    A decade ago, I had a very painful heel and i had seen so many docs--one saying I might have a flat foot, another recommending me to buy special made shoes to solve the problem. Spent almost $1K on those recommendations. The pain recovered for a short while but then returned. Until I met an old British doctor, he told me straightaway by his experience that my heel problem was very likely due to stiff calf muscle. He got me to do a few calf exercises routine ( one of which is similar to the one you show) for 2 weeks. The exercises helped, and just after a week, the pain disappeared, and no more pain till this day. Hence, I am grateful you posted such helpful video for public good. Thanks!

    Thank you very much for taking the time to show us these exercises! My legs hurt so much that I could barely walk. X-rays show nothing! I started to do the first exercise cautiously about 2 months ago and do it frequently everyday - several times a day and now I can walk around the yard!!! I combined them with the exercise done on the bed and wil now add the ones you have done today. Very much appreciated!!

      Yes if it hurts we're doing something right, if you painlessly can poke at it it's an arthritis free area! Older people treated arthritis like a death sentence, how wrong they were!

      @@joseenoel8093er... not always. There is the sort of ache you get from using an out of condition muscle. Then theres the pain if you pull a muscle or tendon. I ran 100m some years ago and within days couldnt walk without excruciating pain. Tried stretching and walking to work through it.
      Turned out, due to an old injury a tendon from spine to sartorius muscle had torn. My stretching and walking were stopping it from healing. 😂😂😂😂

    Remedial Massage therapist for 40yrs here. May I add that in the calf stretch, sinking into a knee flex will help stretch the soleus muscles also (the deeper calf muscle). It's an odd one that horse riders use all the time and is great for foot stability when walking, running, etc.

    • @carolinejohn4537
      @carolinejohn4537 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Could you explain what you mean by "sinking into a knee flex" please

    • @BarbaraMurphy-rd2wo
      @BarbaraMurphy-rd2wo หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@carolinejohn4537 You see that Will keeps his knee straight which stretches the gastrocnemius muscle. Deeper to this is the soleus muscle (against the back of the shin bone) which, for me, gets tight when jogging and hill climbing. So stand in the stretch, as shown, then just flex the knee a little bit (as if wanting to touch the wall). It won't stretch much, just a little bend in your knee.

    In two months time my frozen pelvis released. I’ve been rigid and trapped in my own body for almost three years. I started with a 30 minute exercise class for seniors three times a week. The class included these.
    I went from being able to walk two blocks to walking two miles every day. I also went from lifting no weight to lifting seven pounds with each rep. In six months for eight different exercises. Thank you so much!!

    As always thank you Will‼️ These particular stretches (particularly the hip flexors) are just what I need. I’ve wondered why my gait and posture has gotten so strange and the low back and side pain I experience when walking. Now I know how to fix it (and the reason it got that way). Bravo‼️ My good friend who is much older than me in her early 80s is enjoying your videos I’m sharing with her, particularly the arthritic knee exercises. I was interested in the hip flexor exercises. I am 68 and am quite flexible as have hypermobility and was born with poor gait causing over pronation so always ensure I have supportive footwear. Have done exercises on and off for years now but have developed pain in lower left back and walking up stairs causes pain in outer thigh. Could be arthritis or my horrendous sofa which is constantly uncomfortable to sit on which may also be causing issues. I sit on a car seat on the sofa to try and lift my lower back as the sofa makes my back sink down.. So i will follow these particular exercises several times a day and see if there is improvement. Thank you so much your videos are so helpful.

    I have trained on and off for many years usually things like sandbags, kettlebells and Indian Clubs. Im 59 now. I’m out of practice for about a year now although I do hike once or twice a week with a backpack usually about 6 to 8 miles and sometimes wild camp. I’ve never been very flexible even as a youngster but as I’ve aged flexibility is something that is vital to try and maintain.
    I’ve followed your excellent channel for over a year now.
    One thing I’ve always been taught is to warm up the muscles before stretching. What is your view on this? Is it OK to stretch muscles that are not warmed up if done gently.
    Keep up the excellent channel very helpful for us ‘older’ folk

    Q. I've been doi g my best to follow some of your methods but here is my issue. Everytime i try to stretch especially lower legs, I get cramps. I have been taking Nuum and magnezium for about a year but nothing seems to work especially in morning. I raise my legs to sleep. Any suggestions?

    Is there a particular reason why doing the last stretch made me cough

    • @gabygibson8169
      @gabygibson8169 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Simple! Your thoracic cavity stretching upward, surprised your lungs to expand. Those muscles haven’t been used in years you just need to keep them moving. Lungs collapse with age, once muscles start getting weak they go hanging south… So with the upward stretching, coughing is possible

      … also your abdominals muscles need strengthening

    I am losing interest in your demonstrations. You put in too much (extra) details that they distract rather than help.

      Then go elsewhere for your instruction, quite simple really. The rest of us are very grateful for the clear instructions and demonstrations Will gives.
