Nice work! I have refitted a Federal JetStrobe housing with all LED modules, they are dual color, one row amber the other row blue. Takedowns and alleys are standard high output MR16 LED spots at 12v and 6000°K for a blue white light. Since there is plenty of room within the housing as to height I have incorporated a third row of amber lights to the rear for use with a Federal Signalmaster. The interface to control the main light bar is something I built based on a PIC micro controller similar to what was used in the early Smith & Wesson 911 light bars. The plus is that it doesn't have the problem of scrambled memory like the old Smith units. I have incorporated transient protection on all of the IO lines. Love recycling and up cycling older equipment. I find that the older FS Jet series light bars do not create a lot of wind noise as some of the newer blunt nosed thin bars. Yeah they are not as stealthy but without the old color lenses and clear LED's one doesn't quite know the color of the bar until its activated and yes there is a sequence one must go through to get it into Blue mode and a dual use switch brings it back to amber. This was a proof of concept bar for an agency that does mainly undercover investigative work.
Thank you for the video, I have been in contact with Whelen engineering about upgrading my liberty Lightbar and they told me it could not be performed because it would cost me too much. I would be better off to buy a new one from them, I would really like to find out if I can upgrade my lightbar?
Hey I need some help I just picked up a used NJ Passaic county Dodge Durango with this light bar attached to it and I wanna upgrade the halogen seach lights and alley lights to led your video was very informative of helping me disassemble it but I don't know where to get the parts
I have a loaded lightbar (14 amber LED modules). Can I buy 2 more amber LED modules from you & swap out the 2 halogen takedown lights or is there no more plug-ins for more LED modules? Thanks.
I've never really figured out why they still use aluminum or steel frames for full size lightbars. Weight means reinforcement of the roof, added weight can use more fuel, and then there's shipping costs. So why haven't manufacturers switched to a poly framework?
Hey my Allys and takedowns are gdim and ones going out,i would love to purchase this kit but i can't find it on the Sirennet website dou you have a link or part number? Also in Oregon about 30min away if that helps, Great work! Thank you guys!
We're going to check with Whelen Engineering to find out if the LED Take-down and Alley lights for an SX Liberty are still available. We'll get back to you.
After checking into parts, the 12-LED Hi-Intensity Take-downs are no longer available. LR11 Take-down and Alleys can still be ordered but they do not have the necessary brackets to mount them in front and side positions [it's really must a replacement light assembly only now]. You might try eBay for full kits with the mounting brackets, otherwise the LR11's won't be much good. Sorry we can't help more with this.
So the LED alley lights are held in place by the top, not secured by fasteners like the old halogens? I'm getting ready to retrofit one of these bars myself.
If you have the "New" end-caps, that do not have the Alley window, you can still successfully install the SPALF1 LR11 Kit. The only end-cap in the Liberty family that will not work is the end-cap option that had both an MR11 alley and TIR3 Light-head mounted to it. You would have to fully remove that part to add the LR11 Kit.
Yeah, I'm gonna bring this one back from the dead... Now, I'm working on rebuilding a Liberty and converting it to WeCan. When I got it, it wasn't in the best condition (still isn't), but I'm going to be converting the takedowns to LED. With the LR11 alley mounts, do I need standard or extended length LIN12 corner modules? I feel like standard would leave room for alleys and extended would be the option if the bar didn't have alleys. Is that correct? First solo rebuild, plenty of experience with emergency lighting, but mostly UC/unmarked installations, so no lightbars. Thanks for any insight!
With the switch over to LR11 alleys, you can use the extended 12 diode corners... they fit perfectly and just enough space for the LR11's. Or you can indeed stick with the shorter corners.
The short corners will have a gap of about 1.25" on each side. If you can, the 12 diode extended corners would be a nice upgrade for side visibility :)
The harness is no longer available from Whelen Engineering, and we don't have any left in stock, unfortunately. Best places to search this out are eBay and elightbars.org.
I am in the process of rebuilding an old Edge lightbar and converting it into an all LED Freedom bar. I am currently looking for a Freedom Power Supply to begin with.
+JAGExecutiveServicesInc You would actually need a Freedom Bar I/O Board if your doing an LED conversion. Also, there are different I/O Boards- The are WeCan control-Boards and standard low-current switching control-boards.
+JAGExecutiveServicesInc Unfortunately not. We'd suggest that you contact Whelen Engineering for the WeCan parts information. They can be reached at- (800) 294-3536. Thank You.
If you have a DUO color lightbar with White secondary color, it's just a matter of reprograming. Otherwise, you will need to remove the Red and Blue modules and replace them with White. eBay, elightbars.org, and other third-party sources would be the best places to look. The light-heads for first-generation Liberty lightbars have been discontinued by Whelen Engineering.
+Henri Beaudoin The Part Number of the I/O Board would help determine what it is set up to run. Could you please tell us the long digit Part umber on the Board itself? You could also check this with Whelen Engineering if you'd prefer.
It's a bit of a process and a lot of new Parts, but it can be done. You may want to consider a new Liberty II platform as it was a lot of great and new benefits.
+SIRENNET I've already upgraded the takedowns and alleys from halogen to new LR11s. The Patriot lightbar came with a 6 Head LED TA when i bought it online.
+Jeff Bent Good Morning :) If you could please email our Sales Team or give us a call, we'll be glad to assist you with Pricing. We can be reached at- (888) 959-0911 or info@sirennet.com.

I did this same upgrade 2 days ago. I'm glad to see that I did it the same way you guys did.
I enjoy this new series of "how to" videos! Keep up the good work.

Is there a part number or link for the LED Takedown lights please?
Also looking for these

Here's a link that'll take you right to them :) sirennet.com/lightbars/lightbar-parts.html

What would be the part number on the takedowns you installed...
So the LED alley lights are held in place by the top, not secured by fasteners like the old halogens? I'm getting ready to retrofit one of these bars myself.
The Alley Light Brackets are held in place by the top and the Base. There's a great look at how they secure if you pause at 12:59.
I wonder, if you could pull the halogen bulb out and replace with an LED bulb from auto parts store without buying a kit?

SIRENNET What's the difference between the two? Will there be a gap between the light heads if I use the standard length corners?
The short corners will have a gap of about 1.25" on each side. If you can, the 12 diode extended corners would be a nice upgrade for side visibility :)
SIRENNET You guys are lifesavers! Always quick on the draw with all of the answers. Thanks so much!
Glad we could help :)
You should show a video of them working!!! It gets annoying when you show or build things and don't end up showing them on.
Where can you get the harness?
The harness is no longer available from Whelen Engineering, and we don't have any left in stock, unfortunately. Best places to search this out are eBay and elightbars.org.

+SIRENNET So I could actually use the WeCan I/O board with regular 400 series led modules.
+JAGExecutiveServicesInc If you're going to use a WeCan I/O Board, then you would most definitely want to use the 6 over 6 400 series Module's.
+SIRENNET You wouldn't happen to know the part number for the i/O board would you.
+JAGExecutiveServicesInc Unfortunately not. We'd suggest that you contact Whelen Engineering for the WeCan parts information. They can be reached at- (800) 294-3536. Thank You.
how does stewart like his land rover hes sitting in there?? :D
It's a fun Rig. We just make sure he keeps the snacks out of it :)
I want to know how to make my red and blues to all white.. Civilian application

Does the L/C I/O Board acc harness work on the the wecan i/o board
With the WeCan bar using the software for programming modules there's no need for it.
Will the wecan module work with this type of liberty bar?
It won't. You'd need to use it with an SW series.
Hi,
I just purchased a WeCan I/O Upgrade board for my Liberty bar.
Does this board allow me to run duo lightheads inside the bar?
Thanks!
+Henri Beaudoin The Part Number of the I/O Board would help determine what it is set up to run. Could you please tell us the long digit Part umber on the Board itself? You could also check this with Whelen Engineering if you'd prefer.
+SIRENNET 0264940 Thank you for the help!!
+Henri Beaudoin Is there a number set anywhere that starts with: 01-,02,46-,68- ? The Part Numbers are usually 10-12 numbers long.
+SIRENNET 01-0264940-00G
+Henri Beaudoin That I/O Board is for a Solo Liberty Light-bar. The DUO version uses a different Board and internal wiring harness.
I'm looking to convert a Whelen Patriot lightbar to a newer Liberty lightbar.
+SIRENNET My takedown and alleys are LR11s. I was wondering how to activate the flashing option.
On the trigger wire Harness, there will be a wire dedicated to Flashing the TD's and Alley's. Try powering up the White w/Blue wire.
how much is that kit?
+Jeff Bent Good Morning :) If you could please email our Sales Team or give us a call, we'll be glad to assist you with Pricing. We can be reached at- (888) 959-0911 or info@sirennet.com.
oh ok thanks!

Aren't emergency lightbars so cool?
They are actually blow-ups based on photos taken by Stuart from his travels.
You REALLY need to show the bar activated after the upgrade. That was a major disappointment
"main IO board"
Are halogenot brighter than LED?
LED Take-down and Alley Lights are brighter than Halogen.
