    Corrections/updates to video:
    1) The prices of all bikes have changed:
    Rockhopper Sport: $550
    Rockhopper Sport: $650
    Rockhopper Comp: $800
    Rockhopper Elite: $1,000
    Rockhopper Expert: $1,200
    2) The Rockhopper Sport actually uses an SR Suntour XCM 29 coil suspension fork, which has 30mm stanchions instead of 28mm. This is similar to the fork in the comp model, but without the lockout and multi circuit dampening.
    3) The Rockhopper Comp actually uses a different drivetrain in the United States than it does internationally. The microSHIFT drivetrain is for US models, while the other models use a mix of Shimano acera/alivio/altus components.

      Specialized bikes are built for ignorant noobs with more dollars than sense. Compare any manufacturers of bikes. Specialized bikes are for those with little to zero integrity which seek approval over righteousness. Beware folks! Real bikers do not buy Specialized. Only posers will be happy with a Specialized bike purchase. Overpriced and under spec. That’s the way of Specialized✌️🙏🔑

    Perfect! Thank you! You could explain it in more detail than the bike store I spoke to :)
    I’m looking to switch from my 1995 RockHopper (upgraded as much as possible) to a brand new one and this was the most helpful thing I’ve found about the lineup.
    Though I think since they use the same frame, one could start out with lets say a Sport and later upgrade it bit by bit to even higher specs than the expert…
    You know, if the entry fee is too much, and you want to spend over time

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!! Appreciate you for watching :) and I completely agree that you could buy an entry level model for the frame, and then upgrade. Though depending on how much you’re willing to spend it may be better to upgrade to a different model like the specialized fuse

    • @iGregM
      @iGregM 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TalalipopMTB to be fair, although I’ve had bikes since I was a kid, I just recently started going on proper trails etc. and although more experienced riders say my technique is good and all that. at age 37 I still consider myself as a beginner MTB rider. So I think I’m gonna be good with the ‘hopper. The old one I have had been upgraded to Shimano STX RC set 3x8 setup and V brakes. To begin with I’d probably go for a comp and later upgrade it bit by bit to a higher level shimano set, rock shox etc.
      It would probably cost more in the long run, but I don’t have to spend a large sum all at once 🤷🏻‍♂️ We’ll see… I’m still getting used to the idea to give up the vintage ‘hopper…

    • @iGregM
      @iGregM 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TalalipopMTB In Hungary what we have available is the full RockHopper lineup, the Chisel and Chisel Comp, Epic Hardtail and Epic Hardtail Comp and Fuse Expert…
      The RockHopper Elite is $1226
      Chisel $2119 the Chisel Comp $2482
      Epic HT $2594 the Epic HT Comp $3324
      And the Fuse Expert is $3632
      We have a few other from their MTB lineup as well as the other disciplines.
      For me the RockHopper Elite will be the go to bike, for what I do it will be a long time partner. I was talking to a friend of mine who has about 20 years mtb racing experience and rides Specialized for a long time now. He said to me, that for what I use it for, is enough.
      I explained my theory to him, saying maybe I’d get the base model, and upgrade it to Deore SLX or XT and the Rock Shox Judy. He said just go for the Elite or the Expert with the factory setup and it will probably be a lifelong partner for my use :)
      Nevertheless I’ll still keep my ‘95 one for fun and vintage mtb gatherings :) And the ‘93 RockHopper Comp too 😁
      But then again, your video helped a great deal deciding! So thanks again!

I personally prefer the 2021 Marlin 7 with that great marigold to radioactive red two tone colors which I got it delivered to me 2 days ago (check my video upload). I recently purchased a Rockhopper Elite 29 XL. After riding it the first day I replaced the 30T front ring with a 34 T ring because I didn't like spinning out while going down mild hills. This required a new crankset and bottom bracket. It cost about $150 after the credit the dealer gave me for the "old" parts which he will reuse. This may not be a problem for riders who use their bikes exclusively for trail riding but I use mine most often on tamer trails and bike paths. Also after about 250 miles I have found that I have never used the 2 largest rings in the back; before I changed to the 34T in the front I had no need for the 3 largest rings in the back (the largest ring is a 50 or 51T; a 42T would have been more than enough for me I think which I think may be the official spec). The other major modification I made was to install a 3" riser for the stem/handlebars for a more comfortable ride. I previously rode a hybrid with 42mm wide tires. The new bike hasn't really lowered my average speed much though, going from about 13 or 14 mph to about 12 or 13 mph. If I were doing the modification again I would probably get a 36T ring in the front, although if my largest rear ring was only 42T I would probably stick with the 34T in front. And thanks for the videos, they are very helpful.

    Really wish you posted this before i bought my Rockhopper Sport just so i could have clear definition of what these parts do compared to the other models. Here in Ontario Canada the pirce is MUCH higher then you have stated however still same price gaps between models. I enjoy my Rockhopper Sport as i am just beginning...again, however there are features on the Comp that i would of preferred and debated paying the extra $$$ for a long while. Like this Video

    Small correction about the drivetrain: Rockhopper 27.5 Comp in 2x version uses Acera hardware. I have one so that's first hand info. Apart from that - very useful vid, great to watch!

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the 2021 model? I know the 2020 rockhopper comp used acera hardware but I think they changed it all to micro shift in 2021, but that’s interesting if they didn’t!

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually I checked just now. I didn’t realize this before but the same bike in the US has different specifications. The US bike is listed to have microshift parts while the international version has altus/acera shimano parts. Which country did you buy it in?

    • @kungfupro
      @kungfupro 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TalalipopMTB Yes, 2021 model, bought in Europe, Poland.
      Edit: You're right, I checked it as well - it seems like there are 2 versions of hardware for this model, or even more. For example the catalog says my model should have Acera shift levers and Alivio rear derailleur, while my bike has only Acera there.

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @hugosandoval9418
      @hugosandoval9418 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I can tell, Marlin has the fork lockout and 29mm stanchions as opposed to the rockhopper sport which has no lockout and 28mm.
      I have the marlin 6 and I picked it over the specialized because it looks better imo.

    There is stock for a Rockhopper Comp at my local store. I only had a question.
    I wanted to buy a Trek Dual Sport but there is a delay of many months to get it, so I was considering to buy the Rockhopper Comp instead. However, my ideal bike is the hybrid type because I want to use it mostly (80%) on paved roads and maybe 20% on light trails. Would you recommend me to buy the Rockhopper Comp?
    They also offered me to change the tyres to a one similar to a hybrid bike.`

      I bought both base 27.5 and 29er Rockhopper size M to test the size out. I had previously also owned a Diamondback 29er size small and that fit me well. As much as I wanted to like Rockhopper 29 size M, it just felt not as easy to turn and to accelerate like the 27.5. So I sold the 29er and now enjoying 27.5. I am 5’6”.
