When I’m bored on long commutes I bust out my best Saffron Olive voice and describe the traffic and nonsense happening around me. Usually always makes me grin
The one piece thing interested me so I watched a video of a guy discussing it in more detail. Apparently, the reason it started so late is because a large group was supposed to have 2 rounds of buys, and they just didnt get them. So the organizers had to figure out who all got buys and then re-pair the whole tournament.
I can see casting intrude on the mind on your opponents end step and splitting the piles into 5 and 0 coming up when your opponent is low on life. A 5/5 flyer with fake haste is a pretty real threat.
@@isaabd1334 The key is playing it on a deck that already wants to keep mana open. *Cough couhg * wandering emperor, counters, and removal *Cough Cough*.... Weird, I had a coughing bit on written text. What a funny thing.
100% with Richard on the topic of "dying to doomblade" is not a good argument anymore. Every threat at every point in the curve is a must kill in 2024, and your opponent is inevitably going to run out of removal spells. So they need to either deploy their own threats to stay alive, or they die to the threat that sticks.
White's getting a lot of strong cards this set. I've been trying to make Narset exile/tokens work for a while now and this lightning helix is very exciting. The biggest problems were reach and the painful mana base and this offsets both abd being able to recur it will be huge in increasing its consistency.
Unyielding Gatekeeper both pitching to and flickering solitude is also good and left unmentioned. also feels like solitude is one of the most underplayed cards in modern.
Strict Proctor stopped all permanents ETBs so it stops the one ring ETB. Doorkeeper will probably replace it unless there is a land or enchantment ETB that I am forgetting about.
Although Amulet is the thing that triggers, it triggers when lands ETB, so Strict Proctor technically has more text there. Not sure if it's worth it in that matchup because it'll probably only buy one turn, but it's technically better than the thrull. In terms of enchantments, it's probably just Leyline Binding, although that is a good one.
'My opponent had the sickest turn, and I was like "thanks god, sweet release, I can finally leave" ' Hahahahahahah, poor Crim, that tournament experience sounds awful.
Azorius may be really good in standard. The elephant is easy creature removal at instant speed so you don't even have to worry about Cavern of Souls. And of course the mana leak Plus in a full on draw go control deck, with intrude and emperor you're already leaving mana up for everything Long Goodbye is sick though
Crim talking about winning is a punishment reminds me of the South Park episode where the kids kept trying to lose the Little League playoffs to have an actual summer. They kept winning because their opponents managed to outlose them better than they could
Crim is thinking about the game at my speed here... I never want to say "no" to my opponents, because I want to give them the option to misplay. Light stax and taxation is way better than pure denial, because you're constantly presenting the opponent opportunities to throw the game. Counterspell doesn't let the opponent misplay. This exact concept is why Ward is actually stronger than Hexproof.
I know it isn't the point of this content, but archdruid's charm is goated in high power and low color green commander decks. Excited to use it in selvala
Question on how disguise works. I know it doesn't use the stack, but does the stack need to be empty in order to activate disguise? Or could you play unyielding gatekeeper in disguise, then if they target the creature, the ward goes on the stack, they pay the ward, and in response you pay the disguise in order to use its turning face up ability before it dies.
For the stack to be empty, it would worded activate only as a sorcery, or only during your turn or whatever. You can slip it face up as a special action at any time. So in response to your opponent paying the ward, free game!!
Hot take: disguise should have cost 2 mana. A 2 mana 2/2 with upside in 2024 magic is a dime a dozen. I think it's going to be difficult to play 2 mana 2/2s for 3 even with the flip up effect.
My real question is why Archdruids Charms Tutor Ability is not 2 Abilities. Search for a Land as one option or for a creature as the other option with an exile an artifact or enchantment seems still super strong.
I agree with Richard about the thrull. What deck actually wants this? Tempo? By the time it’s relevant against the Domain Ramp decks, aren’t you loosing anyway? Cool you stopped my Atraxa trigger but you played a 2-mana 1/2 flyer. I’ve got a 7-mana 7/7 flyer with a bunch of other keywords. Against the other decks what are you hating out? Graveyard Trespasser? Deep-Cavern Bat? Loran? Seems kinda unimpressive to me. How about control? Does control want a 1/2 flyer? Probably not. There are better cards to be running than this thrull, even from the sideboard it seems unimpressive. In cEDH, however, I could see it being meaningful. Some Stax builds already play Hushbringer and Strict Proctor to deal with Th’Oracle and other powerful ETB’s.
I don't think Long Goodbye is that great in standard because the removal that only hits 3cmc or less needs to be 1 mana. Your 2 mana removal spell needs to be able to answer Sheoldred or a 5-6 drop otherwise it's really awkward. This is specifically a standard issue though. It's better in pioneer and modern.
Did he say most cards are hating on control?!??!?! In this standard meta?!?!? Sorry my opponent is still removing creatures from the last game I lost. I must not have heard him correctly. Lmao
"Its a 1/2 so it doesnt die to bowmasters" my man Crim, Doorkeeper Thrulls ability says it doesnt die to bowmasters the stats are irrelevant to that point
I think the MKM cards are being overrated here. In a world where standard has cards that are timeless good, this set won't even make a ripple. All the 4 drops aren't as good as the only 4 that see play (sheoldred, wandering emperor, ertai, invasion of xendicar) Disguise is too slow in a format where everything needs to be 1 or 2 mana. Even the best counter spell "no more lies" is coming into a format with cavern of souls. I'm glad players are hyped about the set but worried for the disappointment in a few weeks.
Should they just not print black cards? What do you want them to do? Also, keep in mind they cancelled rotation so the broken cards feel extra egregious IMO.
@@starmanda88 maybe just stop giving it all of the power. Give other colors a chance, I don't play green but it would be nice to see more in standard. It is basically unplayable.
Try to avoid talking over each other so much. Some runs turn into a conversational congealed train wreck of non-coherent audio. Now days many podcasts are guilty of this, it's important to recognize as you continue to grow. All the best.
Richard has his place. He's the "Straight Man" to Seth's janky fantasies and Crim's exuberant postulations, while also representing the Magic Boomer mentality. He is my least favorite member of the three, but I like the foil he presents to the conversation, even if I don't find him relatable.

I love how "power creep" is also reprinting a card from 15 years ago. 21:42
A extra bonus of long goodbye, it also hits all creature lands (in creature form) in those counter decks as well.

I want to run Pick Your Poison in Commander just for the one game where you go last and all three of your opponents play the turn one soul ring.
You must take a pic for the achievement, i need to see this go viral
I love the art on No More Lies, it looks like he's powerwashing gunk away with his azorius magic
I'm pretty sure they play Strict Proctor over Hushbringer because 1/3 blocks Ragavan. It doesn't have to be more complicated than that sometimes haha.
27:26 strict Proctor effects permanents and hush bringer effects creatures only
I have an esper celestial toymaker deck that plays everything that says pile and people do not know how to choose piles
The thrull against any orcish bowmasters or one ring is just super good.

How does Proctor work with Urzas Saga?
@@Dunhilinathe lore counters are not etb triggers. They go onto the saga as it etbs, not when it etbs.

Doorkeeper Thrull into Phyrexian Dreadnaught seems like a fun turn 2. Not standard legal though.
Doorkeeper thrull seems interesting with evoke cards from both players.
