I think they are attracted to people who have traits they don't have- like compassion, empathy, deep love, etc ....and then they begin to resent you for it because you represent what they can never be. It's an endless cycle driven by their own fear, insecurities, and self-loathing. They will make you love them, then tear you down with zero remorse.

the thing is, is it truly impossible to gain those things or do they refuse to? I wish there was even more research done on narcs, there has to be a treatment out there for them to change their subconscious thoughts. maybe hypnotherapy. i dont know. something!! :( its so sad

I’ve watched my spouse snicker after he did something mean. I’ve lived thru hell. Married at 14, he controlled me. Married fir 50 years. He’s dead and I’m at peace. I wish I near then what I know now.

Right the bottomline is they are mentally ill. I dealt with one and at the time I didn't know about Narcissist. BUT I'd say it's like I'm on a roller-coaster ride with you. He'd change from nice to nitpicking me in the same day. After his noon Vodka drinks he'd put me down and I'd leave his house. So I'd leave before he changed when I'd visit on the weekend. It was like I couldn't spend 2 days with him or he'd make me mad. I'd start arguing with him cause I don't take much. But now I know about Narcissist people he got a lift out of making me upset 😡

It is hard. I left my narc after 19 yrs of marriage. Many. Many yrs have passed, he’s dead but not gone! He’s still in my head! I have to talk to myself everyday!
I went on & married again & my 2nd husband has passed away. I live alone but just too much time to think of the past. Some days better than others.
You're not screwed up at ALL. But that's what they (the narcissists) want you to think or have made you think. Please understand that it is them who are the truly messed up ones. And there will come along a beautiful day for you (I promise) - when you are reminded of how incredibly Amazing you are and how truly pathetic they are. Just be patient. And remind yourself that since you feel such deep emotions you will always be better than them on every level of existence! 💗

The games end when you disengage and never speak to them again and they cannot reach you. Or they have to go through a 3rd person with witnesses and everything in writing. They will still try to play you but expect nothing from them despite them saying they’ll give something to you. They’ll be seen for the liars they are.
Yep…each and every single time the narc supervisor reaches out to just me- I respond with an email while stating ALL facts & adding others.
I will not only respond solely to just him-he’s a liar, a manipulator, “forgetful” (he lies about forgetting-just delegates his work to others)

And because they do not want to feel remorse and don't have a conscience therefore, they most unfortunately live long..their minds and bodies are not affected. It's taken me years to come to the realization that I have been raised by two narcissistic individuals who never should have had three children. I finally came to the conclusion that they were narcissistic when I asked my mom if she was going to apologize to me or my siblings at all for the physical abuse we endured... (Mind you she is currently dying of brain tumors) and she almost screamed "I'm never going to f*cking apologize to you because I never did anything wrong!"

Rebecca, there is no end. Some covert malignant narcissists like this don’t stop unless they are made to. Court Order, Jail, etc. Their prey have become helpless. It’s like telling an abused person (who doesn’t want to fight, that wants to flee) to be strong. They are numb, frozen, do what they’re told like a hostage!!! Somebody has to step in and save them from the cult leader!
When they have nothing to offer you, they will take away something of yours then offer to give it back to you so that you recognise how generous they are. Giving you something that costs them nothing then gloating about it.

It’s difficult to leave, I love mine more than I’ve ever loved anything in my life. These past 4 years with him have left me feeling like a broken shell. He’s much more tame than he was when I first met him. At the beginning it was accusations and guilt trips and twisted mind games almost every two days. These days he only reverts back when I do something wrong. And I’m always in the wrong. There’s no talking things out, no compromises, he has to get what he wants in order for there to be peace. I’ve lost my friends and my family to make sure he feels safe with me. I know he loves me, and it’s my fault for letting the relationship evolve to be all about him, but when he’s happy I forget about my pain until he’s mad at me again. It’s just this terrible circle I keep putting myself in. Everyone who knows my situation tells me this isn’t healthy, and I know it’s not. Just why. Can’t. My. Brain. Compute. Leaving.
Its called trauma bonding. Make a plan. Think of what you want your life to look like. Make one small step every day to leaving.

Thanks for sharing this short. I have heard a fair number of your longer sharings. These shorts are kind of like a refresher and a reminder. I like how you go from these points that are made to "that is why you have to end it". What I got is that one needs to set boundaries with Ns and that is all one can really do. Negotiations do not seem to lead anywhere. Thanks again.

I don’t know I dated a narcissist until he discharged me lately. He definitely won my heart by love- booming. I through I was so lucky to meet the love of my life. He promised me thousands of things and I am so in love and didn’t know that a bait.. Suddenly he dumped me for no reason. Left me with thousands cut and deep emotional and confused. I hope no more victim from him because that is so painful and evil who can really played game with your heart and walk away like nothing happened 😭😭😭.
As far back as I can look in the maternal side of the family Nana, my mother and the sisters that were constantly and my life.

I feel sorry for them, I have witnessed and been subject to this kind of treatment. They never have a good day never a happy thought not truly happy it is sad.
They don't have a "plan". The cycle might make it appear to be premeditated, but they are suffering internal chaos. They go in hoping you are the answer, and see you how they wish you to be. That unravels for them so they have to get their ego boost by manipulation. When that no longer works they search elsewhere. It's not a plan, it's just inevitable.
