- This was a once in a lifetime thing. A mountain pass more or less all to myself. Usually there's so much traffic up there that quick-ish riding can't be done in a safe way. But thanks to major road works and the impact of the Corona crisis I actually had the chance to unleash the BMW S 1000 XR a bit ;)

Since some of you don't believe me when I say that my riding got quite a bit slower compared to my old self:
Here's me doing the same road in 2016. Pegscraping through blind corners. I don't think I need to say more...

OK, I thought I remembered the open place on the right in front of the "shack" right before the top: from the F800R videos. Well, I was not completely mistaken, you did this R1200R "wideo" there apparently. Anyways, I calculated the total ride up for both R1200R and S1000XR:
R1200R 08:19 -> 14:57 = 6:38
S1000XR 00:23 -> 07:16 = 6:53
Not that different some might say, but you have to account for the major traffic in 2016 video with R1200R.

Mir gefällt die Evolution von 2016 bis jetzt sehr gut, auch wenn die mit Schmerzen erkauft wurde. Du fährst vielleicht ein bißchen langsamer, aber um Welten souveräner und sicherer. Deine Videos sind immer super cool zum Anschauen, Sound perfekt! Mir gefällt auch, dass Du Rücksicht nimmst auf Anrainer, Radfahrer... Top!
Less turbo but more Schaaf! Nice lines between the bends, nice throttle and brakes control! I appreciate more the new riding style!

@Cuban Rider ..I love watching your videos. When you’re riding the Dragon’s Tail, the way you work the quick shifter up and down the gears keeping that 1000xr in the high rpms, it screams like a mf from Tn to N.C..Sounds so good. And with that sound and the smoothness and rhythm you ride those curves, it is nothing but a motorcycle ballet...that is one of those loud and fast ballets. :)
Yours are fire too man, both of us keep up doing that, drive safe, drive efficiently 😉🌟👍

Well, yes and no. There is a better review. But it is in german, so you won't understand.
When I'm looking for a new bike, I make sure it's something you haven't posted a video of yet. That way, I can pretend the bike I bought isn't capable of being ridden like that.

Even at this relaxed pace, it's still much more interesting to watch than the sort of bike review-riders we get here in the UK (sorry, I can't be PC about it - our reviewers simply suck, as they mostly just weaselled their way into a TH-cam following). Your shifting and cornering is highly skilled, and it's obvious you're not even riding at 30% of your capacity. Fantastic camerawork.

At least this part of the Jaufenpass is the one with acceptable (cause plenty of it newly made) road condition. The other one which would have come after u-turning... is painful as hell.

Great drive on a beautiful road. Despite knowing there is very little chance of oncoming traffic you drive within your limits and keep your lane. Good self restraint.

A couple of years back i was going up Giovo and saw a lot of moped, and a lot of guy riding said moped were dressed 'funny' di a little check... and voilá Otzaler moped maraton! Soo cool!

I've ridden the S1000XR on the Jaufenpass as well with very less traffic some weeks ago. Unfortunatly this bike was so much fun that I had a cramp in my right hand ;)

Hey, great riding as always! Where is this road? Could you give us a road number?
This is probably a dumb question. I ride a Harley street bob and I can down shift with blipping pretty smooth to a degree but if I dropped that many gears that’s quick my rear would lock. Is this purely because your bike is racing tuned?
No it's because it has a slipper clutch and on top of that automatic engine brake control installed

There are no photos or videos from the really fast riding Schaaf - because in the past he was sometimes faster then light :-)

Yes, the old one feels a bit more powerful. But I don't know if that's actually the case. It FEELS more powerful but I don't know if the numbers actually prove this

Nice riding ,very quick with good safe lines through the corners. XR1000 is one of my favourite bikes to ride, good bit slower than you however. Your british vlogger friends all seem to rate you as a fast rider, I can see why. A question, who's faster you or two wheels and a pony tail ? 👍
