    Corrections/Updates to video:
    1) The Marlin 4 uses a freewheel, not a cassette. Cassettes are typically more expensive and faster.
    2) All Marlin bikes (male/female) actually come with a curved top tube in sizes xs and s.
    3) The Marlin 6 actually also has the ability to downshift up to 3 gears at a time with its M315 shifters. The Marlin 5 does not have this capability, since it actually uses M310 shifters which can only downshift up to 2 gears at a time.
    4) The Marlin 7 in both years uses presta valve inner tubes while all the other bikes use schrader valves.
    5) The weight of the 2021 Marlin 7 is 13.77 kg or 30.35 lbs.
    6) The prices of all the 2021 bikes have slightly changed:
    Marlin 5: $570
    Marlin 6: $670
    Marlin 7: $850

      @@clivestanton9186 1. Make sure everything on your bike is tightened properly before your first ride.
      2. I have a 2017 Marlin 4. I do ride XC trails with it, but it cannot, nor was intended to be, pushed as hard as a Roscoe or X-Caliber.
      3. It's not going to have a dropper and an XTR groupset for the price and is intended to be basic.

    What 83 people 'disliked' this video. It is VERY well made at explaining technical differences.
    For example: I was thinking of getting a Marlin 4 but now know I might as well get a Marlin 5 due to the hydraulic braking which mayb be better for all weather and require less maintenance BUT NOT to get a Marlin 6 nor 7 because it has less gears suited to leisurely travel and instead more so for trail courses albeit with a higher number of gears you can cycle through at a time for jumping to the desired speeds on sudden changes.
    Thank you very much for this detailed video. I actually didn't quite realize the entire Marlin lineup was meant as entry level mountain bikes as a whole neither.

      @@danielchmiel4143 sort of, but the Marlin 7 is a good budget XC bike in my opinion- less costly that the X-Calibur, but it still has race worthy parts. For the parts/cost I would buy a Marlin 7, or just upgrade to a Superfly for XC racing.

    Been loving my Marlin 5 and agree that this bike can be used for a lotnm of trail riding dependinf on the level of trail you're riding. With that being said, I've definitely had issues with the Tourney derailers and would recomend buying nothing less than the Marlin 6 otherwise you'll be spending money later that could have gone into the bike at the of purchase.

    • @astro6125

      @@abolt18 I'm not sure but I can tell you something about the 2020 and 2021 markin 7 bikes( bc i own a 2020). Rims are thin, so you can't go higher than a 2.2 because the rims are so thin. 69.5 degree headtube angle is very steep, which is meant for xc riding, not trail riding. 65 degrees is trail riding. I replaced both tires so far, but I have put an 1.5k miles into the thing since October of 2019. oh yeah, straight tube for the fork. It isn't tapered. You want something thats tapered. With both marlins, there isn't a lot of room to upgrade. I've upgraded the saddle, pedals, and tires, but that's all I can say. I hope you find this somewhat helpful mate, and Goodluck with your biking

    • @astro6125
      @astro6125 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @eBikerHowie
      @eBikerHowie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@abolt18 thanks for asking. To be honest, I wouldn't buy any Marlin bike. They are too "entry" level. You'll just end up throwing tons of money at it to keep riding.
      Best bang for the buck, for a hard tail, would be the 2021 Trek Roscoe 6; and for a full suspension, I'd go with a 2021 Trek Fuel EX 5.
      Those are just examples of great value but they'll give you a refence point for other bikes.
      The main features you want are: 1x11 or 1x12 drivetrains, tapered headset, 140mm or more fork, Tubeless Ready tires and wheels, and a dropper seatpost.
      Carbon or aluminum. Doesn't matter. You'll get better components with an aluminum bike, typically.
      Happy riding.

    Late to the conversation here as I just discovered this video. Your videos are outstanding! Just the right amount of detail and a focus on details that matter most to a rider. Based on this video, I just picked up a Marlin 6. Truth be know, the availability of the red color vs the 5 colors was a big draw. That said, I also like the lockout function of the front fork. I also considered the Marlin vs the Dual Sport. Your video comparing these two was also quite helpful. My decision was made easier since the Dual Sports are not available locally for me and the local dealer had a Red Marlin 6 in stock. Your comparison charts are outstanding. Really informative. Charles Reed I spent a whole day making calls and they were getting 4 of them, if u live in Cali/ Bay Area there should be a shipment of marlin 7 in like that red/yellow color way at the trek retailer in Santa Cruz in a month I believe - hope that helps out Definitely worth the money btw
