    What are the two buttons to reset the ice maker? Mine is a whirlpool side by side with ice button, light, lock, and filter reset. Thanks so much! I just subscribed!

      Hi there -
      Not sure about your particular model, but on my Maytag French door side by side, the ice maker can be turned off by holding temp and fast cool (two middle buttons) for three seconds. Then, to turn back on, hold those two buttons again for 3 seconds. Not a true reset but sometimes something like that to retrigger the action on the ice maker may help. Kind of like unplugging your fridge then plugging back in. Likely not a true fix but may unstick something if the system needs a bit of a change. Good luck and hope this helps!

    I have been trying to find a video on how to take the ice chute and the surrounding plastic out to give it a good cleaning. We haven’t used ours in a long time. Mine has mold on it and using a hot rag and dish soap is not working. I really want to disassemble it and give it all a really good cleaning. I’ve done the inside parts that was easy but I cannot figure out how to take the outside parts apart.

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That is a bit hard to diagnose or approach from the comments, but if you were able to get the whole ice maker out (e.g., disconnecting the cord from the inside) then being able to wash it / scrub it, or swap out the funnel could be done I would think. At the same time, with the mold challenge, not sure how good you would feel about that cleaning vs. starting fresh. Good luck and hope you got it solved!

    My ice maker makes ice fine, but has trouble dispensing especially crushed ice. It seems to get clogged somewhere. Hums...then clunk, Hums...then clunks, etc...when the tray is empty, everything turns and moves freely. Suggestions?

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just speculating here but that sounds like a dispenser issue more than a icemaker issue. For the crushed ice to work, the blade has to catch the ice then crush it I believe so it may be in that process. I have seen issues before where water freezes on the base of the dispenser and it causes the spindle to freeze in place making a clunking / stalling sound as well. Good luck - hope you figure it out!

    Just a heads-up, "dethaw" would be the opposite of thaw, just like unloosen is the opposite of loosen. Overall, as you stated, anyone watching this would have already tried all of these suggestions.

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep - slight misstatement there. Interestingly, a lot of people worry about taking the right steps (manufacturers approach) and some folks even try to chip the ice off to speed up the process with a pick or chisel. I think the water melting in an electrical appliance also makes people want to double check the approach to avoid a shocking surprise - haha! Appreciate your comment and feedback - going to try and strike de-thaw from my vocabulary!

    MZD2667HES ice maker not working. Freezer works fine, ice maker is just empty with no water flow coming in to fill it. Water dispenser works fine. With this being the case could still be the water valve? Your videos are awesome by the way!

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there - thanks for the positive feedback on the video! Yes - I had the same situation when I first replaced my water valve and it was the valve that was the issue. Water dispensed from the fridge but wasn’t filling the icemaker. Could be that. Could still be the icemaker not signaling for the water but I would probably bet on the valve if you aren’t hearing anything coming into the icemaker. Good luck!

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing the comment, Chris, and while I am not certain about the issue you are experiencing, I'll share a couple thoughts. I guess the good news is that it is harvesting some and then not. A couple approaches I would start with if you haven't already is fully removing the icemaker, disconnecting the wiring harness, and checking the ice maker to see if you have ice frozen at the top coming into the inlet funnel, or if there is anything odd about the way the ice is frozen in the tray. I have seen situations where either ice is frozen in the top, and it just needs to be thawed out and things will get back to normal, or I've also seen the icemaker isn't quite level and causes the "fingers" in the icemaker to freeze, causing the heating element not to be able to release the ice as it normally does, and the fingers stay frozen together with the ice, and can't rotate. Checking to make sure the icemaker isn't slightly sloped and the fingers aren't frozen together would be a good starting point in my opinion.
      There are some other tests you can run using a jumper wire if you want to research that to see if the icemaker behaves as it should when it gets the signal (careful / disclaimer - it is electricity so if you aren't comfortable with this type of thing, it may not be safe). Depending what results you are seeing, that may take you down the path of needing a new icemaker (if it is tempermental or not activating when forced) or you may find the issue is something else (e.g., resetting the icemaker in the fridge, defrosting, etc.).
      Good luck!

    i have a maytag pbf2255heb top fridge bottom frezzer, had a problem big ice chunks in tray, took ice maker out, had ice build up near line to ice maker cleared it out put ice maker back now i have no water going to ice maker, everything is pluged in and 3 screws attached, im thinking i may need new ice maker, but i would hate to spend the money if i don't need to

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey James - totally understand that. Nothing like buying something and finding out the issue is something else. Couple thoughts - though I am not a professional. If you are getting to your water dispenser that is probably a helpful sign / otherwise, a dethaw / reset of the fridge might be worthy trying or changing the filter. I would sometimes test the icemaker by putting water in the tray and seeing if it harvests. There is also a jump wire process that can help to see if the icemaker behaves as expected (careful with that as it involves electricity and wiring). Could be an issue with the fridge or valve not calling for water but often the issue is the icemaker itself. Good luck on the fix - hope this at least gives you a couple ideas of where to start. Amazon / Home Depot are good with returning things even if you put it in and turned out that wasn’t the fix if that makes sense. Just time and energy to deal with all that.

    Whirlpool. Came home from vaca to find frozen water in the bottom of the freezer and ice arm stuck half way up. Replaced water valve and Ice maker unit (in for $100). Jumper cables have no result (water or cycle). Where to look next? Seems like there is no power. Fuse?

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Klint - I would only be guessing but it sounds like may be some type of electrical issue. Have you tried to make sure there is a good wiring connection between the newly installed ice maker and the wiring connector? Could probably try some voltage checks to see if it is a power / connectivity issue, solenoid or something else. Good luck, my friend - hope you get it squared!

    The ice maker flapper on occasion will start opening and closing on its own. I have unplugged the frig and plug it back in, continues to do it sometimes I let it keep doing this and it will stop. This does not happen all the time just when ever it feel like doing it. lol

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, Sheila - not sure what would cause the sporadic arm raising and lowering unless it thinks the ice has harvested. Sounds like it may be icemaker related (vs valve or filter). Hope you got it solved!

    hummmm. to thaw, or dethaw? i wonder if dethaw means to make it freeze? thaw means warm it up and dethaw means make it cold! hmmmmm? I'm confused now.

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha - ok - that made me laugh and had to Google it…. Apparently I shouldn’t use dethaw in formal settings as it is a more of a non-standard word (debatable if a word at all since it is quite redundant to ‘thaw’). Not sure if TH-cam counts as a formal setting, but yes - I mean it the same as thaw or de-ice. Now maybe I will pay more attention when I use the word though. Thanks for the comment and feedback!

    we replaced the ice maker valve, it makes ice but won't drop it. dispenser is freezing. and throw water where the ice comes out. I want to cry because the lights went out and it looks like on the dashboard that the door doesn't close properly. but if it closes. 🥺🥺

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Sandra - sorry to hear about the ice maker troubles you are having. If it makes ice but won't drop it, could be a heating issue or something in the rotation part of the ice maker. Sounds like you may be looking at the ice maker replacement as next course of action. I couldn't really follow your comment on the lights going out / door closing, but hopefully you got that figured out. Most likely, the door closing / not closing shouldn't have too much to do with the ice maker, but good to make sure your fridge closes well in general.

    Water inlet valve?

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes - sometimes the issue is the water inlet valve as I learned the first time I had to repair my ice maker. In fact, my very first youtube video ever was talking about my experience and finding the water inlet valve inside the fridge behind the back panel behind the shelves. It is a bit of a pain repair but worth it if that is actually your problem. Hope you got your icemaker running again!

    I got a whirlpool side by side, problem is when use the crushed ice it gives crushed ice ALONG with white Styrofoam that most definitely is styrofoam..have no idea where it's coming from except from my ice box...

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow - that is a new one! Gotta ask - is it a new fridge and did you open the ice maker up to make sure that the packing materials are out of it? I would check the flow from the ice dispenser through the chute and see if you can see what is causing the styrofoam to grind. Would be very odd for styrofoam from the back of the icemaker to be getting chewed up in there but possibly the back of the ice maker is getting grinded somehow (there is styrofoam in the back of the icemaker if you disconnect the wire and pull all the way out)…. Good luck - odd one for sure!

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well - that does sound like maybe something in packing materials that didn’t get pulled out or something since it is new, so I would probably first look in the ice chute once you open the door and see if you see any styrofoam there than can be removed. Then I would pull the ice tray out (button on the side to release it) and see if you see anything in there). After that , I would probably go deeper into pulling out the ice maker itself and unplugging it from the wiring harness but hoping you find your culprit before you get to that stage. Let’s assume they didn’t make an ice maker that produces styrofoam on the crushed ice setting - haha!
      Good luck again!

    Help. Took the catch box or whatever it's called to clean. Funny tasting ice. All clean and shiny and put back in about 4 hrs ago. I've got 7 beautiful pieces of ice. I am the Lucy of Lucy and Ethel fame. This is today's dilemma. Help

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Marti - that sounds interesting. So you took the main icemaker catch tray out and put it back in and now it seems not to be producing ice, right? You probably want to make sure you didn’t push the ice maker arm up inadvertently when putting it back in there. If that is down, then it may need to just have a little time to produce ice since the cleaning. Funny tasting ice seems strange - maybe related to cleaning chemicals or if you changed water filters recently, but should clear up after a few batches assuming there isn’t something else going on. Good luck and hope this helps!

      I didn't use cleaning chemicals on the ice maker itself. The ice has had an off-putting taste to the point it made tea or water taste not too good. I just cleaned the catch basket with soapy water with a touch of baking soda. I believe it's a filter issue. And landlady just needs to help me a bit. One TH-camr demonstrated a reset that involved grounding handled pliers a paper clip and their was mention of electrocution and probably death. Lol. I did mention my Lucy Ricardo luck right? Pass the hot tea please 😱🔫. Thanks again.

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha - yes - let’s not get you too deep in especially if you have some of Lucy’s luck! Filter would be a good place to start and sometimes the municipal water can have adjustments that cause a change in taste temporarily but you would likely experience this across your other faucets and hear neighbors talking similarly. Also, if there is a water softener or RO on the house, that could need to have salt added or a tune-up. Hope the filter fix or the landlady comes through for you.
