Who else grew up in the 70's and remembers this classic tune? We heard it at all the school dances played by our local rock cover bands. This was a big hit!
I was a 10 year old kid in '74 and I can tell you that this song had an incredible amount of airplay on both AM and FM radio where I grew up in the northeast (Philly area), and I was fortunate to be in a family with the radio playing constantly, whether it was at home, in a car or with friends. No TH-cam in those days, you either listened to the radio or bought the album or tape. Obviously a few short years later I was also buying music as a teen. The '70s were an amazing time to be a teenager, and I will cherish those memories until my dying days!
The only thing I remember is that there is no way in hell I knew more than 4 of the words to this song, great song. Hard to believe now that I'm re-acquainted with BTO, how many epic tunes they recorded.
I think that I was 11 or so when I first got into rock music. I think that Not Fragile was the very first rock album that I bought. On 8 track. That and Dark Side of the Moon on the same purchase if I remember correctly.
This is a great song.. I was introduced to BTO in the late 70s early 80s .. I remember when my uncle wanted me to hear it.. I didn’t really want to, because.. idk.. the name bto wasn’t cool enough. Lol.. but as soon as I heard them.. I recognized a song or 2 from radio.. they soon became one of my favorite
Loved the bearded mountain man look they had. Fred's got the voice too! One of Canada's best...but there are so many. Those long winters turn out some great guitar players including yourself!
Sort of obscure punk reference with a clever name. Thanks tons for this, I've been a fan of BTO since their first LP and I heard Hold Back The Water and Don't Get Yourself In Trouble on the radio. Got to see them once, fortunately. Alas, we lost both Robbie and Tim this year.
I thought so! Haha. Great classic. When I first thought about this one I thought that it was only a hit in Canada, but when I looked it up, turns out that it went top 40 in the US at the time. Was their first US top 40 song at that.
3:20 Bm sus2, possibly? looks like a Bm triad, and, adding the C#, which would be a sus 2. It seems like this song jumps back and forth from an AM key signature, into an EM key signature, and, that Bm triad brings us into an Em key signature, for a parallel jump from EM into Em, albeit very brief, it works well! THis song has always captured my attention- I love it. It is written and played well. THANKS for breaking it down!
Hello. I’m thinking that barred Chord at the ninth fret is probably a C#m9- C#m. Depends what note the Bass is playing, of course. 😁 Great guitarist is Mr Bachman. Just a thought, and thank you.
Another great lesson Kelly. I still think you should do "Stay" by David Bowie, which has some great guitar work by Carlos Alomar and Earl Slick. 🎸 One day???😉
Hey Kelly Dean you're very hot on youtube right now how about some songs we never heard before from bullet boys like for the love of money keep up the good work brother everyone's watching you
Hey Kelly! Quick question. Do you know any good amp's in the ballpark of $500? I've been using the Boss Katana but can't churn out anything even remotely good. Just asking because you're guitar knowledge seems airtight. Thanks!
Hey man. Been hearing good things about the Blackstar Silver special, but it might be in the $700 range. The Line 6 Catalyst is getting some pretty good reviews as well in that price range.

Thanks mate. But wrong on the reference. I'll leave it open, haha.
Same here man, I heard Hold Back The Water and went OMG that was epic! Lesser know BTO song but so great!
Great lesson as always Kelly. Keep Romancing The Stone
Thanks mate. Close, but still, no one has nailed the reference. It's from a movie. One of my favorites.
This is one of the first albums I bought in high school. LOVED me some BTO! Thanks.
Thanks Kelly Dean

Excellent lesson. One of my favorites. Subscribed!
Excellent tutorial. Picking up my guitar up when I get home.
Started tackling the solo today. Kinda quirky but very cool sounding. Thanks a lot for breaking this down!
Great BTO classic! Man you are hitting out of the park Kelly. Wanted to show some support for your efforts so joined on Patreon. Great job man!
Appreciate that man, thank you kindly!
Just found your channel. Digging your style and delivery. Not too basic, not too advanced. Subscribed. Keep up the good work.
Excellent
Another winner! Not Fragile was the first hard rock album I bought and I wanted to BE Rob Bachman. Lol
Clear and to the point. Thank you
Cool riff thanks Kelly
😲 Good one! 👏

Awesome thanks ! Solo is similar flavor to the one in Steely Dan's "Go Back Jack Do It Again" 1973
Really enjoying your videos !
Perfect , thanks.

Sweet I love That Solo I could Swear I am getting a lesson from Dan Aykroyd Perfect !!!
He does sound like him!
Got it ! I have the same unfortunate sense of humor . Ha! Thanks for lesson .

Nice reference to High Fidelity!
This is great kelly 👏, any chance you could do roll on down the highway ?
And they should be in the rock hall of fame.
Nice....!
I believe it’s an inverted D maj 7 to D maj 6 after F# min 7
XGreat teacher
Truely,a great Rock Classic.😅
"Kathleen Turner Overdrive" - reference to the 2000 film High Fidelity.
Correct! The name of the band that Jack Black's band Sonic Death Monkey is going to change their name to.
Dang! There actually is a Kathleen Turner Overdrive band😮
Fuzzy😮
Another great lesson Kelly. I still think you should do "Stay" by David Bowie, which has some great guitar work by Carlos Alomar and Earl Slick. 🎸 One day???😉
Yes Kelly-Do Stay! Great suggestion
Whoa Petey😮
Great tutorial....but you forgot about the lead part in the last 30 seconds of the song.
Hey Kelly Dean you're very hot on youtube right now how about some songs we never heard before from bullet boys like for the love of money keep up the good work brother everyone's watching you
Ahh yes, Kathleen Turner from that iconic rock band “romancing The Rolling Stone” 😂😂
The chord you’re playing on the 9th fret is a F# minor 7. I don’t know why you call it an A.
With no F# in the base of that chord, it's an A major triad.
It's just someone's interpretation. Wonder what Randy Bachman would say about it.
You look like William Lane Craig, you could be his brother
Your opening riff sounds a little too dirty. Just sayin
Good thing he didn't ask you
@@urbanobstacles well, when I play it it sounds cleaner, like the original recording, just sayin
@jogmas12 uhuh so you felt the need to tear someone else down. "Just saying" just saying what? That your better than him?
@@urbanobstacles I’m just saying what is art without its critics ?
@@jogmas12 it's just art with or without your compaints

@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar I can break the bank slightly and inch up to $700. Thanks dude.
The FOUTH chord is NOT "A" Major. it is a hammer on onto "F# Minor". Listen again
Yep, the A major (2nd chord) doesn't repeat.
