    Hello angels !! In this episode in the artist in Paris diaries we are continuing the renovation process! I am DIYing a lot of this renovation and it's a lot of work especially in an old flat like this one. I have one month to transform my apartment and I'll share the journey and struggles with that process. Today I am working on filling the holes and cracks in the walls and also dealing with the struggles of flaky people in Pais and a leak in the ceiling :/ Anyway, I believe that everything helps us grow and It’s been quite the adventure so far and I’m excited to share this new chapter with you!!! If you enjoy you can subscribe for Paris vlogs and Art content every tuesday

      @@Xtr0g1rlhi! i got some curtain bangs and a "stairs" trim (I'm not sure how that translates to english properly), then I got it lightened and the front two pieces even lighter, eventually I want to wear an icy blonde for a while and then maybe do a pastel pink, but it's a process to get there (and my high school doesn't allow fun coloured hair so not sure how I will get around those rules, maybe if I make it very very pastel pink they won't notice 😅😅 or I'll just wait it out for the last 2 years and then do pink lol)

    While i'm sorry to hear you're dealing with so many unpleasant suprises, I do adore this series. Keeping the living room white for now does feel right in some way, like a true blank canvas where all your art work and wonderfull style can truly shine. You got this!

    i didnt look to see if anyone else commented about the tape on your ceiling and i'm no professional but i think thats drywall tape. used where 2 pieces of drywall meet to join them. so don't peel it off! i'd go over it with the wall putty and sand until smooth. hope this helps

    these ppl being late and not showing up and not even prevenir-ing triggers me so much. major flashbacks to my building repairman who would tell me a time then just not show up, call, then get mad when i call him out. WHAT IS IT ABOUT THAT PLACE??? right on brand. ANYWAY IT’S ALL TEMPORARY! (till the next time) 😅

    Fellow American - caring for an old french apartment here 😊. I would spray vinegar on the dark damp spots on the molding. It will show through the French primer 😒. Also tips: use plaster of Paris for the ceiling - it’s best to use the old artisans materials. Concrete is your enemy on an old rock building - make sure you use lime mortar. Never ever use an acid, bleach or vinegar on old tiles they will cause bloom (white spots). think of them of living breathing things ❤. You can sand the top layer of the tiles. The tape is there to hold 2 pieces of plaster together. Sand, sand, and sand some more- then add plaster. Adding weight on cracked parts will cause it to fail sooner. Keep the plaster ad light as possible- slowly add layers. If the apartment is damp and it needs a good dry out - the oil filled portable heaters are amazing at drying out the stone. Love this series 😍

    Thank you for sharing with us. Im very happy you made that beautiful tiles come to the Surface, they give so much character to the space.White walls is a wise choice, white can become very magical if you play with it with the light, also you can inject color to it with all the stuff you will put in your apartment, the white also will give you a feeling of airy and free space, the space will look bigger and more relaxing. Also the white fits with the classy elegant style from your apartment. Yellow is tricky combined wrong or the wrong tone can give you a a stressing feeling instead or sad instead of happy, also it can make the space look smaller and more saturated, and I dont think it fits with the green pine tone from the fireplace. The brown shelves are beautiful but in your case and the case of your apartment they cut the space, the intention is to make the space look more airy, bigger and relaxing, the brown shelves would look better in white, and it is because the fireplace is white as well, they will make the space look more classy and it keeps the feeling and character form your apartment and the harmony. I also would recommend you to paint white the brown wall besides the shelves and the frame of the window that opens to the kitchen, the brown of the frame also break the space in a way that make it feel smaller and less harmonic. I also recommend you to hang from the height of the ceiling, long wide white translucent Curtins that hang to the floor in the window that opens to the kitchen, you can open them or close then when you want, you can hide the mess in the kitchen but at same time the light will go through from the window of the kitchen and will give you the feeling of a extra window, you can open them and close them when you want but they will give a extra cozy feeling to the room and the sensation of more space, but it is important to paint white the frame of the window, it will look more classy bigger and airy the space, in fact will gove you more feeling of freedom and relax when you paint it white than now that is brown

    • @estellar.367
      @estellar.367 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      another tone I feel would look very pretty in your apartment is the tone tea green, or white this with tropical plants will give such a good feeling relaxing and harmonic, also plants are good for health because they clean the air from chemicals expelled by paint in the walls and furniture. also small furnitures will make your space look bigger. if is white wall you can make it very magical playing with the light, and lamps in different strategic places, that is the magic of the white and the light, because the light will give it different tonalities included yellow

    Shayna, you look so at ease walking in the street en route to the DIY shop- it's really nice to see😊
    Also, recommend getting an angled brush for 'cutting in' when painting skirting boards- I did my friends apartment last year & the right tools made it so much easier x

  • @yilangjiang934

    you are allowed to use chimneys in Paris if they are safe and if you get them cleaned once a year :)

  • @SG-ee5hf
    @SG-ee5hf 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Just an FYI, I also thought it was illegal to use a fireplace in Paris, but the law was changed in 2015 and you now can use them as long as they are not your primary chauffage and you get the ramonage done every year.
    (And I'm sure you've figured it out by now, but the tape is likely drywall tape - it can start showing through sometimes after a few years depending on how many coats of paint were put on).

    You can EASILY do this !!
    Painting a walls, ceiling and molding is so simple . You can even repair wood moldings with wood spackle or wood filling paste - tons of TH-cam vids. Also you can usually buy replacement moldings at a utility store or used building supply store. They are just either wood that u nail up or glue it.
    Also ask your neighbors for handyman refferal s or a hardware store clerk or owner - they know all people as they shop there
    Best wishes - LOVE your new shelves.
    Plumbing, electrical, gas or any Window replacement should be outsourced.
    I just redid the framing and siding on my garage with youtube and it was easy. You can you do it 😊

Beside the few flaws in your apartment, it is still an amazing beautiful space and by decorating and fixing things will bring you closer to it. I'm going to guess and say that the tape on ceiling is "drywall" tape. Sometimes a mesh, sometimes a paper that is placed where the two pieces of drywall are connected. Usually you use joint compound to spread over tape area and then sand it down to smooth/blend level to the wall. I don't know what material your ceiling (or walls) are made up of, but try to get experts opinion if joint compound will work on adhering to the areas you need to fix (cracks, etc.). If it looks like tape is holding - I would just use a putty knife/spackle tool to appy a layer over it and then let it dry and sand it down with drywall mesh "sandpaper". Best of luck.

    I'm really excotied for this house project, maybe because you are fulill a dream that i will never make True. I didn't put my roots anywhere, i plan to travel Europe jumping form place to place, and i don't intend to buy an apartment anywhere, especially not with a loan. To me an apartment would be a burden right now and în close future, don't know about the distant future yet, but i don't seem myslef buying one. Yet i love decorating and i love working on it, and i am always fascinate when people start decorating the place they own 🤩 i know you had this dream and i love seeing you fulfil one more of your wishes ❤️ thank you for giving us an insight of this entire project, step by step ❤️❤️❤️

    The tape: bet it's a base for putting the filler, so the cut that they used (to run wiring maybe?) winds up forming a channel, that the tape seals. There's actually a kind of mesh tape used here in the states to go under plaster or drywall mud or filler, called, drywall tape or mesh tape. Could it be that?

    Did you not get a survey done before you bought it to find out if there were any issues with the flat? Its a norm in the UK to do that...

    since your channel is called The Purple Palace, i hope at least one wall in your place or maybe even the shelves near your fireplace will be lavender/lilac/some other form of purp.
