And the cost varies depending on when your last passport was issued. I always recommend flying with your maiden name on the honeymoon and changing it when you get back!
It was my first time renewing my passport and I did it expedited. I went to the USPS , filled out the paperwork , along with my passport picture and old passport, I sent the application on 1/08/2024 and I got back my new passport on 1/23/24 . Very relieved 😅

I think that would be fine with the check. The check I wrote was in my maiden name. To renew because of marriage is different. You need to send your marriage certificate and your old passport. Look that up on the website :)

1 thing I disagree with. Get the passport card. Its an extra form of official govt ID that you can use state side. I really like having an extra form of ID that will get me on a plane that I can keep separate from DL when I travel. Just saying

I have a PDF passport and on the back it says to print it!! Why would it tell me that if i already have the passport from the post office? Also, it says to sign on the first page, but it’s only on page 2 that I have to sign! Do you know if they changed the form?
I would sign anywhere that it looks like you should sign. And renewing your passport means sending in your old passport no matter what kind it is. If you don’t want to print and send, you can just apply for a whole new one (and say you lost yours) but you have to go in person.

You can mail it on your own but you have to have the envelope, it’s smarter to go to the post office. The fee is on the application. For a renewal, you just follow all of the steps and pay to mail it.

So first, I’m glad you’re already aware of the process for the urgent passport. I would suggest either trying to get someone on the phone for an appointment like that, or to be honest, booking the cheapest international flight you can find (even if it’s just to Canada) and use that as proof. I’ve known someone to do that before. Good luck!

Hi Jim, thanks for commenting. When I renewed mine, I did not add my additional 4 digits of my zip code, and my email is all lowercase as well, but put it in as uppercase. I’m assuming it’s for easier reading. I always just fill out the 1 emergency contact, but you can write in your address and your in case of emergency address in your passport, once you receive it. If needed, you can always put a post-it note on that page with additional names and numbers. Hope that helps!

On the application number 10 US Passport Information. When it asks for name as printed on most recent passport, there is not enough space to include my name because i unfortunately have two middle names. My expired passport has both middle names in it. What do I do here?
If you generate the pdf online for the DS-11, it will give you 35 characters for each your first, middle, and last name compared to the paper version which gives much less. I hope this helps!

Are money orders not allowed? And can the entire $160 be together or do they need to be separate, like $130 money order and another for $30 I don’t have checks oh and if so on the money order is there anything we need to write on it like it is on the check
If you are doing it by Mail, the official website says “Send us a check (personal, certified, cashier's, traveler's) or money order payable to "U.S. Department of State" But if you are going into an office, there are more options for payment. I would assume pay it all together, and to still write on it like I said in the video? I personally haven’t done a money order.

Yes, 4 staples like in the photo :) and the post office should take card. It could vary!
You can use a debit card at the post office for a money order but not a credit card.
I used a credit card the last time I did mine. But the first time (at a different post office several years ago) it was debit
Why do we get 2 photos? Do we send both with the application or just one? I am getting both the book and the card.
Just one, you just keep the other one, just Incase. Sometimes you need it for a visa or something down the road

I definitely travel with my passport no matter what. A card isn’t always accepted, but people do love to have it for additional identification

I’m honestly not sure on a renewal because the pdf document for the ds-82 did not create more spaces, and I can’t find anything online.
I have heard people just attract a sheet of paper with the continuation of the spelling and send it in with the paperwork to show the full name.

There is a process you have to follow, with a different form and sending in your emergency one. Especially because you already paid for your new passport when you get the emergency one. It is all on the official govt website

Hello, for the date of birth did you just write out your full date of birth or did you write “DOB: ____”? I just wrote my full date of birth next to my full name and I’m concerned my money order will be sent back because I didn’t write the letters “DOB”
Im sure you will be fine. I think they just need to verify your date of birth

So I just wanted to renew my expired passport and I'm mostly wondering, can I staple the ds 82 form since I fill it online and there's 6 loose pages? Or do I need to paperclip it?
Also, though I don't intend on picking the $60 processing option, I do intend on the 1-2 day delivery option (which is almost $20) so they should know when they process my application to send it to me with the 1-2 day delivery option, correct?
You can paperclip it, but don’t staple it. And you can always attach a note if you want, for clarification

There isn’t a need to, you just have to fill it out and mail it. The appointments are reserved for new passports.

That’s just the rules. I know half of the time when I write a check, they make me do that.

Are money orders not allowed? And can the entire $160 be together or do they need to be separate, like $130 money order and another for $30 I don’t have checks oh and if so on the money order is there anything we need to write on it like it is on the check
If you are doing it by Mail, the official website says “Send us a check (personal, certified, cashier's, traveler's) or money order payable to "U.S. Department of State"
But if you are going into an office, there are more options for payment.
