I had a stroke back in March I’m still getting inpatient rehab these videos are excellent when I’m not in my rehab session so i still strengthen my body on my own to get out of this hospital faster. My left side is the affected side and it is so frustrating
So thankful for these videos I had a stroke six weeks ago and before I ever got completely diagnosed my wife and I found these videos online and we started doing these exercises even before they diagnose me because we could tell all the symptoms And so when I got to physical and occupational therapy They said that the fact that I was doing these exercises ahead of time really helped in my progression I had absolutely no use of my right side for several weeks in now that I'm back to doing the exercises I'm ahead of the ball Thank you again
Way to go! I had mine 6 weeks ago and today I stood up my myself using a hospital gadget but on my own for half a minute…I feel like I’ve won a school prize! Trouble is the physios will make media minute tomorrow and it hurt like mad!
Working with my 82yo mom (post ischemic stroke - 5months) and for both of us hearing your 'voice of authority' confirm what we've been doing her has been a great help - at least I now know my layman's understanding of the body is spot on. Of Sleep, Aging, Exercise, Diet, Myth, and Possibly Other Issues Lurking in the Text I do a different version of the hip extender exercise. Having had both a knee replacement and a hip replacement on the opposite leg, I find it helpful to keep strength and mobility in my intentions. You can figure out what I do if I just give a basic version with the differences from your method. First, I do a set of one hundred. This is done slowly at a comfortable rate, and without forcing any movement, but being steady and targeting range of motion with minimal effort. Second, I will start by moving my raised knees to the left side. When I normally get to the limit of my range of motion, it takes effort to get my legs over as far as possible. This is counterproductive. So, as I get about halfway to the stopping point where effort would be required to proceed, I start to straighten my right leg with a comfortable full extension achieved at the point where I would have been at the stopping point. This allows the weight of the right leg to assist in pulling the rotation a bit further without any straining, yet allowing a relatively maximal rotation, depending on flexibility. The key idea is to get there without the additional strain. Third, I keep the right leg extended as I come back up to a position where it is pointed as vertically as comfortable. Just before I get to that point, I lower the foot to get back down to achieve the bent knee position. Both legs are in the bent knee position when the body is aligned with the knees at their highest point. This part of the movement allows me to exercise that part of my torso that is needed to bring my legs back up to the medial position. As I continue on to the right rotation, my left leg begins its extension and the process repeats. I like to do this exercise without haste, and to some music of choice. Nothing too wild. I initially did the exercise your way, but eventually found it more helpful to augment in the above-mentioned manner. This offered greater range of motion in the movements with less effort and the added benefit of using the muscles that pull the legs back up to the neutral position. This seems to come more easily to me. At age 74, I have had no ill effects frome this exercise at all. It has helped my flexibility, something which is in slow decline for the entire body, and should be addressed for extended healthy motion capability. On a different issue of flexibility. Bending down to the floor to pick something up, putting on socks or shoes, and so on, can be a problem as one ages. When I sleep, I have generally been comfortable with my body in a straightened out position, as opposed to being curled up. Over time, I decided that it would be better to not return to the same position after each time I awake. This happens more frequently as one ages. So, I will alternate when I go back to bed, or just awaken, between lying on the left side, the back, and the right side. This allows a different internal dynamic in areas such as blood flow and movement within the lymphatic system. Once again, my procedure has evolved to where I curl up initially when getting back to sleep on the left or right side. This allows a natural, comfortable, and painless way to encourage my body to be able to bend forward while standing or sitting. The body may naturally get back to a relatively straight position during the next sleep cycle, because I do not wake up in the curled position. With this process taking place while I sleep, and without conscious effort, I am making it easy for my body to take care of itself while I sleep. I do find that I sleep better when I do sleep. Finally, I wish to use this opportunity to dispel a bit of mythology or common wisdom that seems to creep into modern thinking. The idea of eight hours of sleep in one steady session seems ridiculous to me. There was no evidence for a prehistoric time when humans have slept this way regularly. It was probably only when we were safe in our abodes, relatively well fed for the day, and among friends and family that we probably slept through the night. The myth of eight hours seems to be a creation of our ability to be used for work under the power of others. I sleep when I am tired. I can do that because I am retired. I plan for a fairly regular bedtime, then get up as soon as I am ready, which is about at the five or six hour point, and then take one or two half hour naps during the day when I feel drowsy. This pattern can be affected by my enthusiasm for various activities during the day, and some other factors such as how much physical activity I have managed to achieve. The goal here is high. This way of sleeping has proven to be of benefit to me in how I feel. The other myth that I wish to dispel is that of the paleo diet. Fruit and nuts is not how we got to a healthier lifestyle. One of my cardiologists, who has a wife who is a nutritional expert, touts that diet. He cites evidence that cadavers from long ago show little evidence of Plaque in the arteries. He does not mention that people did not live nearly as long as we do, nor that they were probably significantly more active on a relatively constant basis. There are probably other somewhat harmful but useful for certain industries myths that should be corrected, or at least reconsidered and placed into context; but I leave that to others, or perhaps when I have time to go into more depth. My expertise as a generalist and a black box thinker (industrial engineer) is like the Mississippi river at times - a mile wide and an inch deep, as they say. Please excuse any typos. They may or not be caused by my poor typing. I am to the point where I refuse to compensate for the questionable autocorrection benefits of computers, and the lag of wireless keyboards that exacerbates problems for fast typers. If I slow down to edit my work, I am engaged in a reasonable activity; but if I do so to correct my computer, I am not only endangering my train of thought; but I am playing into the hands of those who would claim that computers do everything better than we can. This was a good video.

2 months ago i had bike accident i got stroke on that time now i well but my left leg has become heavy please suggest me what should i do to get it normal
Wonderful video! I have a question... When you demonstrate an exercise on the affected leg, should we also do it on the unaffected leg, so both sides get the work? Or just the affected side?
@carolehiebert, This is great question! I'd encourage you to work both legs. You'll end up working on stabilizing muscles in your affected leg when moving the unaffected leg and visa versa :) Thanks for asking!
Thanks a lot now I can walk a bit but don't know if any obstacles come and one more thing is suddenly my knee pops out like I'm about to fall(it's like a jerk in my knee and don't know what to do
Thanks a lot for your excercises could you please tell me what is foot drop and how does it looks like and what happens if it is mid and a small request from your beloved subscriber who watches every video of your swhat happens if it is ignored
Because I have lower back issues, I have to bend the leg on the bottom so I dont strain my lower back. This allows me to do the leg lift without straining my back.
Hi! I had a stroke(hemiplegia, left side, 2007) 14 years ago but tho I have been working semi normally, i.e., I work full time, move around effectively, but awkwardly. I cant drive but can walk about 2 -3 kms at a stretch. My gait is awful, affected leg strength is weak and getting worse however hard I try. I am 72, in pain most of the time, but I dont seem to be getting near normal in walk and strength. I am determined to get back on a tennis court and a golf course. Can you help or suggest something? I mean exercises specific to my situation. I live in India.
I'm sorry you are having a set back. That must be very frustrating. Unfortunately, I can make any specific recommendations due to legal licensure requirements. If you have the ability, I'd talk with your doctor about the pain issues and setbacks you've been experiencing.

This leg exersice the way you do it is for normal person you don’t focus on the limitation that we all have yes you talk about it but you continue for a person with no limitations
Can you give some information on how to straighten a contracted spastic leg, that will only get to about 80 to 90 degrees and stops
Thank you very much

Great exercise, however 3 years into hemorrhagic stroke and I still cannot do even the slightest ankle inversion/eversion, what's your suggestion?
I wish I had access to these videos after my stroke. It's been 6 yrs now & I'm not able to do most of these exercises

Madam ask you how to fix a rotating legs
So beautiful and resourceful..😊 Thank you...
Because I have lower back issues, I have to bend the leg on the bottom so I dont strain my lower back. This allows me to do the leg lift without straining my back.
Excellent 👏 thank you 😊
@zoranpopovic, You're so welcome ❤️
can the patient be doing this passively? the patient lost control of the left side limb, both arm and legs
Very good 😊, like my, thank you
@jamilibrahim, So welcome! 😊
Could I use arm to assist knee bend in heel slides? THat is only modification I could come up with.
I'm in the same shape. 67. Living in Mexico. Just keep moving....Dr. Tara Tobias on TH-cam offers quality rehab videos, too (she's in Florida, USA)
Is it good for sci
