    A response to an angry viewer:
    I’m not sure I follow your rant - it might make sense if SWC was the ONLY Revan source material, but it’s not - I have a Star Wars: Revan playlist into which I’ve dumped about 75 episodes that deal directly with Revan, and another 30 or so where he’s ancillary. My point - Revan’s a complex character, and no single episode is going to capture all that nuance.
    If you’re looking for a Revan outline or biography, go to the fandom websites - they’re excellent. But if you’re looking for episodes that deal with Revan’s personality, his take on the Force, and content creator’s reactions from dozens of different perspectives, then go collect all these episodes and dig in. More importantly, be prepared to read hundreds of viewer’s comments, because it’s THOSE that define Revan. How we, the fans, choose to interpret the character is what makes a character great; in the character analysis for Revan, it’s our comments that have made Revan a favorite.
    Now, to SWC’s episode, if you view it as one of dozens of perspectives, you’ll appreciate his presentation of Darth Revan - which is difficult, as there’s simply not much material ‘out there’s that deals specifically about this. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to write - indeed, just the opposite. By using artistic license and tackling the subject from different, sometimes nebulous, angles, we are given rational perspectives on what a Darth Revan might think and how he might behave. And by noting how he actually thinks and behaves, differently than what we expect, we can begin to appreciate his character’s complexity.
    Viewing SWC’s episode in this way, maybe you can appreciate the effort he’s made. Look, as I’ve indicated, there is a LOT of Revan material out there - some of it’s good, some not so good, some average, and some, like SWC’s episode, is excellent.
    The general episodes can be helpful, but in the end don’t foster a lot of thought and conversation - one in particular, literally, word for word, created an episode by reading directly from the fandom website…interesting, if you’ve not read the fandom sketch, but not really helpful in teasing out a Revan character analysis.
    But SWC took a different approach, choosing a specific aspect (Darth Revan) of Revan’s biography, and expanding on it. This is not simple; it’s not a serial, step-by-step description. It’s an all-encompassing analysis that sometimes requires a lot of background to draw a fairly simple conclusion.
    For example, we all know Revan wants to be gray, and that he goes on this journey that everyone on the Light Side says is impossible, and all on the Dark Side despise. But in order to understand what makes Revan unique, to tease out what’s within his Holocron, and what sets him above (at least to me) other Force users, SWC has to - HAS TO - go into detail about the Light and Dark staus quo. Only then does Revan’s uniqueness become obvious. This isn’t easy, and if you’re not appreciative of the literary technique, maybe it comes off as a bit scattered. And you’re probably correct when you mentioned needing to know a few things prior to watching this video. But, fairly or unfairly, most of us already do, and we’re not wanting to view simply another character synopsis - we want something deeper than that.
    At any rate, I think SWC has done an excellent job at focusing on a sliver of Revan (granted, a large sliver) and expanded on it, exploring it thoroughly from multiple directions. This is what SWC’s audience wants; just read the comments and conversations for proof. The better ones are as complex as the episode!
    If this deeper analysis isn’t what you like, SWC is probably correct - his isn’t the channel for you. But I’d wager it will be, especially if you get sucked in to the Revan character. I’m not saying you’ll get bored with other channels, because every perspective helps paint a character. But eventually you’re going to want more depth; then you’ll be back.

      I don’t think I’ve seen anyone produce this amount thought from a singular video of mine. Incredible. You have a unique mine friend and you should nurture that, not everyone is so gifted to see things the way you outlined.

      Well! You just made my little day.
      You’ve no idea what an outlet your channel and others have been. Journaling has become very important for me, and when it’s regarding a subject I care deeply about, putting my thoughts to paper gives me the opportunity to learn about myself. In fact, I’ve been copying these thoughts into a OneNote notebook for some future use - whatever that may (or may not) be. While the OTR is a large component, the subjects I journal range from the Alien franchise, politics, The Constitution, Democracy, Capitalism, personal relationships, Faith, Religion, and Catholicism, mental health…you get the idea.
      I figure we all have these thoughts and ideas rattling around in our minds. What I have found is that people like yourself can write, narrate, and create content that triggers me in such a way I can coalesce some of these thoughts to writing. And after I do it enough, I begin to notice consistencies within the ‘randomness’ of journaling, which I’m supposing is the actual me. Taken alone, each article might not reveal much, but over the course of hundreds, a context emerges. See? Here I go again. :)
      This is why I think what you’re doing is so important. The Star Wars storyline is part of our cultural heritage now, not unlike Shakespeare; it’s important to write about because the story has so much to offer us, about us. I’m not an original thinker nor artistic, as people like you are. And that’s OK, because I still have a lot to write about. I just need people like you to spark an idea, and out it comes - words about me and maybe even words about us. I appreciate what you do, because your work transcends into the stories of us.
      Thank you for your kind words.

      I've been reflecting on the Jedi code for decades and I've come to believe their teachings concerning passion is flawed. Individuals must have controlled passion. That is passion, without hate, malice or anger. It must be passion for a purpose. To fuel one's talents, whatever they maybe, so as to aid either a person, people or a society. Without passion to fuel, one eventually stagnates and peters out until they are but a shell of what they were. Then the true danger arises for in that shell, bitterness, loathing and the dark side can gain momentum until the promising individual who lacked passion is consumed. So passion must be cultivated but also the young must be given the tools to control that passion so it fuels but does not consume.

    I was led to believe Revan chose the dark side vs falling to the dark side like Malak did. It was explained as Revan seeing Lord Viciate and deciding the galaxy had no chance of surviving if Viciate returned to the galaxy with his version of the sith. So Revan, fully aware and cognitive, decided to embrace the dark side so that Revan could mold the sith into a less evil version of what Viciate had planned. More or less he turned to the dark side so that he could save the galaxy from destruction at the hands of Viciate.
    It would also make sense since Revan limited his use of the Star Forge so he wouldn't become corrupt from using it. I believe that is one of the things Malak disagreed with Revan on was use of the Star Forge as Malak used it much more often then Revan did. (I'll link the video I watched on it if i find it)

      Nah in the revan book Revan explains that he and Malak were both completely dominated by the Emperor it wasn't until he and Malak were out of the empire's territory that Revan managed to break the hold that the emperor had on them and he used the force to alter their memories to erase any knowledge of what happened while allowing himself to recall a much more dangerous threat that the republic would have no hope against

      I think that Revan had the innate ability to resist the corruption of the dark side, and thought that any jedi could do the same. Only after Malak glassed Telos he realized tye true dangers of the dark side.

    I believe I heard somewhere Revan attacked Malak and chopped off his lower jaw after Malak decided to decimate Telos' surface without Revan's knowledge or direct command. Revan was so furious because of the unnecessary destruction act by his apprentice that he almost killed him. It was one of the moments that point to Revan's indecisiveness about his own allegiance to the dark side, where he saw how terrible person Malak became while being consumed by the dark side. That attack on Telos is the same one in which Carth Onasi' wife died and lost track of his son Dustil.
    As I said, it's just a story I heard somewhere a long time ago but am still being reminded of it while watching your video.

    As much as some may claim SWTOR and the novel ruined Revan, I disagree, I think it undeniably ruined his counterpart protagonist of the second KoTOR, Meetra Surik. It is so disappointing what they did to her character, after having such an in-depth story and background filled with so much emotion and tragedy, only to be reduced to a Revan fangirl and being stabbed in the back by an ally, as if the General of the Mandalorian Wars isn't fucking alert enough to know when something is amiss and would never expect betrayal from a SITH PUREBLOOD, bruh get the fuck out of here with that bullshit.

      Are you joking? They made it clear in the book that there was no way Meetra would have been able to sense that change because it wasn't something that Scourge had plotted or anything the man had a force vision that showed a jedi knight (the one in SWTOR) defeating the sith emperor so Scourge made a split second decision based on Revan's own comments

      Hmm, yeah, I have to agree - at least regarding Meetra Surik.
      Every time I read about her decision to carry out Revan’s orders with a nod, it makes me lose respect for the Council for turning the lass into the Jedi Exile.
      And every time I think of her Force self staying with Revin, out of loyalty, instead of joining with the supposed Light Side makes me lose respect for the Light Side practitioners - or perhaps faulting them for their flawed interpretation of The Force.
      She gets a bad rap, but at least she has our respect. It’s too bad Revan’s reforms didn’t stick since we seem to have goody2shoes Skywalker now, at the modern present. I’m hopeful that Surik and Revan will someday live on to bring the Force into a gray reality.
      I personally can’t stand Skywalker, but the best thing I heard him admit was that the Jedi Order (and their Force interpretation) has done nothing but bring chaos into the galaxy.

      Idk if I’d call Darth Revan the Chosen One, as Anakin was the Chosen One because he would bring balance to the Force.
      Whatever the balance is (George explained it but idk if it really fit’s with how it’s interpeted in the E.U).
      I believe George said that the balance is removing the Sith and the Dark Side because it corrupt’s (misspelling) and Anakin destroyed it.

      @@75JUNAKI I think it's fair to say that most people see Revan as the "Chosen one" of the Old Republic era :p The last thing Revan said before he bacame one with the force, was this. "The Force Seeks Balance, Always." Whether or not Revan brought balance is up for debate, but he sure as hell helped it happen, more than anyone else.

      @@AbsurdFalcon Bleh. Given the fact that his 'balance' utterly and completely failed, if he's a chosen one, he's just as much a failure as Revan in bringing balance to the force. Luke has a better claim to the title than Anakin, and even then, he'd still be a failed messiah in both continuities, EU and Disney. Anakin's only real 'claims' come from a few cartoons and comics that only a small niche of people actually watched, and they have very little, if any, impact on the actual plot of the movies (aka the main story). If you hold main story of Revan side by side with the main story of Anakin, the biggest difference in terms of how special they are is that one character was declared a prophesized messiah because of a damn blood anomaly and the other wasn't.
      Like seriously. Take away the story with the Mortis Gods and it just becomes a bunch of old Jedi harping on about nonsense that's never proven true in any way beyond he threw an evil old wizard into a hole because he couldn't stand the sight of his son being tortured. Oooh, big woop, you killed a big bad sith lord, it isn't like they'll just come back again in a century or less like they always do because the Force is either actively malevolent, astoundingly stupid, or isn't intelligent at all and the idea that the Force has some sort of guiding intelligence is literally just the characters in-setting anthromorphising it.
      Viewed objectively, the whole 'chosen one bringing balance to the force' idea was some of the worst things we ever got from the prequels, and them being confirmed by the Mortis story arc is so wrong headed and dumb in terms of the overall quality of the narrative that the more I think about it the more it makes me dislike the prequels. Like, if it had been a genuine false prophecy, it could have been a cool plot point, but come on.

I can feel the amount of love, passion, and hard work that went into this video in order to create it. You did an amazing job Sam. I hope you feel proud of yourself 👍😎💯.
    As a side note, I have a recommendation for your next explained video. Kreia/Darth Traya is one of the most unique and complex characters in all of Star Wars. As you well know, she has mastered both sides of the Force, trained the most powerful individuals of her era, and has a philosophy and outlook on the Force that’s far different from anyone who lived before or after her. I think an explained video on Kreia would be amazing and worthwhile.

    The star forge and the foundry are 2 separate things. The foundry makes a droid army. The Star Forge is a ship yard, any droids it makes are for defence. There is an optional quest on Nar Shada in Star Wars The Old Republic where it is hinted at a third device that can make planets or star systems and maybe even hole galaxies and the player can collect a piece of it and it is said it would take thousands of years to make functional again.

    • @SWCentral

This video, specifically focuses on Revan and his life.
      If we ever make a "Star Forge" explained, then i'll certainly dive into details and explain best I can. Other than that, I hope you enjoyed the video! I'm halfway through and loving it so far. Some questions. Why didn't Revan and Malak not signal the council before going after the sith? Also if both forgot about the emperor why stay on the dark side and not rejoin the light?

    • @SWCentral
      @SWCentral  2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Well they went on the search for the Sith right after beating Mandalore and winning the war. So while some people such as Meetra returned to the council, Revan and Malak alone went in search of the dark side influence.
      Well, the reason they didn't simply "break free" was because the Emperor turned them and corrupted them, as he did with many Jedi including some masters. Revan and Malak however, were able to twist the emperors instructions and make it seem like they were their own choices. It's a wierd and complex point in the story as it's meant to cover a plot hole I guess. Because you would otherwise be right in thinking they should have returned to being light sided jedi. But it wasn't that simple at least not for Revan. He used and mastered the dark to only save the galaxy.

      Defo agree. I guess the plot was needed more than the council xD - there are quite a few things that need clarifying on Revan, he's been in so many different pieces of content that connecting the dots is sometimes left to imagination. SWTOR does a good job of continuing Revans story, but it kinda ruins the lore of the book imo or at least some of it. I believe what make’s the character good is that the decision’s Darth Revan made were alway’s Darth Revan’s own.
    Darth Revan’s mind was twist by the Sith Emperor (Vitiate), his influence of Darth Revan’s faded (I think) and Darth Revan remembered there being a threat in the Unknown Region’s and went on to destroy and rebuild the Republic.
    He kept the infastructure (misspelling) intact.
    During the Mandalorian Wars, from what I hear, Darth Revan was more concern of victory of war and wasn’t concern of morality.
    It seem’s Darth Revan was alway’s true to Darth Revan, self belief of what is right.

    Revan should had conducted the same ritual vitiate performed on a planet with a force nexus and become even more powerful than he was as revan reborn, but he was very underpowered against vitiate

    • @ronjon7942
      @ronjon7942 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ya, except that would go against his character. I don’t think he’d waste a planet and its population for the sake of his own power, regardless of whether or not he could justify it for the greater good.
      However, it would have made a good story if he could have manipulated the Mass Shadow Generator and the destruction of Malakor V to add to his power…rather than spawning Dark Nihlous instead.

    hold up : Malak was his sith name, when he was a jedi he was called Alek, as his actual name was difficult to pronounce , Squinquargesimus...and Kreia is not her actual name, it's Arren Kae, who then became Darth Traya, who then introduced her self as "Kreia" to Meetra Suric(The Exile)...

    • @SWCentral
      @SWCentral  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely right about Malak being his Sith name! I would have done well to remind myself of that before committing but I don't find the info to be totally relevant as we still know who we are talking about. Getting lost in the lore is sooooo easy, especially when typing up a script for many hours and repeating so many names, hehe.
      None the less, appreciate your awesome comment!

    Love the vid, but a few slight corrections. Malek was just Alek when he and Revan met. ❤️
    When Maleks jaw was cut off by Revan, he was already established as the apprentice. They disagrees over the star forge and Malek challenged him to lead and lost.
    Revan was never meant to reconnect to the force.
    The Foundry was not the Star Forge. It was a different Rakatan facility. The star forge was destroyed and became rings around Rakata Prime.

    • @SWCentral
      @SWCentral  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yo! - Appreciate those points :) All are "true" - However, I strictly used material from the Revan novel / Star Wars: The old Republic (Of course KOTOR's as well). We used some small "filler" to close up some points that we knew wouldnt' leave anyone confused.
      Good shout on Malak's name :) we could have used Alek for sure!
      I really didn't want to *speculate* too much with the lore that didn't exist inside the material 99% know.
      We do intend on making more future videos that much shorter in length, with more facts about characters!
      For example, we could have spoke on Revan's mask, where it went after Scourge ripped it off in the throne room.
      Star Forge / Foundry - Video on that one in full length will be coming :)
      "When Maleks jaw was cut off by Revan, he was already established as the apprentice. They disagrees over the star forge and Malek challenged him to lead and lost." - I searched long and hard for how this happened, where did you see this? Was it a lore entry somewhere? How did miss this?! Tell me! xD

    I hate that they gave Revan a canon sex/gender. Things were perfectly understandable even when being ambiguous/vague/gender-neutral. However, I love Revan's history/story. I agree with Revan and Malak's reasoning for going to war against the mandalorians. In essence the reasoning was "Kill millions of Mandalorian crusaders, save trillions of innocent lives." While the essence of the Jedi reasoning for refusing to join was "If we can find the greater hidden threat pulling the strings and stop it, all the lives in the entire galaxy are sacrifices that we are willing to make" which is also why I hate what the Jedi Council did to Meetra Surik. She went to war alongside Revan to save many more lives than would be taken. Which is why, in the second KOTOR game, I made a Dark Side character first. I also made a canon character (I gave her the canon name as well), which was Light Side. I never played the first one, until I found it on Mobile. I wanted to make a canon character first, but I have not found anything concrete other than it saying how Revan was unparalleled in combat and very strong with the force. So I am guessing the "canon" classes are Soldier into Jedi Consular. Which brings me to your video. I'm hoping your full history will be enough.
