    Please use an insulated wire for the jumper, with insulation removed only at the ends, don't fool around with a paper clip held by a plier....

    • @jamesconner3437
      @jamesconner3437 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Okay, but not really....As a retired electrical supplies store owner, either way here, an amateur is at risk ! Either way is also equally safe if you use reasonable caution. Insulated pliers are used all the time by those who understand what "electricity" , "insulated", and "hurt you or kill you" mean.
      If you don't understand HOW/WHY this could even be dangerous, CALL A REPAIRMAN ! This type of icemaker is quite reasonably priced to replace. It is old tech, not like the newer, ridiculously expensive ones being put in keep even pretty confident DIY people from trying.

    Thanks for saving me money. After taking the ice maker off because I thought the line was frozen, I still didn’t get ice. I assumed the pump went out. I came across your video and did this test. Turns out the it didn’t finish its last cycle. The water is now flowing and it’s making ice again. Thanks for saving the headaches. 👍

      I'm hoping this is the case with my refrigerator. Last night I found the lever wire had gotten stuck in the up position and had not come down automatically. This had happened before, and simply pushing it back down fixed the issue before. However, it didn't work this time, I found no ice this afternoon, and it has been about 20 hours or so already. I had no way of knowing if there was water flowing into the trays and this procedure allowed me to go through the whole cycle and I even heard the water flow into the tray. If the last cycle somehow did not complete, it would explain why I had no ice, and hopefully this will the issue.

    This was SO HELPFUL! After defrosting the refrigerator/freezer ( I was pretty sure from other diagnostic steps that it was frozen) having you so clearly show how to test the ice maker was so helpful. I wasn't sure if the valves would need replaced or the ice maker replaced (if the thawing didn't work) so learning how to test the ice maker and seeing that water filled the tray was a huge help. THANK YOU!!

    Super helpful. Thought I had a problem w replacement ice maker. Turns out it was just a poor connection between maker and wiring harness. This trick allowed me to quickly confirm the poor power connection was corrected and stable through a couple cycles. Saved me hours of waiting Thank you!

    Thank you for sharing this info! Our icemaker kept overfilling with water and leaking into the ice bin causing the dispenser release to freeze up and the bin to solidify as a single ice brick. I appreciate you pointing out the fill level screw. I made the adjustment and will dial it in to exactly the right water fill level.

    Worked like a charm. I was having issues with a frozen water chute. I thawed out the chute and cycled it as you showed. A little nervous with that whole electricity thing but I used an insulated wire and doubled up with some insulated wire cutters. Cycled through as it should and pumped water into the tray.

    Great video! We stopped using the ice maker on our 10 yr old Kenmore, pending installation of reverse osmosis water filtration line. In the meantime, we heard water dripping one night, which turned out to be falling into tray on bottom of refrig. I turned off the water line to ice maker. When I installed the new line yesterday from the filtration system, this morning, I found it had overflowed and turned into ice on tray underneath the ice maker in the freezer. I took the ice maker off and melted the ice in the mold and reinstalled. I tested resistance for the water intake valve, the thermostat and the mold, which tested correctly and reinstalled the ice maker. I just ran it through the cycle, as per your instructions. Couldn't hear the water flow in but the mold is full. Looking forward to tomorrow morning to see if everything works. Just subscribed.

      How far and which direction, did you turn yours for smaller or larger cubes? Another video said as you turn it, you can watch the hole directly to the left of that plastic screw and see a small hole in the metal move from it's centered position.
      I don't notice the hole moving on mine no matter if I barely move it, or if I rotate it several times. Watched the icemaker for many drops. No change in cube size at all.
      Want mine smaller, as the cubes are sometimes coming out as one long bar of cubes, causing some issues when later trying to dispense ice.

In my case, my refrigerator suddenly began to leak water, as if the valve had stuck (which is not the case), which makes me think that the control stuck the valve ... you could comment more on the screw What do you mention in the video and how can it be that it stays stuck and activates the valve continuously .... My ice maker was similar but a bit different, no place to insert the two ends of the paperclip. But strangely, when I opened the cover, the gear was slowly moving clockwise, I had turned the power off at the display for the water and ice bay in the french doors above (bottom drawer freezer). I had been having trouble with the cubes being too large sometimes, so I reduced the size as that may have been the problem in the first place. Anyway, it was not a very complicated process and I would have never considered checking that. Thanks, you were over a 1000 subscribers but I hit the button anyway. Thanks!!!

    The ice maker arm is hitting the back of the refrigerator.
    There was too much ice in the bucket when I looked and the arm was pushed up maybe it's bent?
    I emptied the bucket and now the arm doesn't raise all the way it taps and gets stuck on the back of the refrigerator thing so the ice keeps on going.
    I tried to take the arm off and the front piece came off but the back part should slip out of the little hole but it will not.
    Anyway I can't figure what part to bend back because it doesn't look like it's bent or uneven.
    Help if you can any suggestions.
    Thanks

  • @johnbaer1403
    @johnbaer1403 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    WARNING TIP: If you perform a harvest between T and H and leave it in too long, a lot of water will melt, and when if fills up on the end of the cycle you can end up with too much water in the mold tray and it may freeze up again on the next cycle! Be sure to try to empty some water out (I used paper towels to soak up an ounce or so out of the mold), so it doesn’t overfill. Once I did that, it worked fantastic next time. If your unit overfills with too much water the same thing can happen so adjust the fill with a clockwise turn on the fill adjuster.

It made ice for a little while. Then I trouble shoot it. Can't find any abnormalities. Motor will turn If I put 110v on it when I have the control module separated from the ice cube bay. I replaced the thermostat even though the thermostat with new thermo compound paste. The one I took out I believe was still good. Freezer is zero degrees. Thermostat is not closed. Cannot get motor to rotate by jumping T & H. I don't know what else to do except buy another whole unit. Only thing is I can't find any ice maker numbers that correspond to my refrigerator model number Whirlpool Estate TT21AKXKQ05.

    Very helpful, but have found my ice maker is not completing cycle, it's not kicking ice out without shutting the fridge off then back on. Suggestions?

    My ice cube maker will move the arm if I forcefully pull it up and the white teeth at the same time...to coax it basically. Once it returns to the ON position, it does not move again, but I can hear the gears. Any ideas please?

    "This is going to hurt you". And you know someone will still do it and shock themselves. Well, we've all been shocked once or twice before we learned how important it is to keep your fleshy bits out of reach of the angry pixies. They are not very forgiving.
    I'd go with insulated solid core wire, and just strip the tips. I even do that for low voltage applications, so I don't accidentally touch something else with it. A mistake on a low voltage thing, like automotive electrical, will blow out a fuse.

    So what if my icemaker doesn't have the test ports for the jumper wire?

    My ice maker stopped working on my Kenmore 10654582400 side by side. I bought a new Ice maker and Installed it with the existing wiring harness. I used the self-test jumper and the unit cycles on, rotates as it should, calls for water to the ice tray, and appears to work correctly but when the self-test cycle stops it doesn't activate again on its own. I checked the voltage from the front of the ice maker/water valve when the water is called for and it looks correct too 120v. Any idea what's causing the old and new ice maker to not cycle or rotate on its own? I also just increased the freezer temperature settings thinking that could be an issue, The ice looked a little clearer or wetter than in the past.
