      Hey mate. This game had a super cool but subtitle feature that no one ever talks about. I’m one of the few people on earth who tried to finish this game in split screen with a friend and i noticed that in one of the missions some of the cops weren’t armed and would try and run away and hide during all the shooting. I got my friend to come over and look at a cop hiding behind a bin, but on his screen it was just a member of the public. Either we had a mad bug or the developer had made my characters delusions real. Still not sure either way, but it’s a fantastic idea

      Michael and Trevor really have a lot of similarities to Kane and Lynch that go way beyond the simple archetypal roles that they both fill, especially with Kane himself and Lynch's perception and constant criticism of Kane. Kane is regretful and family oriented- just like Michael. Kane has a tendency towards dishonesty and a history of betraying his criminal sidekicks- just like Michael. And Lynch is constantly yelling at Kane over his disloyalty and dishonesty- just like Trevor does to Michael. The big difference though is that with Kane and Lynch, everything actually makes sense. With GTA 5, why does Trevor just start tagging around with his buddy who betrayed him like nothing happened, and even when he finds out for sure that he got his other comrade (Brad) killed, he just acts very passive aggressively towards Michael, not once actually making any serious threats of hurting him like the violent psychopath we're supposed to believe he is.
      The roles of Kane and Lynch are very much reversed- Kane is the hardened, experienced mercenary, and Lynch is the soft newbie who would probably get his teeth kicked in by Kane if he actually tried anything towards him, which explains why he never does. Kane isn't the least bit intimidated by Lynch, and would definitely have killed him after the bank massacre if he didn't need him alive. Their relationship works because, even though they're two violent criminals who probably want each other dead, they have no choice but to work together because they're the only people they can count on. The same can't be said for Trevor and Michael- it doesn't make sense and makes Trevor come across as a whiny, clingy child.

      the newer rendering methods are what have improved, like TX anti-aliasing which actually deletes aliasing instead of FSAA which just blurs the edges and looks like the screen has vaseline on it, and john carmack's work in megatextures really makes the difference between last gen and current gen games night and day

    • @dimscrawl4910
      @dimscrawl4910 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@AleK0451 Eh... MoH Airborne and The Darkness still look fine. UE3 has aged like dogshit for sure, but most 7th gen games suffer more from poor colour grading and art direction than anything else. Hell, they were still using the Hitman 1 engine up until K&L2. Prefer supersampling to TXAA and megatexture doesn't impress me so much as object density in something like Hitman or Witcher 3.

    Despite all its numerous flaws, this will always be one of my favourite games.
    Like it or not, it did what it aimed to do perfectly, and that was adapting Of Mice And Men into a video game.
    It's not very big, it's not very detailed, but if you allow yourself to be immersed in the story, to identify with the characters, it's one of the most unique and memorable experiences you'll ever have.
    For the first time in a long time, I truly cared about the fates of the protagonists. I didn't just go through the motions in order to complete a series of tasks. I felt like I was desperately trying to uncock an utterly messed up situation, and for that, I believe this game deserves my eternal praise.
    People praise hitman, but despite all its technical wonders, I never was able to give a shit(I know it was kind of the point, but still) about any of the story or the characters. K&L gave me the kind of tingles I haven't felt from this developer since I first played Freedom Fighters.
    I understand everyone who hates this game, because the grass pop-in kind of kills the mood off the bat, but if I ever get drunk enough that I stop caring about bullshite like that, I always load in K&L 1-2 and have an absolute goddamned blast.
    "You-should-have-let-me-talk-to-them!"
    Never has a scene in a video game made me feel this much before, or after.

    Kane & Lynch has an interesting idea to it, and if given more time to flesh out the characters, the game would've been much better narrative-wise.

    • @rachelzhou1590
      @rachelzhou1590 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Agreed. If there was some semblance to a backstory to flesh out the title characters, then the story would've been more engaging.
      I mean, Kane was an ex-soldier, right? So maybe there was some kind of operation that gone south and he got discharged, so he turns to working for a crime organization for money. And Lynch could have an extreme case of PTSD, which would justify his psychotic episodes.
      Dunno, I'm just spitballing ideas.

Kane and lynch just takes every stiff, generic features of every post 90s shooters. The fact that this game came out 6 years after Max Payne 1, and is only 5 years older than Max Payne 3 shows how water down IO studios made everything to fit into a commercial product.

    Honestly, I just find this game pretty average.
    I love gritty crime narratives but Dead Men seems kinda meh when compared to other alternatives, both in movies and video games.
    It's not bad, but it's not particularly great, either.
    But at the same time, I have a soft spot for this game (as well as its sequel, believe it or not) and I don't regret ever playing it.

    • @archivedaccount5990

      Well, in terms of crime-based third person shooters, there isn't much to recommend, as majority of shooting games are either military or sci-fi (and in some cases, horror games or stealth titles), so my closest recommendation would probably be the GTA titles, as well as the sandbox game Sleeping Dogs, given the Shanghai setting.
      I dunno, it's kinda hard to find a game similar to Kane & Lynch, both in terms of gameplay and setting.

    • @PalaceDude
      @PalaceDude 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@archivedaccount5990 Exactly, whenever I try to think of an alternative it's always an open-world game. I also have a love/hate relationship with Dead Men. There is so much unused or waasted potential that in the right hands could have been a really outstanding game. Both Characters deserve to be fleshed out and the mexico mission really is a stain on an otherwise interessting story. I think Kane and Lynch deserve a remake with more depth, better gameplay/gunplay, extended story threads and a new epilogue and it could be massively improved. But unfortunately I doubt that Square/Enix will do something with the brand in the next years and IO Interactive only got the rights for Hitman and Freedom Fighters back. Such a shame :/
