I remember getting that on Christmas 2009, I asked my mother I wanted to get the new call of duty that year which was MW2, I was at my mates house a lot playing it with him since he always got COD early, I loved every second of MW2 and was excited for Christmas. Until Christmas morning when I went down stairs and saw my presents, I didn’t see any MW2 on my side of the living room or even on my brother side. But Wolfenstein 2009 at first I was really disappointed but I didn’t want to say anything to my mother and father that they might’ve or might’ve not gotten the wrong game. So I didn’t play it I just let it sit in it case covered around unopened plastic, I was just so disappointed even went on my PlayStation 3 and seeing my friend list filled with MW2 (not all some where offline and some had other games but 7/10 accounts where playing MW2, even my Mate who still got it early was still playing it on Christmas Day and for a long while) I just hopped on World At War as that was the first and only call of duty I had, trying to forget about the disappointment of my Christmas morning, later that day we all go to my Grandad and Nana House as they always host Christmas lunch and dinner and we stay there until midnight, but when I got there my Older cousin was there with his Xbox 360 set up on my Grandad TV, with MW2 on it, he was like this game is amazing and I agreed with him telling him the story amazing not spoiling to him but telling him it’s a massive fun rollercoaster of a story, he then asked me: where you playing MW2 this morning as well, where I respond: no my mother picked up the wrong game, he felt sorry for me as I was super eager to play MW2, during that day we where doing split screen 1v1 and winner will go against my brother or another cousin, it was a fun Christmas with all the cousin playing and competing against each other on the game. When we got back home it was late and I was just tired so I went to sleep, on 26th and until New Years I still haven’t opened my Wolfenstein 2009 of how disappointed I was still I didn’t even bothered going on the PlayStation, my brother was playing it a more he was playing Little Big Planet or some child game. It was at least the second or third week in January after the New Years, and for some reason I stopped trying to go against the game my mother bought and opened the game from it plastic and let it load on the PlayStation, It was alright for the first few mission of the game I understand the plot but thought it was generic until I got to the level where you get all the unique powers by the gem you obtain, then my mind was like WHAttt...!!! I completely fell in love with it then having unique abilities to go against the Nazi, I always love stopping time and shooting there back and let time play to see them fall, and the more I got into the game and the more bizarre and unique of the game and it’s characters and it environments, making enemies more different and unique gameplay and concept wise, I instantly regretted myself of thinking down of this game, I played it for months and ends of the campaign and even what little they had of Multiplayer I enjoyed as well, I even forgot about call of duty for months until Black Ops was announced. That’s my story of experience Wolfenstein for the first time and loving the franchise for it.
And the old blood just feelt like it was going backwards sadly I didnt really enjoyed it just played it through one time and then left it and the new colossus shit the bed like ? Old Blood is my favorite in the series. Story takes a backseat and let's the gameplay speak for itself as it should, kinda like Doom. The shooting and overall gameplay is fantastic, the world/atmosphere is phenomenal, and the story is straight forward and doesn't overstay it's welcome like New Order, new colossas, and Youngblood. But, I will be honest, Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a classic, nostalgic gem that my brother would take turns playing the single player campaign all weekend long when we were younger lads.
Old blood is boring, feels like im doing the same thing again and again and again, plus the paranormal aspect of it is what’s really killing this game. Don’t want ghools and goblin in a game about killing nazis
Wolfenstein 3D: Ugh. Ugh. Mein. Ugh. Mein leben. Mein leben. Ugh. Ugh. Mein leben. Ugh. Mein leben. Ugh. Ugh. Mein. Mein leben. Mein leben. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.
Wolfenstein The New Order beginning was impressive and scary. The just seeing "Baltic Sea, 1946" says to you that things hadnt come as it was supposed to be. And you later gonna see how much the germans evolved.
2009 Wolfenstein wasn't a reboot. It was the second game in the rebooted series, being a sequel to RtCW. Which is why Deathshead is the main baddie in the second half, continuing his character from Return. And, this gets continued in The New Order.
Aleksa Petrovic BJ makes reference to Deathshead’s X-Labs in The Old Blood, so there’s a direct connection to RTCW. There being two Agent Ones and fat Nazi women named Helga is just coincidence.
What i remembered from The New Order: "General Deathshead. Today he's teaching me a lesson. I've seen suffering and death, people maimed and tortured. Thought i'd seen it all, but i'd never seen true cruelty...until now. Count to 4, inhale. Count to 4, exhale..." What i remembered from The New Colossus: "It was space aliens, man!!!" I'll take TNO and TOB any day over TNC.
TNO kinda ruined deathshead though, made him this insane shithead instead of the calm and collected official with a dream that of course was murdered brutally in RTCW
@@retrowave762 didn't finish RtCW yet, nevertheless i still think they did a good job with most characters in TNO compared to its sequel. Gotta finish RtCW one day on my PC, though, to see the whole story.
Augusto Gonçalves Deathshead is right at the end, and the final thing you get before the final set of levels is enough characterization to establish him. You’ll see.
Same here. Not to mention, the stealth had been downgraded, there were no true bosses till the very end, and having 2 weapons wheels was incredibly clunky. Who wants a rifle in one hand and a pistol in another?
Same. I never wanted to save and load games so I used to just play the first 4 levels over and over again every day. 4 year old me even used to do speed runs of the first 4 levels it was so fun and I thought the graphics were crazy.
RTCW is still my fave Wolfy game, STILL waiting for someone to make a multiplayer game similar to it. Only game to ever get the medic's role in an FPS correct IMO.
Well, the devs who made the multiplayer made a game called dirty bomb. Basically the same core concept but with a very faint splash of hero shooter added to it.
Medic was overpowered in Enemy Territory; I think you're confusing "not intellectually challenging" with "getting it right"; I'd argue America's Army 2.8 did it more balanced and authentic.
@@Borganov20 the crap story that goes nowhere and the extremely stupid identity politics which brought the rest of the game down when you realize all the good characters are supposed to be dumber then the new one for reasons.
2009 wolfenstein is hugely underrated, I think people didn't love the idea of a hub map, they wanted an open world and felt like a hub map was a simple illusion and insulting to their intelligence, at least this is why I think it's so underrated.
My Rankings: 9: SoD Mission Packs-- Yeah, you about covered it. They just feel really shitty and bad. 8: Youngblood--The levels looks cool and it could have been fun but it just isn't a Wolfenstein game. Terrible balancing and the thing with the alternate dimensions was stupid. 7: Wolfenstein 2009--Just a mostly generic feeling game for the time with the quasi-open world and all. Basically just FEAR mixed with Far Cry but worse. 6: Spear of Destiny--Some fine levels, dated gameplay obviously. 5: Wolfenstein 3D--The one that started it all, it can still be fun in its own way but it can also be quite limited and boring. 4: The New Colossus: Disappointingly short and oddly balanced, but it still has some great story moments and ideas, not to mention unbelievably juicy and satisfying sound design and visual effects. Hopefully a setup for a good third installment. 3. RTCW: I don't have much nostalgia for it so to me it just seems a bit dated, but its unmistakably cool, creative, and well made. 2. The Old Blood: I see it as an updated version of RTCW. That said, it can feel a bit repetitive at times although I like how focused on pure action it is. 1. The New Order: A totally complete package of a story driven FPS, it broadened Wolfenstein's scope into the series it was always meant to be, took the player to so many places and through so many creative scenarios, and makes BJ and the gang all surprisingly compelling characters, all well making a serious case for why the nazis were your enemies all along and why the world they create would be so bad.
I have a real soft spot for Wolfenstein 2009, I wish Raven would have had the chance to make another one to iron it out and expand on it. Isenstadt's hub design is really dense and all the ways you can explore and move through it are a lot of fun, and I think they nailed the tone with the paranormal aspect.
Don't forget that the Wolfenstein series starts a lot earlier than, "Wolfenstein 3D." There's also, "Castle Wolfenstein," and, "Beyond Castle Wolfenstein," for the early generation computers as well.
Also it was of the few modern FPS from Raven Software we got after Heretic/Hexen series (i ignore any Call of Duty thingies they made). Even Singularity was somewhat inspired by Wolfestein series, like a spinoff in a different universe :)
I hated it. But I think it was mostly because the last instalment was so fucking good (one of the best FPS ever tbh) and I was expecting so much of this sequel, and don't forget it was 8 fucking years after, that the hate toward this just average game was exponential.
but the guy is right, it became too fuckin easy after those weapon upgrades. there should have been tougher enemies to deal with balancing the weapon upgrades.
Louis Kelemen Just snipe them when they land with the snooper rifle or grenade inside the entrance area back then steal the FG42 and use it against everyone else.

The New Colossus was incredibly frustrating because I was really enjoying myself when it was being, you know, a fucking game and not a rejected Tarantino movie. Yet they pulled a fucking Metal Gear Solid 4 by padding so much of the game with cutscenes and they game ends abruptly with a boss fight that you didn't even know was the last one and then you kill the main antagonist in a god damn QTE. I was absolutely blue balled and left with such a bad taste in my mouth that I didn't touch the game after that.
Dunno... I kinda liked it. Story starts out dark and desolate and progressively gets surreal and comical in a fever dream kind of way. The only bad thing I can tell really pulled my strings was the ending, but initial burst of hatred for the game that I felt at the last 5 minutes of it kind of got smoothed out by time and now that I look back at it I feel it was ok.
I think a lot o people skip it because those youtubers stick in the green dimension missing a lot of the great graphics and gore effects of the game. Fun fact it has way more gameplay than the new order and it last longer.
@@pandagaming4907 I suppose wolfenstein 3D is more a spiritual sequel to Castle Wolfenstein rather than direct sequel alas it was still the precursor for the series we know and love
The political message was too heavy handed, but I personally loved the game in general. Way better than the one with BJ and Annya's daughters, which I can't to this day finish. And I'm ome pf the few that loved 2009 as well.
I loved Wolfenstein 2009. I liked to joke that I thought the developers only made two mistakes: giving me a gun that was so fun to use that I didn't want to use any other gun (the particle gun) and then giving me double the ammo for it.
Actually, in timeline terms it would be: RTCW>2009>Old Blood>The New Order, the reason this makes slightly more sense is because the end cutscene of The Old Blood ties almost directly into The New Order's opening cutscene.
I don't hate the things kids these days play. I've actually played Fortnite myself. I just feel that I'd rather play Team Fortress 2 then even Fortnite. I did appreciate the TF2-ish cartoony art style the game sported. I just don't like how now every game nowadays needs to feature a "Battle Royal" mode. I don't like playing only to get killed in the first 30 seconds of landing by a guy who got lucky enough to snatch a legendary Sniper Rifle/Rocket Launcher and having to wait for 99 other players to die for the match to end. Especially if the 99 other players simply camp. I think that Return to Castle Wolfenstein is more strategic then Fortnite or at least less reliant on RNG/Luck.
Some reason Halo CE was on our school computers. The schools head teacher in IT even told a group of guys in my year how to uncover the hidden files to get to the launch exe. even though he knew damn well we weren't allowed to play it
My favorite was the one from 2009. I just love the whole concept with the black sun dimension, and being able to shift with the medallion. The visuals were amazing.
Played RTCW when i was 7 years old first time back in 2006 when my dad bought a PC and he bought the game so we can play it together and introduce me to gaming. Every 2-3 years from back then nostalgia hits harder and harder and I just finished it for like 50th time. Hands down one of the best fps games ever made.
I have been gaming for 30 years. I only given three games the perfect score of 10. This game is one of them. RTCW was perfect in every way. They should do a remaster of this game on modern consoles and PCs.
It's really awesome to see RTCW still at the top years later. I grew up with Enemy Territory and RTCW so that's really cool. I really like the Old Blood, as well
Honestly I think the biggest problem in the New Collosus (however it's spelt) isn't the writing or gameplay but the level design. It was absolutely shit tbh
Well compared to TNO to TNC. They change the engine and new coding, they had a small time compared to the previous game (6 years of development compared to the 3 years for TNC)
Yep, I got lost in nearly every single fucking level in that game, I even spent hours running around the fucking home base ship completely lost. There was a point in that fucking Manhatten level where I could honestly not progress for 2-3 hours and I thought the game just fucking broke. jesus fucking christ It has arguably some of the worst level design of any game I've ever played and I've been gaming since the 80s. Also the lack of health for the first 1/2 of the game and the fact the game wants you to play stealth and heavily punishes you for not playing stealth, but offering no stealth mechanics. Such a let down from TNO which was one of the best FPS games of the 10s.
One of the most memorable gaming milestones for me as a kid, was getting Wolf3d to run on a monochrome laptop that weight serious freight and had an early-gen LCD-display that just oozed unintentional motion blur and the lack of sound card meant blips and bloops rather than blood-curdling screams or the threatening, guttural demands from guards. And I was playing it from the kitchen table 😮 far out duder ! 🤙
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is just legendarily awesome. This is one of the first games I have played and maybe my favorite game. Everything about this game is just so good. It aged like fine wine and have very good replaybility value. The weapons and their noises , the soundtrack , the story , the character design was top notch. I agree that the stealth missions are slightly weird but still well done. If you haven't played this game then just play it. You can thank me later. Now all these years later it just need a graphics upgrade. Then its perfect !
I wish Wolfenstein (2009) was available on Steam, it's ridiculous that they removed it. I know I have a "copy" of it somewhere on an old external drive, but I don't wanna have to mess with that shit just to play it again. I remember kind of enjoying it.

I'm playing Wolfenstein: The New Order to get the platinum. Funny most of my friends like The New Colossus, sounded badass on my 7.1 surround sound. Personally The New Colossus was badass from beginning to end, we get to see a new USA dystopia, and it makes the jump to even more sci-fi territory for modern hardware.
Same for me, RTCW is nr. 1, I have to agree, but the New Colossus is very good game, especially game machanic wise. Love it, I think the reviewer dropped it so low down because unskippable cutscenes.. Yes, I am agree it shouldn't be unskippable. But I don't think that destroys the game so much, that it is placed down there!
Wolfenstein II was my 2017 game of the year. I was completely enamored with the story and how narrative points would force a change in gameplay style. I’ve thought it was pretty universally held to be better than the first game.
Henry Tims didnt like the story that much but gameplaywise it's pretty good. Its as good as wolfenstein the new order IF NOT BETTER. So i dont get the ranking at all. Yeah there was some sjw stuff but who cares?? Its a videogame ffs, the story is neat and all but its all about DA GAMEPLAY. Thats the thing that matters the most, and the new Colossus gameplay is as good like the new order if not better. "Story in videogames is like story in porn. It needs to be there but if you don't care about it, you can enjoy it nonetheless/either way"
RtCW and Wolf 09 are my personal favorites. Hard to put a finger on exactly why, probably because i played them as a kid. And they have that beautiful Quake movement that feels so fluid, the later titles went and nerfed it all to oblivion to feel clunky and "realistic".
Your list is exactly like mine, RTCW is awesome even today. And I think Wolf 2k9 wasn't liked in general because it rellied excessively on the medallion gimmick. For me personally, it wasn't very fun and a little bit repetitive.
RTCW is an absolute classic, and probably one of the best single player FPS experiences ever. The levels were awesome, it had a crazy good atmosphere with the music and lighting. Gunfighting was fun. It was HARD as it should be.. Even the visuals hold up ok given how its 20 years old now! I really wish they would remake the same game with a new graphics engine. I did really enjoy 2009 though, but I agree it got too easy once you had all the power ups on tap.
The New Colossus ruined The New Order’s perfect ending, which is exactly what sequel (not prequel) games did to the meta-ending of MGS2. Feels similar to MGS4 in that way. Well, that and the fucking cutscenes.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein is N°1 no doubt
Wolfenstein The New Order beginning was impressive and scary.
The just seeing "Baltic Sea, 1946"
says to you that things hadnt come as it was supposed to be.
U right.
@Fozzy W it's the health-packs
Aleksa Petrovic BJ makes reference to Deathshead’s X-Labs in The Old Blood, so there’s a direct connection to RTCW.
There being two Agent Ones and fat Nazi women named Helga is just coincidence.
@@Gggmanlives oh snap u gotta make amends mate to raven software in writing
Almost all Wolfenstein games are a sequel/prequel to each other.
What i remembered from The New Order: "General Deathshead. Today he's teaching me a lesson. I've seen suffering and death, people maimed and tortured. Thought i'd seen it all, but i'd never seen true cruelty...until now. Count to 4, inhale. Count to 4, exhale..."
What i remembered from The New Colossus: "It was space aliens, man!!!"
I'll take TNO and TOB any day over TNC.
Literal Gramma Nazis though! Can't forget Nazis correcting clansmen on pronunciation
And after all this, we got Wolfenstein: Young Blood. Not sure how we deserved such a bag of shit.

RTCW is still my fave Wolfy game, STILL waiting for someone to make a multiplayer game similar to it. Only game to ever get the medic's role in an FPS correct IMO.
DEFEND THE OBJECTIVE!
NEIN!
I played medic almost exclusively in RTCW MP. I distinctly remember having to mash v-2-3 "I need ammo!" in PUBs. Ah good times.
Try day of infamy
Well, the devs who made the multiplayer made a game called dirty bomb. Basically the same core concept but with a very faint splash of hero shooter added to it.
Medic was overpowered in Enemy Territory; I think you're confusing "not intellectually challenging" with "getting it right";
I'd argue America's Army 2.8 did it more balanced and authentic.

My Rankings:
9: SoD Mission Packs-- Yeah, you about covered it.
Yes! Great take on the Wolfenstein games, couldn't have described them better myself.

You said it brother

@@LeGabrielMan I don't see any objective claims in OP's comment, all he's doing is disagreeing.
What, can you not disagree with opinions anymore or some shit?
The New Colossus was incredibly frustrating because I was really enjoying myself when it was being, you know, a fucking game and not a rejected Tarantino movie. Yet they pulled a fucking Metal Gear Solid 4 by padding so much of the game with cutscenes and they game ends abruptly with a boss fight that you didn't even know was the last one and then you kill the main antagonist in a god damn QTE. I was absolutely blue balled and left with such a bad taste in my mouth that I didn't touch the game after that.
Leichenschrei yeah. And with MGS4 you know you’re gonna get cutscenes. But it shouldn’t be like that in a fucking Wolfenstein game
at least MGS 4 had a good story for those cutscenes to show, The New Colossus on the otherhand had about 6 hours of padding to show.
Yeah dude the new colossus was not that good and I hate those fucking generals that always call the alarm
Then you must also hate The New Order, because it had that exact same system.
What I want most is a proper HD remake of RTCW. Instant buy.

Actually, in timeline terms it would be: RTCW>2009>Old Blood>The New Order, the reason this makes slightly more sense is because the end cutscene of The Old Blood ties almost directly into The New Order's opening cutscene.
2009 is worse than old blood, but better than the new order. New order is way too linear a lose its pace in favor of boring cutscenes
I love how you said: "Maybe Fortnite is more your cup of tea." You got em good.

All 3 of those things were shit and much more.
RtCW, Wolf 3D and SoD will always be inside my heart
I like the new colossus, but I ain't gonna judge you.
Gman: Hopefully MachineGames can get the series back on track.
2019: Be careful what you wish for...
I've played rtcw around 50+ times and i still have it on my pc.
Never get bored of it
Next game needs to start with a disclaimer saying "ok so we're basically just gonna pretend YB didn't happen."
dat Cleanprincegaming reference tho LUL
This was a great video and though I played RTCW almost 20 years ago, I re-bought it after watching this. Just subbed! Great content, thank you!
"simply because my life is dope, and i do dope shit." take my upvote
A clean prince gaming reference in a GG WOLFENSTEIN video? Can it get any better?!
i loved RtCW, i grew up with it and recently decided to reinstall it. i love how it still holds up to this day
Your list is exactly like mine, RTCW is awesome even today.
And I think Wolf 2k9 wasn't liked in general because it rellied excessively on the medallion gimmick.
For me personally, it wasn't very fun and a little bit repetitive.
I always wondered how BJ knew Caroline in The New Order. Now I know. She was in Wolfenstein (2009).
Hah me too, I was like *Aaaah so that's how*
RTCW is an absolute classic, and probably one of the best single player FPS experiences ever.
Ive only recently got Rtcw on steam and in the span of a week ive already beat it three times. Amazing game!
Wolfenstein (2009) is crazy underrated.
Yes
Shame it's almost impossible to find
What about the Wolfenstein RPG? Ever tried that one?
Dreadray what the hell is that?
@@user-ue8il6jx3b It's an old (2008) mobile/iphone turnbased rpg, where you fight nazis and demons, while trying to destroy the "paranormal division" of the nazis! It's pretty cool for what it is.
I would play it if i could get it on android
