I really love how you highlighted so many different types of players in this video. People on the low end just showing up to play and maybe set a PB, people scraping into the silver bracket, old legends showing they still got it, new faces outperforming everyone's expectations and of course the best in the world duking it out for the crown. So often all you see are the ones still standing close to the end, but you really showed, why people show up even if they might not have a chance to go all the way.

I keep remembering the 2019 GreenTea and Joseph Saelee match and they double killscreened - immediately after the first tournament match maxout, they both maxed out in the same game (#3)
The 2022 finals were this but not only steroids but comparing this game to that one was like a gigachad to a fucking nematode. All matches were double killscreens and were double maxouts (except the fourth which were both one-aways), but obviously the highlight has to be the third game, by a long shot. The killscreen beginning was closer on level count to the beginning (level 0) than it was to where they were at by the end of it all.

It's because you literally have to or get forced out of the game. Boring to watch these kids roll past kill screen and go on multiple rounds whereas before you needed to min mix and optimize tetrises since the kill screen acted as a good guarantee the game would end.

@@CloudyPotato-et2mn Don't know where you get that delusion. Fractal literally had a 100% tetris rate for the first 27 tetrises in quarterfinals alone, and many of these people can hold 80%+ tetris rates consistently going into 19 and even beyond.
This is the same exact type of argument as "lol no skill modern tetris players because they play super fast". Players can have a higher APM than you and also work their brain harder than you, it's fine to be completely outclassed, what's wrong with that? It's just a game at the end of the day, respect their dedication to it.
Stacking theory, though it's advanced since Jonas's time, really isn't that complicated, the mechanics and instant decision making is way more important, which surprise, they can do well...

I only just got into Tetris (in a very, very casual way) and had no idea these tournaments were a thing. It's so interesting to learn about the history of the game and how players are innovating to this day! Great channel.

Hey Scout, really enjoyed your video, you've done a great job of showing the event and the drama in the competition that is Tetris. Completely unrelated to your video, but I got a kick out of seeing the killer queen arcade cabinets in the background. :-)

I think one of my favorite lines in the video is "gamescout are you ready to like cover this?" it's always cute to me to see lil things like that :)

What a beautiful video. Thank you for sharing Scout, the remembering of the memories and all that was really, uh, nostalgic (for a year ago yeah lol)
    Some stray thoughts
-- Best of Five coming out soon huh?
-- Eric and Fractal hugging after the qual was like, reverse foreshadowing
-- shout out to all the old school and das players!! (LETS GO TUGI. TUGI SUCKS.)
-- Fractal being cheered on by the crowd (chanting his name) while saying this doesn't feel real, and Kingsman letting it sink in a moment... magical
-- and of course, Eric with the incredible win
You really captured the atmosphere and everything -- thank you again. See you in a less than a week!!

Yo man, I've been following your videos for a while and it just baffles me how I feel so in touch with a community that I'll probably never engage with. The enthusiasm, the sportsmanship, the overall positive vibe that seems to resonate with is just something incredible that I wish onto every community out there, no matter which game. Good luck in your event next weekend!
