Although I would have preferred it actually if it was 480hz 1440p (which is possible with the current tech) and then a 4K 240. That would be more appealing to me I think because more and more people are shifting towards 1440p as a ‘sweet spot’ and 4K as a higher end product anyway (yes 1080p has still the overall majority when you look at the steam stats for example but it is diminishing more and more). I think in a couple of years 1440p will be the standard instead of 1080p

How is the fringing compared to the ultrawides? One thing I really found annoying on the G8 was the fringing, which I would get used to, but if I used my laptop with a high res screen for any period I would immediately see it again. It was very slight though, but sometimes it could be annoying. Is the improvement good enough that you really have to look for it or is it still apparent? I saw the part about text clarity but you didn't compare to the old panels, those pictures aren't really useful if there is no comparison photo of another panel.
Just discovered your channel - awesome reviews! I need to pickup 2 4K monitors for gaming and general use. From the reviews I'm leaning to the Dough Spectrum 1 (bang for buck); but - I can also do the Alienware... is it worth the extra cost?
I'm very excited to buy this panel once it's available in the UK. Will be replacing some old Agon (AOC?) 1440p 144hz that looks washed out with terrible response times.
Quick question, does the 50 dollar Calman Client3 support full SDR and HDR calibration? Or do I really need to lay 2000 dollars for the professional Calman?
Breaks my heart that the monitor with G-sync and Dolby Vision is stuck at DP 1.4, unable to reach 4k 240hz in HDR. HDMI 2.1 only supports up to 4k 240hz SDR with DSC.
eARC is the selling point for me on this monitor as this will be connecting to both a Mac and Console using one set of speakers. If it was flat it would be a perfect monitor for me but I can live with a slight curve.
@@AlphaKid100Depending on how aggressive the curve is, and your use case, it can absolutely be a deal breaker. 1700 Curve is not bad. But I had a 32 inch Neo G7 with a 1000r curve and it was a nightmare to use with graphic design/illustration software.
Is the low-frequency choppiness simply caused by the refresh rate of the screen, or is it a function of the frame rate displayed? If it's the former, would using the frame doubling built into VRR improve the experience?
hhhmmm shurely it's cause of the refreshrate. got an omen x27 for 3 years now. running no sync's at all 60 fps information for a 240hz panel without is more than to less as input. 120fps is also not fluid. 180 starts that i would say. And 300+ is a little better than 240

Lacks USB-C input, KVM, and DIsplayPort 2.1. Small issues but HP Omen might have them all, so...
@@Ranguvar13 Quite minor issues I think, want to see reviews for the AORUS and HP - maybe they'll be a little brighter but of course they don't have that nice 1700R curve.
@Ranguvar13 Omen looks like the best of the rest, sadly no release date.
@@alejandrosilva9683 Yeah, I would rather buy a HP product vs. one from Gigabyte/AORUS too if it came down to it.
If it were 5120x2160 I'd consider it...ultrawide or nothing.
Yes, the inclusion of the curve and fan is enough for me to get the MSI version instead.
Have you even tried monitors with such slight curve (1700R)? I have other Dell display that has very similar 1800R curve. Its basically not noticeable at distance and very welcome (immersive) when sitting close to the display, imho the best of both worlds, its nowhere near the crazy curve of 1000R that Samsung has.
1800r curve on aw3423dw is really subtle but not sure about it on a 16:9... I don't see the point of the curve on a panel this size and ratio
It’s worth mentioning that it includes 3 year burn in warranty right? As I don’t think ASUS would do something like that
Yeah it's huge. Means you can run this hard with no worry about burn in since you can just get a replacement. Honestly you kinda want burn in so you can grab a fresh panel within warranty.
@@juanestrada3242 I mean last part is debatable 😅 but yeah that peace of mind should definitely be a factor when considering to purchase this monitor compared to an MSI or Gigabyte one which I think are only going to offer 2 Years at most or even none.
@@heyimwooftrue. If you have a credit card that has extended warranty that’ll be good to use it. I’ll be buying one of these monitors soon just waiting for more reviews and my credit card extends my purchase warranty by an additional two years. It’ll be nice not to have to worry about burn ins for 5 years.
@@flamingrage100oh don't worry, it'll burn in far sooner than 5 years.
@@juanestrada3242Or get screwed by getting a refurbished one with its own faults like a number of the dw/dwf users already. One reason for this is that there's no way they'll continue to make this panel 2+ years from now.
This warranty sounds nice on paper, but it should be taken with some reservations.
Hi Display guy, you said you don't consider this the end game monitor. Which monitor would say is YOUR end game monitor? I have my eye on this monitor and the Asus dual mode monitor, which offers 480 hz gaming at 1080p and 240 hz at 4k. I want to wait on the release of the Asus monitor to make my choice.
Unfortunately that monitor you are talking about is matte :( and it’s also WOLED which makes me wonder fixed the pixel layout on that display
@@emiel255 yes you are right I wpuld have preferred a glossy finish on it but I do my gaming in a semi lit room.So I don't think I would mind it as much aince the display is apparently capable of 1,300 nits of brightness. The dual mode is really what is drawing me in tbh.
@@Anakin_Ackerman yes but that 1300 nits is only on a 2% window max which imho is nothing but at least it’s an improvement over 2nd gen OLED hahah
And that dual mode you are talking about is a big feature and I think they should do this on all premium monitors. It’s such a cool idea it even makes me wonder why it hasn’t been done before ages ago.
Are you planning to review the 27 inch 360hz model as well?
I bought the 27" 360hz QD-OLED. I already have a 4K OLED and I wanted the faster refresh rate. Can't wait for it to get here.
Question about this since it gets blurry at 60hz would this not be a good monitor for Xbox and PlayStation since very few games reach 120hz at this point?
Does DSC noticeable for visuals? Thinking about getting this or wait for the rest of the monitors to come out first. Very tempting.
What monitor arm would you suggest?
Do you feel at a big disadvantage with online first person shooter games with this?
Assuming frames per second not being a factor.
Glad these are releasing but 400 nits in 10% window is way less than I was expecting out of these
Ordered one last week it will be here Before Firday cant wait .
mine has been a nightmare. tons of issues. Gsync doesnt work on HDMI. HDR is a mess all over the place with all the modes. Color profiles default to 240nits. have to run hdr cal. to get 500 nits. fan doesnt turn on. getting over heat warning messages. have to go into the menu and turn on fan manually. Stuck in dolby vision in the desktop. and more....
needs FW update at min. and nvidia driver is "upcoming" on their website
im gonna ride it out for ~25 more days and see if there is word on a FW update. otherwise i will return, for either Asus, or hopefully Gigabyte/HP gives us some news.
Mines coming in tomorrow. It'll be a shame if I have to return it
are you the same guy that posted about this on reddit?
@@veilmontTV that or bite the bullet for a FW update. they will fix it eventually. or would have thousands of returns
@@consumev probably one of them. I haven't made my own post. Only comments
I’ve been wondering how good this is for color grading. It’s 10x cheaper than the FSI XMP310
I get that it won’t be as versatile but can’t help but wonder if it could work for at home colorists doing mostly online content
I had a second generation QD Oled and i hated how you only can get good blacks on very low lights room, how dark have to be the room to avoid blacks looks gray??
@@rahb2096 why stupid people have to answer a question is not for them?
No flat screen = No deal
No DisplayPort 2.1a = No deal
No HDMI 2.1a = No deal
yeah seems like a bit of a bummer. rushed out the gate just be one of the firsts but having so many shortcomings.
What you mean , the HDMI is not 48 GB's ?
Damn I really want a 3840x1600 ultrawide. Where tf are those?
I can’t wait for mine to come in on the 25th!!!!! What do you have your pc hooked up to DP port or HDMI 2.1 will it make a difference?
Plans on reviewing the 27in one?
Let’s gooooo! Are you gonna review the AW2725DF as well?
Yes.
I play mmo's primarily like WoW and Old Republic with a bit of Fall Out. Is this too much monitor for games like that?
Did you used only HDMI on this review? Is it happening the same issues in DP?
How does it compare to MSI 321URX? Is the AW activly or passivly cooled?
Can you recommend this for console gaming?
Did you install the drivers and software? Your comment regarding Windows looking washed out in HDR doesn't add up, and sounds like there is no HDR color profile installed.
HDR profiles are irrelevant. Every game, every movie, every show is different. HDR regardless of settings always looks washed out, less bright, and less color pop.
A lot of other reviewers are saying that it's the Quantum Dot layer that creates the purple from ambient light, not the glossy finish
It is - I have the aw3423dw and it lokks grayish when in standby mode
That's true. But a matte layer would hide it somewhat.
It's very attractive to me. Are there any plans to release it in Japan?
Bro you hilarious. I love how you popped off this review lol.
What about the fan, does it have one? if so is it loud? I did read that it did have a fan? why is thier no mention of it?
@@rahb2096 So let me get this right, you think he did not mention it becasue its only on some of the time. M8 are you ok.
I heard on other reviews it’s not noticeable at all
@@elchancho8432 Yeh, This may be a good thing, problem is, when it gets summer, when the fan fills with dust, after 4 months how is it then? Becasue it cannot get better only worse.
1200 is too much ! Especially when eventually in a few months will see it on sale for under $1k. That 42" oled from Lg is like 800 now.
i just ordered it!
$120 off cause of my amex and it brings 3 year burn out warranty
Same thing i did. I noticed HP has a $150 off but I didn't feel like waiting for the Omen. If the Omen gets crazy reviews I'll check the refund policy 😂
Rakuten also has 15% off of dell purchases :)
I've been using a 55 in LG C2 for awhile, love it. Would this be much of a difference in picture quality?
good question ppi is better ofc but picture quality i think no diffrence
Just received mine today, looks beautiful, I'm testing games out but I might just take my LG 45' oled back.
I am having massive amounts of tearing using G-Sync and HDMI 2.1 on this monitor (both ports). I've tried different cables and a separate monitor to make sure it wasn't my GPU/Cables. DP 1.4 works great. I may RMA it unforunately.
Do you need HDMI to use consoles or something? I'll just be using it with a PC and DP1.4a will do the job well it seems. Getting my AW3225QF delivered today.
It’s an issue with 4xxx series cards and HDMI on the monitor. DP works fine. Hopefully a driver/firmware update fixes it. I’m also surprised nobody mentions the issue with Dolby vision being stuck on as well.
can you please do a review of the new firmware on this monitor or is the new firmware good enough
People will freak out about the coating but my current best bet is Samsung's panel will be my go to.
Sadly it is matte and you will be sacrificing a lot of the quality 😢
I just ordered thsi Monitor.
I have the Xrite Colormunki monitor calibrator.
Can I use that to create the icc profile, then tweak from
there to make it look better for gaming?
Thanks for all your vids, I've watched quite a few and
have joined your Patreon as well.
sure why not. use it.
Anyone try eARC on the HDMI 2.1 ports on this thing? Trying to replace LG CX OLED TV as my monitor with one of these new displays, but need eARC for my Dolby Atmos soundbar.
Far, far, far better. I'm kind of a font nut, and I'm typing on it now. 140dpi is phenomenal, it easily overcomes any minor fringing at any size.
@@Ranguvar13how much of an upgrade is this for you than the g8 or aw3423dwf?
Haven't tried those, because I care a lot about text and I want high DPI. Coming from 27" and 25" 1440p IPS monitors and I love it.@@drewand1515

I have one arriving on Friday. I ordered it on day one.
Is the 27” version glossy as well?
Yes
@@dylankeenan1590 thanks
I'm very excited to buy this panel once it's available in the UK. Will be replacing some old Agon (AOC?) 1440p 144hz that looks washed out with terrible response times.
Quick question, does the 50 dollar Calman Client3 support full SDR and HDR calibration? Or do I really need to lay 2000 dollars for the professional Calman?
There is no way to calibrate HDR professionally, there is no standard.
NEO G8 OR this Alienware ? i dont know which one choose!!!!!!
Why not use display cleaners there are specific display cleaners (which are I think just watered down isopropanol)?
Seeing as this doesn’t have a headphone out port, will USB-C to 3.5mm output any sound ? Does it have a sound interface in the menu ? Thanks !
Breaks my heart that the monitor with G-sync and Dolby Vision is stuck at DP 1.4, unable to reach 4k 240hz in HDR. HDMI 2.1 only supports up to 4k 240hz SDR with DSC.
Could you make a video explaining QD OLED vs WLOLED?

F in the end stands for no native Gsync module. Alienware uses that last F letter for all their monitors with no native Gsync.
f was a freesync
How % better than Samsung Odyssey G7? Do you think?
eARC is the selling point for me on this monitor as this will be connecting to both a Mac and Console using one set of speakers. If it was flat it would be a perfect monitor for me but I can live with a slight curve.
Curved or Flat is fine, not a deal breaker.
@@AlphaKid100Depending on how aggressive the curve is, and your use case, it can absolutely be a deal breaker.
1700 Curve is not bad. But I had a 32 inch Neo G7 with a 1000r curve and it was a nightmare to use with graphic design/illustration software.

@@AqepbxVondxDp2.1 is only necessary for 8k gaming above 60hz
I know it has no Freesync Premium Pro certification, but does adaptive sync (VRR) + hdr over DP work with an AMD graphics card?
Do you use 12 bit color setting for dolby vision?
I want the screen and the cat! Where do I pay? 😂😍 Nice review!
Is the low-frequency choppiness simply caused by the refresh rate of the screen, or is it a function of the frame rate displayed? If it's the former, would using the frame doubling built into VRR improve the experience?
It's just because OLEDs are so fast, so the less blur makes 60fps look AWFUL.
hhhmmm shurely it's cause of the refreshrate. got an omen x27 for 3 years now. running no sync's at all 60 fps information for a 240hz panel without is more than to less as input. 120fps is also not fluid. 180 starts that i would say. And 300+ is a little better than 240

I need it in 34 inch. Do we have a 34 inch model with 4k coming out?
could you test the AW2725DF?
