@JoesGuy generally speaking, encyclopedia sources are usually peer reviewed Academic research or are sourced from peer reviewed research.
Since Wikipedia is the encyclopedia for everything, and not everything gets peer reviewed research, they have to rely on news reports and publications for some other things.
This is why generally when it comes to stuff like politics, drama, recent events, etc. the pages of the involved parties usually get protected so the pages can't be edited until it all settles down and the information can be properly sorted through.
This is also why Wikipedia tends to be biased about those kinds of things, because the sources themselves are biased.
