stores. PS: I see that Topdon Topscan dongle sitting in the Amazon box back there. It’s a brilliant little tool compared to many others out there that cost more. To have All Systems Scan, Full System Bi-Directional capability and not just a couple service resets that other companies claim to be bi-directional control. This guy will do real system component active testing, all from a phone app and Dongle you can toss in the glove box or your pocket for $100. Best part is it’s not locked to one vehicle or vehicle make like other companies. Just a small yearly subscription fee after the first year or two is peanuts compared to some tools yearly subscription costs. 👍
Thank you for the great information! I've used Wix Gold for many years on my 93 Chevy Astro and 06 Tahoe. Then the "switch" happened, and I knew because the metal cap wrenches I've used no longer fit. For my last oil changes I've had to stuff some paper towel in to get a hold on them to remove and tighten them up and it still was a challenge. And no, I don't tighten like crazy. I have psoriatic arthritis in my hands and on my 93 4.3, the inspection cover is so close to the filter, I can't get the palm of my hand and fingers on the filter. And on my 06 5.3, the oil pan is shaped that I can't get the palm of my hand and fingers in there also. I don't have the strength nor pain tolerance to just use my fingers in these situations; I used to years ago. But now I need to be able to use either a tool or be able to use the palm of my hands to help my fingers as well. I'll definitely have to get to O'Reilly and measure any new filters I buy for these cars and purchase the proper metal cap wrenches. So they did change even the Wix Gold in that perspective.
Good to know that Wix is still considered a quality filter. I've been using them in our cars and my kids' cars for years. Never had a problem. When a manufacturer goes to China for an important part, I'm done with them.
I worked at a VW/Audi parts dept for 25 years. We (obviously) always used OEM oil filters for our own brands, and used Wix for reconditioning off-makes for our used car dept. Our service dept saw a lot of expensive engine work (mostly Audi, turbo engines) because customers would get convenient discount oil changes at places that used the cheapest parts.
I'm guessing you're thinking of the 1.8T... A large part of the problems with those can be traced back to not using oil that met VW's specs, along with the longitudinally mounted versions (Passat,A4) having such a tiny oil capacity. Those engines REALLY need oil that meets the correct specifications or else they sludge badly.
I was literally about to say the same thing. I order my oil change kits from FCPEuro and know that Mann is a reputable company for my filters, as they are the OE supplier to VW/Audi and other German brands. Once he showed Wix was owned by Mann, I'd definitely trust Wix over all other brands. Tbh I really don't work on much outside of the German brands besides Infiniti, but anything owned by Mann is a go for me I guess.
I've jumped around over the years learning by buying things on sale. I have learned alot just paying attention on my Families (5)vehicles. I prefer WIX, but they are limited locally. Oddly enough I almost exclusively now get my oil and filters at MENARDS. They carry Purolator Filters and Valvoline Synthetic and are also priced competitively.
motorcycle owner, sometimes this is why people just stick with OEM filters if their vehicle is newer.. I ride a Honda so I buy the Honda part that is pushed by them, I pay more but I know I am getting what I am supposed to. You are very correct and keeping up with this stuff is a nightmare if you only ever look at it once in awhile.
Your video randomly popped up in my feed, so I gave it a watch. Happens that I need an oil change, so it looks like I'll be getting me a Wix filter. Thanks for the info.
I've been using AutoZone's STP XL oil filter for my 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid (part no. S3614XL). Made by Premium Guard, it's a good filter all-around with good design and good quality. Never had any issues. The oil stays very clean even at the end of a 5k mile service interval with Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0W-20.
something must be going on at NAPA because Eric. O. at south main auto had always used NAPA gold suspension parts and recently he said they must have changed vendors because the parts are absolutely crap now and he will not use them anymore.
I am the owner of Jims power steering in Akron Ohio and I can tell you this Mevotech stuff is junk that is NAPAs premium line it does not even last a year I am glad Eric O figured it out before it cost him thousands like it did me or at least I hope he did Eric is a great guy I love his videos
I replaced ball joints on my 06 ram 3500 less than a year ago. I bought the best napa labeled ones according to the napa guy. And in the last two months they went bad and ruined $990 in tires. And probably wasted my wheel bearings as well. Napa and harbor freight are paradoxical paths. Napa is turning into crap. While horror freight is spending time improving their quality.

The new NAPA Gold oil filter is made by Premium Guard. New contracts, new sourcing. I would take the MicroGard Select over the rest here, very clean inside, well made. Wix oil filters, when opened up, often have excess glue smeared around sloppily, and that could go down the bypass valve on cold, high-revving, starts. So MicroGard Select if you want the better one here. The new Napa Gold (Premium Guard) looks kinda good though, not bad, pretty clean.
Thanks so much for sharing all that the details between a different filters there. Since I started with Wix filters call me that's the only one I accept. In fact, I use Wix XP for my synthetic oils. The only time I had to skip on using Wix filters was during a shortage of covid. Keep sharing Bible content like that!
Yeah thats the way everything has been for awhile now, many times you think you are paying more for quality and after opening it you are found to be suckered!
Good video. Nice to know Napa has changed suppliers since I have used their filters for years. I wonder if the Napa Platinum has changed also. Have used Wix also for years and I think they are one of the better filters. Recently I have used Premium Guard filters and have cut them open . Most Premium Guard filters seem to be made in China or Korea. They look like a very good filter. The old Delco filters used to be very good also. Now they are made by Champ which also makes Walmart Super Tech filters. I have cut them open also and they look decent with a good filtration ratio.
Good catch. This happens constantly and it’s hard to catch them before they cause issues. If our vendors can’t tell me the manufacturer we won’t buy the parts. Some are really on top of that while others look at you like you’re nuts 😂
I have mostly used Fram oil filters (not orange can of doom) because of the black grippy surface they put on the bottom. I can take them off and put it back in with only my hands
So many formerly trusted "Made in USA" brands have shifted production off shore. Results in quality fluctuate. Glad to see this shop checking their products. My favorite oil change place shifts brands often but say even their trusted suppliers can get taken with cheap China made counterfit product. Cutting them open to check is the only way to know.
Strange/funny thing (slightly off topic). I have purchased several pieces of furniture which required assembly that were made in VN. The quality and fit were perfect. I did not have to make any mods or adjustments to any of the pieces.
Interstate battery has changed hands i don't know how many times. I asked our driver and he told me he didnt know who owns them now. In our fleet applications. They last about 2 years

@@usefullifetips9034 You have no argument from me that AMSOIL is superior to all oils.. However, I would never feel comfortable letting my oil go beyond 5000 miles. Especially since new vehicles don't have dipsticks. You can't even visually inspect the oil.
That's strange, we just stocked a bunch of Napa 7502MP filters (same filter just in a multi-pack box of 12) and they're branded as made in USA not china. I hope this isn't a sign that Napa filters are switching to Chinese suppliers for their filters and it was just a one off batch to fulfill demand.
@@theroyaltyautoservice You should see some of the new Motorcraft filters. The FL500S (produced by Purolator) has been superseded by a totally different number. When dissected it looks like a Wlmrt Super Tech with the plastic inner tube and all. Some have claimed it's a supply issue so this is temporary. I haven't seen that information posted by the manufacturer anywhere. Who knows..
Just beware that the box may say made in the USA (and is likely correct for the actual box itself), but the thing inside could still come from anywhere if not identified.
I always get Wix oil filters. Had heard NAPA and Wix were the same but things change as shown here. Good to know Wix still the standard. Rock Auto is half the price vs an auto parts store BTW.
A shop owner that takes the time to ensure hes getting what hes paying for, respectable. Ive always like mann filters but usually go with oem

Purolatpr boss filters are the best for sure
Like, is your "Jetta" American made?
Be American, Buy American
Buy American, Feed America.
Western US is closer to China.
But Eastern US is home to China Joe Biden.
All the latest Napa filters we have been getting in our shop say made in china on them. SE Pennsylvania
China Joe Biden is from SE Pennsylvania too!
No wonder the NAPA filters are made there. 10% for the Big Guy.

Unfortunately I do not trust napa anymore … so I’ll ether go wix or John Deere for now on.
i was using napa gold filters because of a review/testing/teardown of the filter on youtube- said they were the best. Go figure.

It's infuriating that it takes this much effort to stay informed on ONE part for a car. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for this. I'm not going to cut filters apart but now I'll look at the filters when I'm buying for the Made in America label.
I use Baldwin filters on everything. No issues!

BALDWIN AND LUBERFINER IS GOOD TOO
I had two oil filter cartridges (just paper) recently which both came out with a hole inside the filter material.
THAT may explain WHY the auto parts I work at has been having a hard time getting Wix filters in.

I've been doing a lot of research on which oil filters to use on my new Jeep. Thank you for helping my decision process.

I used mahle when I changed my valve cover gasket
Yes, the Mahle filters we get in Oz are all German made too, good quality.
Sherwood, great content! Thank You. I will be sticking with Wix XP.
@@puckcat22679and with the 1.8T, VW recommended the larger oil filter to add oil capacity and help with cooling.
You mean you don't want the self-detonating K&N that will cover your bike and the road in corrosion protection?
@@BlindIo42 corrosion protection? Yes. Everything else I can do without lol
OEM don't make their own filters, still subject to change suppliers over time. But hopefully they demand high quality
Pull them apart, they could be a fram.
Your video randomly popped up in my feed, so I gave it a watch. Happens that I need an oil change, so it looks like I'll be getting me a Wix filter. Thanks for the info.
Great job, thanks for the heads up!
Damn that is not good to hear.
Napa chassis is mevotech...has been since Spicer stopped making chassis parts.
@@highlandermachineworks5795 yes those ball joints were Mevotech chinese junk they do not even last a year I was a NAPA guy for decades, it cost me thousands before I realized they were just selling junk now
Heard of the switch. Immediatelty cut 2 7356s open. One pmi. One wix. Napa switched for a reason. Was not just because of supply.
Not many honest shop owners like this anymore.
Very informative.Thank you! I've been using Wix XP filters for years; glad to know their quality won't be compromised.
Notice that the Wix filter he is showing is NOT Wix XP.
@@Mikeydude001 I noticed!
@@jp-nq5wdwix xp has slightly better flow rates, but doesn’t filter as fine as the regular wix.
I use regular wix on everything.
@@internet_internetI don’t think I’ll switch but good to know. Thanks
100% agree. The only filters I’ve seen that are of the same quality as MicroGard are Denso-manufactured Mazda/Toyota OEM filters.
Exactly why I quit buying NAPA branded parts 30 years ago. You NEVER know what's actually in the box.
Yeah thats the way everything has been for awhile now, many times you think you are paying more for quality and after opening it you are found to be suckered!
Good info for sure. I'm sure you had some "choice words" for that NAPA dealer.
That's dirty pool. Thank you for letting us know. Shame on NAPA! Subbed.
Excellent to hear.
Thank you. What a WONDERFUL OWNER OPERATER. humbled bud. Keep going string my friend. Thanks tons
I have mostly used Fram oil filters (not orange can of doom) because of the black grippy surface they put on the bottom. I can take them off and put it back in with only my hands
So what are the "guts" like? 🤔
Thanks for that info. Here’s some info for you. Made in Vietnam “can be” a euphemism for Made in China and reboxed in Vietnam to beat the USA tariffs.
Strange/funny thing (slightly off topic). I have purchased several pieces of furniture which required assembly that were made in VN. The quality and fit were perfect. I did not have to make any mods or adjustments to any of the pieces.
Doubt it these days. Most Vietnamese co pansies don’t like China.
@@williamphelan8779I have a bookshelf that was made in Yugoslavia and uses Mexican sourced lumber.
Interstate battery has changed hands i don't know how many times. I asked our driver and he told me he didnt know who owns them now. In our fleet applications. They last about 2 years
Thanks for making this video.
As somebody who makes measurements the purelator oil filters for the win always
Thank you for the updated information. I use a Wix filter in my Challenger that is made in Poland. It's the same filter that Dodge brands as the SRT filter for Dodge Vipers.
I am a firm believer in using quality oil with quality oil filters like Mann and Wix.
Amsoil recommended pairing a Wix oil filter with their 6 month oil. But recommend pairing their Amsoil oil filter with their 25,000 mile oil.
@@usefullifetips9034 You have no argument from me that AMSOIL is superior to all oils.. However, I would never feel comfortable letting my oil go beyond 5000 miles. Especially since new vehicles don't have dipsticks. You can't even visually inspect the oil.
Sad to say those filters internally may be Purolator, bosch or a Mix n Match from any plant in the Mann Hummel conglomerate.
@@rfcasey just pop of the valve cover
Seen tons of filters opened up. The MicroGard Select is my current favorite filter. Quality construction, materials, finish, & price.
I do agree they look good but who knows what the exact filtering specifications on them are..
We were told they changed. Keep an eye out and let us know.
