I said this on Rev's video too, but its funny how small indie devs and modders still manage to create beautiful models for women despite the whole "faces r hard" thing. If those people can manage it, there's no excuse for anyone with AAA funding.

Faces are hard because the big stuidos and publishers go for hyperrealism then actively sabotage their development process by firing the experienced workers and hireing newbies to 'save money'.
Indies do a lot better because they generally Don't try for that level of realism, so can use various stylisation tricks to compensate for their limitations, and are actually able to build up their skill set form one project to the next.
SH 2/3, games from twenty years ago, had amazing faces, and they've managed to shit away 20 years of technological improvements.

It's how they lead the directors and management that then bends the flow of the production. It's a blindfold and misdirect on the key players that add up to like a inferno of trash in the end.
Sometimes it's subversion, sometimes those key targets are convinced the blindfold helps, but a game only goes the way of Saints Row when the consults and the directors are both powerful grade BS at the same time.

If Awakening comes out and it has absolutely ZERO sales (Or at least abysmally low sales), it will be the strongest message anyone could give to the industry.

I don’t think anything would radicalize the entire gaming populace more than GTA 6 being bad. And if Rockstar has completely abandoned their target demographic to hire any company similar to SBI, then that reality is inevitable. The average consumer has NO idea about any of this stuff, but if GTA 6 is annoying and only has a few fat asses to make up for it, then the average gamer WILL become aware of this.

You know those fairy tales where the ugly stepmother and her ugly stepdaughter gaslight the pretty heroine that she's ugly and that they're beautiful? And are emotionally abusive to the heroine and attempt to force the prince/ love interest to choose them over the heroine, and then either try and use mind-control magic or manipulation to get the love interest to obey them, or they openly try to destroy him... those fairy tales? Yeah, there's several like that. Sound familiar?
And yes, there's plenty of ugly heroines and heroes in fairytales, but they usually become beautiful because they are beautiful inside in the end. People who are ugly inside AND ugly outside are the villains.

The fact that people are shocked that people want appealing character designs for these games' main casts is mind boggling. Thats how character design and marketting works people, its not a grand conspiracy lol. They don't even have to be pretty, just make them nice to look at. Horror monsters and ugly characters can work if you at least try instead of sheilding bad character design with "oh you just hate realistic women". This goes for male characters, too btw. Remember how pissed people were for Peter's redesign in the PS5 Spider-Man games?
Also, goes without saying, dragging real women into a conversation about character design and implying theyre "mistakes" is just shitty and awful. Not to mention way more misogynistic and racist than any of these critiques against fucking Mary Jane lol
It's all coming from the same place that feeds the fat acceptance movement. People are frustrated because they don't conform to traditional beauty standards, but instead of doing the best they can to improve themselves and get as close as they can to those standards to be more attractive, they try to redefine what beauty is. And somehow they have it all backwards. Instead of "media portray beautiful people to be more appealing to their audience", they think it's "the audience thinks it's beautiful because the media portray those people as such", concluding "If media showed unattractive people enough and said they were beautiful, the public would perceive them as beautiful, too! And if media said that traditional beauty standards are racist or sexist, all those people who are more beautiful than us would lose their advantage!"
Of course that's totally stupid and will never work, but somehow in these wokeness circles they all are at war against reality anyhow, so it escalates to a point where they are openly racist and sexist themselves just trying to argue their braindead agenda.

The way I see it, it looks like SBI are nepo-hiring their friends, that aspire to be artists, but don't have the skill for it. That, or they used AI to make those models.
Forspoken is also an SBI game and if memory serves right a lot of the work was done in the US or Canada department of Square.
