Man that Bombardment game was *rough* to watch. All I could think was "Turtle back the Confluence, blow up the Bombardment. Please blow up the Bombardment. *Please* blow up the Bombardment." Glad to see Bombardment is still super good though. Lightning Helix was such a massive upgrade for it.
Playing Confluence with the Arcane Bombardment out and them using Trasures because they were having mana issues. Seth: "Alright...I know how this goes: Cave-Cave-Cave..." Having a skyturtle in hand to get back the Confluence and stop them from going crazy with the bombardment practically the entire game. Seth: "We just have nothing that can answer that Arcane Bombardment" Food sitting on the battlefield begging to be copied and eaten to get back to a safe lifetotal. Seth: "We are just so low on life...we are going to die." I never wanted to reach through the screen and grab the mouse more. Really fun video and cool deck!
don't forget "we ran into literally the worst matchup" while playing a deck with 4 maindeck enchantment removal and 4+ ways to regrow the enchantment removal
You know a deck’s sweet when the game starts lagging And for those curious about the first game: Seth has 9 virtues on the battlefield (original + 8 copies), each tripling the mana a basic produces, each virtue tripling the mana of the previous one: (1 basic) X (3 to the power of 9) = 19 683 mana per basic land.
Also, for decks that have spelunking and fetch for a lot of basics, I’ve been liking Volatile fault a lot more than Field of Ruins lately. Same card except it’s a cave, it costs 1 less to activate but instead of a basic you get a treasure while the opponent gets their basic I made a G/R lands deck and the card really felt like it made a difference when I ran out of basics, also it was INSANELY sweet with Blossoming Tortoise and the other land reanimation spells like Worldsoul’s purge and Aftermath Analyst
So with 55 lands he could make literally ~1 million mana and Doppelgang for X = ~300,000 but there's not even remotely that amount of legal targets for it. It doesn't say copies of up to X targets permanents, it just says X target permanents, so X can't be more than the amount of permanents on the battlefield. Which means that Seth even tapping a single land there would already have more than enough mana to cast the largest Doppelgang possible. I guess he could get it back from the graveyard and just keep exponentially increasing the amount of permanents each time, but arena would probably break on the first try lol
Many have pointed out in the arcane bombardment match up that you could get back cosmium confluence to blow up the bombardment, but there is ALSO something to be said for playing out the turtle, and doppelganging it a bunch of times!! The opponent was VERY pinched on mana, and so would very much struggle to pay through all the copies of Ward 2 for each turtle! And if you keep even one, you can map onto it a bunch of times to beat down!!
Seth doesn't read cards. Its the reason he always says "if you read it closely" when spoiling cards despite literally just reading exactly what the card says.
Doppelgang is probably my favorite card in the set. What a fucking concept. Incredible name, art, and flavor text. Elegant effect, powerful but not OP.
Oof, that match against Arcane Bombardment was rough. Cosmium Confluence destroys enchantments too, could've gotten that back with a Skyturtle very early and won with Maws.
Honestly, super satisfying game against Humans even without Doppelgang. Popping off with Spelunking and the Discover lands and Virtue of Strength and Zendikar and drawing to cast a million spells was sick.
I'm sure someone said this but you could have sky turtled to get back confluence and used it to blow up the bombardment at like any point during that game
Here after making a deck with the thunder junction damage lands. Can say that I've had some fun and am still saving up wildcards to make the deck more functional.
In the arcane bombardment matchup, should one of the final dopplegang targets have been food token? Then you may be able to gain enough life to climb out of burn range for a few turns to set up better.
I played mono black magic's version of a doppelgang deck in historic which ramps out a x=10+ doppelgang on like t3-4. My problem with the deck is that the client basically dies if you go 7+ on a mana tripler or anything with a lot of triggers like soul sisters. Most of my matches end with the client breaking and either being a draw or just getting sent back to the homr screen.
Great video, that was a lot of fun to watch! So you mentioned some changes that you thought could help the deck, what cards would help it the most? Does there exist a non budget version of this deck? I appreciate the fact that you show how budget decks can be effective in their formats!
My experience with hyperramp into dopplegang is that if it doesn't crash the game then the opponent usually scoops. My version was the 8 man dork elves with 4 leyline, 4 llanowar tribes, nykthos, 2 then a handful of X spells. The X2GG one that makes elves, Hydroid Krasis, the blue finality (which is absurd with nykthos), and then doppelgang. You can easily hit a 10 mana finality on line turn 4 or 5 using only lands, untap all those and move into a massive dopplegang using the elves, copy the lands a bunch and then move into another dopplegang or finality/krasis to get another dopplegang and use those lands to go off again. You can combo dopplegangs and finality/Krasis on the same turn by copying lands.
@MTGGoldfish I loved the gameplay and went and cashed in all my wilds. And when I say all I mean all. I didn't have enough for "consuming tide" so I went with Flotsam/Jetsam playing on the casting my op stuff. The first game I doppelgang for X=5, next turn X=16. It was magical
Have you been able to find any kind of home for undergrowth recon? I'm really interested in this card for having a lot of the same energy as arcane bombardment, but that might also include unplayability. Other than "bad", what kind of deck wants this? Is infinite reuse of lands with sac abilities good enough? A control deck that runs heavy green perhaps?
I've been playing this a lot, definitely going to be sniping some deck tech from this video even before I'm done watching! If I get two in a row, especially if I can copy Hulking Raptor for the extra big mana bomb, I've been calling it 'activating the clown car' because that is suddenly a LOT of tokens on the board.
I’ll have to make a Doppelgang deck with Kiora Bests the Sea God. You can gang for 2, copying the saga and the kraken, and you’ll have 5 Krakens. All that is needed after is a proliferate on their turn.
23:15 Why not copy Glissa? Two glissas stop two tramplers, chump glissa with a beast, take two from sheoldred, you survive at 1 life. Yes Sheoldred is lethal for the following turn, but you have a witness protection in hand. Copying a legend-rule sheoldred in that situation is just so bad.
I think run 1-2 copies of mirror box. It will give you stronger outs against decks reliant on legendaries, which are quite common. Is bant possible for infinite blind mice? Would avoid the sketchy probability requirements of doppelgang to set up the mana for bigger doppelgang. Fun brew nonetheless

That first game, every basic would've tapped for 3^8 mana I believe? Which is about 6500 mana. Per basic land. Is there a limit on how much mana you can add to your pool on Arena?
I got a W with this deck against Boros aggro by making two copies of warleader's call and resolute reinforcements two turns in a row and the ETB's just machine gunned my opponent to death. It was amazing.
This deck is slow and hard to play so I lose a lot more than I win but it has been the most fun I've had playing magic in years. I've made some small modifications compared to the lists that I think help.
I wanna see a deck where u constantly trigger the 2 drop golgari enchantment that makes plants with self-mill and eldrazis that shuffle themselves back into your deck once they hit the graveyard till u mill your entire deck and everytime u self mill u just hit 8 graveyard shufflein triggers making huge plants and swinging for lethal
After testing this deck A LOT, it seems the max you can make X without the client crashing is 8. I’ve tried 10 and most of the time the client freezes and won’t recover, even after restarting it. I crashed the whole thing for 30 mins when I made x=30.
Hey Seth, love the deck!!! Also I'm curious, in game 1 why not make copies of the wandering emperor instead of the tokens? You can downtick her at instant speed to make the same amount of tokens plus you end up with the Planeswalker. Idk am I missing something?

He was worried about the 2/2 and trample but Glissa has first strike and takes care of their sheoldred if they attack and he could take 5 from glissa because he was going to gain life from his own sheoldred. I'm not sure why he was so scared of copying legendary creatures against aggro decks just because of legend rule Also not destroying bombardment the turn after they played it is definitely a decision

Sadly no because the legend rule is a state based effect and those are checked and resolved immediately as soon as their is priority. No time to activate or cast anything. Similar to someone at 0 life.
The most you can Dopplegang for on Arena is X=16. That makes 256 tokens, and the token limit is 255 if I remember right. Past that you're just trying to break arena, haha

Sadly no because the legend rule is a state based effect and those are checked and resolved immediately as soon as their is priority. No time to activate or cast anything. Similar to someone at 0 life.

The most you can Dopplegang for on Arena is X=16. That makes 256 tokens, and the token limit is 255 if I remember right. Past that you're just trying to break arena, haha
