I hope you don't mind but I feel like adding a few more points. I had to renew my passport before entering Vietnam from Cambodia. It was very inexpensive and I had the new passport with visa for Vietnam the next day. Every country has particular rules and I wouldn't expect every country to have the same rules as Vietnam. Also, it's important to always carry extra passport photos as well as copies of your passport. For instance, at the time, Cambodia required 3 passport photos. And, it's also very important to carry unblemished US dollars or Euros in smaller denominations where ever you travel. Laos required $35 US dollars to enter from Den Bien Phu, Vietnam - I don't know what the fee is now or if they accept other currencies. There weren't any ATMs until arriving at Vientiane and I had to use US dollars to get local currency for quite awhile. The Vietnamese dong is completely useless outside of Vietnam. Even in Laos you won't be able to exchange it. Lots to think about and be prepared for with passports, visas and currency. Happy new year!
Great tips sylv! Thanks so much. Crisp usd is important! I always have some with me but I know Ed pratt had a problem with that. And the photos are important too. People ask for different sizes too. I normally just get them taken at the nearest major city. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah carrying around 2 passports to enter and exit China is easy. Had to renew mid-way through a visa once and it all worked out. Matt raised a good point, when you submit your passport renewal it is wise to mention to them that you have active visa's please do not cut those pages, doing to terminates the visa.
@Mario Lopez Most countries don't remove visa's from an old passport and move them to the new one. it could alarm other countries to accept a passport with an altered visa with no additional remarks. I was surprised that vietnam was willing to do so. The case of Ms. Meng is curious by the fact that China does not allow most citizens to hold multiple active passports. However because HK is part of China after all, this could be a grey area.
I look forward to the next passport renewal on 10 years time. Where will you be then? Will technology have completely changed the process? Will I still be alive at 83 lol?
Very informative vid. Respect for the massive amount of stamps in the old passport haha! And also, respect for the continuous stream of uploads. Your trip to Vietnam is at a really funny timing bc I did a china to Vietnam overland trip about two weeks before you got to Vietnam, so the places you are visiting are super fresh in my memory. Keep it up homie 😎
It is healthy to separate yourself from your VLOGGING once in a while. It improves your channel and gives you more clarity. It's a good thing. Take care and enjoy the holidays with your family. Happy Trails
Thank you Matt for taking us through this process. Very helpful information and advice 👍😄 Ja Yoe Matt! Enjoy the Chinese New Year celebration with families.
I got a new passport at the Guangzhou consulate in China. The only problem was a couple of people who were thrown for a loop when they saw a COMPLETELY blank, new passport - no entry/exit stamps, no visas. When they punch your old passport, they only punch the cover and ID page - they DO NOT punch through the visa pages - NO PROBLEM there, no need to ask.
Yea. I know some people from other countries had their voided passports chopped on a corner or punched all the way thru. I told the lady at the embassy and she said no worries... they only punch the cover and face page.
Happy New Year of the Pig, Matt. Great to see you and Anny together again. She is a great wife, a capable business woman who solely looks after you and Eva. You're a lucky man to have such support.
When traveling to Vietnam from Thailand I was under the impression you can get a visa upon arrival. Yes but I do not recommend. It took well over an hour and was a stressful experience. Needed to get approval from a govt office not at airport and you don't know if it is being processes or not and your plane leaves in an hour. Finley you get an online approval and you can board the plane. Then in Vietnam you spend another stressful hour waiting for your visa in your passport.
Not passport related but I received a package today from Ningbo. Replacement parts for something my spousal unit ordered. Got here really quickly too. Just want to post that because I know you live in Ningbo.
Thank you very much for the video. This was so helpful. Have fun and enjoy your adventure. May your stamps be as divers as they can... means u will travel alot😀😀😀. Your wife is super cute😘😘
Yes that certain amount of months on passport to visit some countries ridiculous got held in customs in Gibraltar uk and Spanish border being a dual national uk and Australian forget the reason think showed both and it freaked them out ??or used uk one but aussie one stamped for Spain hrs of waiting and minimal English spoken
Question; why do you prefer to stay in China which appears to be more strict on many things ncluding internet access and in consideration your wife is viet, why not stay in Vietnam?
Well, as mainland Chinese, we can't collect Vietnamese paper visa if we have biometric mainland Chinese passport due to the territorial dispute between China and Vietnam. Anyway Happy Chinese New Year.
@@jtwu8931 I never say so, but it is significantly easier to be enrolled in Ivy colleges if you are a US high school student, compared to those from Chinese high school. This phenomenon is true as MIT or some other uni has rejected all Chinese mainland high school students.
Zheng Ricky because some of them got caught faking test scores, and to be honest, Ivy League doesn’t care for bookworms, they are in the business of making thinkers and leaders for bettering where they come from not to stay here and make big $$$.
I'm glad you got no problems. Very informative, been watching you for a while now

Haha. You will be alive for sure. But maybe we will get our shot together as a global society and not need passports.

Did they punch a hole in your old passport before they gave you the new one?
I think in America now is something like 90 days and about 130 dollars. This is for a brand new one.
Yep! You are stuck with carrying both passports until that Chinese visa expires. I’m in the same boat.
You ever try to get your license back in that amount of time in the states. They told me a month dear god. It arrived the day after I left.
新年快乐🎉🎆,happy new year

Really? My wife is Chinese and has her visa....
Her passport is the non biometric version passport, there is no map of disputed South China Sea on non bio metric version.
Poor mechanical lady.
She looks so bored.
It's like she's just going through the motions.
Welcome to Algeria .

So what's your daughter's nationality?
Chinese for now
@@JaYoeNation For her high school and college, she deserves to be an American
Zheng Ricky so you are saying US high schools are better than Chinese HS? Think again.
