    I just loved your video. I didn’t know anything about this kind of art until my 11 year old grandson informed me he was starting a business with the money he had saved! And, that’s exactly what he did two weeks ago. He is going at it with such confidence and already improving. And, that’s what brought me to your video. I’m looking forward to showing it to him.

    Also, your shooting stars are not terrible at all. I’ve been doing that “bump the can upside-down” for the past year since starting and it’s just too messy (especially trying to attempt on framed canvas 😬 lesson learned)

    In think I like the first and fourth examples the best because they seem to look more natural. The second example is really neat too though because it looks like something ripped a hole in space and a giant face is peeking through. An awesome space video game I’ve been playing a lot lately is called Rebel Galaxy, which has tons of awesome nebulae that you can fly your spaceship through.

    Wonderful video, great info.
    I’ve been drawing for years - lots of custom calligraphy, tagging, abstract psychedelic stuff - fun, cool looking shit. Nothing insane, out of this world, professional work - rather just a skill that I’ve developed for myself.
    Coming across this video is like opening the door to a whole new world; tomorrow I am going to get ten different cans, some canvases, find the old newspaper stack, cut myself some stencils, and see what I can make happen.
    What type of material/paper would you be using for a super flat, clear work surface, as opposed to canvas? (Such as the material in this video).
    And -
    Would you clear coat the entire project at the end, as a finishing touch?
    I suppose that depends on what you’re going for as far as the finished product goes.

    • @AshSchultzArt
      @AshSchultzArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for checking it out and I’m glad you found something useful and inspiring!
      As for material: coated paper is probably your most inexpensive option. Think poster board, how it has that glossy side to it? Paper will just absorb the paint so it’s got to have that coating to it. Otherwise, anything else along those lines will do. You just want to be sure the paint doesn’t absorb into the surface you’re painting on.
      I recommend clear coating the entire thing. The gloss clear will make all the colors pop more vibrantly, but it’ll subtly smooth the painting, merge everything together in a way.

  • @MrListenerman

When I got home today I clear coated it and it instantly crazy cracked. I'm gutted. Would you know what caused it? I'm using rustoleom gloss, I did use a bit of clear while painting it cause it dried out, would going over it after using the clear while painting it cause this? Sorry for the long winded comment but any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @AshSchultzArt
      @AshSchultzArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the time of this video I was based in Las Vegas, but I’m not in Central Florida. I got the Montana’s prints at Dick Blick art store in Vegas, but they do have a website that you can order from. So your best options are checking local art supplies stores or ordering them from Amazon, dickblick.com or whatever else online you find them

  • @caroline1426
    @caroline1426 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know this sounds daft but I can’t get my star points with small lines. They always end up being long lines, is that the type of spray nozzle or just me and technique? X

    • @AshSchultzArt
      @AshSchultzArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Part of it is being able to just barely press the nozzle, but also keeping it close to whatever you’re using to help create the line. Close to the shield, close to the paper and just the slightest of presses on the tip. It’s a bit trickier with the fat tips on most cans now

      I wouldn’t say there’s a best, like with most things, cheaper likely means the quality sucks. I like using krylon, or even Montana. Rustoleum has some good color options, and works well, but I highly recommend that you experiment with what’s available to you and see what you like

    When you say warm up the paint what do you mean by that?

    • @AshSchultzArt
      @AshSchultzArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      To get a finer spray from your cans it’s best to warm them. Get one of those cheap $20 electric flat griddles from like Walmart and put it on the lowest setting and set your cans on that. Give them time to warm up. You should be able to hold the can in your hand and it feel warm. If they’re too hot to touch them quickly get them off the heat but that shouldn’t be an issue on the low setting while using them. Be mindful of the ambient temperature outside. Obviously in the colder months of the year you can increase the heat.
