Just beginning with your lessons Jon. May I say to all of us newbies, be kind to yourself. Wear gloves and and wear a mask!! do exactly as he says, and dont rush! One of the best tips I think because that is my downfall. Dont expect perfection at first. Take your time and practice the different lessons...wont take long and you'' be pumpin out awesome and jaw dropping universal images in no time! Ok, next lesson....

Hi Darth, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, and the question, I appreciate it :) Yes its just pieces of card with different sizes in them, and yes i cut the circles out by hand, It's up to you on the sizes it all depends on how big you want the stars hope this helps :)
That’s fantastic thank you! I’ve noticed my beginner paintings have like a paint dust on them afterwards, is that just like a residue because they’ve not be sprayed with clear after? Thanks so much xx
Hi Caroline, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, feedback, and question, I really appreciate it :) Straight after you have painted is there dust? or like a day or 2 after? I have found If it's straight after then there could be a few reasons for that 1) the paint has not been mixed up well enough in the can, so to avoid this shake your cans more before using them, 2) It's to warm so some of the paint can dry to like a dust when spraying it on to the painting 3) Adding mist or other things can sometimes produce dust on your painting 4) Just painting can produce dust in the air, so if a painting takes a while to paint then where the dry areas are on the painting dust may build up while you are painting other areas, hope this makes sense. If it's a day or 2 after and there's dust on them that's because the dust/particles that are in the air have landed on the painting, I hope this helps Caroline :)
@@JonBarberArt Hi Jon thanks so much for replying. I mean like paint dust not household. I’ve not coated mine in gloss and when I run my fingers over them even weeks later, paint powder comes off on my fingers. I did start last Summer briefly then became ill so only just picking up a can again so I’m wondering if it’s not shaking enough and too warm as you say xx

Great video man but I am having trouble with the stars I keep getting a lot of over spray my lines are not clean like yours what I am I doing wrong I am using Montana gold with a ultra skinny cap level 1 and I’ve tried the gold standard cap and I am having the same problem also what kinda cap are you using in this video?
Hi Vidaldiddy, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, feedback and the question I really appreciate it :) To avoid a lot of overspray try pressing the cap down lighter to let less paint out and also are you spraying the paint at the painting like at the bottom of what you are using to make the lines? if so try spraying a bit higher from the painting, Also the caps I'm using are skinny caps hope this helps :)
Hi Cccp, Thank you so much for the comment and the question i really appreciate it :) Yes this will work on a wall, you just have to spray the paint a bit lighter to avoid any drips :) hope this helps.
Hi Alice, Thank you so much for watching, and for taking the time to leave this comment and question I appreciate it :) The last thing i sprayed on is a clear coat and yes you can use it on a wall , but you will have to put it on with light coats, if you put it on to heavy it will start to run down the wall, hope this helps :)
Hi Laura, Thank you very much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment and question I really appreciate it :) Yes the chisel and the paper are touching the painting, In my eyes the closer you get to the painting with them the better the lines come out :) hope this helps.
You may have mentioned this in one of the other tutorials, but are you using gloss or matte? I’m wonder about that for each black, colors and clear coat. Thanks!
Hi Fil Caetano, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment, feedback and question i really appreciate it :) I use glossy card to paint on hope this helps :)
I love your video How to Make Stars. I enjoy all your creations specially the space oriented art, but you seem to have mastered much more than Space Art. I am pleased I found you here. I have been a fan of spray paint art for years. ha ha Specially Graffitti as a kid. You mentioned the mask for safety. Let me re-mention that topic. Those masks are incredibly important. I used to be a sign painter and over the years I had several peers in the industry pass from respiratory problems. Sorry to be grim, but since spraying is what you most, it should be mentioned. Thank you for your video. Love the topic.

Hi Arrowhead, Thank you very much for the comment and the question i appreciate it :) Are you spraying it on your fingers and then flicking some off before you add them to the painting? Learning a lot from your videos! Just started this week, it could be awesome if I could just personalize some things like my guitar or ps4^^ thank you for your guidance and clear way of explaining! Subbed! Ps: what do you notice the most between cheaper, midprice and more expensive cans? Is it worth it if you'd go for detail?
Hi Marco, Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to leave this comment feedback and question i really appreciate it :) It's also nice to hear that this video has help you learn :) The thing i have notice between the cheaper paints and the more expensive paint is that the cheaper paint tend to have less pigments of colour in them and they are a little more runnier then the more expensive one's hope this helps :)
Hi Angela, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, and the question, I really appreciate it :) i can't really remember what the exact size's were, I think they were something like half inch, 1 inch and 2 inch, hope this helps :)
Hi Kris, No problem, Glad to hear that the video tutorial helped you with your stars :) Also thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment i really appreciate it :)
What kind of spray paint are you using? Because the moment you started on your colored stars… You held over one spot for a good few seconds. If I were to use the kind of spray paint, I have in the same way, you wouldn’t be able to see any of the stars under the paint let alone in the surrounding area. Either you have a thinner mixed version of spray paint, or I have an incredibly dense spray paint.
Hi Kyle, Thank you very much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, and the question, I really appreciate it :) The spray paint im using is montana gold, you have to press the cap down really light to produce a mist and not a block of colour, that way you can still see things behind the colours, Hope this helps :)
Hi Brad, Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to leave this comment, and the question, i really appreciate it :) i suppose you could use a roll to put the clear coat on, but the paint would have to be completely dry before doing so, hope this helps :)

Please realize that unless you are looking at stars through a telescope with a secondary mirror in the light path you wont see the 'spikes' (literally diffraction spikes) around,or on the stars. Beautiful work and awesome technics thank you for sharing
if you’ve read The King in Yellow by Robert Chambers… he talks about in Carcosa there are two towers that are so big, they are “behind the moon”. i wonder if you could do a quick perspective piece with two giant black towers behind a moon? thanks!
Hi Iggy, Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment and question i really appreciate it :) Do you mean when you are doing the stars? If so are using the cardboard with the hole in the middle or are you just spraying the paint out of the can straight on to your painting?
thank you for sharing your ideas on doing paint art, It was very helpful. I make custom guitars and I just started painting like this, I love it. I like how you showed different ways to do different things. If you would like to check out my guitars stop into Mojo Johnson Guitars.. again thanks

Thank you so much for coming over and having a look at my channel :) and for leaving a comment, feedback and support its very appreciated :) Yes Eve is a very good artist
i tired this method with stencils and it is not that easy like you make it look like in this video. i can not get the center of the star at all. i tired to do a mark with a spatula to hit it in the middle but it really is not that easy for a beginner. and some cans just flood the paint and it looks terrible. i see there will be a long way to do one painting which will be awesome
Hi Sputnik, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave these kind words and this comment, and the feedback, I really appreciate it :) To get the center of the stars make sure that you hold the stencil over the place where all the lines cross over that way you will get it in the center, it may take a bit of practice to get in right tho, but you'll get there :) When you go to spray the paint in the center press the cap down lighter then you normally do, this way you will get less paint come out and shouldn't get a flood of paint in the middle :) hope this helps :)
This has been the thing frustrating me the most. It looks so easy, but whenever Itry to make a star it ALWAYS looks trash. Too much white where I don’t want it -_- talking about the bright ones you make with a straight edge
Hi Dillon, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment and feedback i really appreciate it :) When you go to put the white in just press the cap lighter to let less paint out. The more you practice them the better they will get :) hope this helps.

Thank you so much Dixit , it's very much appreciated :)
@12:05 are you touching the painting with the plastic scraper or hovering? If hovering, how high?
Just beginning with your lessons Jon. May I say to all of us newbies, be kind to yourself. Wear gloves and and wear a mask!! do exactly as he says, and dont rush! One of the best tips I think because that is my downfall. Dont expect perfection at first. Take your time and practice the different lessons...wont take long and you'' be pumpin out awesome and jaw dropping universal images in no time! Ok, next lesson....
Hi, absolutely love your videos.
just wondering what you do to keep your caps from getting clogged and spitting everywhere.
Hi Burtee, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment, great feedback, and question, I really appreciate it :) I clean the nozzle on the caps every time i finish with them on a day i paint, but if they start spitting a lot or not spraying right after a few cleans i just replace the cap with a new one :) It's also nice to hear that you love my videos :) :)
@@JonBarberArt I’m just starting… the amount of caps on the market is just bamboozling!
Thank you, I have been looking for a good way to do stars :)
Hi, Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to leave a comment it’s very much appreciated :) :) It's nice to hear that you found the the video helpful :)

Stunning artwork
Thank you :) much appreciated :)
Your art work is amazing!!!
Can a canvass be used instead of paper?
Brilliant tutorial Jon. Really enjoyed watching that. I’m sure it’ll help a lot of people who want to use spray paints. Hope you’re good mate 👍👍👍
Hi Lee , i'm good thank you and your self? Thanks a lot mate for the positive comment , i hope it does's help people out , i enjoy making these step by step tutorials , I'm glad you enjoyed watching this one , Have a good weekend friend :)
So, just circles cur out of pieces of card stock? Do you just cut out the circles by hand? What sizes do you use?
Nice video mate this is amazing!
Thank you Eve for the feed back, much appreciated :)
For me the entire right side look better. The clouds look more natural and the water sharper. Keep it up dude. You seem to understand what you are doing. :) I've seen some videos of you now and I've learned a lot from you. Thanks sir.
I am writin Graffiti for some years now and I think it's cool to see different things painted with spray cans. I already tried this art form.
But my finished pieces never satisfied me. :)
I'm happy to give it another try after watching your videos.
Peace and health from Germany.
And remember kids, always put on a respirator mask while painting. :)
Hi RiOS, Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to leave this great comment and fab feedback i really appreciate it :) I think you may of left this comment on the wrong video :) but i know which one of mine you are on about :) Yes i like using them all it just depends what i want in that said painting. It's also nice to hear that watching some of my videos have help you out a lot to learn, I think most people are never satisfied with some of there painting but we as the artist are, are worst critic.
Thank you so much for this tutorial.
Thanks for that.
Hi Sam, No problem, Thank you so much for watching, and for taking the time to leave this comment, I really appreciate it :)
Wow this is so inspiring!! Thank you so much for the tips! 😃🙏🏻✨
Hi Katherine , thank you for taking the time for leaving the positive feedback and for taking the time to leave a comment it's very much appreciated :)
@@JonBarberArt thanks man
No problem Vidaldiddy, Happy to help :)
Jon great Art's...😄♥️👍🔔🔔🔔🔔👍♥️😄
Thank you very much for the comment and feedback :) It's much appreciated :)
Thank you so much ❤
Hi Jon! Would this technique work on an outside wall? I'm doing a mural and not sure if the spray paint will drip.
Hi Cccp, Thank you so much for the comment and the question i really appreciate it :) Yes this will work on a wall, you just have to spray the paint a bit lighter to avoid any drips :) hope this helps.
@@JonBarberArt Thank you!! 💕
Thanks for this.
Hi Jon
which kind of spray you are using at last and can i use it on the wall too?
Hi Alice, Thank you so much for watching, and for taking the time to leave this comment and question I appreciate it :) The last thing i sprayed on is a clear coat and yes you can use it on a wall , but you will have to put it on with light coats, if you put it on to heavy it will start to run down the wall, hope this helps :)
is the chisel or the paper touching the painting or is it hovering just a bit above?
Hi Laura, Thank you very much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment and question I really appreciate it :) Yes the chisel and the paper are touching the painting, In my eyes the closer you get to the painting with them the better the lines come out :) hope this helps.
Nice
You may have mentioned this in one of the other tutorials, but are you using gloss or matte? I’m wonder about that for each black, colors and clear coat. Thanks!
Hi jon amazing stuff what type of paper or card do you use for your canvas?
Hi, Wow Thanks you so much for taking the time to leave a comment and the great feedback its very much appreciated :) Yes the mask is a must , also some good ventilation as well , i'm glad you have found me and like my artwork and hope you will enjoyed my future videos :)
Hello Jon! Your videos are great! Do you happen to know the sizes of the holes in the star stencils?
Hi Chris, Thank you so much for watching, and for taking the time to leave these kind words and this comment, feedback and the question I really appreciate it :) I think the smallest one was around 1.5 cm and then 2.5 cm and then around 3 cm hope this helps :)
@@JonBarberArt Thanks Jon!
No problem Chris, Happy to help :)
Question: when you flick the paint do you spray white paint onto your finger then flick?? Or spray A tiny puddle and flick your paint
Hi ItzNozey, Thank you for the comment and question i really appreciate it :) I spray the white on to my finger tips first and then flick it hope this helps :)
wow! love the technique... I think I need to try this.. tfs, I'm new friend here 😊
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment and for the feedback its very much appreciated :)
You are great enlightenment
Hey Jon, do the size of the holes in the card matter or will any small, medium, large holes produce this effect?
Hi Ya Boi Dad, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave this comment and question i really appreciate it :) You can make them any size you want too depending how big you want the stars, it will still work the same, Hope this helps.
u are a genius

Dear Jon thank you for tutorial, i love your work you are a great artist. I was wondering which kind of spray paint you are using is it acrylic or water spray paint. thanks again.

Montana gold spray paint cans, acrylic
Hi Alice, Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words, and also for taking the time to leave this great comment, Fab feedback, and the question I really appreciate it :) I used montana gold which is acrylic in this one, hope this helps :) I'm hoping to try some water based paint at some point to see what it's like tho :)
Hi Arrowhead, Thank you so much for answering Alice's question i really appreciate it :)
@@JonBarberArt hello whenever I try and do the stars I put enough paint on my fingers but barely any stars come out
Hi Arrowhead, Thank you very much for the comment and the question i appreciate it :) Are you spraying it on your fingers and then flicking some off before you add them to the painting? If so you may be taking to much paint off your fingers before flicking the rest on to the painting let me know how you get on :)
Can I ask which clear coat you use? As it looks so much easier than liquid resin
Hi Johnny, Thank you very much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment and question, it’s really appreciated :) I use Montana clear coat/varnish on my painting, hope this helps :)
Jon, what brand of spray paint do you use. It looks like it comes out with a nice mist..
Hi Benjamin, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment and question i really appreciate it :) The brand i use is Montana hope this helps :)
What cap was used to spray the lines on the stars ?
Im curious what size are each of the 3 circles used for this?
Hi Angela, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, and the question, I really appreciate it :) i can't really remember what the exact size's were, I think they were something like half inch, 1 inch and 2 inch, hope this helps :)
Thank you Jon, I tried to do one and completely botched it!. Came on here and watched your vid and success =)
@@JonBarberArt it did!! Thank you. I was surprised to of actually got a Reaponce.
Wow! Awesome! Liked and subbed. Stay connected.

Thank you :)
Can you use a roller with the clear coat if you was doing this on a wall? If so, do you do the clear coat once the paint is fully dried?
Hi Brad, Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to leave this comment, and the question, i really appreciate it :) i suppose you could use a roll to put the clear coat on, but the paint would have to be completely dry before doing so, hope this helps :)
@@JonBarberArt yes, thanks so much. My wife finished the wall and decided against the clear coat, but the wall turned out great. Your vids are awesome.
Jon..the circle cut outs are what? Just poster paper?😅 looks like sandpaper disks
Hi Ellony, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, and the question, I really appreciate it :) The circle cuts out are made from card, so they are a bit stiffer and don't bend :) hope this helps :)
Please realize that unless you are looking at stars through a telescope with a secondary mirror in the light path you wont see the 'spikes' (literally diffraction spikes) around,or on the stars. Beautiful work and awesome technics thank you for sharing

if you’ve read The King in Yellow by Robert Chambers… he talks about in Carcosa there are two towers that are so big, they are “behind the moon”. i wonder if you could do a quick perspective piece with two giant black towers behind a moon? thanks!

Hi, have you ever tried a tooth brush?
pretty damn cool
Question: Whenever I’m spraying, the color goes all over the painting. Is there a way to fix this?
Hi Iggy, Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment and question i really appreciate it :) Do you mean when you are doing the stars? If so are using the cardboard with the hole in the middle or are you just spraying the paint out of the can straight on to your painting?
Thxs for replying. I was spraying while watching the video, and didn’t see the cardboard🤪
Try using the cardboard with the hole in the middle it really doe's work well :)
thank you for sharing your ideas on doing paint art, It was very helpful. I make custom guitars and I just started painting like this, I love it. I like how you showed different ways to do different things. If you would like to check out my guitars stop into Mojo Johnson Guitars.. again thanks

hey so cool. we found you from Eve Harvey Art's channel :D
Looks like the carpet in an old arcade
Hi Jon, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, I really appreciate it :) yes it doe's kind of look like it :)
Jon Barber Art ; thanks for the tip! I also bought some Montana Gold brand spraypaint, bought some white cans for this. It has made such an incredible difference with this change, they are already looking better!
No problem Dillon, Happy i could help :) Glad to hear they are getting better :)
I like to soak my spray paint in hot water for 30 minutes before hand.
Hi Tim, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, and the suggestion I really appreciate it :) Yes that will work for warming the cans up when it's a bit to cold :)
