The clip of Joe laughing! 👍
Glad the tuner was able to save the rifle.
Thanks for the Shout Out Man !!
I have a budget 10 22 that I worked the trigger and put a .920 low cost Shaw 18" bbl in.and bedded the action and completely redesigned the stock. It shot unusually well with the again, budget CCI SV Target. 50 yards average of low .4's to mid. .3's, with several groups dropping into the very low .2's. Most notable was the lack of fliers with the Limbsaver. (thanks for the Hint Joe)! ;
I took one of these from a customer who,was equally frustrated. I installed a 24” heavy barrel and pillar bedded the action. He took it to an ARA match and shot a perfect match I won’t crash your channel with my information but I think it supports the concept of heavier profile barrels dampening harmonics and tightening what are well shaped groups but larger than MOA
Absolutely. You can definitely see the tuner calmed down the barrel harmonics for sure. And like I said in the video, I didn’t have much luck with the tuner on heavy barrels. When I found a setting I thought was good it wasn’t repeatable so I gave up on it. But on this barrel it has been amazing.
😮 wow! That is insane!
I still wouldn't want the rifle, those groups were horrible. If they can't get it right, why pay them for something you have to fix for them? 😮 just me and my thoughts 😊
Nice shooting, man! No matter the rifle, it still takes a skilled shooter to pull that off 😊
Thanks for sharing 👍
+1 for Joe 😮😊
A rifle that shoots like that one does with the tuner are quite rare. That averaged a .31 with rifle match, I know guys that have RimX rifles that don’t do that, so at the discounted price I can buy the rifle for is worth it to me.
Oh no I am in for the entire video. Recommendation from Cyclops
Ok now I am stopping the video Cyclops wasn't right no way LOL
Are you kidding me did you really say that out loud. CMON man telling Joe he was RIGHT. Man the rest of us have to live that.
Hard to believe isn’t it. Lol
I'm wondering if, because the barrel has a tapered contour, plus threaded, there is deflection taking place at the muzzle. After installing the tuner, it added extra mass at the muzzle, eliminating the deflection.
@@fredshebester-wg4vb that’s my guess. Hard to believe it would be that bad on a .22 but it’s a common problem on these rifles from what I’ve seen.
I use the Eaglevision tuner on my .22 LR CZ 452 , it’s an old gun and the tuner has changed the gun totally. The groups now are fantastic and I would not be without it . I talked to Joe about it also he swears by them . Me too 😀
Holy Crap is right. That was awesome.
I know. I was blown away.
Hey Don, I've shot tuners for several year now. I've been a big fan of Harrell's and have I think 4 now, all Harrells. Our procedure is to use 1 1/2" to 2" pasters and put 9 on a 8 1/2x11 paper. We shoot at 100 and to save bucks we only shoot 3 round groups. I do not know how ECs are calibrated but the Harrells will go up to 5 on the main shaft and the barrel goes uo to 20. We will shoot groups like this 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, etc. all the way until we run out of numeration. That way when we are finished we can lay the targets out side by side and easily see what the gun likes. It's not that unusual to see the tuner favor 2 sweet spots, like 1.3 and 5.2. This has worked with all our LR target rifles.
So once you have your 2 settings the rifle likes, when you turn the tuner back to that setting is it repeatable? The EC is not, at-least not on the barrels I tried it on. Maybe this one will be different since it’s a thinner profile barrel.
@@RimfireSS I have Harrell's tuner on my CZ457 and Savage TR. It made both of them 1/2moa shooters at 100 yds. They have a thread on adapter that allows you to use the heavier clamp on tuner. Their regular 1/2x28 is too light. The Harrell's on my CZ 457 made it Lot insensitive. I have 7 Lots of Rifle Match that all group 1/2 moa at 100 yds.
It goes to show, these contour barrels just like to see weight on the muzzle to reduce cross velocity. You would get the same results just using stick-on wheel weights. The minor micro adjustments on the tuner makes no difference over a large SD group size
My friend put cz factory compensator on his 457. Groups opened quite a lot, the he started to add washers, between barrell and device. After 2 washers everything came back to normal 😆
Good video on Bergara BMR and the EC Tuner. If your groups are stringing, lengthen the tuner if they are round shorten the tuner. It usually works that way. A tuner can tune out small variations in velocity but will not compensate for a bad bullet/cartridge.
JD
Thanks for the info!
Quite a dramatic improvement in groups! Good to see those results!
I was very surprised
Wow can't wait for the next video thanks love the video
Thanks Vince
If Bergara sent the rifle to you, maybe they would be willing to build one to your specs. Your other Bergara (B14) is a shooting machine. The Bergara's are also doing very well in the St. Patrick's day challenge, Eli put on. It's got me to thinking I need to buy one!!! Good video. That tuner made a big difference.
It did, but as a lot of the guys are commenting, it’s a shame to have to put a tuner on it to get it to shoot. But the B14r tuners are not required. There shooters right out of the box. Mine has been trouble free.
Always great watching your videos. 👍
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed it.
I have the bmr carbon and it shoots better than that one stock. I put a Timney hit trigger in today and looking for a tuner by next month. Thank you
Yeah, I’ve been very disappointed with this rifle.
Awesome video! 07:22 has me about ready to give Eric some money I have
Lol, pretty good huh!
Good stuff, Don. Hate to bother you about off-topic stuff, but in one of your (fairly) recent videos, you commented on some inexpensive scope rings you had gotten from Amazon that had impressed you. Now I can't find that video reference again. Would you mind--at your convenience--providing some info? Specific model you liked? I presume they were Monstrum rings? Thanks in advance.
Monstrum Pro rings. As long as you don’t drop the rifle they will hold up.
@@RimfireSS Thanks, Don. I really appreciate it. I guess I pretty much think all bets are off with any setup if we drop our rifles, but I hope your caution here doesn't come from personal experience! Thanks again.
@@HWHolmgren well I bumped on of my rifles and it fell off the wall. Bumped it pretty hard or it wouldn’t have. But the mount did break.
I’m in the same boat, bought a steel barrel BMR expecting good results and it’s shooting .6-.75 with almost every ammo I through at it.
Not real impressed with the accuracy so far, about 300 rounds in too. Figured it might get better with round count and hasn’t changed.
Maybe my expectations were too high, I’ve got the BMR paired up with an Arken Zulus for some night time fun. It’s plenty capable for a hunting rifle but I wouldn’t suggest it as a NRL or PRS gun
It’s pretty common on the BMR, that thin barrel whips to much to group for some reason. I actually think putting a threaded weight on the end of the barrel would have the same results.
Sounds like the excuse I need to buy a suppressor and see if that helps lol
@@rossarnett8079 it very well might, and with the short wait times right now, hell yeah! Do it!
@@rossarnett8079please report back if it helps.
Great video. It’s wild to see the groups move with a tuner. Only downside of it is the backlash and not being repeatable reliably. The new ec tuner with the spring is supposed to remedy that.
I’d also love to see a cz457 video on barrel torque and action torque.
I’ve got a picky mtr that I cannot get to shoot worth a crap without a ton of action torque
My CZ457 is in a MDT XRS and that stock requires about 80in lbs. and it shoots the best at that torque. Some stocks take more than others. Now a wood stock I wouldn’t take it even close to that. I think tuners work better on smaller diameter barrels that are more prone to whipping. That’s why I wasn’t having much luck on my heavy barrels. There much stiffer and less prone to whipping.
@@RimfireSS thanks for the reply. Mtr didn’t tighten up groups til 49in lbs which was scary territory for me in a wood stock with composite pillars.
@@SpoolinX yikes. Yeah that’s a lot on wood.
I shot a BMR. Very good accuracy. But better with a Tuner. Best group with SK LONG RANGE
The two lots of Long Range I have haven’t been that good. Maybe I need to play with the tuner abit.
Another very informative video, thanks for all your work. Cyclops Joe? Really?
Yeah, he’s the one that gave me the tip. Joe is actually a real cool dude. Been very helpful to me since I started the channel. And he reached out to me. He helps a lot of new guys starting out. Great guy.
Yea thats awful, send it back . I followed your build for my own on that Ultralight kidd barrel and mated it to a Centrix X ELR RECEIVER with KRG STOCK. and Calvin elite 2 stage and it is doing .3 groups consistently with SK LONG RANGE AND very happy !!!
That Ultra Light Kidd is a shooter!
There is a reason shooters purchase tuners. They don’t cure everything but they do have a place
Agreed!
My BMR has a carbon barrel on it . Was not impressive out of the box , .60 - .75 at 50 yd . Like you I liked the rifle & started to mod it . Trigger teck first then PDP chassis & the new EC tuner . The tuner made the most difference it's common to shoot .50 now. I have the same experience with tuners they don't help heavy barrels .
Bergara never intended the BMR to be a match rifle, it’s a hunting rifle! The factory stock is designed to be light for hiking around. A 3/4” group is plenty accurate enough for hunting or plinking around. If you want better accuracy, buy a match rifle. This accuracy complaint is the equivalent of buying a minivan and taking it to a racetrack and complaining it doesn’t corner well like a Ferrari. Every tool has a purpose! Thanks for the demonstrating the tuner, though.
I put a turbo on a minivan so there’s that…
Also, I have many hunting style 10/22s that outshoot this rifle before the tuner. Now with the tuner there pretty close. And they have similar profile barrels. This rifle should shoot better than it does hunting rifle or not.
@@RimfireSS Haha! 😂
@@RimfireSS Just curious, did you try different ammo from Eley or SK?
@@wisco_guy just some SK Standard and that shot good too. But I haven’t shot it much in this configuration.
Yup! Inaccurate Rifles Suck!
Suprizing !!
Amazing difference with the tuner on!!! Very good video Don!!! I just seen a good video on 22lr. on Mach Trimming!!! Ultimate Reloader Channel "What is Mach Trimming" ( 22lr. Breakthrough)
I seen that, but he never explained how to take advantage of it. It would have to be through the ammunition I would suppose. I don’t think I’m smart enough to figure all that out. Lol
I'd like to see you try an inexpensive "Limb Saver" barrel damper to see what that does, that's $150 vs $10, and you don't need a threaded barrel.
I’ve tried that Limbsaver product on several rifles, that CZ457 .22 magnum with the thin barrel profile and it did nothing. I moved it up and down the barrel with absolutely no change. I’ve used it on several other rifles too with no good results. Problem with that Limbsaver is there’s no weight to it and while it may reduce some vibration in the barrel it does nothing for whip. Putting weight on the end of a barrel is the most effective way to reduce whip. If I can find it, I’ll throw it on there and see what happens. But I’m not expecting much.
I’ve tried the Limbsaver too. A waste of time and effort
@@carltaylor5604 yes Sir!
@@RimfireSS I understand the "weight" deal and totally agree. I wonder if maybe the Limbsaver is good for the fine tuning once you really have a well tuned set-up and the heavier weight is needed when, in your case, the rifle was way off and didn't group anything well. Maybe that's a test, take a rifle the shoots well and see if the Limbsaver will fine tune it. If it doesn't work out at least it's good content for the channel. Thanks, enjoy your channel and the work you do.
I wonder if a suppressor would dampen the barrel harmonics and replicate what the tuner did for it. Throw a whisper pickle on there and lets see the groups.
You can TUNE a piano, but you can't tuna fish....
REO Speedwagon
REO Speedwagon
I got the carbon fiber version and I get .3 groups all the time. Maybe I need a tuner on it as well to get them .16 groups
That helped Joe’s out. He has the carbon barrel on his and it did shrink his groups as well.
@@RimfireSS thanks for the info. Now I’ll have to get the tuner. I really like the bmr mainly bc mag changes are so easy compared to others.
@@nelhead4807 I really like the action and the magazines, if they would put a nice target stock and heavy barrel on that rifle they would have a winner.
Hey, you may have helped mi amigo Eric Cortinas not have to go back to pouring concrete.
Lol, that’s great! Tell him I need a black one to match my barrel.
I talked to mi amigo and he says he has no freebie tuners but he has a plethora of gallons CLR he needs to get rid of.@@RimfireSS
Thanks for the video! Have you done anything with the Bergara's 10/22 clone the BXR ?
@@dennisholle1005 I haven’t, actually I was hoping they would send that rifle instead of this one. But this is what I received. Darn it
Hey Don, I’ve got the BMR in 22mag and have an ec tuner on it since bought it. Never shot it without the tuner so I don’t know how it shoots would it. With it, it’s fabulous. My tuner is set at 0 as well.
Wish I would have done this along time ago! So much better!
Big time difference. Night and day.
Big Time!!
Would like to see the groups after you adjust the turner
I’m going to do another video on it. I’m going to try a plain old muzzle brake on it as well. I have a couple AR Brakes that are kinda heavy. Curious to see if that makes a difference too.
Need to try the B14R that is thier 22 lr. target rifle. Has everything you asked for.
I have one. Used it in my last video. I was taking about something cheaper than the B14r in the BMR line. Like maybe a 800 rifle that has a better heavier barrel and a better stock.
@@RimfireSS Sorry must have missed that video.
Could you try a muzzle brake to see if it changes anything?
I will do that in the next video when I play with the tuner settings. I was thinking the same thing. I’ll see if I have a heavy brake and try that out.
Only accurate rifles are interesting - Colonel Townsen Whelen.
#IMPRESSIVE
I’m all about buying the cheaper gun and buying a $200 tuner beats spending $2k and getting same results
I hear ya!
Nice to see something that's suppose to shoot good do just that. To bad it takes extra money to make it right.
Do all tuners work the same?
For the most part, they do, but i think this is more from putting weight on the end of the barrel. It slows down the vibrations or harmonics and keeps the muzzle from whipping, which keeps the muzzle calm when the bullet exits the barrel. So it's more likely to be in the exact same position when the bullet exits. It's kind of a crude explanation, but I think you get the gist of it.
@@RimfireSSthis sounds like a great collaboration topic with “High Speed Ballistics.” You already know the tuner fixed it. The high speed camera can show us why it worked. Gaining subscribers would be a nice plus too.
@@charlesmckinley29 good idea
Imo you shouldn't have to put a tuner on any rifle to make it shoot good either it will shoot or it won't.i won't own a rifle that isn't accurate what's the point too.
I hear you, and definitely get your point.
When you say half inch groups - is that at 50
yards, or is this really 1.1” at 100 yards?
Half at 50. And that doesn’t Necessarily transmit to 1.1” at 100 yards. Could be better, could be worse. Depends on the ammunition.
....lol......should have bought a lottery ticket that day fer sure !!!!
I did… drawing is tonight! 1.4 Billion!!
But when you install the tuner next time will it be in the exact position as last time? Just a little tighter maybe a little looser and you're going to have a different result
We’ll, I’ve taken it off and put a muzzle brake of the same weight on it. And guess what, it shot the same. That was a 450 bushmaster brake with a conversion adapter. As I suspected, the weight on the muzzle keeps the barrel from whipping and calms down the harmonics. Not so much the position. Now the position does have alittle to do with it, but these thinner profile barrels just need the weight.
Put that tuner on your scales. I’m curious as to the weight, Thanks
Yeah, I think a threaded weight would have the same results. When I get time I’ll weight it.
@@RimfireSS thanks. I’ll be watching for it
I have an EC Tuner sitting in the drawer...
That’s where mine was. My heavy barrels didn’t benefit much if at all with it. But, just putting that weight on the end of the barrel really calmed the whip of that light weight barrel and well you can see the results.
@@RimfireSS well, thanks for the video! I'll try the tuner on my CZ 457 Jaguar!
@@farleyjj1 how does it shoot now?
@@farleyjj1Please let us know your results!
My bmr shoots about the same. So if I spend another $250 it will shoot better? Should have bought another CZ457 and saved some money
Idk man, I would hope a tuner would do the same for your rifle.
Try a heavy brake like mentioned above that worked the same as the tuner.
I think that's the best results I've seen with the EC tuner. Now I'm wondering if I should try it before purchasing a $250.00 barrel to fix my accuracy woes with the 597?
Does it have a thin profile barrel?
@RimfireSS well, it's not a bull barrel but not a skinny barrel. OD 5/8"
@@chrislang5659 worth a try, could have the same issue as this barrel. Lots of whip!
@RimfireSS thank you sir! After a Volquartsen hammer install, I shot a 5/8" group at 50 today so I'm excited, works starting to pay off! I'll try to contact Eric. Email?
@@chrislang5659 rimfiress457@gmail.com
Would you have to tune a tuner to each different kinds of rounds or set it once and it should be fine with different rounds.
Actually maybe someone with more tuner experience could answer that question. I haven’t had this kind of luck with tuners on heavy barrels. This is the first time I’ve had this kind of success and it’s a thinner profile barrel. The bull barrels have less flex and do not benefit as much as the smaller profile barrels.
Do tuners require a threaded barrel.
Yes, or custom gunsmith threading.
#JustNotFun!!!!
Is that 50yards or 25 yards
50
Can you get a good cheek weld with the pro varmit stock? I’ve never used the Boyd’s stock
They have a option where you can get a adjustable cheek riser.
@@RimfireSS oh wow I had no idea. Thanks so much for letting me know 👍🏽
Try torquing the action screws to 55 inch pounds. See if it makes a difference.
I will, thanks
Try the tuner at 100m
I will.
Bergara (or any other manufacturer) don’t send us guns on a try/buy, we’ve had to accurise all our guns over the years. Load development for centre fires and barrel tuning for rimfires is normal.
It wasn’t a try/buy. They sent it for a review. If I like it I can buy it at a discount. Out of the 15 rimfire rifles I have this was the very first that benefited from a tuner. But it was the first one I have that wouldn’t shoot also.
I don't want to be *that* guy, but a Begara BMR runs, what...$500-600? An EC tuner is about $150? That's a considerable add to a price just to get it to shoot acceptably.
That said, I'm glad it's shooting better for you.
Your absolutely right, but my cost on that rifle is considerably lower than retail. I can’t say how much but it’s worth doing.
@@RimfireSS That's cool Don. Look, honestly even if you were paying retail, I'm not a fan of telling a man how to spend his money, ha ha. As long as you're happy with the end result!
