At first, stretching was difficult for me, but I was persistent and worked mentally at the same time (just imagining stretching while driving or resting). With persistent work, the spasticity subsides very slowly. It is important to be persistent and NOT GIVE UP. Progress is sure to come. Have a nice week.
Yes! Thank you for sharing your experience and how you persisted through the challenges that can come along side the spasticity! I am genuinely so appreciative of you sharing your experiences, as I am sure your experiences will resonate with this community. That said, comment pinned :)
Thank you for the information. As a stroke survivor I have muscle tightness in my lower leg, particularly the tendons in/around the back of the ankle. I do stretch on an incline board mornings until the 2 legs feel the same. I don’t have a planar flexion spasticity as I walk, but I believe a true drop foot. That foot drop is improving slowly. That being said, when I practice putting weight on the affect foot- as step forward, step back, shifting my weight, the foot inverts. The ankle moves the foot towards the center. When I get to attempt #9-10 the foot begins to flatten. I have looked for a video that might address this 😊
I have had similar experiences to the previous poster. I am now 13 months post-stroke. I am almost addicted to stretching exercises. It now feels good to stretch ALL my muscles on my affected side. Every day I find I can do a little bit more with my affected side and it motivates me even further. Progress IS slow, but always in the right direction. Never give up! Good luck to all!
I have spasticity mostly on my left (foot & thigh) due to multiple sclerosis, no stroke. I can’t make a full rotation with my left foot. I mostly try to stretch, but I know it’ll never be enough. The spasms happen regardless of a prescription. I follow your tips & ms stretches/exercises from @MSWorkouts. Thank you 🙏🏽
Thank you for this video and for all the encouragements of other stroke survivors. I stopped physiotherapy since she said she does not believe in stretching and I did not learn there anymore. I will keep on stretching my calves and ankles. Thank God I have got my arm and hand movements back, by trying, learning, falling down, trying again etc. Ups and downs.
I love your videos I have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis for 20 years and in the last four years I have fallen so many times due to foot drop now my left side is weak and injured and I cannot rotate my left ankle or bend my toes So by not having any circulation, my foot starts to get darken and it’s cold and it burns at times I go to physical therapy and I work out at home as well, so I do weight-bearing on my left leg will my whole body I am on a walker because I cannot walk unless I have some kind of assistance because my core is so weak I basically I feel I am getting stronger I’m starting to have more good days than bad days. I am looking into eating for my blood type, But thank you so much, Tara ❤
Thank you so much Dr Tara Tobias for this wonderful explanation. I'm on botox as well as doing EMS also walking around 2 to 3 thousands steps everyday. Thank you so much for motivating me. I'll definitely increase the number of steps. Thanks again
Thank you mam for the video. My fingers of left hand are bend inwards and is difficult to open due to tightness. Can you please suggest some exercise to get back to normal movement of the fingers.
I am a stroke survivor and has been going on close to three years. I have curling in my toes. I do get Botox every three months to relax the muscles and the curling but in one of my toes I develop cellulitis and was told to have the tendon cut in the particular toe to relieve the curling completely. The procedure is done in office and takes only a few minutes. What are your thoughts on this?
I have spastic palsy due to damage to my cerebellum during birth. so I do not have good motor skills but I am looking for a way to loosen up my legs Cold affects my muscles. I found pilates is the best workout for me but I need to stretch daily to release my muscles. Can you help

I love the way you explain things. When I sit still even a short time, it seems like riger mortiss begins to set in.

This is my situation, Dr.Tobias, along with hemiparesis. Thank you for the heart.

It is scary how “specialists” just cut into people. There is a nice simple illustration with a TShirt in Katy Bowman’s book alignment matters I think.
