KSP 2: Sending a Rover to EVE...Despite the Kraken Attacks!

  • Today is going to be epic, as I attempt my first ever interplanetary mission in Kerbal Space Program 2! Since we haven't got to worry about re-entry heating right now, let's do a nice, easy, simple Eve Rover mission, I am sure there won't be any glitches or game-breaking bugs or Kraken attacks that could possibly derail the entire mission multiple times. Oh wait, no, actually all of that did happen now that I think about it 🤔

I actually like that you can't just see the surface of Eve. Like in real life, KSP 2 should require players to send probes with appropriate scanning equipment (like the SCANsat mod for KSP 1). You can map the surface, and then send your rover or whatever and land it based on that scan data.

7:30 that bug is because sometimes parts of the previous stage stay attached to your current stage. And when you burn you move further away from those parts, making the game think the center of mass is between the old and new stage.

On strutting in KSP1 for bendy rockets 'I imagine for KSP2 as well' putting a structural square frame or beam 'even a short one but longer will give better results' sticking straight out of the side near the middle of the rocket on at least the 3 sided placement and then strutting from it all the way to the top and bottom or as far as it will reach helped FAR more than just adding a ton of strutting along the rocket hull at each section/joint. Your essentially making a cross brace sticking off the side and that triangle between the hull, frame, and strut gives it position and leverage to hold the rocket in place and adds an incredible amount of rigidity. Plus you can reach a LONG way along the hull and potentially reach past multiple tanks and stuff because the strut is lifted away from the hull at the one end and won't collide with and try to attach to the next section. This basically makes the strut a single long support instead of a ton of little ones 'like your rocket' that like to flex. If you just strut along the hull itself then it still flexes because they are inline with the hull and they just wobble with the rocket. It looks goofy as all heck having that frame sticking straight out the side of your rocket with struts running to it from top and bottom but it makes for a rock solid rocket.

*"It had so many struts that it ended up looking like a WWI fighter"* -Some Kerbal that day
And I think better than a toggle atmosphere would be you sending a sensor, like the sensors and cameras of KSP1 to see where you are going to land, maybe need to do a recon mission.

You have the patience of a saint my friend. With all these bugs the only thing I did was fly planes for a week.
Now I'm waiting for these fixes. You can't even rove properly because of wheel traction issues, and apparently by your video there are terrain/glitches with roving as well.
I mean a good workaround is to get sturdy plane wheel, a proper atmospheric rocket engine, and activate cheat "unlimited fuel" once you are on the rover. Until they fix it on their end, that's the only way... but it does not fix terrain glitches throwing your rover around like a ragdoll tho.
Much fixing to be done before I'm ready to invest tons of times into KSP2. :p

that particular camera bug happens when the ship thinks the previous stage is still "part of" the ship. so your camera focuses on the point in space BETWEEN the stages. The fix is to remove and recreate the lower stage that is bugging out (try ctrl c, delete, ctrl v).

The future of KSP 2 engineering is engines at the top of the rocket. Easier to pull a noodle than push it.

I've found a work around for the fairing. Once you make it, if it refuse to let you finish it, pick up the craft, and place it back down again. That'll force close the fairing dialogue, and remain completed.
I've never had it fail to open/stage doing this, it seems to work fine.

Dude, your patience for this game is un fking real lol. 16:45 “Struts are love, struts are life” Bruh! Thats your new T-shirt slogan. 33:05 Eve does have way more grav so, it’s not to out there to think that the rover would have some trouble. 😎

Thank you Matt for showing us how to beat the Kraken. Also, we trust you and need you to pass on the devs all these bugs that happen, you and the other creators are our hopes to make the devs understand what we struggle with when playing. I'm alright with staying a bit longer with low fps if they can put their priority on fixing the game breaking bugs that don't allow us to make stations or interplanetary missions without playing 20hrs straight and redoing everything 10 times :D

I found that setting a gimbal limit of 50% on the engine helped reduce the likelihood of spinning out of control in the thickest part of the atmosphere. Definitely agree that the atmosphere feels thicker than KSP1!

To close the fairings you have to press the check mark at the bottom and to build it you don’t have to keep pressing the “+” just anytime you need to make a size adjustment to it.
Anyway, love your videos!! I watch them anytime you release a new one. Have a good ol’ time (:

I would love to see the devs implementing the "Lowne-Viewer" some kind of space camera that - once placed in a planets orbit - can see through the clouds and give you a view of the planets surface.

Honestly I was one of the defenders of this game when everyone was annoyed there wouldn't be any content, because I thought 'Yeah, content can come later, but at least we'll have fun flying simple rockets waiting for updates'. But nope, it's not even capable of that. I am now in a limbo of waiting to see if they have the capacity to make even a basic game let alone the extra features they've announced.

Fun fact: there are game files and assets hidden from us in the game related to interstellar travel. The only reason we got this version is because the devs needed at least something out soon. They did it simply out of necessity to make the money back to continue bug fixes. Also if you look in task manager you will notice that ksp2 only uses 12-20% of the gpu which explains the low fps seen.
