    I don't understand why some comments are so critical about whether they can speak their languages or not coz I'm sure they also wish they were fluent in their respective native languages. It's not anyone's fault that most parents these days speak mostly English to their children at home and miraculously expect them to start speaking their native languages when they're older. Doesn't work that way.

      It’s definitely somebody’s fault. To people abroad it’s shameful, because you don’t even speak proper English when you get here. You’re speaking English with a thick foreign accent, and can’t even speak your own language. It’s very shameful to people abroad. Who else is doing that and where? It looks ridiculous.

      It's bad and sad when children are not taught their native tongue. That said, we can't be children forever. If you can study for GCSE, first degree, masters, PhD etc. you can equally study your own language. It's never too late. It all boils down to one's mindset.

      It may be a bit difficult with the extended family but not impossible, if it were the other way around with the man being Igbo, the girl would be better off marrying someone else. It’s only in extremely rare cases she would have any peace if the marriage takes place at all.

For me as a man, I don't care what others think. I do what's best for me. No one can die for you or live for you. My preference is always a black woman from either USA, continental African, Latin America or Caribbean. God answered my prayers.

      I think Aregbe focused a lot on infrastructure. He did well in his first term, but decided to eat off the people in the 2nd term. Osogbo's development grew rapidly during his regime. I saw the turn around by myself. I know what it was when I newly got there and within a few years, there was a lot of transformation. However, the salary cut thing gave him a really bad name as it wrecked a lot of people's lives and affected me too.

    I think our grandparents truely practised the husband gets more meat thing. I'm from Abia, my mum is Bayelsa and I grew up in Lagos. My parents speak Ijaw and my mum also speaks yoruba so I grew up eating more ijaw and yoruba meals (not your typical igbo gal 😁). Now I'm married to Anambra and had to learn to cook ofe onugbu and oha 😁. I'm very adventurous with food so it is a plus for me. I don't speak igbo and understand little, I'm learning. Now I enjoy going to villa, trust me I was super skeptical; but to be honest, hubby's villa is Very Cool, fresh air, meet all the extended family, it's just home. Though we don't go yearly, but I enjoy it because I get to relax and just enjoy myself. I prefer native names, they have such deep meaning.

    At the end of the day, what really matters is, respect to both parties family, communication, love and appreciation and friendship between the couple. Holding tight to tradition even if both parties are from the same place. Most of our African tradition glorifies the man and look down on the women as second class citizens. Gone are those days when men were the only break winners of the family. These days very many of the women contribute to the well being of the family. Here in New York, l have settled a lot of husband and wife misunderstanding who are from the same tribe. They both work and the husband tells his wife my father never enter the kitchen to cook. Forgetting that his mother was a full time house wife. My wife and l came from different cultures, but we are best of friends.

The prominent religion is Islam and Christianity, you would be surprised of how conscious they are with God. I’m married to an Igbo guy too and I don’t like oha soup too and similar stories too. I’m Yoruba. Inter-tribal marriage is interesting. Although, my husband complains of my pepper, but he’s growing to like it a bit 🤣😅🤣😅.
    The only thing I found to be supper different might be language. Every other things are similar or just plain human behaviors (we need to stop the “Igbos/Yorubas are this.”....we all humans with human behaviors).
    Live video sounds good.
    I forgot to add that we have two kids and both kids have Igbo, Yoruba & Biblical/English names. Though mouthful of names......We currently call them by their Biblical/English name.🤪
    P.S.
    Suggestion: Y’all could make a video of what you like about each other’s culture. Especially the obvious ones because as I stated before language is most different, but culture, lots of similarities.

      yeah I'm Congolese and people automatically want to associate you to your father's tribe because a lot of tribes are patriarchal but my mother's tribe is matriarchal and the children belong to the mother. My name is from my dad's side but all my early childhood I was raised by my mother's family so I have a much stronger affinity to my mum's people than my dad's either way I don't like being made to chose because I never will.

      @@oladunnioginni6562, that's great. It's because you're proud of both cultures. And your folks did a good job on you. Because in most cases, kids go with the tribe the dad is from.

    The two of you are so cute😍😍. I'm a product of intertribal language. My Dad is Akwaibom, my mum was Igbo. I'm based in Lagos. For me its the food(I enjoy all 3 tribes food well😋). For Language I don't speak any ooo(God no go shame us😒😭). Thanks for this, I laughed all through.

      Language of love is clearly not enough if they depend on another man's language (English) for survival. Interviews like this set a bad example for the younger generation.

    • @PatriciaAbijah
      @PatriciaAbijah 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jay Cee This is not a bad example. Let’s not assume the worst for persons or parents of such persons who can’t speak their local language. What if they didn’t grow in their town so they can’t speak their own language, and where they grew up, because they had to learn it for school, they only know words and conjugation and grammar structure but can’t actually speak? It shouldn’t be their fault

    • @jaycee9015
      @jaycee9015 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PatriciaAbijah It's bad and sad when children are not taught their native tongue. That said, we can't be children forever. If you can study for GCSE, first degree, masters, PhD etc. you can equally study your own language. It's never too late. It all boils down to one's mindset.

      Jay Cee. Fact, you nailed it. That’s one of the reasons I don’t like inter tribal marriage but if they can both try to learn each other’s language , I’m up for it
