New Ford Ranger Raptor Review - Driven Hard In The Outback

- Unless you’re Australian, Australia is a very far away place. And unless you’re a cattle farmer, there’s not much reason to go into the Outback. But for the first ever Ranger Raptor, the company's first global Raptor, Ford wanted to build an offroad playground to show off what their new bakkie could do. And so we hopped on a few planes and made our way to Darwin, where we left the city and trekked into the interior.
The event team had carved two custom racetracks into the landscape, and we were given the opportunity to drive the car ourselves and "enjoy" one terror-lap with a pro-driver in the hot seat.
The result is a video with a lot of dust, some muffled screams and more drifting bakkies than you might have thought possible.
The Ranger Raptor is due to land in South Africa in early 2019 and unfortunately pricing has not yet been confirmed.

I sat in a new one of these trucks today and I must say even if I wont get a nose bleed from acceleration the overall package is very tempting. Its the only au available factory 4x4 that has reasonable ground clearance and offers everything I need from farm to beach. The price imo is probably 7k -9 k more than accessorising a new Ranger ute. As this is all done there's no time wasted taking to the various mod shops & legal to drive and insure. I also like the look of new Dodge Ram 150 60mm less ground clearance (360 hemi :) but the ram is designed for USA roads unlike this ute that was built for the Australian terrain...good review of what it can really do and it's seriously got me thinking!

@@angrysocialjusticewarrior The Hilux is no way near the Raptor standards... It will compete with the Ranger but the scores are tied when You compare a hilux with a ranger in my opinion...

I would have one on order already if it wasn't for the eye watering price tag.
If you never go offroad the raptor isn't needed. It's more than 160kg heavier than a standard wildtrak with the same engine, so it's slower. I don't really see the point of the raptor unless you intend giving it a very hard time offroad.

being an Aussie and seeing the reviews posted by Australian car jurnos like Car Advice they have absolutely no idea and like half the morons here think because it has the raptor name and doesnt make the earth shift with power they have missed the mark....you sir have hit the nail on the head about the fact the raptor name is about its off road ability and that no other ute in the world can do what it can do without modifications....you have just gained a subscriber
It is a bit of a shame about the power (reminiscent of the 5.4L V8 in the 2010 F150 Raptor) but good to see that the true core of a Raptor - the suspension - is appreciated by yall.
@@T4nkcommander So what do you want to do with a bigger power plan? You dont need it, it's not a drag or race car, it's a off roader and a city cruiser. In the city you cant speed anyhow.
Powder Skier it’s marketed as a performance ute with a tiny gutless engine. Everyone loves power, to say it doesn’t need it is completely stupidity.
@@reubs91 it's got heaps of power... I've got one and it blows the 3.2 engine away that is in my old XLT. This car is a package deal, it's a monster on fast gravel, amazingly sorted set up for a factory car...
It doesn't need more power... 130-150kph on gravel is plenty fast enough and this thing takes it easy.
It's great to see the Ford Ranger Raptor go through it's paces on the dirt. Power is plentiful if you want to play around in the dirt. Reading other views on the Raptor, the power complaints comes in regard to overtaking on Country roads or if you have a caravan in tow. A bigger engine would be heaps better and safer with better fuel economy than a 2liter twin turbo engine. Economy runs and especially on highway overtaking is faster and safer than the 2 liter twin turbo's. It's fantastic to see how much fun the Raptor is in the dirt, nothing beats it.

I live in the U.S., the only problem with this mini Raptor is the 2.0L turbo diesel. Diesels are great for pulling and fuel economy but they should have put the 2.7L EcoBoost in this truck. Performance would have been off the charts. But then again they may be for the U.S. market. U.S. is not going to get any of the diesels that are offered in the regular Rangers. Only a 2.3L EcoBoost 4cyl. Approximately 300hp and 280ish foot lbs torque. By the way, there was someone talking about the VW amarok. How German vehicles are better than U.S. vehicles🤣. I work in a shop. More germans have oil leaks than any other vehicle. BMW, MERCEDES, VW. After 60k on them you have to trade them in. They become rolling turds. In Germany I'm sure they are better. Colder climates. South United states with temperatures above 100°f in the summer's. They just cant hold up.
Tyler Davis depends on the vw and the owner mine is currently at 110500 n still runs good 👍 for a 12 yr old car did have an oil leak tho but that's cuz the dealer ship messed it up or should I say stealer ship lol I no longer go there car's been great ever since.

While I prefer my F150 Raptor, I'm quite jealous of the superior swaths of offroading territory you Australians will get to appreciate in the Ranger Raptor. You'd think Texas would be great for it, but most everything is private property.
So they made a crappier version of the ZR2 yet better than the TRD Pro? Glad to see 2 American companies bettering Toyota. Still like the ZR2 better but they are a close 1 and 2 for mid size off road IMHO.
