    So happy to see this one!! First of all I am planning to return to Mexico soon... I knew back in the Spring that my passport would expire in October this year, So I went to my local office here in the USA and submitted all my paperwork, new pictures, and old passport all went in the mail FEDEX to nearest hub for processing. NO Expedition allowed!!! This they said is due to COVID.... They told me to allow 12 weeks!!! About a month later they sent me a notice that my stuff had been received and the 12 week time period would START then! So about 18 weeks later my passport FINALLY arrived.

    Didn't watch the whole vid, so I don't know what problems they had in Mexico. Just wanted to say that I've renewed my passport twice in Thailand (I've been here 15 yrs) and it was very very easy. I live in Chiang Mai which has a U S embassy, so I just went with new photos and filled out a simple paperwork. They messaged me in less than 2 wks to come pick up the new one. May I give a shout out for Thailand - it's a wonderful place with such friendly people that I'm sad that I may have to leave cause they are now playing with the rules for retirement.

    Nice beret and great info! Glad it went smoothly! I was once about a week from traveling from Mexico to Honduras (flew to Guatemala and took a bus to Honduras) and luckily when I mentioned to my coworker that my passport was expiring in six months, she told me to make an emergency appointment at the consultate in Mexico City because to enter Hondruas your passport cannot be within six months of expiring! I had no idea! That worked out really great and they were able to issue me a temporary passport to use for that trip and later I received the fully renewed one. I also had no idea you couldn't bring a bag inside, so definitely "encargar-ed" my backpack with electronics, etc. to the security guard at the consultate door because I had no other choice, no lockers that I was aware of! It was all there when I came out :) Oh yes, photo drama! Your forehead can't be covered, you can't have earrings on, you can't smile, and I think the size they need to be is "foto infantil". Trip down memory lane! Best wishes as you plan your departure from GDL!

  • @agl5132
    @agl5132 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another thing for people to be aware. If planning to travel around Europe check airline regulations for passport acceptance. When I was leaving Europe many airlines were turning away people who had 6 months or less on their passport. Lockdown changes and so much uncertainty can leave people stranded. People are often not getting more than 24 hr notice in some European countries regarding changes. Long renewable times etc. So do not go by a countries guidelines alone. Check airline reg of the country your flying to as well as any layovers.

    • @TheYarbros
      @TheYarbros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's the rule for the majority of countries....you need to have at least 6 mo left on your passport's validity. Thanks for the reminder.

Did your original photos not met the guidelines set forth on the website? We planned on mailing our renewal application in to GDL office but are now concerned if the passport photos we take aren’t accepted with the mail-in process.

    • @TheYarbros
      @TheYarbros  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin, yes you can but you need both parents to be present to do this and if only one can be, there is bureaucracy involved like court documents so definitely look up the required procedure for renewing a minor’s passport if only one parent can be present at the consulate. Under 16 years old the passport is only valid for 5 years but you can renew a passport at any time so once your child turns 16 you can renew the passport for 10 years.

    Have y'all been stopped many times to see if you're over staying your visa? Is there an entry stamp into Mexico on your passport?

      No, stopped once in CDMX once during a Day of the Dead Festival and the cops went through our docs....just happened to have them on us that day. Every other time we were stopped was due to our camera....Mexico nervous when it comes to cameras.

    How far in advance before your passport expires should you renew your U.S. Passport in Mexico? Also, on your U.S. Passport renewal, did you use your Mexican address as your current address?

    No, No, No. DON'T renew your passport abroad. It will be written in your passport and questions will always be asked by immigration officers. Anyway, I would not. I would just have an address in the USA and use that to renew my US passport. Maybe one day you will become Mexican citizens and have a Mexican passports.

      We aren't anticipating any problems. 10,000s of expatriates do it every year and don't run into problems. Thanks though.
