I can marry from any where in this world even though am from North Central.I only care about the person being a true christian. Once you are a true Christian, you are indeed my brother and sister.
People have sentiments over different things.Some religion, tribe, color. These things make us different, but people can truly find beauty in differences.

Well this issue is all about individuals and environment. As a yoruba man, I lived in the midst of yoruba and igbo while in Nigeria. I am married to an igbo woman and its the second most important decision I have made after accepting Christ. About a decade now and no regrets. Having said that I think it's easier and more common to see Yoruba men marrying other tribes. No tribe is superior or better than another. I have seen terrible yoruba people and terrible igbo people. I have also see amazing yoruba people and igbo people too(especially my wife). Let's love appreciate and tolerate ourselves and we will have a glorious Nigeria
My Aunt got married to an Igbo man. Of all the son-inlaw that we have, he is the only one I look up to. Funny enough if I'm asked to choose between my Aunt and her husband, I'll choose the man. I stayed with them for about 6months after my service year and my perspective changed. Being a true Christian is all that matters. Before I left, I started paying attention to the language and igbo culture generally. For me, so long she's a Christian and I like her, I marry her, end of story.
Yorubas and Igbos can get along anytime, as we have similar ideologies. The main problem is, injustices done against the Igbos during and after the nigerian/Biafran war. Sadly, these unjust acts are still been perpetrated, under a different face. All seaports and intl airports closed in the east, but open in lagos, etc. Love and unity between the tribes will only come, when these evils are corrected. Hypocrisy is, when you keep smacking a child, and still ask him the cause of his tears!

My sister, Nigeria's tribalism scares me o! I was born into a Yoruba family, in a small West/Central African island. Brought up by my grandmother, a Yoruba woman from Abeokuta, Ogun State. My grandmother was considered as a mother to all, both to the natives on the island and Nigerians alike of all tribes referred to her as mama; in turn, the old woman considered all of them as her sons. So, I was brought up to respect every human being irrespective of their color, tribe or religion. I dare not misbehave or disrespect anybody because the reaction and verdict of my grandma will never be in my favor. My great shock of tribalism started when for the first time in 1975 I traveled to Nigeria. I was made to know that although my surname is Yoruba, but my face is more of an Easterner (an Igbo). You can't believe that I was made jest of even within my household. Not to mention when I became a sales representative in Lagos, I suffered both in the hands of Ibos and Yorubas. The Yorubas discriminated against me because of my facial appearance and not being able to speak Yoruba language fluently. On the other hand, some Ibos who would have welcomed me at face value, would later dramatically turn against me once they noticed my Yoruba surname. Well, with the support of our director, I spent more time preaching against tribalism than doing my normal selling job. At the end of the day and to my surprise, I had more Ibo friends than Yorubas. My philosophy of life became even up to date, “show love to everybody, and move closer to people who accept you as you are.” Also, I later discovered that they're some good Nigerians out there from different tribes with world view who are completely detribalized. Today, I deal with racism like many of you in the diaspora. If you ask me between tribalism and racism which one is better, I would say “none” is better, but I think I can endure racism more than tribalism. The reason is that one being outside of his country/continent, can become blind to some of these things (although in some situations it’s almost impossible) rather than suffer tribalism within one’s country and within his own people, is that not painful and a tragedy, considering that Nigeria is not the only country with different tribes or nationals? Other societies even some European countries downplay that dark part of their history. We, especially Africans should make effort to accommodate, live and let's live; after all, they say, "Charity" begins at home. For me as a person, mine at least is almost over, but I worry for my children who cannot even speak Yoruba language. Anyway, all hope is not lost, we will continue to pray, and support and push for someone like Omoyele Sowore for a modern and a detribalized Nigeria, where all Nigerians will be happy and their rights protected.
I am a half Yoruba and half Igbo Teen and I love it, being able to experience both cultures and both languages is so special and no 'cultural norms' should be able to say that that shouldn't happen
I'm ibo and married to a wonderful Ekiti man. I wouldn't have done it another way. These tribal sentiments are just stuff passed down from our parents which has distorted our feelings for each other. Most of my siblings are married to people from different tribes and I bless my parents for bringing us up the way they have done...

Summer I can tell you one thing, I don't think an Igbo man really cares compared to his yoruba counterpart when it comes to tribes. I tell my yoruba friends that they find it easy to get our girls but when they see their girls dating an Igbo man this is what tell her....ah were ori eniyan fe, omo yibo lo lofe. Translating ah mad girl you no see person to marry na ibo person you go marry. Igbo people travel a lot and because of that they know not to start trouble but there's a limit to their tolerance. This topic can be debated nonstop by both sides without a winner or looser.
From personal experience as a yoruba girl. My sister married a man from Anambra state. Unfortunately my igbo sister is was bad. The verbal, physical and emotional abuse my sister went through. I can not stop crying in her behalf. She loved him dearly. But they are divorced now. And it is for the better. My cousin on the other hand married an igbo man. He is pro biafra, pro trump everything but treats my cousin very well they live in England. I mean I guess it depends on who you meet.
I agree totally. My aunt married yoruba and the family gave her hell.. all hated her calling her omo ibo oshi etc. and finally divorced..my sis married yoruba they are a joy to behold.
I’m a Yoruba lady. I was once married to an ibo guy. He ends up beating up both of my parents and that’s what ended my marriage with him despite we have kids together . That experience alone made me hate the ibo tribe . despite we have ibo family friends that are very good people to us for over 35yrs

Several cousins and nieces are married to Igbo men and they are all happily married. I know so many Igbos who grew up in Lagos and speak Yoruba better than me sef. We treat each other as family and will do anything to support and help each other. It’s probably only the people in the village who are embracing that kain mindset. A lot of people have moved beyond that type of thinking. Thank God all that has been left behind. I was so sure I would marry an Igbo man because I was only toasted by Igbo guys back then.

@Daniel Okeke TV, the fact that he stated that he speaks yorùbá Does not in any way suggest that he hates being Igbo. We suffered a lot during that war, but I think we need to heal and move forward. If we don't try to heal from our pain, then there's no way we can find true joy in this world.

People say the same thing about tribes in Kenya where I'm from. People also say the same things between white and black people. Hi Summer, I stumbled on one your videos and I have always loved watching you and listening too. I am a Yoruba guy who loves pple doesn't matter where you are from. I love this particular video because this issue of hating one another is what has stopped us as a pple , nation to move forward. If you personally talk to pple and dialogue, ask why he or she hates igbo or Yoruba even Hausa, they don't know why. All they talk about is " we don't trust them , etc" . I think it's time we all start to deal with each other individually because then you can identify who is nice and who is not, regardless of tribe etc. Thank you for the video, very educative . The funny thing is that Igbos and Yorubas are way more similar than we think. We have similar goal and aspirations. We both work hard, etc. Even some words are the same or very close. For example: Nose: Igbo (imi), Yoruba (imu) Stone/rock: Igbo (okwute), Yoruba (okuta) Kick the ball: Igbo (Gbaa ball.), Yoruba (Gba ball) Please, the Yorubas in the house, correct my spelling. I think the problem is actually poverty promoted by our government. What’s dividing us should actually be the strong point to build our union. Ajokuta ma mu omi in the past means that ibo people like making their Eba and Iyan harder than yorubas. This I believe made ibos strong people. Yorubas on the other hand cook with a lot of palm oil, which makes our egusi stew looks palatable. I am a Yoruba man, I love Isi Ewu, I love fura de nunu and all the rest. We are one ☝️ Nigeria. I understand there’s that inherited hate between the two tribes but I think cultural diversity in any marriage is generally something to be very cautious and aware of! I’m British and my husband is Yoruba, I’ve learnt both people need to be very open to change/compromise when in a relationship with someone with a different culture to your own.
If you mean couples of different ethnicities, yes of course I do. I am in one. I’m in no way talking about ‘colour’ in my comment. My husband and I have taught our children that we are all the same ‘colour’ which is ‘skin colour’ we are just all different shades of this colour. I am very anti labelling people as races or colours we are one race... the human race. The point I was trying to make was cultural differences add to the challenges in any relationship. That could be two European’s from different countries, two African’s from different countries or a mixture of any two different cultures around the world. Obviously all couples would have this on a family tradition level. But when a couple are culturally diverse the differences are exaggerated compared to those who share a common general culture.
Great discussion. For those of us with ancestral roots in both cultures confirmed, it is hard to understand this division. Those of us in the diaspora are trying to reach back and learn about the people and cultures lost to us, to only find separation and division. We become stuck in the between place of the people that flow in our veins not getting along. When we as the separated people already find it hard to be accepted, as we know we’re not culturally Yoruba or Igbo, it makes us sad. If you can’t get along, we don’t have a chance of learning about our people. My majority African makeup is over 50% mix of Yoruba and Igbo, very high because I have recent great great grandparents straight from what is now known as Nigeria.

When the Almighty Creator woke me up and I started to understand who we really are, I start to understand what is going on with us. It will be too deep to understand but read; Isaiah 11:11-13. This hatred is real I worked In Lagos for over 10 years and I felt the hatred. I was omo ibo to some people. i actually overheard one lady in my office refer to me as that in a very sarcastic manner. Infact you will even have stunted growth in some organizations in Lagos as a result of being Igbo with all the back stabbing going on. Funny thing was that I was oblivious of this till I moved to Lagos after university for my NYSC. I was so young and just couldn’t understand what was going on And just like you rightly said Summer, many of the people doing the hatred have no idea why they feel that way. I agree with you. I grew up in Enugu. I had a classmate in secondary school that was Yoruba. She was well loved. No discrimination whatsoever. I was, and still is, shocked at the discrimination and hatred here. Several times when am house hunting, I was told I couldn't get an apartment because am Igbo!!! And, if Lastma catch you and you can't speak Yoruba, you don enter that day. It's really disheartening seriously. I preach love but honestly I can't marry a Yoruba man because I don't want to be judged/ hated because of my tribe. It's something I don't have control over. So, I steer clear of Yoruba men. Incidentally, many Yoruba men like Igbo women. Some will tell you to teach them your language because they love it. They like that our girls are committed in relationships and marriages, are home- builders, respect their husband and their list is long.

Woman, why not be proud to be an African or a human.... it's obvious you haven't travelled abroad then you'll loose the idea of being Igbo but a proud African (a minority in Europe) among many Europeans who only see firstly your colour as an identity but you therefore knowing who you are as a proud African in Europe can lift your head high. Over here they don't give a bread whether you are Igbo or Yoruba, everyone sees you as African.... Something you should be proud of, not some tribal associations that's seeded with internal discrimination of local differences.

The list is heart wrenching. Although it was a generational thing and thank God this prejudice is disappearing because we are now better educated. Discrimination do happen within my tribe (Yoruba) too. I remember growing up, we used to hear that we should not marry ladies from Ijebu and Abeokuta because of old rivalries and differences between them and the rest of Yoruba, and I use to question our fathers and mothers then. I made them realise that I will marry anybody I fal in love with and this old things won't stop me. Fortunately and happily for them, I marry a lady from same town as us.

My father is from Akure and my mother is from Asaba. I was partially raised by my auntie who married a prominent Hausa man thus I am by tribe a Yoruba man and maternally Delta Igbo. I am also connected to my Hausa cousins. We all related very well with each other and other tribes. I am lucky and well brought up with love from these tribes. I thanked our parents that they understand love and went above this tribalism. My FEAR. I see a war coming as some parents are passing down bad feelings amongst the new generations.
When you grow up and don’t learn to question what you’re told you become part of the problem. There is no valid or sensible reason why any group of people should not marry or hate each other. I think the problem started from Biafran war period ,but am an igbo man ,I think there is no much difference between yorubas and igbos ,cos after igbos pray they shout isee nd yorubas will shout ashee, so we re not much difference from each other, but they told us that Banjo and Awolowo betrayed us in Biafra war nd you know it has been hard for igbos to forget about the war cos they killed us with no feeling ,like we were not human being .
It's the politicians that are playing the tribes against themselves. Until we learn to ignore these politicians the resentments will continue. The funny thing is there has been a lot of inter marriages between the two tribes
I am an igbo woman that is HAPPILY MARRIED TO MY YORUBA HUSBAND. We live in Europe. This whole tribal war depends on the upbringing of that particular individual. When true love hits you, I promise you won't remember culture nor tribe.

Our two tribes are some of the best in the country , and we all know about it. Both tribes can bring so much to the table. We can complement each other.. It defies logic why we don't easily see eye to eye. But wait a minute, circumstances can get us in each other's arms, not on each other's throats. It will be awesome. The two tribes are brilliant people with wonderful colourful cultures. From an Igbo point of view our parents felt so betrayed during the event leading on to the war by the Yoruba's led by Awo. Most parents don't go for holidays in other states with their children to learn more about other cultures. A child may spend over two decades under their parents in their geographical zone without stepping into other states to experience a different form of lifestyle. Some of their now-grown children may be lucky enough to gain university admission into other geographical zones --that's if they even make the effort to explore other universities outside of the ones in their states/provinces. This rare opportunity exposes them to other cultures for the first time in their lives. I once met an Igbo girl abroad who had never lived outside of her State. It was a big leap for her travelling abroad all the way from her State, Imo. Her Igbo accent was very strong, & had never experienced life outside of her province. In fact, her first time in Lagos was the time she had to board the flight abroad. This is how clingy some people can be to their states. They're not interested in mingling with other tribes. They'd school, work, marry & die in their states. The Nigerian university system doesn't also make it easy for the students who wish to explore by schooling in other parts of Nigeria. These Universities always prefer to fill up their admission seats with their own citizens before leaving whatever number of seats left to the overqualified students from other provinces. This makes it tough for these foreign students to gain admission, hence, discourages them from schooling outside of their states. This tribalism also affects the labour force & private businesses too. The government compensated for this by introducing the NYSC. If they aren't daft, shouldn't they mandate that every university must admit, at least, 50% of students from other states? This's far more effective than the NYSC crap. The only people that aren't usually biased when it comes to tribal issues in Nigeria are those who grew up in multicultural states like Abuja & Lagos. This had enabled me to have friends all over Nigeria. It made me fluent at calling many tribal names; familiar with a lot of cuisines; understood much sense of humour; know a few phrases in many languages etc. The list is inexhaustible. Until universities stop being tribalistic by admitting students regardless of their state of origins, and corporate orgs. start giving jobs to the deserving candidates who qualify, & not based on the state of origins, it will continue like this. PS. There was a time I went to a Calabar restaurant to buy an Afang soup. When I brought it home, my mom was irritated by it, shook her head in pity & went straight into her bedroom. I began munching my soup with fufu, & then she suddenly resurfaced back into the parlour where I was eating. She couldn't get over the aroma emanating from the soup. This tempted her to have a taste of it. She reluctantly tasted it with a doubtful face, as if to confirm the absurdity of the soup's taste. Her face lightened like a spark when the soup landed on her tastebud. And she said: "Why didn't you buy many?" See the significance of living with other ethnic groups? Her generation definitely feels this way.

I am a guy born the UK and this is mainly an issue for people born back in Naija. Being abroad enlightens you to other cultures and different backgrounds. It is not compulsory you marry your own tribe but it depends. I am Igbo and would prefer to marry an other Igbo due to my language but I am open and would marry a Yoruba, Delta/Edo, other African or other black so maybe Caribbean. As long as the person is black - preferably dark skinned. I have met devils from all tribes and nationalities. They key thing for me is the person shares my religion christian, they have a good clean spirit, trust/respect is there and we are compatible. Well this issue is all about individuals and environment. As a yoruba man, I lived in the midst of yoruba and igbo while in Nigeria. I am married to an igbo woman and its the second most important decision I have made after accepting Christ. About a decade now and no regrets. Having said that I think it's easier and more common to see Yoruba men marrying other tribes. No tribe is superior or better than another. I have seen terrible yoruba people and terrible igbo people. I have also see amazing yoruba people and igbo people too(especially my wife). Let's love appreciate and tolerate ourselves and we will have a glorious Nigeria

My Aunt got married to an Igbo man. Of all the son-inlaw that we have, he is the only one I look up to. Funny enough if I'm asked to choose between my Aunt and her husband, I'll choose the man. I stayed with them for about 6months after my service year and my perspective changed. Being a true Christian is all that matters. Before I left, I started paying attention to the language and igbo culture generally. For me, so long she's a Christian and I like her, I marry her, end of story.

Yorubas and Igbos can get along anytime, as we have similar ideologies. The main problem is, injustices done against the Igbos during and after the nigerian/Biafran war. Sadly, these unjust acts are still been perpetrated, under a different face. All seaports and intl airports closed in the east, but open in lagos, etc. Love and unity between the tribes will only come, when these evils are corrected. Hypocrisy is, when you keep smacking a child, and still ask him the cause of his tears!

My sister, Nigeria's tribalism scares me o! I was born into a Yoruba family, in a small West/Central African island. Brought up by my grandmother, a Yoruba woman from Abeokuta, Ogun State. My grandmother was considered as a mother to all, both to the natives on the island and Nigerians alike of all tribes referred to her as mama; in turn, the old woman considered all of them as her sons. So, I was brought up to respect every human being irrespective of their color, tribe or religion. I dare not misbehave or disrespect anybody because the reaction and verdict of my grandma will never be in my favor.
My great shock of tribalism started when for the first time in 1975 I traveled to Nigeria. I was made to know that although my surname is Yoruba, but my face is more of an Easterner (an Igbo). You can't believe that I was made jest of even within my household. Not to mention when I became a sales representative in Lagos, I suffered both in the hands of Ibos and Yorubas. The Yorubas discriminated against me because of my facial appearance and not being able to speak Yoruba language fluently. On the other hand, some Ibos who would have welcomed me at face value, would later dramatically turn against me once they noticed my Yoruba surname. Well, with the support of our director, I spent more time preaching against tribalism than doing my normal selling job. At the end of the day and to my surprise, I had more Ibo friends than Yorubas. My philosophy of life became even up to date, “show love to everybody, and move closer to people who accept you as you are.” Also, I later discovered that they're some good Nigerians out there from different tribes with world view who are completely detribalized.
Today, I deal with racism like many of you in the diaspora. If you ask me between tribalism and racism which one is better, I would say “none” is better, but I think I can endure racism more than tribalism. The reason is that one being outside of his country/continent, can become blind to some of these things (although in some situations it’s almost impossible) rather than suffer tribalism within one’s country and within his own people, is that not painful and a tragedy, considering that Nigeria is not the only country with different tribes or nationals? Other societies even some European countries downplay that dark part of their history.
We, especially Africans should make effort to accommodate, live and let's live; after all, they say, "Charity" begins at home. For me as a person, mine at least is almost over, but I worry for my children who cannot even speak Yoruba language. Anyway, all hope is not lost, we will continue to pray, and support and push for someone like Omoyele Sowore for a modern and a detribalized Nigeria, where all Nigerians will be happy and their rights protected.

I am an Igbo man that speak and write yoruba when I find it tough to write igbo. Summer I can tell you one thing, I don't think an Igbo man really cares compared to his yoruba counterpart when it comes to tribes. I tell my yoruba friends that they find it easy to get our girls but when they see their girls dating an Igbo man this is what tell her....ah were ori eniyan fe, omo yibo lo lofe. Translating ah mad girl you no see person to marry na ibo person you go marry. Igbo people travel a lot and because of that they know not to start trouble but there's a limit to their tolerance. This topic can be debated nonstop by both sides without a winner or looser.
From personal experience as a yoruba girl. My sister married a man from Anambra state. Unfortunately my igbo sister is was bad. The verbal, physical and emotional abuse my sister went through. I can not stop crying in her behalf. She loved him dearly. But they are divorced now. And it is for the better. My cousin on the other hand married an igbo man. He is pro biafra, pro trump everything but treats my cousin very well they live in England. I mean I guess it depends on who you meet.

Several cousins and nieces are married to Igbo men and they are all happily married. I know so many Igbos who grew up in Lagos and speak Yoruba better than me sef. We treat each other as family and will do anything to support and help each other. It’s probably only the people in the village who are embracing that kain mindset. A lot of people have moved beyond that type of thinking. Thank God all that has been left behind. I was so sure I would marry an Igbo man because I was only toasted by Igbo guys back then.
I think the hatred started after Biafra war and many Igbo believe that Yoruba soldier's play a big part of the civil war and more fire was Ignited when Igbo started saying Lagos is no man's land, that is one of the words an average Yoruba hated most.

Hi Summer, I stumbled on one your videos and I have always loved watching you and listening too. I am a Yoruba guy who loves pple doesn't matter where you are from. I love this particular video because this issue of hating one another is what has stopped us as a pple , nation to move forward. If you personally talk to pple and dialogue, ask why he or she hates igbo or Yoruba even Hausa, they don't know why. All they talk about is " we don't trust them , etc" . I think it's time we all start to deal with each other individually because then you can identify who is nice and who is not, regardless of tribe etc.

The funny thing is that Igbos and Yorubas are way more similar than we think. We have similar goal and aspirations. We both work hard, etc. Even some words are the same or very close. For example:

Ajokuta ma mu omi in the past means that ibo people like making their Eba and Iyan harder than yorubas. This I believe made ibos strong people. Yorubas on the other hand cook with a lot of palm oil, which makes our egusi stew looks palatable.

I understand there’s that inherited hate between the two tribes but I think cultural diversity in any marriage is generally something to be very cautious and aware of! I’m British and my husband is Yoruba, I’ve learnt both people need to be very open to change/compromise when in a relationship with someone with a different culture to your own.

My husband and I have taught our children that we are all the same ‘colour’ which is ‘skin colour’ we are just all different shades of this colour. I am very anti labelling people as races or colours we are one race... the human race.
The point I was trying to make was cultural differences add to the challenges in any relationship. That could be two European’s from different countries, two African’s from different countries or a mixture of any two different cultures around the world. Obviously all couples would have this on a family tradition level. But when a couple are culturally diverse the differences are exaggerated compared to those who share a common general culture.
Great discussion. For those of us with ancestral roots in both cultures confirmed, it is hard to understand this division. Those of us in the diaspora are trying to reach back and learn about the people and cultures lost to us, to only find separation and division.
We become stuck in the between place of the people that flow in our veins not getting along.
When we as the separated people already find it hard to be accepted, as we know we’re not culturally Yoruba or Igbo, it makes us sad. If you can’t get along, we don’t have a chance of learning about our people.

I worked In Lagos for over 10 years and I felt the hatred. I was omo ibo to some people. i actually overheard one lady in my office refer to me as that in a very sarcastic manner. Infact you will even have stunted growth in some organizations in Lagos as a result of being Igbo with all the back stabbing going on.
Funny thing was that I was oblivious of this till I moved to Lagos after university for my NYSC. I was so young and just couldn’t understand what was going on

I agree with you. I grew up in Enugu. I had a classmate in secondary school that was Yoruba. She was well loved. No discrimination whatsoever. I was, and still is, shocked at the discrimination and hatred here. Several times when am house hunting, I was told I couldn't get an apartment because am Igbo!!! And, if Lastma catch you and you can't speak Yoruba, you don enter that day. It's really disheartening seriously. I preach love but honestly I can't marry a Yoruba man because I don't want to be judged/ hated because of my tribe. It's something I don't have control over. So, I steer clear of Yoruba men. Incidentally, many Yoruba men like Igbo women. Some will tell you to teach them your language because they love it. They like that our girls are committed in relationships and marriages, are home- builders, respect their husband and their list is long.

The list is heart wrenching. Although it was a generational thing and thank God this prejudice is disappearing because we are now better educated. Discrimination do happen within my tribe (Yoruba) too. I remember growing up, we used to hear that we should not marry ladies from Ijebu and Abeokuta because of old rivalries and differences between them and the rest of Yoruba, and I use to question our fathers and mothers then. I made them realise that I will marry anybody I fal in love with and this old things won't stop me. Fortunately and happily for them, I marry a lady from same town as us.

My father is from Akure and my mother is from Asaba. I was partially raised by my auntie who married a prominent Hausa man thus I am by tribe a Yoruba man and maternally Delta Igbo. I am also connected to my Hausa cousins. We all related very well with each other and other tribes. I am lucky and well brought up with love from these tribes. I thanked our parents that they understand love and went above this tribalism. My FEAR. I see a war coming as some parents are passing down bad feelings amongst the new generations.

when i was growing up in lagos i love yorubas they are my bestie i move with them,eat thier food and was hoping to marry a yoruba girl which later fail,because of the family things,how i which this tribe settle,even not all of them. is bad and accultic but they are more,but after seen event after event in Ngeria,i notice that yoruba are blocking the igbos and federal structures,just take rail lines for example,the yoruba woman that was presenting that plan said that the eastern rail line will be part c project,now part a and b is northern and yoruba,we all know that part c will never come on stream,i begin to take along my ethnic tribe since i know that those people that take such decision is there agender e.g i happen to be in Nepa office one morning to lay a complain,what i see that day was suprise to me,the igbos refuse to join them,the yoruba that was in that office fasted and held vigils in other to remove prof barth Nnaji the then minister of power [igbo man],what was thier anger because he introduce biometric capturing machine and about to unbundle nepa for me i taught that they shoud be happy that should bring about development,the minister was remove after 2 month he did not complete what he have started,that is why we are still having problem with light,the good ones is remove from office, pls enjoy your marriage to the fullest have taking side with my people.

Our two tribes are some of the best in the country , and we all know about it. Both tribes can bring so much to the table. We can complement each other.. It defies logic why we don't easily see eye to eye. But wait a minute, circumstances can get us in each other's arms, not on each other's throats. It will be awesome. It will be a model democracy in Africa where emphasis will move from domi ating one tribe to the most heathy competition. Think about it.
Thank you my sis for at least raisings ur voice to address this issue. Part of the reason why southern Nigeria has been raped badly. The two tribes are brilliant people with wonderful colourful cultures. From an Igbo point of view our parents felt so betrayed during the event leading on to the war by the Yoruba's led by Awo. Bcos of that singular event and today they feel so caged in Nigeria and they blame the Yoruba's who supposedly back stabbed them during the Biafra war which claimed so many Igbo lives. Had Awolowo not reneged, did a u turn and join the north, the Igbo's could have been on their own now. That's the Igbo side. Don't really know abt the Yoruba grouse except fear of the Igbo domination. In the end, I feel it is more of rivalry. No one would cede an inch to the other in a supposed superiority stuff. Trust me, individually the Igbo's and Yoruba's get on so well mostly in business, socially etc. But beneath that is always that deep rivalry and suspicion. ( its not hate)

Former military governor of Oyo State- Colonel Ike Nwosu adopted a Yoruba girl that was left for dead in Ibadan years back. That was an Igbo man showing love to a Yoruba girl then. Governor Ike Nwosu adopted Bose that was the girl's name as her own.
I think some people or ritualists drove a 6 inch nail into the girl's head and she was found on Christmas or New year'd eve then by very good Samaritans or say Nigerians. The incident then touched the mind of people then and after. I think she was about 4 or 6 year old then.

Most parents don't go for holidays in other states with their children to learn more about other cultures.
A child may spend over two decades under their parents in their geographical zone without stepping into other states to experience a different form of lifestyle.
Some of their now-grown children may be lucky enough to gain university admission into other geographical zones --that's if they even make the effort to explore other universities outside of the ones in their states/provinces. This rare opportunity exposes them to other cultures for the first time in their lives.
I once met an Igbo girl abroad who had never lived outside of her State. It was a big leap for her travelling abroad all the way from her State, Imo.
Her Igbo accent was very strong, & had never experienced life outside of her province. In fact, her first time in Lagos was the time she had to board the flight abroad.
This is how clingy some people can be to their states. They're not interested in mingling with other tribes. They'd school, work, marry & die in their states.
The Nigerian university system doesn't also make it easy for the students who wish to explore by schooling in other parts of Nigeria. These Universities always prefer to fill up their admission seats with their own citizens before leaving whatever number of seats left to the overqualified students from other provinces. This makes it tough for these foreign students to gain admission, hence, discourages them from schooling outside of their states.
This tribalism also affects the labour force & private businesses too.
The government compensated for this by introducing the NYSC. If they aren't daft, shouldn't they mandate that every university must admit, at least, 50% of students from other states? This's far more effective than the NYSC crap.
The only people that aren't usually biased when it comes to tribal issues in Nigeria are those who grew up in multicultural states like Abuja & Lagos.
This had enabled me to have friends all over Nigeria. It made me fluent at calling many tribal names; familiar with a lot of cuisines; understood much sense of humour; know a few phrases in many languages etc. The list is inexhaustible.
Until universities stop being tribalistic by admitting students regardless of their state of origins, and corporate orgs. start giving jobs to the deserving candidates who qualify, & not based on the state of origins, it will continue like this.

There was a time I went to a Calabar restaurant to buy an Afang soup. When I brought it home, my mom was irritated by it, shook her head in pity & went straight into her bedroom.
I began munching my soup with fufu, & then she suddenly resurfaced back into the parlour where I was eating. She couldn't get over the aroma emanating from the soup. This tempted her to have a taste of it. She reluctantly tasted it with a doubtful face, as if to confirm the absurdity of the soup's taste. Her face lightened like a spark when the soup landed on her tastebud. And she said: "Why didn't you buy many?"

Hmmm! The title got me.
I am a guy born the UK and this is mainly an issue for people born back in Naija. Being abroad enlightens you to other cultures and different backgrounds. It is not compulsory you marry your own tribe but it depends. I am Igbo and would prefer to marry an other Igbo due to my language but I am open and would marry a Yoruba, Delta/Edo, other African or other black so maybe Caribbean. As long as the person is black - preferably dark skinned. I have met devils from all tribes and nationalities. They key thing for me is the person shares my religion christian, they have a good clean spirit, trust/respect is there and we are compatible. All this tribal nonsense is small minded nonsense from dinosaurs. As for the list compiled by Igbos and Yorubas not to marry each other is a joke. People have time to sit down and compile this stuff.

I am half Nigerian born in America and I can not understand the reasoning behind disliking other Nigerians. Xenophobia, colorism, and racism come to mind. How can blk and African ppl every do btr if we continue to focus on he wrong thing. Hate and dislike are not qualities of success.... Just saying
