When I hear it again I'm often reminded of Tuesday 18th February 1986,the day when it would slip from its peak position of number 3 in the UK singles chart (which I probably had on the radio to that evening). Being in the middle of a short gap between having been laid off by my employer and being taken on again when the work picked up,I was at a loose end and in my characteristically ditzy minded state I met up with my closest friend at the time, who also had the day off for some reason. He had with him a girl who I only knew at the time by her pseudonym of choice,Penny Black. On a cold, clear day we ended up on a bit of a pub crawl even though it was morning/lunchtime/early afternoon. But because I was driving I had adopted a policy of a maximum of one pint of beer or glass of wine or whatever the beverage may be,then no more, and that is the policy I have stuck with to this day. I'd only passed my test three-and-a-half months before. So I had two half pints of beer (to make it last),two hours apart, before hitting the orange juices while they were sinking the drinks like there was no tomorrow. So I was driving my scarlet 1973 Ford Capri on a fairly aimless journey as they were deciding where to go next. He had cans of lager and she was drinking snowballs, and as the "party" flowed there were cans and bottles everywhere. I became in need to answer Mother Nature's call, but let them persuade me to carry on driving until we stopped at whatever establishment we would rock up at next. I was getting rather desperate by the time, somewhere around Pinner,or maybe Harrow,we were in a heavy build-up of traffic waiting for a set of red traffic lights ahead of us to change. They probably didn't stay green for long enough for all the traffic in front to get through them at the first,or even second, attempt. We were in the inner of two left hand lanes in front of those lights, and I became increasingly desperate as I waited and waited but still they would not change. In the end I could stand it no longer, and jumped out of the car, which stalled and bumped the back of the car in front - which drove off when the lights decided to change at last. I legged it along the pavement, round a left hand corner at the crossroads where the lights were and dashed inside someone's hedge into their front garden to take a pee,red-faced with embarrassment. Then a police car pulled up and a pair of coppers, not in uniform I think, nicked me. They asked me how much I'd had to drink, and when I told them they were disbelieving to say the least. They said that the car smelled like a brewery inside, which I could well believe as there were empty beer cans and bottles everywhere, even rolling around on the floor. They took me back to the police station, where I had to empty my pockets of my possessions and give them my particulars before taking a breathalyser test. I'd been given a keyring with a tab on it that said "SCOTLAND YARD YARD FLYING SQUAD". They laughed and asked if I was thinking of joining them. I think I said I'd never thought about it,or something silly like that. They said that if I don't get charged for being over the limit I was the luckiest man in England,or something similar. So I had to breathe into the tube on their static table-top breathalyser machine in the police station. The alcohol limit was 35 mg. The machine returned a reading of 1,to their incredulity. They made me take a second test. It returned a reading of 0! They were checking the machine to see if it was faulty, while I was trying not to laugh. In the end they were terribly nice to me about it all,as they gave me a lift back to where my car was parked beside the road, wished me well and sent me on my way home as darkness started to fall. I came out of it a lot better than my companions, who had gone and I found out, probably the next day,had to walk some distance in their inebriated state to get home.

System Addict is brilliant..the look the sound and the dance moves..Five Star at the top of their game
They came from ROMFORD ENGLAND 🎉🎉❤❤
release all 5 stars songs again , they would outsell the modern shit :D
Absolutely
+DatJack3695 easily, today's music is totally tuneless
+John Joannou so true
They wouldn't because people are only exposed to mainstream music. This is the sad truth.
agree on that girl
Anytime you can play something that came out dam near 30 years ago or longer and it still sounds just as good today as it did when it first came out that's real music. I love this song. Five Star was one of my favorite groups in the 80's.
Won't be able to say the same about the tripe that's out now Billie eyelashes and queen of sampling Beyonce.....all crap.
Someone should actually make a remake of this song depicting how addicted we are to Technology now. The right singer or group can completely rock this!! #SystemAddict
I dont think a remake is required. It's 100% accurate as it is lol
@@005AGIMA The kids won't listen to anything they regard as old though. We need to get the message through. There is such as disconnect going on -- they don't know any different
@@lxworld Steps just did A slightest touch so who knows
I............................don't like the sound of that.
@@malthus101 Lady Marga and Doris Pearson made it a 2022 song which sounds really catchy. :-)
🔥🔥🔥
That is surprisingly good quality for the early 80s
Late 80s
@@rugbydazz2264 Mid 80s
The BEST of the 80's is here, quite blatantly! 5 Star was EXCEPTIONAL 😍🤩 GOD BLESS THEM! The lead has an incredible voice 😘🤗🤗
Great music. What you call pop music. Whoever found these guys at the time hit GOLD, literally.
my first time seeing this particular video (2015). . .wow! I miss this group!
You're right, girl!
+Paul Langton-Rogers Thank you so much; hopefully they'll come to the U.S. (East Coast)
+Paul Langton-Rogers Kool! Thanks for the update
Beck devil's haircut
Miles ahead of most of the stuff today.
I still love these "kids" ever since the first time I saw them on VH-1 in 1986!!!
Yup 80's were the best.
+rita holguin They are still the best
Yes they are.
Still playing 80's because it doesn't get much better.
80s will always be the best musical years
70s, 80s, 90s were the best.
Great song. Wish they still made them like this classic
Another classic song from the 80's much much better than the crap we get now .. 30 years old this is and it sounds like it should be out today !!!!Quality doesn't even look dated
Absolutely loved this song as a kid. And years and years on...its still a fantastic song
1001 comments !! Love 5 Star !!! and I'm a massive Joy Division fan !!
Born in 1996. My dad had this on his CD playlist in 2005. Randomly rediscovered this song last week!
Check out all of Five Star's songs. Nearly all of them are fantastic.
@@ajs41 I've listened to "Problematic", their debut single. Didn't chart but definately should have!
@@hozonkai9967 That's a good song, before they were famous. Can't Wait Another Minute, Rain or Shine, Slightest Touch, Love Take Over are all great songs in my opinion.
someone build a time machine please!!! 80s is where it happened and started!!
talk a time machine going back to 1980s
Discount Jacksons 5
I'll be there right with you lol Love this song
Tell that to people in Seven oaks. Remember Michael Fish?
80s is watz up
The timing of this song is just impeccable with the dancing and vocals.
How bad does it feel that you have to return to 30 years ago to feel a sense of refreshing wholesome music. This group was so good! You didn't worry your kids were being corrupted by bad influence with this wonderful group... I miss them.
Seen this amazing group live back in the 1980's.
Favorite part of this song is the key change and breakdown, near the end! Had this album on repeat when I was a teen. I still have their first album!
I wonder if i ever will have a year without finding some awesome older music.
Quality track, easily falls in memory.
Saw them perform at an 80s festival one year, they were amazing - Doris the lead still had it - perfect voice. We are all now, over 30 years later - system addicts with our smartphones.
UNIQUE.
You mean Denise? That was the lead singer. Doris was the sister that did all of the choreography
The dancing is really really in sync....timing perfect and the songs good too ....
How I miss the 80's
you are kidding me about 1980s fashion i am a gen X
The song for these times. Can't believe this is old as I am, too. "Discovered" this group a couple months ago and this tune grew on me. Ah, the 80s.
so brilliant - such a smart family
What a beautiful and talented family these guys were...and still are
Michael Jackson influence there! Great song!
And Prince.
Way ahead of their time. Still love them to bits 💕💕💕
Imagine listening to this in July 1985 when it was first available on the Luxury Of Life album.
I. met five star Harlem in the 80s beautiful people inside and out. God blessyhem love and many more blessings.🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
I remember when this video was released! Now it's 2022 and still relevant and jammin'!😉
Almost every song they release was a hit… very underrated group! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This video is WAY ahead of it's time.
yes and No. it also looks like Duran Duran's wild Boys and Superman 3. so it's also based on George Orwell's 1984.
@@timafiggy Way Way ahead !
First time I have seen the video...I LOVED Five Star and I always thought the song was Sister Matic hahahah. That's my Catholic upbringing for you!
Brings back memories, I loved Five Star!!
Honesty it was way above its time then ,and come to think of it we have system addict now and l am even on of them.
Love this group.
Still listening in 2020,you can't beat the 80's
I just heard this song and forgot how much was in the video of today ❤ wow what a song !!! 🥰🥰
just heard it on 'SOT80s' with Gary Davies on BBC Radio 2 -- what an awesome song 🙂
I still ♥ love this song. Thank you 🙏 so much. ✌️ 💖 🙏 Levent 🦁

ITS SO GOOD
Often listen to this in my car as I've got it on a Music CD. Good song it is :D
Hell yeah! ..😎
Listening in October 2020
I heard half of this song on Greatest Hits this morning, and shit man I was super gutted to have missed it! So I typed in System Addict on TH-cam tonight. Five Star are really on top form with this slice of pure 80s feel good!
The lyrics of this song couldn’t be more true for today’s world
It's a really nice track! Lyrics are quite funny...'boxes that go beep'
Is that a good thing.???
@@andymatthews7617if you don't like it, don't listen to it
I’m surprised the song hasn’t been remade or covered, it’s maybe more relevant today than it was in 1985
Extremely underrated band! They were fab!
It’s 2020. And I’m still listening to 80’s music ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🕺🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾🕺🏾
We need more songs that sound like this today. Wayyyy ahead of it's time
Most 80's music was ahead of its time
