  • I think this pretty much covers it, feel free to ask questions or to share your experience with different brands of pistol grips in the comments.
    The proper function of the fire selector is ABSOLUTELY necessary for consistent cycling of this platform. Do not disregard the proper alignment of the fire selector detent spring!
    Always plink safe and wear eye pro!

    Very easy!!! Anything I have that’s an AR platform I have a UTG grip, waayyyyyy better that that plastic grip.

    I drilled the fire selector hole for the spring to work, but the second rear spring I did not drill a hole and just kept it inside the grip with no hole. Not sure if it matters and why there’s 2 springs on the dpms

    • @RWMAirgunsmithing
      @RWMAirgunsmithing  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@user-mc3lk3me2n ya the second hole is unnecessary to drill out, the airgun will cycle fine and crosman doesn't even have it drilled out on all their grip models xD.
      It's the rear takedown pin detent spring, on a real AR it would typically be oriented to the rear and is captured by the lower receiver endplate. The lower receiver to extension connection is not exactly mil-spec on these guys.

    is the spring that’s put in that “unnecessary” hole required for the gun to function?
    very new to gun modding, and NO i totally didn’t lose the spring disassembling it

      xD lol loosing a spring is part of the journey!
      The hole for the fire selector is absolutely necessary for proper function.
      The hole in the crosman pistol grip that serves as a seat for the rear takedown pin retaining pin spring is not necessary. The 2 grips I show in the video are both legit crosman grips. I haven't bothered with that hole on 3 of my 4 grip swaps.

    Can u take off the buffer tube n replace it with a different one not made by cross man ?

    • @RWMAirgunsmithing
      @RWMAirgunsmithing  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You mean so you can put a real one on it? Not easily, the anchor point is not the same, the crosman would need a lot of tinkering. The only thing lost really is the ability to add a rear sling mount on it.

    Do you know if all the standard AR-15 safety+takedown pin springs and detents work when put into one of the crosman guns? Great channel btw, just found it and its been so helpful

      Thanks for feedback, lots more airgunsmithing to come!
      No doubt those parts will be practically quasi similar in size (standard ar pistol grips fit with the crosman parts no problem). What might differ and maybe cause malfunctions will be the spring tensions. Usually real firearm parts like the springs will be more heavy duty on real firearms.
      If you are looking for replacement parts maybe searching in airsoft shops could help. Most will sell parts individually and mil sim airsoft is practically 100% replica size.

    Even the crosman grip doesn't fit right. One part of my plan to simulate an hk416 was to get the BCM Mod 0 grip, I thought the non-beaver tail would make it a better fit, but not.

    • @RWMAirgunsmithing
      @RWMAirgunsmithing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, as I mentionned in the video, the only thing that matters is the alignment of the fire selector detent spring. If the spring is aligned then that means the grip is aligned, leaving only the "gap" to be shimmed.
      I dont understand what you mean by "even the crosman doesn't fit" seeing as it comes already fitted on the airgun.
      Edit : I'll try and get my hands on a BCM grip and see whats up.

      @@RWMAirgunsmithing BCM mod 0 does fit but there is a gap on the front of grip. When tightened up it stays where it should be but if too tight selector turns with difficulty.

    • @RWMAirgunsmithing
      @RWMAirgunsmithing  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@allensmith6430 cannot say I'm not surprised hehe. The conclusion is that the crosman lower receiver and pistol grip size are not exactly mil spec 100%.
      The holes for the springs line up but the entire path for the spring needs to be 100% straight for proper function. That's why I recommend the ergo gapper or inserting snipped zip ties between the grip and the rear of the trigger guard.

    Is it possible to switch the safety selector to the other side? And how?

    • @RWMAirgunsmithing
      @RWMAirgunsmithing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Google "aisoft ambi fire selector". You need a kit with the little screw and detachable right-side switch. You will have to disassemble the airgun (highly recommended) and drill a hole in the crosman fire selector for the ambi switch.

      @@RWMAirgunsmithing I wanted to ask, did you actually have cycling issues from changing the grip? I just bought a grip and that really scares me lol now I’m scared to change it, I got a Blackhawk Knox AR Pistol grip

    • @RWMAirgunsmithing
      @RWMAirgunsmithing  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KiLLJOY1056 tbh the tinkering was easier than I was expecting. Just gotta line up the holes for the spring. The cycling issues will only happen if things are crooked and the spring isnt working properly but I show how to avoid this in the video.
      Theres no harm in doing a dry fit just to see how it lines up. Would take just a few minutes...
      I checked some pictures online and I would only double check to make sure the spring for the rear takedown pin has somewhere to rest on the blackhawk.

    • @RWMAirgunsmithing
      @RWMAirgunsmithing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it is a real AR pistol grip I can almost guarantee you will just need to "shim" the trigger guard.
      I love the ergo grips and the magpul equally, they both feel great and require the same solution for the "gap".
      I am 99% sure I will be able to fit the DD grip.

    • @donye_mfkn_east8161
      @donye_mfkn_east8161 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RWMAirgunsmithing Yeah I'm sure you can fit the DD grip, I found a magpul trigger guard and I have been thinking about maybe fitting it to probably the DPMS SBR.
      I'm really OCD about this stuff so I need the grip(s) to fit perfect, no gap. I want to do rubberized most likely, black on the DPMS SBR and a Tan type "FDE" for the A4P so the grip color matches up with the amazon tan "fde" brace.
      That DD your working on looks impressive, that's a surprise you have been keeping top secret.

      @RWMAirgunsmithing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@donye_mfkn_east8161 Dude, I love your enthusiasm for the crosman!
      Unfortunately you will have to deal with that gap unless you want to redrill the spring holes (which I think might be too close to the original holes and just make a big gaping slot for the spring to kink in).
      I did think about spraying Plastidip into a receptacle and then letting it drip into the gap but that would require a lot of patience and trial and error plus the risk of geting plastidip inside the springs.

    • @donye_mfkn_east8161

      @@RWMAirgunsmithing Dude your way more into this than me, I forget about the Crosman's and then I see one of your videos and it gets me interested again lol.
      On that cheap grip I tried fitting, I had to redrill and the hole ended up to close to the inside grip edge (bulged the hole in one small area and went thru in another small area).
      That FDE grip you have on the MPW, didn't look like it had much gap from what I could see.
      Once I fit a grip its going to stay, add a little color matched chalking to fill in the gap and its a done deal ... LOL, just kidding, well probably just kidding

    • @RWMAirgunsmithing
      @RWMAirgunsmithing  ปีที่แล้ว

      @DoNyE_MfKn_EaSt yeah I had an AEG airsoft grip on the side but I forgot to talk about it xD airsoft grips do not fit at all because they planned the grips and buffer tube to accommodate the batteries and wires and gear boxes.
      Real AR grips are the only way to go.
