Five Star weren't taken seriously in the UK, but this is a really classy pop song, all around - on a par with the Michael Jackson at his 1980s best. It's got a great melody, great harmony, nice lyrics, really beautifully sung and great production.

I’m American and when I do research on 80s R&B music, I feel like Five Star should’ve became more popular in America than they did back then. The group had so much talent and they were definitely ahead of their time. Nobody makes music this good anymore.
Now you'd know more than me here if you're researching it, but I have a few theories, one is that the mainstream U.S. record industry didn't want to invest in a band who to them were just U.K. copycats of 'the real thing', I can see their point. On the surface that's all they are but they're actually a great example of the U.K. 'returning the serve', taking something American and sending it back over with something added or changed from their own culture, even if it's just a different attitude. RnB in particular has a long, rich history of the two countries trading vibe. The other thing is I've noticed Five Star get a lot of youtube love and nostalgia from NYC, Chicago, Washington, Philadelphia, Boston, how they were big on the black and hispanic radio stations and you'd hear them on the street, out of beatboxes. I wasn't expecting that at all because in Ireland and England they were looked down on by a snobby music press as 'manufactured teeny pop'. I realise that in those urban areas of American, they're seen in the same light as say Lisa Lisa And The Cult Jam. . So they were not only too British but too 'urban' to be marketed as mainstream (consider that at exactly this time Clive Davis was literally bleaching Whitney, in his plan to make her America's new singing sweetheart). Basically racism.
@@deluxedjsireland224 That theory seems very legit. It’s a shame that Five Star’s success was affected by the public putting them in a box in both parts of the world.
