- Alexander O’Neal’s smash Criticize was released in 1987 and appears on his infamous All Mixed Up album and is his biggest UK hit to date. It reached No.4 in the United Kingdom and on the R&B chart in O'Neal's native United States. It was one of his only two hits to chart in the Republic of Ireland (reaching No.14). Criticize reached No.70 on the Billboard Hot 100. It features on O'Neal's second album Hearsay. The song is also featured in the soundtrack of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV on the in-game radio station "The Vibe 98.8".

I'm 60 years old now but in my younger days I used to frequent the night clubs in town back in the good old 80s. This song was always played every time I went to one particular night club called Squires. Hearing it brings back so many great memories. Thank you Alexander for some truly great songs and some truly great memories, from England 😊

This was my mothers theme song when I was baby. She always played this song and always said our immediately family was criticizing her. She had converted to Islam and the way she dressed, how many times she prayed down to the food she ate the rest if the family made a big deal out of it. She was passionate about her beliefs and her new found spirituality. One thing she didn't drop was the good R&B music...she wasnt dropping Alexander O'neal for nobody!!!! This man has no idea how liberating this song was for my mother...

I'm late to the party. Never heard of Alexander O'Neal until a couple months ago. I don't know what planet I lived on because I thought I was an 80's music guru. I was reading an article on Morris Day and the Time and heard the name. Looked him up. POW! Instant fan. Now, I know all the songs on every album and he is the best find of the year!! In 1986, I happened to get my 1st job as a teacher at his former HS in MS, North Natchez high School. I lived a mile from his mom (In Broadmoor) and met him at a club there in Natchez in '87. Went to the same college (Alcorn State). Not many people know, but he was an outstanding linebacker/defensive end in football. An All-around talented guy!!
