      Yeah, it is an activated ability of a Creature *card* , but when something says just "Creature", outside of something like "Protection from Creatures", it means specifically a Creature Permanent on the Battlefield. The top Boros deck doesn’t play helix because it’s a convoke deck. It has very little room for any card that doesn’t make a creature. The removal of case of the runaway express scales better in a go wide deck and Warleader’s Call has better reach in that type of deck. If Boros was more of a prowess or burn deck, it would definitely play helix. If red had better control support, then a jeskai control deck would spawn up and play helix. But the meta has lined up in a way that just doesn’t provide a home for helix.

    • @LunaLasceria
      @LunaLasceria 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    Dunno how Richard loves MDFCs and Lorien Revealed but somehow doesn’t see the value of Harvester of Misery. It collects evidence for 5, it is a creature in the yard (the easiest thing to recur), and it is flexible as either removal or a threat depending on the matchup. It’s not busted in either mode, but both sides are reasonably efficient with plenty of space for synergies.

  • @elijahwalker323
    @elijahwalker323 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    @20:00 I agree there is no way that a 2 mana flying, vigilance */3 that can allow you to loot each turn is bad in standard. @23:10 works with cryptic coat, and itself, realmbreaker, roaming throne, moon smithy, fleshgorger, steel seraph, krenko's buzzcrusher, braided net, mightstone and weakstone, those were like the best I could find. but it is also on ETB, it is going straight into my bernard deck if its affordable.

    Really surprised at how much Crim was underselling Mana Drain. It’s not just any counterspell, it’s the best non-free counterspell they’ve ever made. It’s tempo and ramp in one card. There’s a reason it’s banned or restricted in every format, lol.

    • @camerongrey3643
      @camerongrey3643 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Agree. I think he’s manifesting it staying off the banlist for his personal interest. I will say, though, that it feels like threats have outpaced answers in historic/timeless, and a lot of decks are just racing to do their busted thing before their opponent’s deck does. Still, will be surprised if it doesn’t get banned/restricted here too.

    Grand Abolisher's ability refers to permanents on the battlefield, even though it doesn't state it. So no, it doesn't stop Harvester of Misery just like it doesnt stop boseiju. Sad harvester isn't a spirit plant tho, it looks like a cactus folk.

    • @KarmicMishap

      Seth tends to take the most reasoned "middle ground" positions on card evaluation, debates, etc., whereas Richard and especially Crim tend to voice stronger, more extreme opinions one way or the other. It's less not knowing what they're talking about and more them finding it more interesting to plant their flag on "This card sucks!" or "This card is going to break the format!" than to take the more conservative "I can see where this could be good but it'll come down to the meta so we'll just have to wait and see" position on every card.

      Duelist is absolutely a constructed card. Baseline it’s a 2 mana 1/3 flying vigilance. It requires shockingly little to make it a 2/3 which looted. That’s just a solid value 2 drop. Your not planning to do some ridiculous combo kill thing where you get the card to one shot, but it’s a strong value 2 drop. And if you ever get a raffine trigger onto it it’s just insane. To be clear it’s a standard card, beyond that I don’t really think it cuts it, but card is good.

      It will be sweet in Slicer. It can gain 4 counters per round, and untapping a land let's you keep slinging pumps at Slicer each person's combat

    • @Kestral287
      @Kestral287 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Literally none of the abilities are the same, and most aren't very comperable.
      A +2/+2 pump versus a +1/+1 counter, eh probably a reasonable trade off. A creature can't block is so, so much worse than just killing creatures though; it has some different applications but an active U-Jitte just rules the battlefield and prevents so many creatures from even coming down because they'll just die. The land mode is an upgrade from life, probably in general and definitely in specific decks.
      But, half the counters. That's huge. One Jitte trigger gives four extra damage or kills two X/1s (or one X/2). One Lost Jitte trigger gives... one more damage. Or stops a single creature from blocking for a turn. That's not nearly as good.

    How did the new counterspell not make the list? It's a hard counter at 3, and it can replace itself for 3, as well as do both for 5. Its kind of an unholy marriage between Archmages Charm and Cryptic Command. May not be as powerfull as either, but, it has the qualities of both at a good rate for standard, so there is no doubt that control lists aren't running this.

    Jace Reawakened for Modern looks terrible the static effect along to me makes it unplayable. Modern is far too fast to have a card you can not play at all until your turn 4. This is Serra Avenger but at least Serra Avenger you can cheat into play with Aether Vial before turn 4. The idea that Cascade Decks like Living End would want to play this is even more laughable because it gets hit by Cascade. Can you imagine as a Living End player looking down lethal on the board to Cascade into Jace hearing sad trumpet noises "Wha, wha, wha, whaaaaaaa"

  • @friendo6257
    @friendo6257 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think I've figured out what bothers me so much about Richard. He doesn't do well with NUANCE. So when someone says Harvester of Misery can be situationally really good, it matches up really well against certain decks that are prominent in the meta, it's flexible at different points of the game and allows for both early and late game plays. Richard responds with "would you play disfigure if it was legal? stomp is so much better". Stomp is better Richard, well done. Astute observation. This is not Stomp. This is also not Disfigure. Maybe this seems too slow or too situational to make a big impact in standard. Maybe it's relegated to the sideboard in black based midrange decks. But it's still potentially good there. Your avid opposition to cogent points is so frustrating to listen to. I turn off half of your podcasts because it's just so annoying to hear you be so absolutely closed minded to clearly hedged takes on cards. They're not saying Harvester of Misery is super good and will take over the meta, so stop acting like that's what they're saying. Try on nuance for a podcast or two. I think it will suit you well.
