    The director of Yakuza was once interviewed, and in that interview, he was shown or told the demographics of the players of the newest game at that time.
    I can't quite remember the percentage, but a very noticeable percentile of the player base were female. He was very surprised that it was so high. He expected it would be less than 3%.
    He was then asked if he would make changes to the series in order to attract more women to the series.
    He answered no. Saying that would ultimately alienate everyone, including the women who are fans already. They (the players) all enjoy the game for what it is.

      It just needs to be what it was. And it's incredibly weird the video never tackles that.
      We used to have studios/offices that played games, reviewed them and were comprised of passionate gamers. And even back in the day, one look behind the curtain let you know that these guys aren't just playing games and sitting on their asses. They have way too much shit to play, stuff to highlight, outlets to manage etc.
      Which leads into a proper issue of gaming nowadays, where you not only need to stand out more, you also have way more games and mods and controversies and drama to discuss, with not enough time for half of it.
      But no, that argument gets shoved to the side, not even acknowledged and instead "it's all bad, it was never a good idea, this is stupid", which is just an incredibly childish and simplistic take.

      Like, did this guy even watch some of the old Spiderman cartoons and the comics themselves? Peter made a POINT of doing some ridiculous dives just to keep his skills sharp. No racial flex there at all. Stupid position to take, and I'm a black guy on the fringes of comic geek culture. Not a bit of race there at all.

    • @ethanfreeman1106
      @ethanfreeman1106 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      Yup, this obsession with always differentiating the race is actually a prime example of... Racism, fully on display.
      Like Alana I also thought that forced mentioning of the teen being "black" was super weird. Like... He's a dude, in a suit, swinging around in a cool way. That's what anyone would do if they suddenly had spiderman super powers. Why would it matter what skin color the guy was? Isn't the whole point of a full-body suit covering from head to toe to... hide your identity? Why bring that up? That serves no other purpose than to draw a line separating people from people categorically, so that you can look at them different, and treat them even more different, as if people aren't simply people.
      Granted this one passing mention was brief and you could be forgiven for not thinking too much of it, but it's just one example of many symptoms of a much bigger problem: Racial discrimination. Treating people differently based on nothing else but purely the information about their race. Not to celebrate the differences and unique characteristics between cultures, mind you, but just to put more focus on the mere labels themselves. It's really ironic.

    • @dowfreak7
      @dowfreak7 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I can see where that guy comes from, but he injects race into it where he doesn't need it.
      The idea is that Miles is a "cooler" Spiderman. He's less timid, he's less reserved, he's more expressive. It's not "the same Spiderman", that's the whole idea. Peter and Miles are different people and you can see that in the games, too.
      You could even potentially use the word "swagger" for it, even though nobody used that term in ages. But throwing race in there just wasn't necessary.

    I'm pretty sure there's some weirdness with that "46% of gamers are women" thing. Like, if memory serves, they get that number by counting literally all people playing games, including demographics you wouldn't normally count as gamers, such as middle aged women playing mobile games like Candy Crush while they're on their break at work. Admittedly, I could easily be wrong about that, but I feel really strongly like I've seen someone break down how they got that number, and it felt like it was a case of them wording their findings in a way that supports their narrative.

Also more in a more controversial fact, this would include any pastel flaggers labeling themselves as "female" in these questionnaires which artificially increase the number even more.

    • @KeytarArgonian
      @KeytarArgonian 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Correct. Merging the mobile market with the rest of gaming was a terrible, terrible mistake. For genuine reasons. It has skewed the demographic numbers to such a degree that the suits genuinely think the market has shifted that far. They think ‘marginalised black queer women’ is an enormous market, because they play candy crush or mobile dating sims.

    • @MoostachedSaiyanPrince
      @MoostachedSaiyanPrince 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@KeytarArgonian I don't think it's that the suits think the market has skewed. I think they know full well that a significant portion the women demographic is primarily playing mobile games. But the problem is that they see this as an untapped market for them. They see that women are the most common demographic on the mobile market, and they see that the mobile market makes a SHIT TON of money through micro transactions. So they're trying to change console games to be more like mobile games because they want to grab that momey from mobile games. But they're failing to realize that the audience (or should I say the money) they're trying to lure in comes from whales that throw away thousands of dollars on BS games without realizing it, not the women playing Candy Crush about 10 minutes a day. So when making the games more like movie games didn't work, companies like SBI popped up to tell them that they aren't leaning far enough to the left to draw in the audience they think is spending all that money. So instead of eating the lunch of the mobile game market, all the AAA publishers are doing is throwing their money into implementing predatory business practices and paying trash companies like SBI to teach them how to alienate they're existing audiences because they convinced that that's how they're tap that mobile game market. Meanwhile, using companies like SBI means that they'll get better deals when appealing to companies like Black Rock while they try to break into a market they fundamentally don't understand.

      Somewhat is backtracked.
      Daisuke has used otokonoko for him after October 2022, implying he's a crossdressing male. and one of the figures makes a point to say "by the way this character is a boy" there is also the official brand ambassador for Bridget in Japan is a crossdresser.
      Daisuke has admitted to making changes to strive for "global audiences" and the money focus was hinted by Mori as one of the reasons he left. I'd also like to point out Mori was one of the people who wrote Bridget's character, and Daisuke has had no part in the Arcade mode story for GG XX. The other was Emiko who was harassed out of Arcsys in 2011.
      However that has not been admitted in the west, and there has been no effort to correct things that the west lies about. Look, I am by NO MEANS defending SBI, but that like in Ragnarok narratively makes sense. The Kratos of GoW3 and Ragnarok ARE the same man, but he's not the same person he once was. He's grown to hate the things he did in Greece, only forgiving himself because it made him who he is now and Atreus has given his real purpose and redemption for his original family. He truly DOES want to be better.

  • @mephistoxii
    @mephistoxii 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    I consider that with the Kartos and Thor thing is not some SBI thing, following the previous game, Kratos, since he arrived to the north lands and managed to make a new family, decided to take a live that coulnd't have in Greece due the pact that made with Ares and how later was backstabbed by Athena after false promises of freedom. We can see that Thor was like him, a strong god that was manipulated to do what Odin orders, making him kill everyone on his path, and Kartos knows well how it feels like being used like a weapon, and because Thor still have his family, Kartos have seen that can leave that of being a bloody dog following Odin's orders and can be with his family and being the father that his daugther needs. Already in the first nordic game, Kartos says to Atreus that they need to be better, that killing ever god on theur way is not a solution, because Kartos have seen the consecuencies of kill a whole phanteon or nearly whole. And im just showing my point of view here, im not trying to defend SBI. Because the only thing odd in GOW Ragnarök, is Angrboda, because seeing all the jotuns bodies that are founded during the two games and the other nordic character that we find, is kinda strange her desing, that looks more african, like it don't fits there.

      3. Link is basically the first "self-insert" character in video games. You don't even have to call him "Link" until BotW. He's designed to be whatever the player feels he is. If you want him to have a nuclear family, great. If others don't, fine. Live & let live

All three timelines are like this, it's a blatantly hereditary story at all points.

The idea that he's into Sidon or whatever is no more fanfiction than the idea that he's into Ruto or Saria. (I prefer Mipha personally)
      2. I'll be honest, I don't know what you're trying to say. Link dies with no kids in this timeline. Definitionally, his bloodline is done
      3. If asking you to interpret the game in the way you want and to let others do the same isn't acceptance, I honestly don't know what is. Like, what's the goal here? You can literally just have your thing and ignore other people. Is that not enough?

    There has been a notable, idk what to call it, cognitive dissonance. Where drag is both "trans liberation" and "transphobic" depending on what the LGBT needs it to be at the time.
    A similar thing has gone on now with femboys, however because we don't do that flamboyent look and would rather look passing we're treated as "transphobic" or "eggs" for the most part. like, they're looking at drag queens like "you dress like a woman, act like a woman... just BE a woman!"
      meanwhile they don't see their own hypocrisy in using their gender stereotypes to misgender characters: like calling Link non-binary because he's not hyper masculine.

There are dozens of different races in the Anime and games, people with all kinds of skin tone, sizes, transsexual people, gay relationships are in there, you got the classic tomboys, the big sister, the goofy jokester.. and the list goes on!! But nothing feels forced, the Characters are not one dimensional, their sexuality or appearance is not the only thing that makes them unique. (one of my favorite Characters is Cagliostro, She was a guy before who decided to make a new body with the power of Alchemy, when the old Body was frail, but went with a female one and transferred the soul into it. Alongside becoming an even more powerful Alchemist, She now tries to be in her image the perfect Cute Woman, but her true personality seeps through from time to time, giving her so much more depth and its just a delight seeing her banter and the more psycho and sadistic side of her, She oozes personality, and this is just one of many chars who are like that with multiple layers of characteristics etc..)
    Truth be told i never really payed attention to this wide variety of "Diversity" in the Gran Blue fantasy Games until it got pointed out and i can tell you exactly why:
    It feels natural! Nothing feels forced and all the characters are wonderful, with their own quirks and story to tell!

    My Canadian friend has pointed out that this whole this is absolutely stupid because these people obviously make things that sell well, so the general market clearly doesn’t care, and we already did this ten years ago, it became stupid and annoying immediately, and it’s stupid and annoying again already, and everyone is ignoring all of the generally well-liked games that SBI was involved in just to create a boogeyman.
    My counterpoint to him was that he was completely right about the original GG quickly devolving into complete cringe, and the possibility is absolutely there for the same thing to happen, but this time, the general market has clearly been voicing displeasure at basically the entire gaming industry for years now. Companies like SBI are being paid hundreds of thousands to do whatever they can to ruin games, all while actual game designers are being laid off en masse. This time, it’s not just an undercurrent of people who don’t want games to become woke, this time it seems to be the majority of non-casual gamers who are fed up with the BS of the industry, and the recent disappointment of Sony’s Spider-Man 2 is probably what allowed this to be the case. The story being so bland that no one was talking about it a week after launch, and not being able to play as Venom outside of a single mission, combined with the industry heavily pushing the $70 pricetag, all while they hire people who seem to have a track record of making games worse, has absolutely caused many gamers to finally realize that they’re actually fed up with the gaming industry, and SBI is just the current outlet for that frustration, because it’s something that nearly everyone can agree is bad.

      That was just the beginning of the symptoms that started showing from early on, but I believe the problem runs much deeper than that. Imagine if the direct consumer-facing reviewer of a consumer product is so out of touch, how far up the corporate chain is it full of corrupt businessmen who simply have zero interests in ever learning about whatever it is they are doing?
      It's only now the truth starts coming out, but it'll take a while before everything is revealed to the public (mostly via self-reporting, funnily enough). I won't be surprised when we keep inevitably finding out more and more how deep this rabbit hole goes, so I won't waste my time staying baffled or upset. I'm just here for the ride, and I hope it'll be a good one, if just for nothing else than to partially make up for what they have been taking away from us.
      Gamers will always have the last laugh, because unlike those people who keep trying to bully us, we always know how to have fun. I think that's the most redeeming and important quality we have to be reminded of in these chaotic times.

      Did you all forget why his first family died? Because he was too nice and forgiving? So he took his revenge by killing all the gods because they were just playing with human's lives?
      I can agree that he is willing to change because he grew older and wiser and now has a new son and hopes for things to be different, but the "we have to be better for our children" to a god that doesn't care at all about it, did he roll a nat 20 on his persuasion? Nah man, there are way better ways of accomplishing his character growth and trying to convince gods to stop fucking with mortals to stop this endless cycle of war between gods and their creation. She had a bad take with god of war. The whole point of kratos rage and journey through the first series was because of this dead wife and daughter and the gods lying to him. He moved to a whole new area and had a child to hopefully be better. And he's grown into a father. He couldn't be with his daughter. So i thought the growth of his character was well thought out and pretty good.

I got a save editor made a moonlight sword build and jumped into pvp right away by teleporting myself to the dark forest. That was how I learned how to play darksouls games. the god of war reboots are good and ya I bought his character shift, he's an old man reflecting on all the destruction and death he caused throughout his life and dealing with the loss of his loved ones. Reflection comes with age so it makes sense. I haven't played Ragnarök yet (PC gamer here) but I really liked God of War (reboot). It is kind of a last of us-like though...
    Also I have a problem with people constantly saying that diversity hiring or forcing people into positions based on their race is "Protecting them." They aren't being attacked or intentionally excluded at this point, so making the assumption that they're protecting them just hits me as a narcissistic hero complex on the person who thinks they are saving them by pushing for them to be hired over someone of a different race that might be more qualified or interested.
    Lol RE5 XD I also played RE5 when I was a kid in coop with my bro and neither of us took the racist thought process. Honestly I really hope that they remake the game and keep it the same for the story. Also I think people forget that the real villains that are pulling the strings are Wesker, who is whiter than snow, another short white man who I think was Spanish? and then a Spanish/Italian lady.....Like what? I think this might've been a classic case of reviewers not actually playing through the game before trying to label it with a controversy.

    Its one thing to be bad at a game, we all get to a point when we have been staring at the screen for too long, are dead tired and on the verge of passing out. Even if a puzzle is easy, when your brain is at the end of its marathon of focus even simple tasks become difficult... that being said this is the tutorial, the point when your brain should be at full focus... and to make matters worse... you have to remind yourself that he got paid for this. Thats the part that I think frustrates people the most is when you get paid to do the thing most of us do for fun, it irks them when this is the level at which they do so. On the topic of phobias, I'd say it's rarely I see syringes being jabbed into ourselves (the character) with some exceptions. It got me rather unwell, as I do have two phobias that are close interlinked: Hemophobia (I in particular cannot see my own blood... I pass out. Luckily for me, this doesn't translate into seeing a video game character bleed profusely.This phobia was a particularly nasty thing... when I served in the military some years ago - as I did in fact suffer several injuries). ... AND Trypanophobia which is the fear of Needles, in itself rather common yet... I go into fight or flight during vaccines, drawing blood, etc. Gaming journalism, has given me two sides mentality - We got people like Second wind (Ben "yahtzee" Croshaw, among others) among many out there... who I value's ones opinion - reviwing games is another side of the journalist experience. The other side of that same coin, where I feel the need to scream... is when a journalist deems a game horrendous, but doesn't 1) read the instructions that is hinted on, in numerous ways - from background text, improptu buttons flashing up, etc. "Talk to Marleen, in the ship hanger" said the journal entry, and our character seem to get that mentioned to them by an npc that holds the breadcrumb trail for us. 2) Doesn't accept some personal critic, when we the gamers view the content... and find it very difficult to agree with their statements. - my imput is done, sorry for the inconsistant mess of a blobb of text. Thank you and have a nice day!

    The ending of GoW 3 really do be different for everyone, huh? Having played only 1-3 than the newer ones. At the end of 3, going into 4, Kratos no longer wants to kill all the gods, He no longer wants to be Athena's monster. You know change his ways... Yes, he does end up killing a lot of gods again in 4 and Ragnarok, but he's not here killing normal civilians just because wrong place wrong time, or I need a body to go this way. Or in a complete rage about it. Him not killing Thor, in my head cannon, is, this his way of paying him back for not just leaving Kratos dead at the start of Ragnarok. If you want the same thing, then just replay the old games. In fact, while you're replaying the old GoW, you should also look into "Sparten Total Warrior" another classic hack, and slash from the 2000s. OH, also in Ragnarok Kratos does say something along the lines of its ok to kill something or someone if their attacking you, so not all love amd cuddles from Kratos. He also doesnt care about the problems the people around him have. His kid does and after a bit of pestering and promise of loot does he help. While you can like/hate whatever game you wish, it seems to me a little unfair to say it came out of nowhere, that Kratos would change somewhat over however long he's been around.

    On the Thalassophobia thing. I am an arachnophobe, specifically spiders. Weirdly, never had a problem with scorpions. I don't like the big round spider eyes and the thick hairy legs. I want to clarify, I don't mean "Ew spiders are icky" I mean, I have a full on panic attack if I am in the room with one and become aware of it. I once did a full backwards standing jump over a couch in fear. One time I was working in the garden and I saw a big spider (about the size of my hand) crawling up my arm and I literally couldn't breath, I ran into the house, gasping, unable to breath until I vomited and that forced the diaphragm to work again. So when I say "Arachnophobic" - I really really mean it.
    With that in mind, and my basic understanding of self preservation, I have not played many games that feature large spiders. I have not played Grounded and there is a recording out there somewhere of my having a panic attack while playing Resident Evil HD because I forgot all about Black Tiger. It seems to me utterly ridiculous to attempt to put myself in a position where I may become physically harmed by my own personal phobias, to the extent that it sometimes doesn't even occur to me that a game with large spiders is even something I can play. Like it doesn't even come up on my radar. I wanted to play Grounded because I loved Honey, I Shrunk The Kids when I was young, but after seeing the giant spiders, I completely forgot about the game for over a year, until a friend of mine asked my if I'd played it yet.
    So, as someone with a phobia, I genuinely don't understand why anyone with Thalassophobia would even think about wanting to play a game like Subnautica, which is almost entirely in an ocean. With understanding my personal experience with arachnophobia, if I were afraid of the ocean, Subnautica would be like walking through walls, it wouldn't even cross my mind to play it. It wouldn't register as it would be a logical impossibility for me.
    Side note, but interestingly, the spiders in Skyrim don't scare me at all. I get shivers from some angles, but their faces are too.... *lip quiver*.... human....
