This song brings many tears to my eyes. I miss the 80s so very much. My whole family was alive and well, I had no worries and just loving life. I'm 51 now and most of my family have passed on and this world is far different than it once was.

It’s 42 years later and my x has terminal cancer and I thank God for keeping us as family. The four kids can lean on each other! This song I play everyday just for good memories!

When this song came out,, we had NO idea, that we would never be able to go back to the 80's again. So many fantastic memories fill my mind when i hear this song. The 80's were wonderful for me. I always get tears in my eyes whenever i hear this song. I would give anything to go back. Sit on the porch with my grandparents, have lunch with mom and just talk. Run and play with my dog. It was such a care free time for me filled with love. I am 62 and missing the world of the 80's.

It makes me sad that my children didn't have the same magical childhood I did growing up in the 80's. Amazing music, playing outside with my friends all day, riding bikes all over the neighborhood, drinking water from the hose, Atari, break dancing on the corner, lol. The world was more innocent and much brighter than today.

This song is indeed a Pop masterpiece. It's uplifting, has a beautiful melody, meaningful lyrics, a terrific chorus and is insanely catchy. Just doesn't get any better than that.
My first wife used to hold my newborn second son in her arms and swing around singing this song to my son. She has since passed and my son is now 35. This song brings me back yoo seeing her joy holding him and tears to my eyes.
I was just explaining to my fiancé (as I’m dancing and crying) the way my dad used to dance with my newborn daughter to this song. And then my niece. I told him this is the song I want to dance with my dad to at our wedding. Makes me tear up, remembering dancing with him as a little girl.

I was born in 83. It amazes me how 80s music is full of such unbridled optimism. They were positive the future was gonna be awesome. Not sure when it started but nihilism has firmly taken hold sometime since then.

As a child in my 80s, every time I had a chance, I prayed to God that Russia would not start a nuclear war. Every single day,. I was privileged, like many commenters here, to have lived during the '80s (born 1980) but enjoyed all of it and I remember listening to this album first on a walkman and eventually on a CD player on my family vacations to Wildwood, NJ in the late '80s and early '90s. The music in the 70s, 80s and 90s were the greatest! Even the movies then weren't sequels or rehashes of junk you didn't like the first time around.
A lot of the music then was hopeful, about love, about peace, and about trying to find it. Nothing today compares, though there's always hope for new music to evolve into something cool again.

To me, this one reminds me of a time when I was in 9th grade. It was a time when nobody really judged me for being a person of European descent. I had classmates who were of African descent, most of the people on my school bus were of African descent, and about half of my high school band was caucasion, and the other half was of African descent. We all got along, for the most part. Nobody seemed to care. We were in school to learn, and we were in the band to kick the shit out of the other schools band. That is what we worried about.

They were at a Whitney Houston concert and noticed a shooting star. This inspired this song. It was written for her, but she passed.

I am 73. I went to graduate school at 34. I taught 3 aerobic classes a day to help pay my tuition. What an incredible time. I was SOO young. So much happened in that decade that led to who I am today.

I had just started college when this song was released. And had started seriously seeing my wife (girlfriend then), who was crazy about this song...I grew to love it. Sadly she left me for Heaven Christmas morning 2015. She chose wisely...too much lymphoma treatment and lupus, can't blame her. This song takes me back to just a country road drive hearing her beautiful voice as she sang every word (she couldn't carry a tune in a bucket...LOL...but it was beautiful to me!) Thankful for the time machine called youtube...

George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam, fine songwriters who wrote a bunch of hits for others, primarily Whitney Houston, finally got a chance to record themselves in 1988 for RCA. Got this on on a cassette single (stores were phasing out 45's then), and later on CD. I was doing Country on WHPO back then, but saved this for later use on KBOA. While capturing a moment in time that no longer exists, the song is timeless.

1988, on vacation in Florida. This song was on every station in South Florida. I'd hear it twenty or thirty times a day and never got tired of hearing it. That holds true to this day.

2014 on a flight back from Amsterdam to Manchester after a old guys weekend we sang this 27 of us one the greatest moments in my life and a used to be on stage in musicals but this was so much more it was special one of those never going happen again moments

When you hear this song it takes you back to your younger years and makes you remember the times when you had little to no stress and no worries as a child or young teenager. it allows you to live those days all over again and calms you down and puts you in a good mood. I really miss the 80s I'm going to be 42 in March and I was born in 82 and I just loved being a little girl growing up in the 80s and 90s. The world had so much potential and we grew into such a cold-hearted world its sad. The music was great legends we're around etc. I really dislike what this world has become.... nothing like the 80s man..
