Haha yh, going old school with this one 😅 amazing that you met your partner via CB, crazy how things have changed. Yes, definitely great when you're in a pinch and I'm sure to be using channel 9 at some point 😂
Hey, Never had an swr meter to read the ratio. It was a while ago now and the Freelander is gone but it was a thunder pole antenna from memory and was the longer option. Range wise, I managed to get a fair few miles out of it so the reading was likely low, but never confirmed it 👍
Ah ok fair enough, seemed to make sense at install to have the 3 prong outside and the grip washer inside as it would grip both sides then. Ah well, it's on the car at least and nice and tight 😅
Ah nice, it's been a great radio for the kind of use I have and always has good clear sound so I'm pretty happy with it. Also it's a good decent size which is useful for where I have it lol
Private conversations on cb radio 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That's the biggest laugh I've had in weeks. It's an open public frequency. Just like using a video camera in a public place. There is no such thing as privacy on CB radio unless you use a legitimate scrambling device that must be law be type approved. Oh and guess what??? That can easily be decoded by anyone with the same kind of equipment so. No,,,, absolutely no privacy.
Hey,sorry been a while since I recorded this one so can't remember everything said 😅 I know cb are not private and on an open air. I think I remember not putting up the recording of me driving home as people were talking and they may not want me plastering it on TH-cam (especially with the language 😂) And yes I know cb can be tracked, in face I've watched people do it but didn't think to mention it in the video. I will say I am in no way an expert or even moderately acquainted with radio transmission expertise, just copied what I had seen a lot of people do when they got their radios and had good results so up high on the car and central. Seemed to get good results and in the following months got pretty used to using it and twerking the settings for some good range 😁👍
WoW !!! You managed to prove that you know nothing about radio. There is a very good reason that aerials are put in the middle of the panel. The same reason that you hardly ever see wing/side panel mount aerials anymore.😕🤬🤐
Hey yh sorry I'm not expert, infant this was the first time I'd ever used/installed my own CB. I just copied what I'd seen get good results in cars I'd been in so had the antenna up nice and high on the roof and mounted it central. That was the only advice I was given really. Got used to it slowly over time and got some good results with it whilst exploring so was happy with it on the Freelander. Unfortunately Freelander was written off before I could do some of the proper treks I had planned so never got to test it fully out in the back and beyond but did some good trips around Wales and Salisbury 👍
Wow that take me back to the eighty's, Me and my wife meet because of the CB radio. Great fun and great to have at hand, should help be needed.

you didn't show or say anything about the SWR setup for the antenna

The 3 prong thing should go on the inside to grip onto the inside of your roof

I have an identical radio, but it's branded as a "Canva CB-520" and it has all the European standards ... except UK-FM.
