First time I tried Philippine food was on a stopover when I was in the Military, fell in love with it from that time there is literally a world of flavors- and the BEST is to eat with Philippine friends as the fun conversation contributes to a great experience!!!!!!
Wonderful video Mikey! I`m a Brit who is back home in the cold now. I love the Philippines and the food they have there is probably some of the best I have ever tasted in my life. Now I`m getting hungry! Enjoy your time there . .. Mabuhay!
I went to a Filipino restaurant for the first time last night and realised that I am at home in this cuisine because HELLO VINEGAR! No wonder I love my filipina sister-in-law’s adobo.
He did eat rice with sisig and laing haha. I could never eat any Filipino dish without rice. The flavors would be too overpowering. I've met some Koreans who said our dishes are too salty haha. Well it's because they're seasoned as partners for rice, that's why!
I'm in Brazil eating Weisswurst with Dijon mustard, Japanese rice and shoyu with chopsticks and watching a Chinese guy eating philipino goodness with a spoon. What a globalized world we live in...
Holy shyt, Filipino food looks bomb, only thing I've had that is remotely Filipino would be Jollibee. I need to get myself a holiday to the Philipines soon.
Filipino food is not that good. Plain and oily. They arent creative enough with spices. Compares to other Asians food, filipino food is the least fave. At least to me and so many non filipinos (or filipinos) They'd rather go to McDonalds lol
Sometimes I cook it, sometimes I get it from the local Filipino store who cooks fresh dishes every day. I don't know if it's a filipino thing, but I LOVE feeding people. I use food to show my love - and Filipino food, to me, is the ultimate expression of love - as it's the food I grew up with.
It's a Filipino thing. I live in Oklahoma, USA and I love giving my American neighbors Filipino food and they love the dishes! I remember when I was young in the Philippines, my mother and our neighbors would give each other a bowl of food for lunch. So even though my mother cooked just rice and 1 ulam (dish to accompany the rice), we always end up with 3 or 4 different ulam.
so if a foreigner asks me to describe the following: 1. Sinigang, "it is Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in a bowl!" with back up singers! 2. Pork Sisig, "it is your bride in your wedding day" and you with all your complicated emotions. 3. Laing, "a kick on the face" but don't worry... it will sooth you all over. 4. Adobo in Banana leaf, a heavenly mist that will make you "beg for mercy" .
Omg I love this! I miss it all so much. Great job pronouncing all the dishes! I loved when you said “oh that’s a lot of rice” 😂😂😂 Filipinos can never have enough rice 🍚
if you really want to try authentic filipino food. avoid eating in restaurants because most of the food their are cooked in a different way. travel to provinces and you will be able to eat an authentic filipino food.
The street food was always my favorite. And the vendors that have routes that bring food to the workers. There was one guy that sold a bowl of noodles in a shrimp broth. It was 5 pesos a bowl - at the time $.25 He'd hand you your bowl and stand there waiting while you slurped it down.
It's freaking me out that you are not eating rice with the sinigang or sisig. Like brahh I can't eat those without rice it would be overpowering for me

woah! finally someone who says filipino dish is underrated..coz its true filipino dish is not as big as other food like Thai, Chinese or even Japanese cuisine. Philippines is the melting pot of asia where different food comes and filipino's make their own version and make it a Filipino Dish. Thats why you can see alot of influence from Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian, Thai, and Spain.

I hope you try other dishes like caldereta, kinilaw na isda, lechon or lechon kawali or other Filipino food that you can actual have in Carinderia or eateries that costs less than a dollar per serving... And try the Filipino desserts or native snacks like turon! Anyways I love your channel Mike! awesome review!
Julienne Pacquing I would love to try foods from around the world but I don’t get the chance to travel much and if I do it’s only a few hours by car from where I live anything you can recommend that is really good and also somewhat easy to make or find the ingredients? I know this is probably weird so sorry In advance
What makes Mike above all food vloggers is he actually finish every meal especially if he likes the food and explain the taste in metaphoric ways that we can actually taste the food that hes eating..
One of my uncles is Guamanian/Filipino and I grew up eating this type of food.....Just can't get enough pancit, lumpia and adobo....oh and the shrimp patties...OMG...lol
Most of what you ate are the simpler types of food, almost half of what you got were just fried/grilled stuff. Lol. Get the more unique dishes. Try Bicol Express, Binagoongan, Kare-kare, Igado, Dinuguan, Menudo, Bopis, and Caldereta, but if you really want deep fry, try Lechon Kawali, that's my favorite. Try Achara since it seems like you love pickled veggies, that is our top appetizer. Try our Pancit Canton, Pancit Malabon, Pancit Palabok etc for noodles. I'd like to see you try street food, Balut is the most popular delicacy here but I bet you'd like Adidas (chicken feet) because you enjoyed the pig knucles a lot, but don't forget to try Isaw, and Betamax. Try Taho too, Palitaw, Suman, Turon and Banana Cue for snacks. Because you liked Puto-bumbong, you should try regular puto, Kutsinta, Ensaymada, Leche Flan, Royal Bibingka, Yema, Maja Blanca, Polvoron, and Pastillas. Halo-Halo is mandatory during a sunny day, you'd regret it if you don't try that after a long walk under the sun, also try Buko Salad.
Wow, thanks guys, I didn't know people would like my comment... So I edited my comment and added more items in there. I forgot to list down Desserts and a few other things so I added them. :D
Mike, you gotta try going to Pampanga, the culinary capital of the Philippines. There are alot of good places to eat here. For street foods, I recommend the street foods of Baguio City. Their night market is something you shouldn’t miss if you go there.
What are your favorite food spots in Pampanga? The night market in Baguio City sounds awesome!! Is it mostly savory foods or do they also sell desserts and fresh fruit?
Dyan Tongol pampanga is place of lazy and gamblers. They would even chase u until u run out of money. Credit grabbers for being culinary capital and yet their food sucks. Not even a dog would eat it.
Jacqui Alvendia Baguio boy here. The street food during the night market is the same as food you can find anywhere in the Philippines, though probably what you'll find unique are congees and noodle soup coz of the cold weather. Other than that, you can also find cooked viands.
hell nahhh tickets to go there are expensive af D; that's why ive only been there once after more than a decade of living in the US @_@ but i get to go again this year so yay ^_^
Great videos. I almost cried when watching. My wife was Filipina, she died from cancer earlier this year. She was an amazing cook. We go to many Filipino party's where there is many types of food, but I have to say very few could beat the dishes my wife made. I wish she could have seen this video.
I can't believe you visited Philippines and not try Lechon! Its not about tasting it but the whole process of preparing, cooking, serving and tasting it has all the filipino culture surrounding it. It is an experience you can't miss! I went to Cebu with my family fir a holiday, great beach and so much historical sites. And the locals are really prideful when it cones to lechon
We just did a video on Filipino Chicken Adobo to get the word out on Filipino food! It's so underrated, the flavors are so incredible!! Amazing video guys really awesome job!!
Filipino dishes are always paired with rice and are typically served family style. That's why some dishes seem "too" flavorful. It's better with rice haha
First tip to enjoy Filipino food, at Manam you should eat your sinigang pork soup with steamed rice, and sisig paired with steamed rice as well, and Laing must DEFINITELY be accompanied with a spoonful of steamed rice with every bite...otherwise its just too sour or too salty just eaten on its own.
Anyone have any good Filipino recipes? I live in Iowa, USA and only half Filipino, so I'm totally jealous of you being there! My father passed away& my Filipino side doesn't really talk to me anymore and I intensely crave the food! I never got taught how to make any, but I want to start making some for my daughter. Only have made puto🤔😍☺
A very easy recipe to make is Chicken Adobo. This is suppose to be the national dish of the Philippines. The ingredients are ones you should be able to easily find in your local grocery store: 6 x chicken thighs, 1x largeonions, 4 x large potatoes, 2 tablespoons vinegar, 1/4 cup soy sauce, black pepper, water and 2x bay leaf. It's cooked down from a soup to a stew and served over steamed rice. Every grandma in the Philippines has her own version of this dish. This is the one I know. (edit: garlic would also be good in this recipe) In a stew pot, sear the chicken thighs in the bottom of the pot with butter and vegetable oil. Don't try and cook them all the way, you just want to brown both sides and get some brown stuff built up on the bottom of the pot. Remove and set aside. Dice up a large onion into the pot and saute in butter or vegetable oil until soft. Peel potatoes and cut into large pieces. You want to peel them because you want them to soak up all that salt from the soy sauce on all sides. Put the potatoes and chicken in the pot with the onions. Add soy sauce, bay leaf, black pepper, vinegar and stir it all together. Add water until the contents of the pot are barely covered. Bring to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer. The HEART of this dish is the balance the taste of soy sauce and vinegar. It should have a hearty flavor so you will have to adjust the amount of soy sauce to your taste. Just be careful of adding vinegar because a little goes a long way. I've made this with fancy vinegar and I've made it with the vinegar you use to clean out your coffee pot. Some recipes also use a little sugar but I don't. You want to cook it until the potatoes are soft and have soaked in that soy sauce. Maybe an hour or two. You don't want mushy potatoes. My version is a little soupy and I like to serve it over steamed rice. Good luck!
Not always though. There are also times that taking an uber/grab you'll have to pay double than taking the taxi even with additional tip. Like paying 400php when its only 200php in a regular taxi or paying 600+ from NAIA 1 to Valenzuela when it only cost 400php in a taxi at midnight. But yeah, for a foreigner it is much safer to take the uber/grab wherein the price is fixed. Riding regular taxi can be like a Russian Roulette but if you know exactly how much the fare cost and the prices in a particular time of the day, you can choose which one to ride to save money
I've been watching your videos for sometime now but i gotta admit that i like you better than the other bloggers. I like the way how you make joke comparison about the foods you eat its humurous but sensible. Ive been wishing you'd visit Philippines and yet u did and thank you for appreviating our cuisine. Except that we like rice more than noodles hehe! God bless and more successful blogs to come...
DUDE!!!! Your video, this exact video playing right now inside of a Gerry’s restaurant at 21:07 PH time here in Boracay station 2 as of today 26 September 2019. LOL! Message me for the picture!😄😁😋😎
You finally made it to the Philippines, my dude! Been waiting for this one for a loooong time! Next time, you gotta try pancit canton, turons, and if you liked the pata, you'll LOVE lechon kawali!!!
A mom and pop place near us sells and delivers this dish. You have to order a day ahead though as they receive a huge volume of orders especially during peak season (holidays and graduation month) plus the meat also needs to be marinated overnight. Cost about $8.5 dollars give or take. Always arrives piping hot, meat is always tender and juicy and the skin is always crispy, comes with the a cup of the dipping sauce too. Gdamn I'm salivating just thinking of it.
Puto Bumbong isn't ube flavor. It is only colored that way to make it appetizing. It is just plain rice flour, steamed in a bamboo tube. That's why you don't taste the ube. 🙂
we Filipinos love our pork. I'm worried about your blood pressure. in the Philippines we call those greasy foods as "putok batok" translated to "burst nape" as a caution that these foods as extremely tasty they are, could not be friendly to your blood pressure. 😊
we really miss lechon our next mission when we visit philippines again, we would love to try lechon in cebu. We have heard that lechon in cebu is the best in philippines 😍
OMG... i want crispy pata NOW!!!! ... thanks for featuring Filipino food.. its one of the most underated cuisines in the entire of Asia. more people should try Filipino food.
i'm a filipina. local of rizal province, near manila. the food you tried in restaurants are full of taste enhancer, MSGs. we once tried food in gerry's grill and we never been there again. pardon but those are not the real taste of filipino food. the name, yes. but the taste? i doubt it. the real sisig gets it creaminess from pig's brain. nowadays they use liver puree and mayonnaise. restaurants tend to fry the pig's cheeks and ears for sisig but the real sisig should be grilled in charcoal. you should try to visit some filipino home, ask the local to adopt you for breakfast, lunch and dinner in areas like rizal, malabon, laguna, batangas, bicol, cebu, iloilo, davao. that's the only way you can taste traditional filipino food. by the way, when we say traditional filipino food, should be masarap and mura (delicious and cheap)
I'm half Filipino from my mom's side, born and raised here in the America, and growing up, my brother and I were raised eating native Filipino dishes. I love them.
Angel Baker Aww thanks! We sure can, however, I could never be as good as my mom or my older sisters. You you know what they say though: mama always cooks best!
The pork Adobe rice wrapped in banana leaf looked AWESOME!!! I must try it there too! By the way the puto bungbong didn't taste like ube coz its just white sticky rice colored purple. More authentic version would have used black sticky rice which would have that distinct black rice flavor more reminiscent of ube flavor that would be a very rare find among the cheaper commercial puto bungbong sellers or more expensive restaurants even. They just don't make Pluto bingbong like they should anymore, with black sticky rice or actual grated ube mixed in.
Damn Mike! You did it again! I love to eat pho. It's like a mistake watching this episode. I threw my pho on the wall and yelled out "I want food from the Phillipines!" Lol j.k. good eat brother. Biggest fan here!
I love the way you describe our food. 😂 It is poetic! Listening to you describe them actually makes me fall in love with the food you are eating. Thank you for sharing your experience. 😍

Finally someone who actually eats the TRADITIONAL Filipino food! Glad you liked it!
Julienne Pacquing I would love to try foods from around the world but I don’t get the chance to travel much and if I do it’s only a few hours by car from where I live anything you can recommend that is really good and also somewhat easy to make or find the ingredients? I know this is probably weird so sorry In advance
JennaTellCuteCrazy97 you may check on TH-cam how to cook Adobo
You get it Mike! Filipino dishes should always be eaten with rice!!
What makes Mike above all food vloggers is he actually finish every meal especially if he likes the food and explain the taste in metaphoric ways that we can actually taste the food that hes eating..
I love how he actually say the name of the foods and didn't try to translate it in English.
Jjoy laguna I agree!
sukoru reonhato hahaha I caught that too 😂
One of my uncles is Guamanian/Filipino and I grew up eating this type of food.....Just can't get enough pancit, lumpia and adobo....oh and the shrimp patties...OMG...lol

I've never heard someone describe sinigang like that before. Having eaten so much of it, it's as if you brought the dish to back to life 🙏
Same for the sisig description 🤣
I've replayed this video for the nth time and you're absolutely correct.
It's a good start for the Philippine series with the restaurant recommendations.
RenzXVI best comment so far 👏
OMG, yes!!! Especially Bicol Express. It's as Pinoy a Pinoy can get.
This right here
Wow, thanks guys, I didn't know people would like my comment... So I edited my comment and added more items in there. I forgot to list down Desserts and a few other things so I added them. :D
RenzXVI yeah baby!!
"It's so soft like it probably cry in hallmark commercials" LOL
Hilarious, he's got a way with words.
Poor @ happymoments. Betterluck next time.
Baguio has some nice foods! Been there few times. ^_=
My dad is Filipino but I’ve never gone to the Philippines and I want to go more than anything before
John Paul wer u from paul?
John Paul
It's really affordable, especially if you have family back there.
hell nahhh tickets to go there are expensive af D; that's why ive only been there once after more than a decade of living in the US @_@ but i get to go again this year so yay ^_^
lol i spent my childhood there so im not completely oblivious about my roots :)
ineedahandshake better than I can say
Great videos. I almost cried when watching. My wife was Filipina, she died from cancer earlier this year. She was an amazing cook. We go to many Filipino party's where there is many types of food, but I have to say very few could beat the dishes my wife made. I wish she could have seen this video.
That's so sad were sorryyyy
I'm so sorry about your wife :(
"...this thing is so soft it probably cries at Hallmark commercials."
I'm totally stealing that line...
Cebu is the spot for lechon!😋
Joanna Lynne Cortina He ate Crispy Pata.. almost the same thing. He had a lot of pork and vinegar.
Lechon is Cebu's signature 😊
Joanna Lynne Cortina he try it two weeks ago in cebu he upload new video

You should try and cook pork sinigang, asado(pork),mechadong baka(beef),lenggua sarsiado, sarsiadong isda, pansit palabok.
J-Mac's Amateur Kitchen
...as opposed to Nigerian chicken adobo?
Hahahahahahha sal*v*t*ng,ra**way Ako!!!!
that fork they gave you was a serving fork lmao hfhdhhdhf
ahahahaha thats what i thought
Hahahhhahaha Yes
Filipino dishes are always paired with rice and are typically served family style. That's why some dishes seem "too" flavorful. It's better with rice haha
First tip to enjoy Filipino food, at Manam you should eat your sinigang pork soup with steamed rice, and sisig paired with steamed rice as well, and Laing must DEFINITELY be accompanied with a spoonful of steamed rice with every bite...otherwise its just too sour or too salty just eaten on its own.
Babala: wag panoorin nakaka gutom haha
adolf Hitler true that
Wag panuorin pag gutom ka.. baka makain mo ung tv o tablet
adolf Hitler oo nga HUHUHU
Bawal to sa pg o patay gutom
hahahahaha sobra
The fact that you can eat an entire table's worth of Filipino food with a single cup of rice is inspirational.
Oh my god. This is what I've been waiting for 😍😍
Same, Finally
Anyone have any good Filipino recipes? I live in Iowa, USA and only half Filipino, so I'm totally jealous of you being there! My father passed away& my Filipino side doesn't really talk to me anymore and I intensely crave the food! I never got taught how to make any, but I want to start making some for my daughter. Only have made puto🤔😍☺
V- Lopez try panlasang pinoy youtube vid
Jerri Antepuesto Thank you, I'm looking it up now👍
V- Lopez are there Asian grocery stores near you?
R O A couple, very few though. My Lola used to take me to some when I was young.
(edit: garlic would also be good in this recipe)
In a stew pot, sear the chicken thighs in the bottom of the pot with butter and vegetable oil. Good luck!
Mike just take uber and grab. Don't take the taxi in manila. They will rip you off big time
Even filipinos are being rip off by those taxi drivers in manila. The taxi fair would increase 10folds even if you are a filipino.
klark martinez - PREACH! That is so true.
My favorite item at Gerry's Grill....Blue Marlin Steak
I agree!
Strictly Dumpling is the best food review that I have encountered. Mike is the Jackie Chan of food encounters.
" its like seeing your dream girl in a wedding gown on your wedding day!" damn! That sums it all up!😁

Oye!
All i want after watching this video is that pig foot. Thing looks freaking incredible
The pork soup, the squid and the rice & pork in the banana leaf are the ones I'd go for.
With beer or scotch whiskey, it is to die for
really good pig's feet is delicious :)
eat it with beer and make sure u have life insurance
A mom and pop place near us sells and delivers this dish. You have to order a day ahead though as they receive a huge volume of orders especially during peak season (holidays and graduation month) plus the meat also needs to be marinated overnight. Cost about $8.5 dollars give or take. Always arrives piping hot, meat is always tender and juicy and the skin is always crispy, comes with the a cup of the dipping sauce too. Gdamn I'm salivating just thinking of it.
tangna sinubo yung buong labuyo hahahaha
Aries Santua 😂😂😂
Aries Santua what?
Yun nga una ko napansin! Siguro may cut ito
Aries Santua kung chili lover ka kayang kaya mo isubo ung buong labuyo like me
Ranger Danger got daym!!!!!
OMG I lost it when you said the calamansi being an over achiever.
Same🤣😂
Puto Bumbong isn't ube flavor. It is only colored that way to make it appetizing. It is just plain rice flour, steamed in a bamboo tube. That's why you don't taste the ube. 🙂
True that. Traditionally it's glutinous black rice.
Actually yeah it's made of a black glutinous rice so that color is natural, if done traditionally which i trust Cafe Via Mare does
It would be awesome if they add real ube in puto bumbong... I'd experiment on that.
Paul Timothy Lavado
True , he should’ve tried cassava cake instead
We sometimes use violet rice
You made me homesick 😂. I'm not filipino but my wife is. My heart is there for sure.
I wanna try that tamarind soup with pork and veggies.🤤🤤🤤
you should eat that with steamed rice.. if not you'll just find that too sour.
I like my sinigang as sour as possible! The more sour, the better! Yum yum!
You should probably eat that😍 it is super good!.. It is good for cool season
That tamarind soup is so good trust me
It's awesome with a rice too ☺
He just ate that chilli like a boss😂
*Manong. Highblood nyo po. Ingat.*
Peter Griffin blood pressure boss!!
Kumain Naman daw sya ng bawang dun sa sisig ahahaha
actually sa ibang asian cultures...healthy ang pananaw nila dun. like koreans find our bulalo medicinal.
Malakas yan si Mike
@@Mina-hq4fb HAHAHAHAHA
we Filipinos love our pork. I'm worried about your blood pressure. in the Philippines we call those greasy foods as "putok batok" translated to "burst nape" as a caution that these foods as extremely tasty they are, could not be friendly to your blood pressure. 😊
lol our last upload prank drinking mouthwash pranking our filipino mama.....
we really miss lechon our next mission when we visit philippines again, we would love to try lechon in cebu. We have heard that lechon in cebu is the best in philippines 😍
Raymundo Espedido ,also we call it “killing me Softly”
Divert Living It is. 😁
OMG... i want crispy pata NOW!!!! ... thanks for featuring Filipino food.. its one of the most underated cuisines in the entire of Asia. more people should try Filipino food.
This guy is so poetic when reviewing food.
i'm a filipina. local of rizal province, near manila. the food you tried in restaurants are full of taste enhancer, MSGs. we once tried food in gerry's grill and we never been there again. pardon but those are not the real taste of filipino food. the name, yes. but the taste? i doubt it. the real sisig gets it creaminess from pig's brain. nowadays they use liver puree and mayonnaise. restaurants tend to fry the pig's cheeks and ears for sisig but the real sisig should be grilled in charcoal. you should try to visit some filipino home, ask the local to adopt you for breakfast, lunch and dinner in areas like rizal, malabon, laguna, batangas, bicol, cebu, iloilo, davao. that's the only way you can taste traditional filipino food. by the way, when we say traditional filipino food, should be masarap and mura (delicious and cheap)
One of my favorite cuisines! As you say, soy, vinegar and spices along with pig and banana leaves. I'm glad you got to experience it.
I hope everyone has a blessed day!
Thank you =)
VCG Construction Thank you! Likewise~
you made our day !:D
I'm half Filipino from my mom's side, born and raised here in the America, and growing up, my brother and I were raised eating native Filipino dishes. I love them.
Waaaaaah! It makes me happy you’re loving Filipino food and certainly cannot wait for you to try some of our Pinoy street food. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

Aww thanks!
We sure can, however, I could never be as good as my mom or my older sisters.
You you know what they say though: mama always cooks best!
Angel Baker oh I can cook pork adobo and sinigang for you. Just let me know.
Your mama is gay sorry man
Your currently no.31 on trending and also i'm glad you like our food ❤
The pork Adobe rice wrapped in banana leaf looked AWESOME!!! I must try it there too! By the way the puto bungbong didn't taste like ube coz its just white sticky rice colored purple. More authentic version would have used black sticky rice which would have that distinct black rice flavor more reminiscent of ube flavor that would be a very rare find among the cheaper commercial puto bungbong sellers or more expensive restaurants even. They just don't make Pluto bingbong like they should anymore, with black sticky rice or actual grated ube mixed in.
Thank you very much for visiting the Philippines.Nice reaction.More reaction to Filipino foods please.Thank you.
God bless.
