Just commenting to say how helpful this video is. I used it once in 2017 when the original ice maker got fried and had to replace it then. I came back to this video again (May 2023) to replace it yet again from the same problem. Big thanks! 🙏
Thanks for this. very informative. How do you know that it's the ice maker thats failed and not something else like the control panel, or any number of things? More info on daignosing would be great!
My icemaker was frozen. Saw your video. Took me 10 min , plus another 5 to thaw our the frozen piece. Now it works and saved myself some cash. God bless you.

Thanks so much. This tutorial worked very well to help me remove the icemaker on our Maytag MFI2569VEW1 French-door model. The icemaker could not cycle properly because there was some ice build-up at the back of the unit. Once the icemaker was removed it was very easy to solve the problem. I only had two hiccups that I needed to figure out on my own: 1) Removing the trim tip: Use a flat-head screwdriver that is very narrow and be sure to pull the trim piece directly toward the front of the fridge after it has mostly released because there is another plastic tab/bracket at the very front. 2) Like another reader has mentioned, the electrical connector behind the trim was difficult to disconnect (a small detail skipped in the video). I used Dale's tip below and inserted a thin flat head screwdriver between the two connections on the widest side of the connector to depress a small tab holding the two pieces together.
Robert Great information I will add this in information in font to the video for others to see. Thanks for the input. . Robert Lengacher I found that the electrical connector is easy to disconnect if you just squeeze the middle of the front connector. This took awhile to figure out, especially in such a small space to work in. He needs to show all these details since they cause frustration :)
@@joshuairvin9434 Joshua. So did this fix an issue with the ice not filling? I always hear a pump filling the tray. Trying to understand this before removing it. Thanks in advance.

Great Video! Unfortunately I had the incorrect model, but I was able to cut the wires and rewire them to end up with the correct connectors. This video was so detailed that even after rewiring, I woke up and the new ice maker is now making ice! Great job (after the dogs stopped barking and the kids stopped yelling 😂) of being detailed!
Thank you so much for this!! I was having trouble with the ice maker creating plastic pieces in our water/ice. What I found was the ice maker was jammed up with a chunk of ice right at the water funnel, causing water to spill over, into the ice bin, and freezing ice cubes together to create ice chunks. Those chunks were grinding against the plastic bin and actually scraping bits of plastic from it, and eventually depositing it in our water. When I pulled it apart, I found the ice maker was completely filthy/possibly moldy, so I replaced the whole thing (not taking chances) and I was able to refer to your video multiple times! Thanks so much!

Excellent video. You're the only video I could find with my exact fridge and ice maker. I would just advise to change your title to Ice maker replacement, not repair. I don't want to buy a new ice maker. I want to diagnose my current ice maker and repair it before having to replace it. So the title isn't accurate. You had me take apart my entire ice maker only to find out that I needed a brand new ice maker in order to "diagnose" and "repair" my ice maker. Please disclose this at the beginning of your video so we don't waste time taking apart our entire ice maker for nothing. Besides that, great video. I love that you were actually in a real person's house with all the real noises of a healthy household.
Awesome. Thank you. With your “in home” tutorial I was able to fix my ice maker that hadn’t worked in 3 years. We have ice! Couldn’t have done it without your help
Much appreciated! I had no idea how to remove this unit. The only issue was the little panel that covers the wires and plug. That item has a slot in the front so that after you release it in the middle, you need to slide it forward to remove. Mine was stuck. After that, a little massaging got the unit out. Mine was a simple fix. Back in business. The contact point for the heater had arced and charred from losing good contact over time. Thanks again!
@@TylerHarms I have not gotten around to fixing it properly, but yes, still working fine. That particular heater connection gets a good amount of current. I need to create a much better contact point to handle that current load. Coming soon, other fix-it projects have priority atm 🙂
YOU ROCK! I watched the video several times & couldn't figure out how to remove the panel covering the wires! Reading your comment helped me! Push the tab down with the screwdriver while pulling the cover toward you. Worked like a charm!! THANKS!!!
Thanks for the help on the video. I mainly needed to take it apart because no water was coming into the icemaker. Knowing the tricks to disassemple was a big help. Turns out there was ice built up at the inlet to the icemaker on top. Looks like that will fix it and it saved me a repair bill.
Our ice maker stopped working. Thanks for sharing your experience. Maybe it will help since ours stopped working around the time the door was not completely closed for the better part of the day. Maybe condensation froze over somewhere. i will pull it out thanks to this video.

Thank you for posting the video. It helped out a lot to see how it is done. The hardest part was getting the wiring cover off. It took me 15 minutes and watching that portion of the video (0:58) five times to get it right. Taking the parts off the old ice maker and putting them on the new one was a breeze. I noticed you really have to push the ice maker assembly back in hard to get it go past the rubber water spout. There is no clearance between the top of the ice maker assembly and the spout, so you have to push it out of the way and it will return to its prior position. Keep up the great work! It is very helpful seeing someone who does it many times for those of us who will hopefully only have to do it once per refrigerator.

It’s not that great really. It’s just how to buy and replace a big ass part that may not necessarily be the problem. But it is a step forward for fool hardy repairmen.
Thanks so much for this video! My ice maker was an exact match. Only curve ball is that the new ice maker requires the wiring harness shipped with it, and replacing the old harness in the housing of the ice maker took some doing. I never would have gotten that side cover off without breaking it without this video.

Worked like a charm. Be careful removing the arm from the water receiver, as the blue plastic is quite flimsy. Mine broke but thankfully was not needed after the new part was installed.

Same here. I searched TH-cam but didn’t get this video listed and got it recommended 5 days later 4 days after figuring it out myself from watching other videos. It was the black timer part of the ice maker that had failed. (Burned out contacts on the heater feed)
This video is very helpful. My Whirlpool French door refrigerator had the same problem, no ice. The white plastic tape has a small hole. You do not have to insert your screw driver inside too much but just pushed it a little down and then pull it towards you (outside). Your refrigerator problem may be just the filter cup is blocked by the ice. After you resampling the ice maker, the problem maybe fixed without a change of any parts.

I eventfully had the ice maker replaced. The problem is on the ice maker that caused no water filling in. After the replacement of ice maker, it works after about 4 hours.

Fortunately my issue was not as extensive as this but a good video to start with. Hint the plastic connector for the wiring harness is not easy. Neither is removing the initial tab. I broke one clip and one piece of the harness connector. Fortunately both pieces covered up after repair. After removing the ice maker to take to Lowe’s as a reference for replacement I discovered something. Cubes in the mold were frozen and the mold agitator was frozen. About 30 minutes and some slowly tempered warm water to melt the cubes later I am back in business. Cleared cubes, dried out and replaced back to freezer tray. About six hours later I have some ice. Basket slowly filling but common with a Reverse Osmosis system and yes Filter needs to be changed. Thanks for the help and again fortunately my issue was not as extreme as the entire ice maker assembly. About roughly $125 NOT going to “The Man”/corporate America. I was lucky on this one but as they say I. My profession.....if it between lucky and good.....take lucky every time.....Unless it is a initial or recurrent certification exam/observation.

Was able to troubleshoot my ice maker ~ Thanks! Seems plastic bags dropped behind the crisper and caused it to over cool. The icemaker water receiver bucket froze solid. It was hard to get it out but after it melted a little I was able to pull out the unit and use a hair dryer to unfreeze the line and bucket. Works again and no expensive repair bill!!

I used needle nose pliers on the tab on the longer side and yanked towards me while pulling on the back connecter with hand, making sure not to disconnect wires. Sounds easy, but it wasnt. Took me 30 minutes just to disconnect that part. Hope that helps.
Our ice maker had quit working but I hadn't been able to figure out how to get the dang thing out. This video cleared that part up for me and I definitely found what was wrong. I pulled out the ice maker then opened that block box where to find a connection had exploded, or at least looked like it! Wish I had found this video earlier. Unfortunately you can't find the "W10377151" model number until you pull the cap off the front which you can't do until you pull out the ice maker!

I wanted to point out for your viewers that this also works for the Whirlpool model GI6SARXXF05 in case anyone has that model. I'm sure this is the same for quite a few models, but I can only account for that model and I wouldn't ask you guys to try to put a list on here. Just a heads up that the ice maker part number referenced in the video now subs to W10882923. It comes with two harnesses. Remove the harness currently on the assembly, choose the correct one to replace it and install it into the assembly along with the new ice maker.
Your repair was very informative. I was able to pull my ice maker and examine it. it appears to be fine. My problem is that every 3 or so days the ice hopper freezes solid locking the eject mechanism in place. I was able to catch the issue. I opened it to see water dripping from the ice maker into the hopper and over 3 days it's enough freezing to cement in ice the eject. I thought my ice tray might have a crack but I could not find one. I filled it up to the top of the ice nubs (what makes each cube a individual) and there was no leaking sitting on my counter. Apparently my problem is the waterflow into the ice maker is too long. We actually are not a high pressure system so it's not a pressure issue. I don't know if I've diagnosed this correctly but in laymans terms I think my problem is the water overfills the tray and it overflows and drops into the hopper where a block of ice is made every 3 days. What do you recommend I try next andd o you sell the parts? It's not free flowing, it stops filling but maybe it fills too long.... Dunno for sure.
Thank you very much Bill, glad we were able to help you. As for your issue with the ice hopper, our technicians answer Repair Help questions on our website www.appliancevideo.com - Be sure to share our channel with your family and friends, and like & subscribe.
Did you resolve your issue with the excess water into your ice maker? If so what did you come up with. I see you mentioned you do not have high water pressure. If the water pressure is not high enough it may not be enough pressure to close the valve after it opens cause more than the normal amount of water to come into the icemaker.
Just took apart my ice maker using the above excellent instructions, cleaned-off some ice that looked to be clogging a hole, put it back together and it worked again.

You seem very knowledgeable of this model, can you tell me why my ice will not break apart when they drop? Im getting about 4 to 5 pieces stuck together and as you can imagine they cant travel through the hopper like that
At the 2:32 mark you see him disconnecting a connector that come from the rest of the ice maker too the black box. Then at the 2:46 mark he's disconnecting another wire to the back of the black box. From here there are three screws that hold the cover on the black box, top left, top right and bottom right. Remove these screws, then carefully pop the cover off the black box, there are no springs are parts that are going to fall out. Look inside the cover, your going to see circuits that come from the connector you disconnected earlier. You will notice these little towers that are called knife connections. Think of them like a pocket knife blade when you closing it. Only these little knife connectors line up with pins that stick up out of the inside of the other side of the box still attached to the ice maker. The knife connector on mine was burned up making no connection with its pin. Simply take a 2-3 inch piece of wire maybe 16 gauge speaker size wire and solder it from this pin to the burned up circuit in cover. Reassemble and install back into frig, after I installed mine and waited a few seconds I could water valve filling maker with water. Like I said this is a design flaw and you will continually have to buy ice makers and replace them because of this crap. 12 hrs later ice maker is full again.

Thank you for the video tutorial, My ice maker stopped working months ago and fortunately we live next to a mini market and had the opportunity to get bags of ice. After watching the tutorial I was able to disassemble the ice maker and look for loose or broken parts, disconnected wires etc... I reassembled it after examining it and letting the ice that was frozen in it thaw. Once reassembled and plugged back in I shut the ice maker off and back on again then I heard the flow of water filling the ice trays. So i'm assuming whatever was wrong was fixed by doing a look over prior to purchasing a new unit. Again thank you for the tutorial.

Great video. I have a Whirlpool GI6FARXXQ07 about 1.5 years old. Having similiar issues with it not producing ice. I pulled out the ice maker. Nothing appears to be frozen on the refill tube however the tray is dry - no ice. Water filter has been replaced (ice was not working before that either). How do I know if the ice maker itself needs to be replaced or if I have a water inlet problem?

Great Video Thanks. I have the exact same Whirlpool Fridge and this week, as usual, I changed the filter (aftermarket brand), and the Ice maker stopped working. I followed your video and took it out but everything seemed OK. I think water is just now flowing into the ice maker even though water flows out OK from the dispenser. I also checked the water line behind the fridge, unscrewed the line and checked for water flow. No problem here either. What advise can you give me to check the water flow into the ice maker? Thanks.

You removed that electrical connector way to fast. I've been struggling with my connector for nearly 1/2 hour now and no tabs on it will release/disconnect it. I let the unit sit for another hour or so then found out that the tab had frozen together and would not depress until it thawed. Then the snap connector tabs were now movable. Tray then came out and found a block of ice in the water bin. After blowing with hair dryer, the entire unit needed to be blown warm to operate. The fan then cycled, and the elements all seemed warm (not frozen) Then I reassembled the parts back to how was and now we're back in business.

Excellent video that helped me a lot. I still struggle with troubleshooting the actual problem. I've now removed the unit as you've shown in video but do not see anything obvious "to me" to be the problem. From my research I'm gathering that I need to replace the ice maker itself. I've cracked ice cube trays in the hopper and it's been distributing the ice at the door. The water on the door is flowing so I assume I don't have a problem with water going into the ice maker. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a 2006 NPR with 16’ box. Can’t seem to get marker lights to work. They came in one day randomly. Then next day off again. I’m wondering if it’s a lack of ground. But I can’t seem to find where ground attaches to frame. Any idea??

Great video. I have exactly the same fridge. However, the icemaker module only slides out about an inch or two before getting stuck. No matter how much force, it won't budge. I have release the little locking lever and it does START to slide nicely and then resistance. Any idea what could cause that?

Hilary Neblett what I did was use needle nose pliers and it came out easily.. I had hell with it too.. I grabbed the tab tightly and pulled away (towards the right side) and it came off very easy..
Very old post, but I had the same issue getting it out. The rubber hose at the very top was frozen with ice. I used a hair dryer to melt it a bit, then pulled it right out.

The ice maker was working good until one day I was with some friends and the ice maker stop working I can hear when it moves to move the ice out of the tray but I think it’s no water going to it should I still have to change the ice maker like in the video it’s the same fridge ?????? Thank you

I have a Whirlpool gz25fsrxyy2 that stopped making ice. I put a thermometer in the ice tray and it was 17 or 18 degrees. The refrigerator and freezer were 38 and 0, respectively. There were very small ice cubes in the ice maker and it would not go into the cycle where the arms push the ice cubes out. Is it to warm near the ice maker?
RH It sounds like you have a water inlet issue. The saddle valve may be plugged giving low water pressure in to the ice maker. The ice maker should have 1/2 inch of water all across the ice maker. When you get small cubes they then get jammed as the ice maker goes into the harvest cycle causing the heater in the ice maker to stay on. Feel the bottom of the ice maker, just tap on it to see if its hot, if so your heater is on and either you have a jammed cube stuck or a bad ice maker. ***** I think the small cubes were simply due to being in the tray so long they shrank a bit. I ordered a new ice maker from your site, installed it, and now I'm good to go-with normal sized cubes. Thanks!

The water supply valve needs a signal from the ice maker to send it water. Once you disconnect the connector there is no way to fire the valve’s solenoid.
I have the same refrigerator, it makes lots of ice but it will not dispense the ice. I have to open the bin to get the ice. Everything else works fine, including the water dispenser. Any ideas on what is causing the problem would be greatly appreciated.

I have this very same unit. I dont know if I need the ice maker replaced im thinking mine might be something more simple. I do notice my arm lever does not go down to the make ice position. It also makes a whinding noise every hr or so... how much does the ice maker go for?
If you take off the front cover of the ice maker when the unit is unplugged there is a drive gear. Inspect the gear, if it looks like some of the plastic gears are stripped it will need to be replaced. This is a cheap fix, if the gear looks good replace the ice maker as a complete assembly. I have the same ice maker, but in my 12-1/2 year-old Maytag. The water dispenser dispenses water, but the ice maker does not dispense ice. I've replaced the water valves, yet still no ice. I removed the ice maker and inspected it. It is bone dry, which indicates it is not receiving water. I allowed it to come to room temperature to let it thaw out, just in case there was any small pieces of ice or frost clogging the mechanism. I reinstalled the ice maker and waited a few hours, but still no ice. My conclusion is the ice maker may have failed. Any solutions? Thanks.
What ice maker is needed for this freezer? Model we have shows WRX7355DBM. Ice make looks identical. Overfill arm gets stuck once it goes up. Have to press down for it to fill again. Thanks.

I have to do this too. Have no idea what part is really not working. I have a small red light with an x on the door of it. Wish I know what to order to replace what is broken. I get no ice or water. When this first start to happen water was just puring out the door. I heard water in my basement and it was water coming from the screw of the connections. Then that stopped and I don't know where to look for the issue. :(... I will change the connection in the basement this weekend and see that else to do. Can you tell me what the light is trying to tell me so I would know what to get to fix it I miss my ice and water?

Appreciated using the kids noises to make this a real life situation....
This made me laugh! But honestly, it's a very good straight forward video.

I only had two hiccups that I needed to figure out on my own:
1) Removing the trim tip: Use a flat-head screwdriver that is very narrow and be sure to pull the trim piece directly toward the front of the fridge after it has mostly released because there is another plastic tab/bracket at the very front.
2) Like another reader has mentioned, the electrical connector behind the trim was difficult to disconnect (a small detail skipped in the video). I used Dale's tip below and inserted a thin flat head screwdriver between the two connections on the widest side of the connector to depress a small tab holding the two pieces together.
Robert

Robert Lengacher I found that the electrical connector is easy to disconnect if you just squeeze the middle of the front connector. This took awhile to figure out, especially in such a small space to work in. He needs to show all these details since they cause frustration :)
Garrett Van Cleef so right you are I just squeezed it down and pop thank you
Thank you Robert, the pull it down AND forward instructions where what I was missing, thanks a bunch.

My new maker came with a new wiring harness but your video certainly got me over the much-needed disassembly information. Thanks so much!!

Where did you find this for $40??????
Same! I fought and fought with that panel and this video made it so clear. We're making ice again! Hope yours is as well.

Great Video. It's 10 years old and I can see people are still using it. Thanks for helping us kitchen mechanics!
It’s not that great really. It’s just how to buy and replace a big ass part that may not necessarily be the problem. But it is a step forward for fool hardy repairmen.
Matt - Great video...still relevant. Just replaced my ice maker in my Whirlpool refrigerator and it worked like a charm. Thanks for posting this one!
Thanks so much for this video! My ice maker was an exact match. Only curve ball is that the new ice maker requires the wiring harness shipped with it, and replacing the old harness in the housing of the ice maker took some doing. I never would have gotten that side cover off without breaking it without this video.
Thanks for posting this. The Geek Squad guy was yanking the ice tray out without removing that small panel on the lower left.

This is the first video I've seen for a model like mine. Very helpful
Same here. I searched TH-cam but didn’t get this video listed and got it recommended 5 days later 4 days after figuring it out myself from watching other videos. It was the black timer part of the ice maker that had failed. (Burned out contacts on the heater feed)
Great Video, it saved me $85.00. Thank you so very much!

Used the first 1:35 to remove the ice maker on my Amana AFI2538AES. Ice had the discharge arm (blue spikey piece in this video) frozen solid. Used a hair dryer to thaw it out and put it back in. Thanks!!

How do you disconnect the connector, im having a heck of a time with it
I used needle nose pliers on the tab on the longer side and yanked towards me while pulling on the back connecter with hand, making sure not to disconnect wires.

I had to switch the yellow wire and I spent $65.00 on the replacement part. Other than that savings savings savings. Thank you, bro!

Where did you find the replacement part for $65?
I wanted to point out for your viewers that this also works for the Whirlpool model GI6SARXXF05 in case anyone has that model. I'm sure this is the same for quite a few models, but I can only account for that model and I wouldn't ask you guys to try to put a list on here. You'd spend just as much time cross-referencing as you would repairing! Keep up the great work!

Just a heads up that the ice maker part number referenced in the video now subs to W10882923. It comes with two harnesses. Remove the harness currently on the assembly, choose the correct one to replace it and install it into the assembly along with the new ice maker.
Seems like every year the fill cup fills up with ice. This help me remember how to take it apart and melt the ice in the fill cup.
Thank you so Much.

I was hoping your video would show the diagnostics since I had my ice maker replaced under warranty a few years back and now it's not working again. But this time I'm not getting water to the water tray. Any suggestions? Do you have other video's to help diagnose the procedure?

+ApplianceVideo.com Just got the replacement part in today and swapped it out. Ice maker filled as soon as I popped it in. Thanks again!
1:38 is that entire unit available for purchase or must you purchase each piece separately?

Thanks.

Thank you, very helpful 😊
You removed that electrical connector way to fast. I've been struggling with my connector for nearly 1/2 hour now and no tabs on it will release/disconnect it. I let the unit sit for another hour or so then found out that the tab had frozen together and would not depress until it thawed. Then the snap connector tabs were now movable. Tray then came out and found a block of ice in the water bin. After blowing with hair dryer, the entire unit needed to be blown warm to operate. The fan then cycled, and the elements all seemed warm (not frozen) Then I reassembled the parts back to how was and now we're back in business.
Thanks for your response, and we are glad we could help.

I removed it by pressing down on the near side of the clip that is on middle of the wide side, and pulling.

@@yabwee2 clip was INSANE! Mine is still in hopefully I get it.

Great video. I have exactly the same fridge. However, the icemaker module only slides out about an inch or two before getting stuck. No matter how much force, it won't budge. Hi, I'm having the same issue with pulling out the ice maker as well. Were you able to figure it out?
Great Video. I have a Whirlpool GZ25FSRXYY2, but can not seem to find the exact correct part number anywhere. Do you have a suggest? I find parts on line, but hard to tell which is the correct. They vary $49 to $115. Sure want the correct part. Thank you for the video.

RH
It sounds like you have a water inlet issue. I think the small cubes were simply due to being in the tray so long they shrank a bit. I ordered a new ice maker from your site, installed it, and now I'm good to go-with normal sized cubes. Thanks!

Is everything in this ice maker replacement? I typically hear water filling. What in the replacement piece is fixing this? Thanks
What about the water line to the maker. How come water doesn't come out and run all over the place when you take it out?

Hello, Sir. Does the Ice maker thermostat get power from the Icemaker module or the Main control board?
Not a comment but a question. I can make ice however when I push the dispenser tab the ice is not moving in the tray. i dont think the arm in the ice tray is moving the ice along. I can hear the motor spin but no ice through the dispenser. Can you advise?

Don't know if you'll get it, but my problem was low water pressure to no water at all for a day or two. Your video helped me uninstall the ice box and clear the water tray from frozen water, but what will you do if there's water in the water input hose, will you defrost the entire refrigerator ? Thanks

@@Appliancevideo An update: By the time I cleared the water and frozen pieces, that ice in the output was already gone. I also forgot to thank you in my first comment, regarding the ice maker switch , that I wasn't aware exits, and now I'll know to switch it off with any water issues in the house. Two thumbs up !!
Hey matt, I replace the ice maker And it made one batch of ice and then the arm Put itself up in the off position period what's the reason for this? If I put the arm back down , it will make a batch and then the arm goes back up
So do you test the fuse first?
Before I replace the entire ice maker, how can I test to see if maybe it is the cycling thermostat that is causing the problem?

The icemaker just went out on mine after this round of filter replacement. Exact same style of icemaker in the top left corner of fridge. If defrosting and restarting doesn't work, I have the video saved to my playlist of watch laters and will likely order parts and reference this video.

***** Thanks Matt. It's borked. New Ice Maker Assembly ordered from the site above.
Where can I get a shutoff arm for this model??
I have the same ice maker, but in my 12-1/2 year-old Maytag. The water dispenser dispenses water, but the ice maker does not dispense ice. I've replaced the water valves, yet still no ice. I removed the ice maker and inspected it. It is bone dry, which indicates it is not receiving water. I allowed it to come to room temperature to let it thaw out, just in case there was any small pieces of ice or frost clogging the mechanism. I reinstalled the ice maker and waited a few hours, but still no ice. My conclusion is the ice maker may have failed. Any solutions? Thanks.
Replaced water valve, replaced water filter and now the ice maker itself. How long before it starts to make ice again?
